the reason alot of the story seems lacking isn't because the story is badly done or barely there, no actually if you go to the library and go under cutscene replays and briefings, they hide alot of the loredump stuff regarding both the game's plot, and the anime plots, in there, I guess to not overload people with cutscenes that want to jump to the action. in other words in this game the library is a clutch, since you can replay any story related cutscenes at any time and even try different dialogue choices. also the final boss is the most satisfying of any gundam game in my opinion. this game's story and final boss and ending is a love letter to gundam fans, especially universal century ones. just make sure to check the library often for loredumps. this game loves g gundam as well you will be happy to know g gundam fans.

The lack of pause in solo is quite frustrating, especially when there is a timer and some missions take 20 minutes out of 30 to complete if you are efficient. Dark Souls not having a pause button is fine because things don't respawn and there's no ticking clock. They should have implemented it in solo. I have a feeling though that there was a bug that they could not fix, so they just had to remove the pause feature.

As for the lack of English dub, I mainly think they decided to do this simply because it saves money from having to hire VAs. (Especially since some of them no longer would have reprised the roles; namely Domon Kasshu and Heero Yuy. And I even think Brad Swaile didn't want to do voice work again.)

With my experience of Gundam games and series, I do get a strong toned down Dynasty Warrior Gundam vibes from this game with a bit of Gundam Breaker 2 for the boss fights. Could see a problem with lack of certain MS, especially in a game that covers many varying universes. Although still playing GBO2 and goes back and forth out of Breaker 3, this could be a nice change of pace later on to play. As for depressing Gundam series, yes IBO is quite sad but that is only the tip of the iceberg. The lingering lock-on is there so that you can maintain a combo even after an enemy dies- or else it'd more or less make you drop combos all the time. It takes a bit to get used to, but if you really need to swap to another target, you move the right stick to swap targets, then you can just do a melee to dash to them. It takes a little getting used to but as I've already racked up 40+ hours on this game, its not taken too long to get the hang of things. Also about bosses not flinching, I think its important to note that only beam damage does much against boss balance gauges. Its why its really useful to bring a sharpshooter with you if you're an infighter, or play an infighter that does beam damage if you only bring two allies that do physical.

In my eyes this game is the SD gundam game I've always wanted. I'm not to big on the traditional grid based tactical games and always wanted to see the SD look of the gundam translated in an action game setting. Based on what I've seen it succeeds in that front. Also the game reminds me a lot of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which is one of my favorite games on the switch due to the amount of characters the game has, fun combat, surprisingly detail to the animations, etc, which are all aspects I see in SD gundam battle alliance. Basically it hits a niche and I'm all for it.

Before this, we only have SDG Cross Rays which was turn-based strategy. Considering that this game has, what, 100+ characters? I understand Bamco saying "nope" to English Dubbing for this experimental game. Maybe next time when the English consumers have become more established. @@thatguybis1997 here's the thing. Gundam games used to have English dubbing but after the first 3 DWG games back on the PS3 they stopped and every Gundam for the most part has ONLY the Japanese dubbing. It's likely because getting the original cast back for hundreds of characters costs to much. Yes Gundam makes money in Japan but its track record outside of Japan varies wildly. For every good Gundam game there's four bad ones. The animes can be very polarizing with UC and AU fans constantly debating about what's good and bad. Some of the animes legitimately don't do well. My biggest complaints are when you lock on an enemy, your shots tend to not be accurate while enemy bosses tend to have 100% accuracy on you. And when you break some bosses, after some get into the animation to get up, they just boost off somewhere else to make all your shots on them miss when they should've still been flinched.
@GaleHarquebus

Yeah like the game design is forcing you to make perfect guard/sidestep an essential skill despite being just frame inputs that need relatively high skill. And yeah the only way to keep them in break is to aerial combo them, which if you're the run-and-gun type of player, will definitely break your experience.

Look, the Japanese-only problem is pretty difficult to justify, though there are many games out there without an English dub. The language problem mostly stems from the dialogue dumps halfway through the action like you stated. Price tag is hard to defend as well. It should have been a $40 game because of its shorter runtime for normal mode and the lack of localization beyond subtitles. However, your understanding of the plot shows how little you actually went through the story. There is much more to the story than "Xenoverse, but Gundam," and it is quite interesting. Your understanding of the "grindfest" is only partially accurate. Though it is best to stick with a mobile suit for the first few directories, once you get to directory 4 (halfway), you start getting enough capital to fully level mobile suits up to Level 15 without breaking a sweat. Also, multiple mobile suits have multiple ways to obtain blueprints. Your example of the GM Sniper II shows that you didn't realize that you can get the 2nd blueprint on a later mission as a guaranteed reward. For the more intricate/iconic mobile suits, yes, you have to play the mission multiple times; however, by that point in time you will be playing the same mission anyway to get capital for a mobile suit that you are leveling that you want to use as your main. I've played 60 hours of this game, and hard mode (essentially ng+) is the only time when you need to *actually* grind.

@Xenobears
@Xenobears Год назад
The power scaling for later mobile suits kind of demands you grind even more to unlock and upgrade them. They’re so much better for base stats than the early MS that it isn’t funny… like going from 2-5% damage reduction to 15-20% damage reduction before mods.

I definitely wish they did some more interesting story missions. The concept is cool, but just needs that little extra push to be incredible. I also hope they rebalance the difficulty around single player in the future. The lack of enemy hitstun and Mobile Armors lacking a visible stun gauge is infuriating and makes playing any of the Infighter style suits a huge pain. Master Gundam for example, has 2 grab sub weapons, but they cant be used on a huge chunk of bosses. It seems built purely around the multiplayer which makes some missions an absolute drag. The grind can also be unbearable. Some sort of Gauntlet or Survival mode where you just cut through waves of enemies would be a great way to earn exp resources.

I've only played a little bit of the game so far and while I'm not impressed with it, I'm also not unimpressed. I'm a huge 20+ year-long Universal Century Gundam fan, with a soft spot for Gundam Wing, since it got me hooked on the genre way back in early 2000-something. You definitely need to be a fan of the series to appreciate the story, though, I know I'm going to have issues with it once I hit Seed, 00, etc stuff. The auto lock on can be disabled in settings, but I don't know how much it'll improve the gameplay. If anything at all. But otherwise, the camera is definitely annoying. I had the exact same frustration when fighting Epon in that second stage. I couldn't beat the level on Normal because of it (and maybe because my MS was underpowered?). The stupid buildings were just in the way. At one point, I thought it was a part of the level design. Maybe I was supposed to destroy the buildings... but it proved too hard to do and I ended up just getting destroyed. Default controls aren't great either. The boost and dodge buttons require you to remove your right thumb from the camera stick, so boosting around while moving the camera is nearly impossible without two right thumbs. I'm playing on the Switch, so I changed the layout as follows: ZL= Boost, L = Sub Weapon 1, ZR= shoot, R=Sub Weapon 2, Y= Melee, X= Stronger Melee, A= Guard, B= Jump. It works for me so far, but Guarding is a bit tricky at times. I might swap the A and B actions or something, in order to move the guard button closer to the R stick. The SD chibi Gundam form factor is kinda annoying for me, but having played the recent turn-based G Generation strategy games on the Switch, it's almost normal for that particular console. In my mind, the Switch isn't powerful enough to handle regular, full-sized and well-detailed models like Gundam Battle Operations 2. BUT... there were gundam games back on the PSP that used full-sized models, but not GBO2 level of details. There was a game I imported, but I cannot remember its name right now. It was basically a more modern version of the Federation vs Zeon or Gundam vs Z Gundam games from the PS2. It had up to Gundam Unicorn on it. If the PSP could handle that, I'm sure the Switch could too... with a bit more detail. Overall, the game is just an SD Gundam game aimed at the fans and trying something new for them. Does it work? Maybe? But it isn't groundbreaking or anything. I'm still wanting a Gundam Battle Operations 2 game that's a single player, mission-based game that plays through the Universal Century, has all the various mobile suit variants like GBO2, and plays sort of like Zeonic Front (PS2) minus the frustrating pre-planning that that game had (I played that as a middle schooler or something, so I wasn't great at it). Obviously, this type of game wouldn't be for the Switch though, so I'd be playing that on my PC.

For me the problem is difficulty curve when you hit Level 80 missions. You can basically get through the entire game solo no problem... until you get to the endgame EX missions which are the only way to level past level 80 and they're all but impossible with AI partners, you basically need multiplayer. It wouldn't be so bad if you could consistently time counters, but with the camera hiding the boss you're locked onto half the time, the inconsistency of attack hit boxes, and the slow responsiveness of the block button it just feels unfair.

Some of what you said I highly agree with, like the "no English voiceover" and the camera being crap, but for the majority of the negative points you gave, they can be easily fixed in one of two ways: first, go through the options menu, it takes five minutes to check it all out if you're a slow reader; the auto target is changeable in the options menu. And, second, if you played the game past the first couple of missions, you'd know that there is still a lot of the game that opens up in later "Directories," such as Chaos Missions, which would be that "unique twist" you said the game didn't have for the whole branching missions thing. Also, some missions DO have branching paths. Again, if you played past the first couple missions before writing a review of the ENTIRE game, you'd have come across them. What I'm trying to say is that I wish you'd played more of the game and explored the options menu at least once (because you didn't do it even once; the auto lock-on is the very first page of the menu, lol) before you write reviews that say things aren't what they actually are, but only found later in the story. To your defense, though, they explain the multiple paths thing in the middle of a battle... In Japanese... So I can see how you might have missed it, even if it's an early mission you might have played. Also, there's definitely something about foreign languages babbling nonsense into your ear for entire missions that really annoys me. Lol. But you're positive points-and even a few negatives like I said-i highly agree with, so I review this review a 6/10. Sorry if I sounded mean; I didn't mean to make it seem like I hated your video because I don't. I just think you need a little more effort for future game reviews.

However, even with all these things you mentioned, I don’t think my feelings on the game would’ve changed even if I had played more. Also, auto lock on being enabled by default is the silliest thing I’ve ever heard to be honest lol This game lacks polish, and I think my review gets across exactly what it needs to, even if it doesn’t cover every single base. Chaos missions do sound promising though.

@@thatguybis1997 yes, I thought it was something like that. But even if you only got it for the review (if you did), I still suggest playing it at least until Directive 5 or 6. 5 because that's when Chaos Breaks open up, and 6 will let you get some of the more powerful/popular Gundams between 5-6. Most of the stuff before that isn't so good, unless you got knight Gundam in the beginning of the game from preordering. What I'm trying to say is that you should still give the game a second chance until at least those points in the story, even if it's not for a review. The game gets a lot more fun as you progress. :)

As for the story. SD Gundam games have always been about mashing the multiverses of the Gundam series together you could say that this game stole from Xenoverse but SD Gundam has been doing this since the beginning when the games were turn based stretagy games. Way before Xenoverse came along.

My guy... With all due respect, we need to talk... Because I have SOOOOO much to say regarding your video here. Before I even say anything, I just wanna make it very clear that I wish you ZERO disrespect whatsoever for your takes here, I'm merely just pointing out some things you might be misunderstanding or just might not be in the know about. So here we go: > *_"I say that I'm a fan of the series lightly mainly because the only thing I've really seen that's GUNDAM, outside of the mechs, is the anime 'Iron Blooded Orphans'."_* Okay, so this tells me a few things. Firstly, it tells me that you're still relatively new to the Gundam Franchise. Which is totally fine n dandy! But it also presents a problem that I'll be getting into later with your review. We'll come back to this point in a bit. > *_"I always thought Gundam in Video Game Form would be an unforgettable experience, but I have to say: Even with such a promising formula to work with? Most Gundam Games I've seen seem to be lackluster to say the least."_* HOOOOO, BUDDY... Sounds to me like you've been looking in all the wrong places, my dude. Because I can tell you of SOOOOOO many Gundam Games that are nothing short of PHENOMENAL. Believe me, I know what every single good one AND bad one is to date. If you really wanna get pointed towards some awesome Gundam Games? I am more than welcome to show you. Just lemme know! > *_"I feel like there was a bit of a missed opportunity here. They could have made the missions a bit more dynamic in that if you complete a certain objective within a break mission, then that opens a branching path into another parallel timeline within that specific universe."_* See, I partially agree with you to a certain extent here, but I fully understand WHY they didn't do that. Mainly because Time Traveling and Correcting History is something that must be CAREFULLY DONE with fiction in order to not end up with insane amounts of plot holes and continuity errors. It's a VERY HARD THING to get right with writing that type of story. I guess considering the game only has 80-ish mobile suits (as of launch), they decided to play it safer by not going TOO CRAZY with it for the sake of what kind of story is at hand here. But hey, that's just my theory. > *_"I definitely think Xenoverse did the idea way better."_* As I said above, this kinda thing is VERY EASY to fall into plot holes if not done right. Which is unfortunately what happened to Dragon Ball Xenoverse, because those 2 games are FULL of plot holes due to the writing of the story not exactly being the best with time traveling. But then again, Dragon Ball's timelines and alternate universes are an entirely different can of worms to talk about. Moving on... > *_"Not to mention, there's no english dub here. Can you say 'Lazy'?"_* Okay, so listen carefully. You're relatively new here, and you yourself admitted that you're not too familiar with the majority of GOOD Gundam Games out there. So lemme inform you on something. Gundam Games now a days, *NEVER* have english dubs in them. Like, EVER. The last Gundam Game that actually had English Dubbing that was released in the West, was Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3. And that game's english dub was SO BAD IT'S MEME-WORTHY. It was around after that where Bandai just said "Screw It" and just decided to go with subtitles instead. And honestly? I DO NOT BLAME THEM. Considering the fact that English Dubs in recent memory have DRASTICALLY gone down in quality since the good old days, due to companies like Funimation (Now Crunchyroll) getting caught changing character dialogue to make them say stuff they never did just to push personal agendas. With that in mind? I legitimately DO NOT BLAME Bamco for not bothering to dub their Gundam Games anymore with how corrupt the dubbing industry has gotten over the recent years. Besides, the voices in Japanese sound totally fine as it is. English Dubs with Gundam in general have varied in quality over the years. Adding english dubs would significantly cost way more money to do, and in a game like SD Gundam Battle Alliance, it's really not gonna matter too much if there's a dub or not. > *_" Not that I don't like playing my games in Japanese, but with this game especially, it's a problem. Because they'll be talking during the mission about things going on during the battle, but because I'm so focused on the game, I don't got time to be reading what they're freakin' saying! So all in all, I'd rather not have them constantly buzzing in my ear during gameplay!"_* I think you might be overreacting just a bit here. You're literally the FIRST PERSON I've ever encountered that actually got annoyed at this. There's literally TONS of games out there that do this kinda thing. Hell, Dragon Ball Xenoverse is one of them, should you decide to switch it to Japanese Voices; Which A LOT of people prefer, believe it or not. Overall, this isn't really that big of a deal. You get used to it after a little while. > *_"The story within the missions also don't really make that much sense either. But I am more or less a newcomer when it comes to the series. Still, the game doesn't do a great job of explaining WHY we're having this battle, what's SUPPOSED to happen in this mission, and what's CHANGED from the original timeline. So you kinda just go around and wack things, because really, the game doesn't care enough to explain, and therefore, YOU don't care enough to learn._* See, this is why I said above with the fact that you're brand new to Gundam and only saw Iron-Blooded Orphans can be problematic with Gundam Games like this. Battle Alliance is a game that kinda EXPECTS YOU to have prior knowledge on literally EVERY SINGLE GUNDAM ENTRY present in this game AND be somewhat up to date with Gundam Lore at the same time. Otherwise, there will be quite a few moments where you're gonna be LOST as to what's going on. You could definitely argue that's bad for casual players of the game, but the truth is that this game isn't really targeted towards the general audience. It's targeted SPECIFICALLY at Gundam Fans and ONLY Gundam Fans. Non Gundam Fans or Gundam Fans that are brand new to the series are gonna have a FAR harder time enjoying this game. It wouldn't be the first time Gundam Games did this, and it absolutely won't be the last. But it is what it is, sadly. If you actually got neck-deep into the Gundam Franchise as a whole, and then came back to this game again, there is a VERY good chance you would be enjoying this game A LOT MORE. > *_"And while I wasn't a fan of the chibi Gundam art style at first, I gotta say, It really grew on me."_* GOOD ON YOU for that! That's something that turns SO MANY PEOPLE away from SD Gundam games such as this one; Regardless of if they're GREAT GAMES. It absolutely infuriates me when people are that shallow and simply judge a book by its cover without even giving it a fair chance. Mad respect, my dude. Overall, though. I feel like once you get more into Gundam, you would definitely start liking Gundam Gaming more. Especially once you get shown what the best Gundam Games to play actually are. Seriously, if you want me to give you the grand tour with Gundam Gaming, I would be MORE THAN HAPPY to do so. All you have to do is say the word. Always good to hear hot takes in the Gundam fandom! sunk 40 hours most is good and accurate, tiny nit pick the chance drop blue print is a half truth the drop rate is 100% the only thing that is a chance drop is how many blue prints you get the boss flinch mechanics a lot more understandable but thats where the shooter class mobile suit comes in they have a better chance to break the bosses meter as they can quickly spam shots and nuke their meters away as a guy who sunk 40 hour and breaking fingers (playing on default keyboard controls) a tip to quick blue print grind is to simply get 1 suit you will use to grind upgrade that much as you can and speed run the stage, most stage does not require you to kill all mobs to go to the boss, not to mention bosses are the only one that drop blue prints, another thing there WILL be few stages that will force you to kill mobs to progress. to kill bosses fast just save your ult and your AI partners ult don't ever use it on simple mobs and make sure to check your AI partners ult the reason for this is melee ult has a high chance of missing because your other partner AI can break the stun lock for the boss pushing them away from the hit so a shooting ult is a lot more prefered if you want to maximize the damage done from ult nuking a boss. last tip IF your are playing on keyboard and having lock on issue where it switches target stop moving your mouse keep it still and possible, this works best for shooters but I'm not toooo sure how this works out for melee.

The main problem is that its SD. Why cant they make the same gameplay but actual size gundam not small size. They can make everything small if they want but draw it normally not SD chibi shit. It also lacking in mobile suit. For me i was in wing era(after colony 195) and cosmic era. They could at least get all protagonist gundam in Wing and side character Gundam on Seed

If you want a good gundam game, get gundam extreme vs maxi boost on. That is literally the best gundam game you can get your hands on excluding all the arcade ones that are only in japan :(

You said 60 I paid 90 for the deluxe version. But yeah the bosses having hyper armor really sucks ,also if like to point out that auto lock isn't useful even on the giant mechs that can spam thier moves all willy nilly and quick boost all over the stage making you chase them around or run from them. Another problem is the revive system where some mobile suits have 3 revives and some have like 4-5 and playing on normal with 3 revives isn't fun since the CPU gets a massive power boost and can almost two shot you early game. Also the upgrade system sucks,if s mobile suit has 700 attack like mine does you can't tell the difference between your starting attack or your leveled up attack since your still doing the same number of hits.i can honestly say I regret buying this game.due to do much of the game play and grinding chore looking for certain mobile suits .

@@cloutmadeit585 thanks but I'm using two barbotos Gundams and I'm not going to go through the trouble of releveling one Gundam all the way to lvl 30. That's too much capital to spend .

Honestly, skill issue. If you actually learn to play the game you can instantly break enemy mobile suit armor with counters, or wittle them down with subweapons. From there you can just combo them into oblivion, and there are some very fancy and sexy combos i've come up with on my mobile suits, especially the infighter class. The only annoying bosses are the big ones but using a sharpshooter and multiplayer can usually make quick work of them. The game is a lot deeper than it seems on first inspection.

Most gundam games aren't in English since they are mainly released in japan. The best gundam games are on ps3 and tue breaker series on ps3&4

Ah shit manz got me subbedd now, Im too lazy to write a full review my self but I agree with another guy who said traditional gundam grid fire emblem game which i have never played yet sadly. But gundam from my childhood was always gundam versus in the arcades such like that is a gundam game. From that and the older GBV and only playing that coming into SD gundam is amazing! I got sick of it but somereason I never found out that gundam hathaway was in it and my god i love that movie. I do plan on getting the DLC sooner or later to freshen up the game because I Still have a lot to do. the only issue is that I felt burnt out for a few months, Since their is a DLC pack that should help freshen it up. In verdict all i would have to say is this game is light, amazing and fun but the only problem is repetetive then again what game isnt a grindy rpg hack and slash like warriors games these days?

These are all valid criticisms. I'm a huge Gundam nerd but it's a shame the fanbase doesn't want to admit to these things based on the like to dislike ratio and would rather nitpick semantics like you calling regular mobile suits Gundams. I wish we would get a really good Gundam game one day on par with the likes of Custom Robo, Zone of the Enders or Titanfall. This one is just kinda okay. Gundam Breaker is a series for example with a lot of potential squandered by the utterly braindead gameplay.
