Whenever we see or play a dinosaur survival game, one of the aspects people pay most attention to, is the roster. How many dinosaurs does the game have? What are they? Is my favourite dino in the game?
And that’s a natural thing. Most of us play these games because of them, we are passionate for these prehistoric creatures and knowing how diverse the roster is impacts both our perception of said game and our choices when we buy video games set in this genre.
Having a dinosaur collection this large presents us with a new problem, and that problem…. Is power creep.

The most obvious solution to roster creep is making a lot of the clone type dinos model variations of already existing ones. Where they basically have the exact same stats as the original ones but their visuals and sounds are different, to make you feel like you're playing a different animal. That way, both people who don't want the roster to get overly crowded and the ones who want their favourite dinosaurs in the game would be pleased. The dinosaurs that would fit as reskins of others are Mono as a Dilo variation, Charchar for Giga, Styraco for Diablo, feathered Utah for classic Utah and Corytho for Para.

Stuff like Styracosaurus and Corythosaurus could be used as alternate costumes in other games, where they share the same stats, animations and everything so they don't take away as much development time

The special skin thing is kinda gay. You can functionally add them as their own thing with whatever slight difference and taht can be fine as long as you have a complete balanced roster already and they don't render other dinosaurs useless.

@@creakingskull7008 Yeah I see your point. Though it's worth pointing out they've done it once before, balancing the roster is as easy as reverting the game back to may 2016. But yeah, by that logic nearly everything is a tall order for these fuck ups.

This issue could be solved by having a relatively small roster and using skins to add aesthetic variety. That way you can get your favorite dinosaur without having it just being a worse or better version of something else otherwise identical to it.

This, have the base dinosaur be the test for the "Frame" and then just have different dinoskins for it. You could even seperate dinosaurs into niche categories, it'll be awkward or funny for nesting but honestly. It should be class instead of dino based.

Hell no, the roster and diversity is the best part of the game. A smaller roster and you get Evrima, which currently is very boring.

@@erikeliasson4739 I'm personally actually fine with the idea of a big roster. I just meant that you could have things the way the video wants it while also having aesthetic diversity. But I don't personally mind if a few dinos here and there step on each other's toes.

@@Imyourmoose Thing is, Raptor is a raptor, they're different sizes but they basicaly did the same thing, punch their rear claw into something. You can only flavour that a few ways before it becomes a lesson in futility. Same with walking mouths like T-rex and what have you.

I mostly agree with your premise but I think you chose the wrong examples with the sauropods lol. They all actually have relatively easy ways to differentiate if you look closer at their anatomy. Yes they are all giants / big, but the way they function or might defend themselves is different. (keep in mind these specific four sauropods all lived around the same time period and region during NA 150 myo, so they really did have different ecological niches). Bronto: Famous huge neck, see how BoB Apato's utilizes it's neck attack. Actually you can go further than BoB and outright make the neck attack a risky CC attack to knock down animals smaller than it (basically 90% of the roster). Think the way Magy uses it's neck but on a bigger scale. Like Diplo it's tail is relatively long compared to Brachi or Cama. Cama: Weirdly strong bite and the fastest sauropod on the roster based on speed estimates from new paleo-books (25 kmh). It's tail attack should be weaker than Bronto and Diplo, it should be more of a trample and run animal (well as much as a sauropod can run). Diplo: Extremely long tail, more than half it's body length. Should be the Indiana Jones of sauropods, using it's whip for long-range combat. Relatives of Diplo preserve tail spines, which could allow it the unique niche of being the only sauropod to apply bleed with it's tail attack. Brachi: The biggest boi, which while not mechanically that different, is still significant as it outweighs the other sauropods by 2-3 times. I'm not gonna say they are the most unique group, but honestly there are worse overlapping animals on the roster (the Ceratopsians...). If the team really wanted to, they could easily carve out a niche for the larger sauropods. Do we NEED all 4? No but also not that hard to make them unique so. What about carnivores taking advantage of the slow turn radius and speed because having that long of a tail for diplo should mean it turns slowly cama should turn simply because it doesent have something like that tail weighing it down carnivores could attack the sides while it turns for its tail or something else and if it turns fast it would be unrealistic and the devs clearly don’t want that

@@davemiller7742 Yea if they wanted to go further they could also include differences in that direction. Though I wouldn't make it so extreme, because of the three sauropods Diplo is also the lightest. Both species of Diplo are lighter overall, D. carnegii is around 12-13 tons and D. hallorum (formerly known as Siesmosaurus) is around 16-17 tons. Cama species can get smaller too, C. lentus is around 14 tons iirc but the largest is bigger than Diplo with C. supremus at 19-20 tons.

Plus only 2 of the sauropods might conflict with each other with how similar they are but for the most part they fill a specific niche of where they browse for plants.

Brontosaurus is not a thing. If they wanna implement something similiar, they should implement Apotasaurus, since that's the species the specimen of Brontosaurus really belonged to.

The best way to solve this is to have different environments in game, example: desert and rainforest (of course more than this but this is an example) evrima brings diets to the game which allows this to be possible, put oranges in rain forests and potatoes in deserts, have brontos eat potatoes and cama eat oranges. See? Now you have two different ecosystems that can literally have dinos that are carbon copies of each other but have their environment differ so they dont compete. This works for carnis as well. Have carcha eat cama and have giga eat bronto. There, now you can satisfy the fans of both dinos but still have no balanca issues because the dinos will rarely meet in game, this way you can have two animals that fill the exact same niche but one doesnt get overshadowed because it fills the niche in a different area than the other. This completely solves the legacy balance problem because two animals that just dont work in combat can now be 'removed' from eachothers habitat so they can stay in game but away from eachother, but are still essential in the ecosystem they live in so they wont be overshadowed by anything.

That will actually fit the game very well, because the map they're planning is extremely gigantic. It's actually already happening in the game, herbivores can only find their food in certain places, you'll never see stegos and tenos in the coastal regions, unless they're lost, because there's no diet for them there, they're only at the center of the island, from the swamp to the north mountain. Dryos can only be found in the coast regions and lemon fields. Hipsis can be found everywhere, except the swamp region and the lemon fields. And pachys can be found in the coastal regions, lemon fields and the lower area of the swamp, down the dam.

11:26 I had a suggestion a while ago about how mono should be a stealth like class, maybe slight color changing abilities or camouflage , not too complicated maybe just a way for it to blend into environments, also it’s already confirmed that mono is gonna be venomous

New utah could stand out if they gave it the ability to WAIR ("Wing assisted incline running") and make it semi-capable of climbing trees and other surfaces, which the current utah can't do beyond relying on jumping. If you wanted to get more wild, you could also make fall damage less punishing for the new utah for the same reason.

I feel like they're well aware of the potential of the different dinosaurs having overlapping niche's. A long, long, Looooooooooooong time ago there was a small portion of players (or atleast those following development) who were asking for the Tarbosaurus to be added to the game. Too which, Dondi basically said, Why would I add a T-rex copy into the game? Except, you know... more Dondi-esk. To me, that says their atleast aware of the issue. However, I do believe that the solution to the problem is something the game is already doing. If it were me, I'd start by picking the primary dinosaur I'd want to represent the particular role that needed to be filled, design balance and implement it, see how it fits into the game and balance again as needed. Focus on filling the roles that are considered totally unique from a gameplay standpoint. Once all, or most of those positions have been filled, then we can start to look at the "copies" as it were. For this, we have to consider what The Isle actually is trying to create, An ecosystem. But its more then that, its a series of interconnected ecosystems that will ultimately be represented by the various biomes that will make up the game as time goes on, and there inlays the solution to the problem. The variations of similar dinosaurs need not be vastly different in terms of stats and abilities if its not applicable. Instead the primary distinguishing factors should be choice of diet and biome, two things that are very easy for the devs to control and nudge players towards. To that end, I view the copies to fall into two catagories. You have the direct genus alterations. Think Utah Raptors or the Giga and Charcha were really there's so little difference. You can just make a genus selection on the spawn screen. Stat-wise, minimal to difference between the two in terms of hard factors, But change their soft factors, so that they: Don't live in the same biomes, don't hunt the exact same food groups. Then you have alternate genus's not directly related to the "main" dinosaur, For this I think you have to make some level of stat alterations because they just aren't that closely related to the main animal. But, you design them to fill the same niche with similar stats, but make their common habitat and food groups such that they just don't run into their counterparts during normal gameplay. Of course, I know everything depends on players actually behaving in an intended way, and we know there is a system that is intended to try to influence that further. But really, that's like any multiplayer game. Its only as good as the people playing it.

Protoceratops and Avaceratops also are very similar. Although Ava is slightly larger, I don't think it will differentiate the playstyle enough.

Ava is in a rough spot because if they let it burrow like proto it will be a "better proto" but if they don't it will just be a worse diablo.

I disagree, i think niche overlapping may not be so bad depending on how it's made, like, Dinosaur A and Dinosaur B may have a pretty similar strategy, but their stats could balance things out, Dinosaur A could be weaker and stuff, but have a quicker growth, while Dinosaur B could take more time to grow in exchange of better stats. Corythosaurus and Parasaurolophus may have a similar gameplay, but Cory could run in faster speeds and have a better stamina to escape from predators, and Para could be tankier and have a stronger attack, Styraco could have a strong attack, and maybe even give more bleeding, while Diablo can have a higher hp, and maybe a better bleeding defence, i dunno, but with balance, i think two similar dinosaurs could coexist

So my idea (and I feel it has a chance at being correct or at least partially correct from things Ive seen the devs say) is to have different rosters for different modes (or even separate them by maps so you can even make the environment the dinos live in more tailored to their needs).... so have mini and small tier dinos available in one map, mid tier dinos in another map, then large and apex dinos in a third map (or split them up more or less depending on balance)... that way instead of trying to balance 60 odd dinos to each other you would only have to balance about 20ish... you could have the maps tailored to the needs ie. big wide open spaces for the large and apex, and a smaller map with more varied terrain closer together for the small dinos etc... So you wouldn't have to worry about a TRex ever meeting your protoceratops so you wouldn't have to balance them together. This would make balancing way easier, and would also make it more likely you will run into your own species (if a server only has 100 slots and there are 60 different types of dinos you will be hard pressed to find a mate to nest). Just my idea and I have seen devs say that evrima wont be the only "mode" you can play in which I take as possibly splitting the dinos up. Anyway great video as always XZaguer... idk why they'd do that over just having a smaller roster. At this point they would essentially be making multiple games instead of putting all their effort into one game. If they balance the game well enough a protoceratops should be able to survive encountering a rex.

@@xemiii I agree a smaller roster would also fix it... but tbh everytime I go into the isle discord there is someone asking if X Y and Z dino will be in the game.... everyone wants their favorite dino to be in the game. I personally could care less if TRex was in the game.... but Im not going to expect it to be kept out just because I don't want it in. As someone who doesn't want to spend 4-7 hours growing a dinosaur (which would take me several gaming sessions as I don't have that much time in a row to play) I would like to see more small and mid tier dinos.... others want the big ones.... having multiple rosters each with a variety of dinos in different weight classes would give people the choice on what sort of game they want to play. It would also make it so they could reuse mechanics between the weight classes (so have a bonebreak specialist in each class... a pouncer in each class etc...) so if I want to play a a ceratopsian but I only have 3 hours I can choose a dibble or proto... if I have 7 hours I can go for trike... it would be the same game just different levels of commitment from the player. Plus it would give us a variety of maps each tuned to the needs of the roster that play on them (so no dense jungles where apexs roam and smaller/denser biomes on the map that has the small dinos so it doesn't take hours to get from one place to another.

when they said they waere going to add the "realistic" utah i'm pretty sure that they menta it as a morph, kinda like path of titans, i only see small differences for them, maybe the feathered one will be less resistand and more fast, but other than that a raptor is a raptor, it pounces, bites and jump, i'm also sure that the velociraptor(the small one/ will do the same thing but with small differences. but im hoping that they dont make the morph group together, seeing a multicolor pack with feathered and non seems very messy XD EDIT: i forgot to add that they aslo said that, yes, every dino will have an unique mechanic, but that also "once all mechanics are done deinos will be added faster" that means that the dinos WILL have the same mechanic but with different animations to make it look cool, deino can lunge you, with means "block player" but same thing goes for utah pounce and for example titanoboa block attack. they just need to play smart and add the mechanics with small differences to make it look nice, and since the dinos will be able to grabing with the mouth,block,roll others, pick up dinos alive, its all an animation play. also magy,cama and puerta(?) or. u know, BiG DinOs will have many difference even if the shape is the same, magy will push dinos and trees and be fast, puerta(?) will destroy forests and.... be a puerta, cama will be annoying af cause its in the middle of puerta and magy, i think that only cama should go away, magy is enough also lol, that comment is too long, sorry XD

one thing i would like to point out is that charchar will be an alt skin for giga, not a different playable realistic utah will have a completely different and presumably more realistic playstyle, only being able to pin prey, and being bulkier and slower than the current utah

if I remember correctly the devs also mentioned something about shant having possibly the same niche as para, although since they've already given it a redesign I imagine ultimately shant will be in the game since it's different enough to parasaurolophus and corythosaurus to potentially have a much different playstyle

If i recall it right. There are not gonna be 2 utahs. Feathered Utah is just a customization for the Utah and not a 2nd utah. same goes to quills on the dino. For the Sauropods there are ways for them to make Brachi and Diplo play differents. Just very quick examples on how to make them different Diplo * Use its neck like how giraffs uses their neck in fighting ( BoB's new apato) * Use the tail like a whip * Kick Brachi * Charged stomp attack there the Brachi stands on 2 feet while trying to balance itself and slowly move towards target for a very limited time before it lands on all 4 similar to how Pachy charge attack * Alt stomp There it does a quick stomp to the direction they are facing (alt stomp behind will take long time to land) * Tail whip Keep in mind Stego and Kentro are pretty much the same animal on paper, but are gonna play differently. Devs did confirmed the stego's tail attack is more like a stab attack while the kentro is going to have tail sweap attack and kentro seems to have a shoulder bash aswell. Devs have also said that they dont want to add a reskinned animals. they want them all to play unique and have their own gameplay and abilities.

A way to help with roster creep could be to "region lock" dinos, so certain (or all) dinos would be locked to one or two maps where they serve their own niche. So, instead of having Utah and Mono both on the same map, Utah would be locked in an American Midwest map with Acro, Pachy, Stego, and whatever else is out there, and the Mono would be locked to its own region with that region's roster. This would allow the two dinos to serve their very similar niches separate to each other while still feeling immersive and not too cluttered. Kinda like how a Ford can be sold as a Mazda in Japan since they're more used to that brand. Mechanically similar, maybe identical, but familiar to the region. The biggest problem I see coming from this would be people being upset that they have to play their favorite dinosaur in, say, a barren desert instead of a vibrant jungle. Honestly, the best solution to this is to just not oversaturate the roster in the first place. The Isle is not a big enough game (or has big enough servers, or big enough maps to support a super server) to give people that many options. Server limits are only 100, and with 59 options the majority of dinosaurs will not be used, and even if they all somehow are it'll be very hard to group with your own kind, or even find diets which could be potentially game breaking.

The two utah problem is so avoidable... Either please paleo enthusiasts by giving it a more accurate design, or leave it the same and keep bowing down to the million dollar franchise Jurassic Park's outdated depiction of Velociraptor (Deinonychus). Even more simpler is adding skin options for the utah with feathers/accurate anatomy. Obviously they did it because... I don't know actually. They're not shy about being insanely innacurate, so, why the JP ripoff raptor?

I honestly don't care about paleo-accuracy in The Isle, or any other dino game that isn't Saurian. I just wish they'd give the Utahraptor a more creative design (this applies to every other dino game). A paleo-accurate skin would be cool though.

@@Bagelgeuse Feathers on the utah, troodon, galli, and compy would help their designs be more original in my eyes. If I had never heard of The isle, but still a dinosaur enthusiast, and you told me those designs were new designs from Jurassic world or something, I'd genuinely believe them.

They do the Jurassic park ones because regular people want to play the dinosaurs that they love in the movies, so it’s more appealing to people so more people will buy the game. To make it be more realistic it would make the game less popular and result in lower sales. In short, people want to to play and do things they see in the movies and so do I, therefore I think they shouldn’t add the more realistic versions of dinosaurs.

since Monolophosaurus is 5 meters long id but it as a mid sized Carnivore, or the isle could just jw it and make it tiny.

there's already power creep occurring. An example of this is that you see almost no-one play Utah and dryo, instead the game is overrun with alligators and stegos.

Ive thought of solutions for most of the roster creep issues, add creature limits and increase server cap, not to mention make the isle a proper virtual ecosystem that needs a full or almost full server to be perfect

Can't they just like... do what Smash Bros does and just make it so that there's a "base" dinosaur and then the other dinosaurs are just skins but with modified stats or effects? (ex: Tyrannosaurus is base, then Tarbosaurus is the echo fighter)

A big problem with having so many dinosaurs from different eras is that they could be millions of years appart. Like rex and giga. They didnt live together because they didnt evolve to live together. So I understand that some people want to see their favorite dinosaur fight off another dinosaur, but it just wouldnt work. A T-rex is broken is stats agains an allo because what the rex hunted and ate was much bigger than what the allo would eat. And acro would hunt massive saurapods by bleeding and choking then, but a rex would use force to kill its prey. So a rex vs acro scenario is both unrealistic and unfair

Not really. You just have to balance the game, and select a roster based on said blanace. T.rex biteforce offering a significant advantage is kind of a meme, giga and rex would both be able kill each other with a single well placed bite, basically the same shit for acro. Acro and rex being in the same game would be hard tho cause acrocanthosaurus would both be slower and less agile than rex while also being weaker, unless you based rexes mobility on the absolute largest speciments.

Ideas on neiches. Cory: it is more benifitial in nesting creating structures to protect offspring, eating a difforent diet of wood, fruits and bushes, or a call that can potentally make low health carnivores delerious. Styraco: idk in this one... uhh, have it eat roots, tubors and occasionnaly bones from old carcasses, Mono: camofloge and a charge ability to let it crash through small trees, rocks, and into small dinos for fracture damage. Or change the enviorment to displace smaller carnivores. Charcharadonto: let it have a "parasitic" relationship w other dinos, ripping a chunk out of living targets (mostly big dinos/ and or sauropods) to feed while dealing with others normally. And u like the idea of poisionus maggy but if they go down this route they need to let noob players know its toxic like giving it the scent of toxic edibles or stressing potental predators w its presence atomaticly through scent. Also let maggy eat toxic plants and mushrooms to show why its toxic. With all that siad i do think that is too many dinos to have anyways.

I couldn't agree more but I feel it can be fixed by adding the more unique and important dinosaurs first. Then add these more niche and more unviable dinosaurs later for community servers to add so that once the game is finished we will still get content following after the official release.

And the community want a realistic utah so they're going to rename the current one to another species,realistic utah is way more robust and couldnt jump etc,so it will be different,but im not sure if its needed

Could have it to where players can lock off species to limit the roster if they own a server. Customize their ecosystem to what they want to survive in. Can also leave them unlocked which would probably just result in balancing issues.

My main issue with the roaster is that basically all the dinosaurs play the same with just different stats and models. With slight exceptions such as dilos having to rely on night and their bleed to hunt. Everything else plays basically the same. Thats why I like evrima much more as each dino feels different in the role they play and not just another reskinned dino

Besides most of the creatures you mentioned, I'd argue that Acrocanthosaurus, Avaceratops, Suchomimus, and either Maiasaura or Parasaurolophus are also somewhat redundant. "Acro" is basically a slightly smaller Giganotosaurus with a slightly more pronounced spine. It might also potentially have overlap with Allosaurus. Depending on the size they go with, Avaceratops would probably feel too similar to either Diablocaratops or Protoceratops, or both. Others have already brought up how Baryonyx and Suchomimus are pretty similar besides the latter being a bit larger, which I'd add might put it in competition with Spinosaurus as well. "Maia" and "Para" are both mid-sized hadrosaurs, and we saw how things went between the two in legacy. Additionally, if not crafted well, I could see Albertosaurus, Beipiaosaurus, Homalocephale, Kentrosaurus, and Rugops coming off as little more than drastically weaker versions of Tyrannosaurus, Deinocheirus, Pachycephalosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Carnotaurus respectively. This might also apply to some creatures I haven't mentioned.

I dont really mind having overlapping animals. If their playstyles are that similar then they could just add some visual diversity to the roster. Also they could make them essentially sidegrades to each other. For example one sauropod might have a less picky diet while another one needs less total food but their diet is more difficult to fulfill. Or one therapod deals more upfront damage while the other does more bleed damage. The differences don't have to be huge but as long as they are more or less sidegrades then it wouldnt really lessen the experience. The styracosaurus might run faster and the diablosaurus might have more stamina. These are all examples but adding player choice would likely increase replayability and enjoyment.

My best guess is to introduce tempratures? Some dinos could be better in certain seasons/temperatures, such as the african gigabeing weaker somehow during winter but being stronger than the giga during summer, be it stamina, hunger/thirst etc, they would be the same but with a climat preference differencial! I think this could fix quiet a few "clones" of a realistically idendtical saurus. Not a direct competition, as they have both the same stats, but different enough as seasons make one of them weaker, while the other is stronger during that time. Hell, maybe make the feathered dinos better during winter if you wanna even incorporate the feathered and skinless dinos, so we are able to have 3 different families, which are the same gameplay wise, outside of the visual and seasonal preferences!

Carcharodontosaurus only weighed up to 7t or so, whereas Giga grew up to 9.4t, based on the few described specimens we know of. Giga was significantly larger and beefier, and might actually overlap in gameplay with T.rex more than Carchar, so perhaps it'd be better having Carchar and not Giga.

Pretty sure Magyarosaurus went extinct because it was an island dwarf that had its habitat connected to the mainland full of giant predators. Putting it on an island with species very similar to those predators is probably not too realistic

With the new/old Utah issue they could easily solve that issue by just making the old Utah more accurate in it's capabilities. Rather then just being a bigger standard dromeosaurid, it was robust, large, and had a less pronounced sickle claw. Then they could change the name of the new "Utah" to Dakotaraptor and keep it essentially identical to how Utah is(I don't have exact measurements, but the current Utah seems way too small and way too fast for what the actual animal would have been capable of)

i think styra is unique enough (impale ability) and mono would be fine. Diplo could have a unique tail crack technique while not being as tanky as Camara. Charchar and bronto are least viable imo. also the new utah as well.

I think the new utah is planned to be just a skin for old utah, there’s no reason for the play styles to be any different. I believe I heard that cory is just a skin for para as well.

I think you make a lot of really great points but personally I would've gone much farther. I would've also included acro, alberto, rugops, austro, velo, mono, dilo, psittaco, bary, proto, homalo, and many others I can't think of atm. There really are far too many here, especially given the amount of time and effort it will take, not to mention that every additional character means new balance issues, and a unique challenge of making it fit with the ecosystem. Realistically you wouldn't have 10 different species of ceratopsians on the same island, all competing with each other and every other large browser for resources. There are so many animals they could include, and different routes they could go for when it comes to already implemented ones, it's genuinely disappointing to see them choose small swamp-dwelling carnivore #19 over and over again.

I think the old Utah should go. It is a completely unoriginal design and doesn’t even make their love/copying of Jurassic Park subtle. A feathered Utah could have the unique trait of partial gliding, I would even advocate that juvenile Utah’s should be able to climb which would give the Herrerasaurus competition or even something to chase after. In fact, Dinos taking up different niches as they grow would be a great idea for making a single dinosaur fun and new all the time.

One thing I want to state, old utah is essentially just a JP velociraptor, which is based on achillobator. Real utahs are much bigger and bulkier, at the cost of being slower. This could be the niche of the new utah, being slower but stronger. It’d be enough of a difference for players to pick which utah they prefer. Of course, if it’s not enough, they can always make new utah’s pounce do more raw damage and less bleed, separating its combat playstyle from utah drastically

You could solve bary/sucho by making one much more adapted to swimming & diving (more agile in water, better stamina while swimming, better oxygen reserve) and the other more of a wader (less agile in water, but receiving bonuses while partially submerged, making it tankier rather than agile.) This would already be supported by the recent study that theorizes bary being more of an active diver, whereas sucho would hunt more similar to a bear catching fish.

Cool well acro is pretty similar to giga yet now he has a different play style being suffocation and not bleed despite their similarities so carchar could've had something different too Cory can have a different mechachic than Para plain and simple Styraco can easily be a bigger and slower pachy basically a pachy for apexes Bronto while it is fair that it is pretty similar to the other sauropods I don't think he will be a playable anyways but if he does become one I'm pretty sure they can make him different. Same thing for diplo his tail is the longest and can easily be different from the other sauropods Mono already got his concept being a stalker with scent and possibly a bleeder but idk about that one Utah I would agree one the fact that we do not need two kinds of utahs even tho the one we have was renamed as omniraptor I would like if they just went with optinal feathers able to not have or have feathers so it would look like two different dinos but not really.

A ridiculous amount of big/medium big theropods? Cos that is a dumb aspect of the roster. It's very samey also, and doesn't take in account unique playstyles/niches, power creep as you said, and some dinosaurs basically being useless because they can't work in an ecosystem full of huge theropods, and don't have a proper space to fill (alberto imo), or simply are a dinosaur that has the same playstyle but does it worse (ava or protoceratops, and maybe sucho and bary). The roster should be like 20, maybe 30 at a stretch.

The Ceratopsids are easily the worst example in the roster creep. So we have Trike as the big boy. Then we have Styraco, Pachyrhino, and Diablo that are all relatively the same size (Diablo being slightly smaller than the other two but whatever). Then we have Protoceratops and Avaceratops which are both smaller, probably burrowing dinos. Finally we get Taco, which is tiny. You could easily just put Ava, Styraco and Pachyrhino as skins for Proto and Diablo, cutting the Ceratopsid roster in half while still allowing you to play as them. Give them the same stats, just different skin options and make them unable to breed with their “base” dino since they’re technically different species.

I see your point but disagree to a certain extent. For example, if two animals are exactly the same just skinned differently having the extra animal is more a good thing than a bad thing because people like variety, especially dinosaur people and especially the isle dinosaur people. Secondly it’s kind of unfair to suggest that a brachiosaurid play style will be exactly like a diplodocid play style. That just suggests you don’t know very much about the anatomy and physiology of the animals. Additionally, some of these animals did actually exist side by side in actual nature because of their ability to fill different niches which is a testament to their differences irl which can easily translate to different play styles in the game. Lastly but not least, whilst I see your point most strongly with the parasaurolophus, to be fair they recoded the entire game to evrima because they understood their game was poorly coded and poorly balanced in an extreme way before with no unique play styles or abilities among the animals. Balance is a thjng they said will be continuously occurring until forever and we’ll beyond final release of the game. I wouldn’t fret about the para situation happening again as I feel confident the team has learned that lesson and will do somethjng to give para an edge in its form which gives it function outside of being a majestic hamburger. All in all you’ve made a fantastic video and I love your accent and you speak English masterfully. But I think the problematic nature of the roster you’re calling to question is largely nothing to worry or fuss over. You’ll see. ☺️💜👍🦕🦖

They could just make a base species that represent a group that players can then customize like the Giga and Carcharodontosaurus that are grouped as the same animal but just look different. Could do that with Hadrosaurs like Para and Corithosaurus to where their crests can be customized to a different species but they are just grouped as basically the same animal.

Diablo and styraco aren’t as similar as you think the styraco was larger and heavier and from what we can see with horns more capable of piercing flesh or at least more of it so that can be translated as more health and damage because of weight it can be slower also higher bleed factor and with more uniqueness we can make them a more defensive style with it not needing to be as aggressive as Diablo is portrayed in legacy basically a more reserved larger ceratopsian but not a 8 ton Apex killer like trike it eould be a medium tier that can hold itself against medium carnivores and struggle against apexes while Diablo needs to avoid apexes and be wary of mediums

power creep isn't exactly applicable here. Because games like "The Isle" are a simulated ecosystem. Sure, there will always be a chunk of people playing Tyrant class dinos. But there will always be people playing things like Dryo's, Dilo's, Cerato's, Pachy's, Sucho's. As long as the devs think about this ass they add more dinos to their games, we're fine.
