After struggling to find the right solution for a couple weeks, I'm so glad I found this video. Cable solution worked for me since I have another docking station already, but thank you!
Hey, i just bought m2 max studio and i'm wondering about what monitor should i get, do you have that 110 or 220 ppi issue? Is it scaling everything right with no processing power loss?
Glad to see you got there in the end. Long-time Mac users with 5K or 49 inch displays always have a USB-to-DP cable handy (sometimes that cable comes with the monitor) as the HDMI work-around for Minis and the Studio are a real pain otherwise. To be fair the info on the Apple website does flag up that the HDMI ports only support 4K… Long time Mac users with non-Apple peripherals also always keep a cheap corded mouse and keyboard somewhere in a cupboard so they can set up new Macs for non-Apple peripherals (you only need the corded stuff for set up once, then they’re back in the cupboard till next time you replace the Mac).
Using the recommended cable with a samsung ultrawide i had screen flicker after the display would go to sleep. MacOS was trying to set the monitor back to "variable refresh rate" after it would wake up each time. Displaying freesync on the monitor itself resolves this issue and it keeps the 120hz native rate. Hope this helps someone.
More modern Monitors should have USB-C or Thunderbolt connection instead of HDMI (which is the less flexible one). M2 does have HDMI 2.1 and can go to 8K but still USB-C or Displayport would be preferred. The LG 49WQ works out of the box with USB-C.
thank you so much for this video. I already have the caldigit you have (I think i bought in the past due to monitor issues with mac and a kvm switch some years ago) and i was able to set the resolution with a Philips 49" superwide curved display 499P9. Now hopefully I like the monitor after using it for a while. Wow it is huge!
I solved the sharpening issue with a program called disablemonitor. With this program it is possible to modify the same resolution that you want to use for HiDPI. MacOS grained the grainy image by reducing the native resolution of the 29 LG ultrawide monitor. I use a USB4/Thunderbolt3 cable on my MacBook Pro m2, which transfers video and power from the LG 29 ultrawide monitor. With an HDMI cable I wouldn't have this problem, but I wouldn't have power on the same cable either.
Thank you so much for this video, you’ve helped out greatly! Also I love the fact that you have the same monitor as me. You also have shown me the light sort of speak. Lol I purchased a monitor lamp like the one you have and it has improved my workflow greatly. Thank you again for this video. I bought the cable it works great
One way I found to help with the wake-up speed is to hook a keyboard to the in-display hub and hit a key or 2 on that keyboard instead of waiting for Mac to wake it up from the Bluetooth keyboard.
I've been considering twin LG 24" 4K Ultrafine monitors versus a single ultra-wide. Your vid gave me something else to be aware of, and potential solutions. Thanks.
I was using dual setup with 16 macbook pro and a dell 24” 4k, just recently switch to a single setup with lg 40 ultrawide. Despite that I do lose ppi on a larger screen, that feeling of immersiveness is incomparable, and I tend to just sit a bit back. So go get an ultrawide!
Love this video, but I have a question I’m planning to get a m2 mac mini with a g9 screen, I read that there is the same problem, so would the cable work as it worked on the mac studio or not?
Great video Sean. Question did you also have same wake problem, or delay with your external monitor with your Macbook ? Mine is a 16" Macbook M1 Max and my monitor is a Dell 49" 4919dw. Resolution works 5140 x 1440, but sometimes the wake up from sleep mode does fail. Please let me know. I am using the original cable from Dell and this never happens with my 13 inches M1 2020 Laptop. Thanks
Hey Sean! I also have the CRG9 and I’m about to get a M2 MacBook Pro 14” base model, i understand it also works with the usb c to DisplayPort but I just wanted to be 100% sure
Hi Sean, with the USB-C to Display port cable are you able to watch 4k video content either in RU-vid or Netflix? I am using my Mac Pro 2013 with a thunderbolt 2 to displace port with the Neo G9 and all 4K videos play at 1080 disregarding the fact that thunderbolt 2 can easily support 4k monitors. I think the compatibility with USB-C is what allows full resolution.
HELP! I have a 2017 MacBook Air & CRG9 49" Monitor....3840x1080 resolution right now....screen works but keeps flashing up the setup guide saying the optimal resolution and my screen with periodically go black every few min then turn back on.... I currently and connected with HDMI to DP cable... What can I do to fix this issue of the setup guide popping up and my screen going black so often? Thanks for any help
Hi! Thanks for video! Please tell me, how much Ghz on your macbook with resolution 5120? Can it use 240 Ghz with Odissey G9? With Type-c or HDMI? Thanks!
In addition to the special cable, did you have to go to a 32-core GPU on your Mac Studio? Or, will a 24-core unit work with your Samsung operating the screen @ 60 Hz refresh rate?
Hi, thanks for your video, very helpful. I wonder whether you could answer this brief question. I have just bought a Mac Studio M2 Max 64gb. Would this screen also work with the new updated Studio with HDMI 2.1 etc? With thanks in advance.
I have the M2 Ultra and had a lot of issues with my Ultra-wide monitor. Kernel panics, app crashes, I ended up switching to 2x 32" monitors. Too bad though, I love the ultra-wide.
Thanks Sean, I'm using the same setup as you but for some reason every few days my monitor doesn't seem to recognize that it's connected to my MacBook Pro 14" M3 and I have to disconnect the MacBook and restart it to get it to work again. Any idea what could be the issue? Thanks
I just got the Lg 49 inch monitor and have the display link docking station. I am using a HDMI to HDMI cable connected to the docking station. The best resolution I see is 2560x1440 at 50hz, and it's all stretched. Not sure how to fix it...:(
Getting a nice cable STILL doesn’t fully fix this problem the text is still not perfect. You can tell that it’s a software scaling problem with Mac’s by just plugging a windows PC into the same monitor and looking at how crisp everything is.
struggling with connecting two monitors to studio, the hdmi connector works fine on monitor 1, I have a usb c to HDMI adaptor for monitor 2, the thing wont even recognize the second monitor connected from the hub. Any solution is appreciated.
I just bought the M1 Mac mini base model (faster ssd than the M2). And I had the G9 since 2022. Can you tell me which cable is best for displayport to thunderbolt? I see you mentioned the maxanor - is this currently the best option?
hi need some help here, I'm gonna buy an ultrawide 34 inch 144hz monitor and macbook pro m1, i really am sceptical about the ports and compatibility of these two, can someone help, what cable to buy, what resolutions to expect
Hi mate, thanks for the video, I have got the cable you recommended and it worked to get 5120 resolution, but the resolution is very pixelated any suggestions please. And what contrast, sharpness have you set thanks
I'm using Mac mini with LG full HD moniter. I'm getting 1920*1080 resolution. But its not HIDPI. Is there any way to fix this and get 1920*1080 with HIDPI?
okeeeey, but how you connect PC?) I connect pc with displayport and only hdmi port i have on my oddesey g9, and i connect macbook pro with hdmi i have 5120x1440 with 60hz, i cannot has 120hz, with switchresx or somthing else, my hdmi cabel is 2.1 8k 30hz, 4k 120hz, but macos too slow for this... maybe...
do you face scaling issues with samsung monitor ? bcz macs run optimally at certain set of resolutions, that's why there monitor in 5k instead of 4k or 6k.
Sean I need help to buy external storage for my video editing. I made a mistake buying base model mac studio (only 512G). What is the solution to upgrade now.
Since you can’t upgrade the internal storage. The only option is buying External SSD. I would recommend getting sandisk pro which is the fastest. There is also non-pro which is still fast and budget friendly. sand disk extreme pro 2TBamzn.to/3Yt3IVd Non-pro 2TB: amzn.to/3FvnXJj
@@aslamsean Thanks. I called Apple and they will return my computer and give me new one with 2TB. Do you think I should ask for more memory? 64G or 32G is enough.. My main goal to edit youtube videos. Watch my channel Dhanak TV USA.
Have you full screened an app into its own space yet? I want a wide monitor like this, but I need three individual spaces to display different apps in those spaces when I swipe left or right with my Magic Mouse. I currently have a Triple 1440p setup, each one is already a separated spaces for apps, but I am trying to consolidate since Apple computers (for decades now, and even with the Mac Studio) always forget which of my three monitors is which, so I am always rebuilding my workspaces everyday. I hope a single wide monitor can solve this, but they need to be able to be split up into individual spaces.
I'm having 3440 x 1440 resolution monitor which runs at 160hz when I use Mac Studio M1 Ultra can I use Bluerigger USB C to DP cable or the cable you suggested in the above video. Because Maxonar cable is ₹4,180 and Bluerigger cable is ₹2,020 in India.
We recently purchased a Mac Studio and a Dell UltraSharp 31.5 4k UHS LCD monitor. We have having issues with the cursor position not being accurately displayed on the screen. EX. You see the cursor over "file" but the computer reads it as over "edit".
Hello, I’m using macStudio Ultra wit Samsung super wide 49” screen. Now I ordered the cable you suggested, but in the meantime I connected hdmi (screen) to usbC (mac) and I cannot regulate the right brightness! Set to full brightness the images are too dark. Any idea how to connect (even in lower resolution) to be able to deal with brightness?

is there a problem with Mac Studio M2 and ultrawide Monitor as well?
But I dont understand why a 49" screen does not have USB-C or thunderbolt port? that would make things soo much easier. it should power deliver to the laptop and offer you one or two USB a ports by itself. no?
Thanks for sharing. how do you like the 49"? to me, on paper the PPI is just too low about 110 if I understand correctly, versus the 200+ of a Macbook Pro...? I dont think I will be comfortable trying to read at that PPI
Yeah it’s mainly for gaming but works great for productivity. Doesn’t stand a chance when compared to MacBook Pro or Studio display in terms of picture quality and color accuracy.
Hi Sean, I just purchased a new Mac studio, a Samsung Odyssey G9, and a Logitech Mx mouse and keyboard. After watching your video, I also got the Maxonar USB C to display port cable. After connecting the computer and monitor, I can’t get the set up screen to appear, so can’t set up and use the Mac, keyboard, mouse, etc. I used the monitor toggle button to make sure the correct port was chosen. I have also tried connecting via HDMI, but no luck. The monitor seems to recognize that something is plugged in to those ports, but the computer evidently doesn’t recognize the monitor. Sorry to bother you with this long note, but I have not found any help yet. Any clues? Thanks very much. Bob
This guy got it to work using the same cable. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ZLycoxjlSo.html Did you try different display port ? On your g9 settings can you go the lowest fps like 60fps and turn off hdr free sync. Then give it a try. Once it turns on then you can play with the settings. I think your g9 might be running at 240hz causing this issue. Let me know how it goes.
@@aslamsean Hi Sean, I realized (by watching another of your videos) that my issue was that my mouse & keyboard do not work out of the box, so I couldn’t get initial set-up accomplished. Argh …! I don’t have a wired keyboard, so I guess I may return my mouse and keyboard for the Apple version just to save the hassle. In any case, Thanks so much for your help - your work is invaluable.
I prefer to use 27 inch monitor but i am confused with resolution choices. (1080, 1440, 4k) Native 4K on 27 inch monitor will look so tiny and hard for my eyes to read. I basically need a 27inch monitor with crispy text and vibrant colour reproduction. What would be the best resolution that work best with MacOS for 27inch monitor? Please suggest
Hey Sean, I took delivery of the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo this morning. Hooked it up to my my MacBook M1 Pro through my new CalDigit TS4. I have a problem. I can't get the screen to split so I can display two or three pages from my MacBook at the same time. Using Thunderbolt from MacBook to my CalD TS4, then display port to display port on the Neo. Please help Sean, am at a loss 🙏
hi, I tried to make my Mac Studio open 4k 120hz by one TB4 to HDMI 2.1 cable, but it is not work, only 4k 60hz, my monitor is LG OLED 42C2, it have 4 HDMI 2.1 port, please give me some suggest, thank you!
Hi Sean, I just obtained the same mac and monitor you were speaking of in your video. Also, the TS4. how do I connect the cables (which cables) to get a higher resolution and hopefully eliminate the delay with the TS 4?
Hi thanks for making the video, I’m wondering what port on the tb dock did you use for the screen? Also what cable did you use and what port on the screen itself did you connect the cable to? I have an owc tb 3 dock, do you think it might work as well?
I have a different LCD and a different problem It's a Philips 499p, with the same resolution and also mac studio m1 max. The problem is that sometimes I get full 5120x1440 and sometimes after waking it up I only get 3840x1080. I'm using pretty good usb-c usb-c cable (around $50) so I guess that shouldn't be a problem. It's getting pretty annoying because I have to unplug and plug the usb-c which doesn't even work all the time. Anyone has a solution pls?
Bruh, you can just try a variety of different cables from different sellers until you find one that works & return the other ones. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on a dock
I purchased the cable with my mac studio and Samsung G8. I only get 3840x2160, are there any other configurations I should change? I may have to invest in the TS3.
Did you try checking resolution in settings? I think g8s native resolution is a lot higher than crg9. Also I think the most you can get out from that cable is 4k resolution. Which is what you are getting.
@@aslamsean thank you for your response. I was able to check again, yes that's the 4K resolution and the max. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Any USB/thunderbolt hubs suggestions?
Hi Sean. Thanks for the video. I was looking to purchase an ultrawide monitor to go with my mac studio. It looks like the Samsung CRG9 Ultrawide that you are using, does not come with a USB-C (Thunderbolt) input, which is why you are facing this issue. Most other ultrawide monitors come with a Type C input which should give the full resolution. I maybe getting an LG or Dell ultrawide.
