WOW, thank you for the video. I knew how the process of sand casting worked, but I never realized the amount of human toil that is involved in the traditional method. This was very interesting.

That almost complete lack of PPE is shocking for a Japanese factory. I would expect this lack of protection in one of the third world factories, but not from an industrial leader such as Japan. Safety issues aside, this is a very efficient and impressive process.
@AppliedCryogenics
@AppliedCryogenics 7 месяцев назад
Yeah! Normally, for operations like this in Japan, they even wear masks and gloves just to handle the casting sand! The emission of fumes from the melting furnace seems fairly low at least. (Compared to Pakistan, anyway. ;) )

In Japan, these gas stoves are used in the food service industry such as schools, welfare facility kitchens, and restaurants, and can be used for decades. Of course, I sometimes burn the stove with gas to remove dirt and repair any malfunctioning parts.

Interesting process BUT, almost no safetyr gear worn by the workers, no foundry boots, walking spreadeagled over orange hot metal when one slip and a fall would mean HORRIBLE BURNS. The management and owners should be ashamed at what they are making their employees do. Japan isnt a third world country but those conditions are.

it's really cool seeing how they do this, but holy crap are there opportunities to streamline and improve the processes. I wonder if they cater to specialty manufacturers... Examples: They should be orienting the molds the same way so they can just have a pouring system to dispense exactly enough iron into each mold and eliminate the need for someone to be put in harms way. They should invest in a CNC to drill the holes in the parts instead of doing it manually. Scraps from the mold process should be dropped into a chain belt and into the buckets instead of having someone drag MOLTEN METAL between their legs 20 feet. They should sand blast instead of grind every part into shape. Parts that have cooled from their molds shouldn't be thrown into a pile. They should be moving through a sifting conveyor belt.
@1738Creations
@1738Creations 6 месяцев назад
..and there's a reason they're better quality than anything made in the US and sell for a hell of a lot more.
@fastweirdo
@fastweirdo 6 месяцев назад
@@1738Creations The suggestions I made are irrespective of sacrifices in quality. Sure, they sell for more, but their margins are also slimmer. Japanese companies are also notorious for stubborn pricing (many would rather go out of business than raise prices), so they are only losing money every year by not identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to reduce waste and inefficiency.
