Thank you for posting this review! I have been looking into getting a new phone stand (I purchased an off brand Olivia stand). The depth and effort you put into this video is amazing, it really answered all of my questions (my current stand’s base is constantly in frame and when I was looking at the canvas instagram they didn’t have many videos of the lamp being used for top down video!)

Great review. It was good to understand the two sizes they offer. Thanks for measuring and talking about that. Think I will hold off on a purchase. All the issues you pointed out would be concerns for me too especially for this price point.

So glad you posted this! The short cord is a definite NO for me! I agree this would be so much better with batteries and having a more portable option! I am so sick of the cords under my desk and don't want another one that is as short as this one too.

Thank you for your review. It's great to hear another perspective. I have the larger model which makes it much easier to create my calligraphy/art video's. I purchased the MagSafe magnet which connects to your phone - easier to use than the clamp. I personally don't hear the noise that you talk about, but I do agree that it would be great if the cord was longer. Overall, this lamp works well for the type of video that I need to produce.

I would just wear noise cancelling headphones or listen to music when using this lamp haha Thak you for such a thorough review!

I find it a pain to position my phone and not get the base or part of the holder in the shot. Maybe because I'm filming larger items? Mine doesn't have that noise (thankfully). It's shaky with my heavier iphone Pro Max. I'm with you on the cord, too short! Also, why not have a wall plug with it. My extension cord doesn't have a USB so I have to find a wall mount to use it. It seems like a huge pain to use it as they show for selfies, so I haven't tried that yet. I don't know if I still have those parts. All in all a bit pricey for what it is but the light is good and I wish they had better tutorials on different phone placements and how to position it correctly. I fiddle with it too much every time.

Good review. I’m not going to spend $200 on one of these now. I’ve got a good ring lamp for my desktop and use the Olivia stand for my phone. Takes up a lot of space, but it works for me.

For those who cannot manage a more professional lighting video set up this is an excellent solution. The lightbulb sound is probably not audible to everyone? And use a safe extension cord if needed. There is a larger phone clamp also available, and I went for the remote button. Thanks for the review

There is no noise on mine. Also you can purchase a magnet separately to attach the phone which is really easy. I’m so glad I bought this and filming is so easy

Thank you for this review! I remember seeing ads for these all the time. I can't believe how cheap the light controller/cord is and the hum of the light. That's pretty unacceptable for a product that's tagged at a semi-pro/luxury price IMO.

Noted! Can a portable charger work well with the light or is it not powerful enough? I know it’s meant to be used for primarily USB and maybe a portable charger can solve the issue of a shorter cord/portability (with the cost of carrying the charger around). I also know that Canvas has a magnetic phone mount MagSafe for the phone, which could solve the clamp issue unless the magnet is too strong? Edit: I received my Canvas mini lamp and it does in fact have that annoying high pitched noise - but ONLY on the neutral light setting. The cool and warm settings don’t emit that noise, not sure what causes it. I also tested a portable charger, it does work! The clamp is definitely a pain to get used to with how tight it is 😭

I just got my lamp in the mail. I can only hear the buzzing if I put my ear up against it and my husband can't hear it at all. Older people cannot hear high pitch noise, that's the only good thing about old age! Thank you for the review, now I wish I had purchased the magnetic holder with it.

Most lamps of any type will not be right next to a powerpoint & so will need an extension powercord, so this 'problem' really makes little sense to me, so Im wondering if I'm missing your point in this. thanks for your review though

Thanks for this review; while I would love this set up, but I agree for the price point it should be perfect. I also heard some people say the light gets very hot; was your experience similar? Maybe a future generation of this device would be better.

I have one and I haven’t heard the noise on mine, next time I use it I will listen for it. I bought the MagSafe magnet and I like it much better than the annoying clamp.

Does the sound show up in videos you record on the phone? Thats an important thing to know for me

Thank you for this review! It's hard to find honest reviews of these lamps because the way they organize reviews on their website is sneaky and deliberately makes it difficult to find critical input. Instead of listing the reviews for each individual product on each product's page, the reviews for ALL products are lumped together in one big mass, sorted from best to worst regardless of date submitted, so that at first glance there appears to be nothing but 5 star reviews. You must load page after page to find any lower ratings. The 4 star reviews actually don't appear until *26 pages* in. The White Original Lamp only has 3.5 stars and 7 reviews, but it's almost impossible to read those reviews and find out what people don't like about it because they're buried in hundreds of reviews for other products. Sorry for the rant but that feels shady (dark pattern?) and makes me not want to trust their company or products!

What noise?

life hack, insert a stiff placeholder (made of tin or sturdy plastic) a millimeter or two wider than the width of your phone before you slide your phone out of the clasp.

Maybe it's my ears, but mine is silent. Hmm... But the clasp, oh yes. I have pinched my fingers and hate that. Overall I love it, but that mount clasp needs a handle or something!

I can definitely hear the noise. That’s excruciating.
