I feel a bit of negativity in this comments section. Is it possibly a bit of jealousy from the none UK, Europeans on here? I think It would be a huge success, and Europeans absolutely would visit. The UK already has a huge tourism industry and this would end up being a must visit for many of the international visitors. I live about 3 hours away in car from kempston Hardwick, and already know I would visit several times a year.
@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
You think so? Haven't really felt that much negativity, but rather some hesitation when it comes to details like the numbers. It's important to remember that before Brexit, Europeans could visit the UK without a passport, while now, the need for a passport does complicate it a little more. As a Portuguese, I know that if I want to go to a theme park I need to travel, be that to Disneyland Paris, Port Aventura or (hopefully one day) Universal GB, so it's 100% fine by me!

Ever since this was first announced you had pro EU fanatics on certain forums talking it down. It should be in the EU, brexit, people won’t travel to the UK…. So I completely agree. If they want to keep it open all year round, they will need a lot of indoor rides. Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure is a great ride, but would you want to ride that in the middle of January on a wet and windy English day?
@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
Definitely. In Bedford, it rains pretty much the same amount of days as in Disneyland Paris, so some measures would need to take place. The Orlando parks would never work here because of the different weather. Although, I'd be more than glad to ride Hagrid's anytime, anywhere! ;)

@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
I've been following those rumours for quite a while, and I still believe that Universal could very well be looking at a two resort approach, with both PAW and GB. Even so, things have been quiet at the Spanish front, personally I don't believe that ends the rumours as quite a bit has happened. Either way, PortAventura is looking amazing with great operations, many refurbishment projects and more, and someone is behind this investment. Is it Universal? Well, that remains to be seen.
@EspenSGX

Why buy a resort that will need a fortune spending on it when you can just start from scratch. People will say universal used to own PA, they didn’t, not completely as they only owned 40%. And the universal that had a 40% stake in PA isn’t the same universal we see today, they have a different parent company for starters. It’s just not going to happen.

@LeeleeSTAR
@LeeleeSTAR Месяц назад
Im very much looking forward to this. I do wonder though if the details revealed by the parish council were actually leaks from universal or them just repeating rumours as i heard the 4 restaurant/500 hotel room bit a few days before the parish meeting. I agree that it is hopefully just the main hotel that is 500 rooms that will feature as part of the entrance to the park like in DLP. I assume at leasy one other cheaper hotel would be built. If universal miss the boat on the hotel capacity then companies like premier inn will probably pop up in the surrounding areas.
@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
I do not believe the council would use rumours, but rather the rumours came from a leak somewhere in their process. Universal is clearly learning from the problems that plagued Euro Disney and having too many hotels with too many rooms and nowhere near the guests to fill them was one. I do think 500 rooms is an extremely low number, but one that can be fixed by simply building more hotels as need be.

There is no indication of it being a Studios themed Park. During the public consultation a Universal exec said the Park will be a mix between IOA and Epic Universe, neither is a Studios themed Park.
@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
That’s very interesting because Universal has registered the domain “UniversalStudiosGreatBritain.com” which would indicate it is in fact a Universal Studios park. It’s important to note that Beijing is also a Studios park, and that is a mix of IOA, USF and Epic Universe, in some ways

That’s a good question. Personally I can’t see them not using Harry Potter or Minions. From what I’ve seen, it’s not the IP’s that won’t be copied but rather the attractions, so we could definitely see them use Minions in a different offer to that of Orlando. HP is harder because of the HP Studios, so we’ll see how that evolves. I think it will be interesting to see how successful this park will be. It can be a huge success or an underperformer. Both scenarios are very possible. Universal chose the uk as a location, because the uk was always the gate into europe for american companies. Due to Brexit this has changed, but for themeparks it should not matter. If this park is successful, then universal can go into two directions. The question is how many people from mainland europe are willing to travel to this new park. If people from mainland europe make a sizeable part of the attendence, then universal can build a huge resort. If not, then we will see more smaller parks in europe that try to be the top dog of their region. One thing that won't happen is a battle between Disney and Universal. Disneys main competitors are Efteling and Europapark. Any other park has a different target demographic in mind. If the Universal builds lets say exciting rollercoasters, then they already have another target audience. I think the main draw will be the ips. The two main ones are Nintendo and Harry potter. It is no suprise that epic universe has chosen these two ips in their park. Anything else is up to you to speculate. I say good luck Universal.
@nospeedboundaries
@nospeedboundaries Месяц назад
In 2022 Disneyland Paris had about 10 million visitors while Efteling and Europapark had around 5 million each. They are very much not serious competition. If Universal does it right, they’ll def be Disneys main competition in Europe with all of their available IP’s and attractions.
@kalzium8857
@kalzium8857 Месяц назад
@@nospeedboundaries Europapark and Efteling have the most similar experience to Disney. Both offer highly themed experiences with a focus on family friendly attractions. Furthermore both parks have still a good selection of darkrides. So they are competing for the same niche. Also since you are using attendence numbers. Disneyland paris attendence numbers are stagnating. In the past they were close to 12 mio visitors. While these two competitors had more like 4 mio visitors. Basicly the non Disneyparks are catching up.
@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
In 2022 (last public numbers) Disneyland Paris had 15.3 million guests in their both theme parks. Europa Park had 6 million in their theme and water parks, nothing comes close to Disney's strength in the European scale. Universal could.
@kalzium8857
@kalzium8857 Месяц назад
@@themainstreetnews 15 mio may sound impressiv on the first sight. But we could count all Merlin parks together to show how dominant they are in europe. Disneys second park is completly carried by the first park. I think most visitors visit either the main park or both. But the ones that visit only the second park are a minority. I think Disney invests so much in the second park two convince people to visit both parks.
@nospeedboundaries
@nospeedboundaries Месяц назад
@@kalzium8857 you’re forgetting that Disney is essentially doubling the size of one of their parks next year and Will continue to expand it. That Will surely add more visitors to the parks. Universal also has Dark rides and family friendly rides Will still having a focus on thrill rides. It Can absolutely be Disney’s number 1 competition in Europe. It’s also a very Well known brand in the Theme Park world and amongst the general public.

That 8.5 million number is clearly ridiculous, so I have a feeling it's more about CityWalk visits. And that number is probably including everyone that uses the new train stations for non-Universal use. 8.5M could easily be reached if the Mixed-Use area gets a bunch of flats in it, which is what I think "Mixed-Use' refers to. Numbers would also escalate if an indoor water park is included from the get-go.
@themainstreetnews
@themainstreetnews Месяц назад
The number is indeed quite high. From the letter it's also impossible to determine if they mean from the first phase or from a later phase of the resort, even if I believe it's the first option. I believe the Mixed Use will be space for everything from Hotels, Cast Member housing, Special Events, Green Parks, etc. I do not see them having rides outside of the park, it has never happened. Although, I could see the 8.5M figure be for visitors to the resort, including the CityWalk, but how would they even count that?
