The Proper Way to Use a Blue Yeti

The Blue yeti microphone gets a bad wrap for being a horrible microphone because it picks up so much background noise (it does). This is often caused by having the settings wrong on the microphone and not being close enough to the microphone and not using a pop filter. The pop filter (like the microphone ) is a little more expensive than it needs to be (I recommend the ATR2100 USB microphone), but if you have a Blue Yeti, the first thing you can start doing is to stop talking into the top of it, and put it in the cardoid position. My "pop filter" is a wire clothes hanger bent into a diamond shape and covered with a nylon knee-high stocking. When using the Blue yeti microphone as you described, the system works great.

That was helpful as the Blue Yeti is what I have and Cardoid or Omni buttons on the back. Pop filter works well with Cardoid. Thanks. Cousin Hoagy

just make your own pop filter out of a coffee filter and a ring the size of your liking, then take a couple sticks and glue or tape it to a surface to block the "P" sounds.

Had to buy blue yeti to be compatible with my iPad Pro... the ATR 2100 was no longer able to link up properly - Also, I’ve adapted my adjustable mic stand to hold the blue yeti so it’s no longer sitting on the table - curious to see how it performs now, but honestly; it’s just nice to have a mic that works!

If you use a stand, have the setting right to pick up from the front (only) and get a pop filter you can get a great sound (assuming you're in a quiet room). These kinds of headaches is why I recommend not using an iPad to create your podcast. You CAN but there is usually some sort of hurdle that you wouldn't have if you were using a computer. Glad to hear you're back in action.

I’m upset that I clicked on an ad disguised as advice

I have to agree with the commenter that this is really an ad for another microphone. Are there 3 pieces of info that pertain to the title? Yes. Does the speaker spend more time discussing how expensive it is and how other options are better in his opinion, what those options are and where to get them? (He does). It would be totally fine if the title of the video were altered to be more transparent, and targeted an audience of people shopping for mics, but most people seeking the proper way to use a particular mic are people who already purchased it. They do not need, nor do they particularly want to be told they should have gotten something else. Whether the speaker was or was not receiving funding for promoting the other mic, the mixed messages and the feeling of being baited and switched, eroded any trust I might have had.

Sorry Joe. Didn't mean to frustrate you. You are right I could've gotten to the point sooner. Bottom line, don't talk into the top of it, and use the icon that looks like a heart.

I had it the right mode. but you can still hear every mouse button click and keypress pretty darn loud on any recording.

Have you tried putting a noise gate filter on your streaming software? I use streamlabs obs and that works great

What am I doing wrong that my mic sounds "echoey" for a lack of knowledge of the proper term? I actually have atr2100 but it is hidden in a box somewhere from my move so I've been testing other mics I've bought. I have a couple of shutgun mics that sound good like the yeti but are "echoey." Oddly enough my smart phone mic doesn't have that problem. I also just got some Kimafun wireless lavaliers that were recommended to me that aren't echoey but are very quiet and have background noise. I guess I could clean it up in audacity and increase the volume but would rather try to figure out how to get a nice sound at record time.

You have somewhat answered your own question. You used a dynamic microphone and didn't have an issue and then switched the microphone and these issues started. Go find your atr2100. If you can't find it, check out the Samson Q2U it's very similar to the atr2100. supportthisshow.com/q2u

I'm awful at this right now but some of this video I had done with a Yeti and I just couldn't get rid of the hollow sound so switched to a kimifun lav mic for one part, and my audio technica 2100x for another and after denoise it's not too bad. The yeti is way better out of the box though, much louder, and better if you have multiple people talking from different angles. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_aSaq68SF-U.html

Thanks for reaching out. The volume can be set in your software (in fact it should be) so you make sure you have a good signal. A signal that's too low can introduce hiss into your recording.

pardon my intrusion here, but how is this video: "How to Use A Blue Yeti"? He just talks about a simple mode change and then tells you buy a different mic....clickbaited...

Maybe I didn't point out that people are talking into the top of the microphone in picture after picture and video after video see www.live.shepodcasts.com/speaker/rachel-luna/ yet another person talking into the top of the microphone. You talk into the side of the microphone, and the best setting in the cardioid pattern not in the omnichannel
