Yep. Work from home or work from anywhere basically means you always "ON". I have traveled with my laptop for 20 years. It is rare that I take a vacation and not have my laptop with me. I am a 25 year vet in the IT industry, but I love it. I would not have it any other way.

Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future…

Big one, salary he's talking about isn't common. More common salary for cyber security roles, like in a SOC, is a lot less than he's talking about. So that's the biggest con, is depending on the company/job, you'll be on call, and you won't be getting paid 200k, if you're tier/level 1 in a NOC/SOC... You aren't getting 150-200k a year, gonna be more like 40-80k a year. So if you can deal with that in a cyber security role, for a time... (1-3 years) and learn enough and do well enough to move up, you can get to what he's talking about, he's not talking an entry level security role. Cyber security is a great field if you're into that sector of IT, but it's not just... Get some certs and jump into a 200k role. No, MAJORITY of people it takes them at least 1-3 years to get to what he's talking about. Some even longer, some have taken the long path to the field like 5-10 years, working in other parts of IT like help desk, sysadmin, network admin/engineer etc. These days, good path is other part of IT for 1-3 years, then apply to cyber jobs.

He didn't name the real con in this short clip, and that's...if you don't like cyber security, (ie, you end up not wanting to keep up with it, and there is a lot to keep up with outside of work btw) its burn out central, it's not one of those sectors of IT where you can just slog through and keep up with the job enough to support yourself or your family...no it requires a lot. Cyber roles are like the top of burn out in IT, the second most burn out for people is usually Network Engineering. So if you can keep from burning out, it's great. But you gotta really love that field of IT to not burn out, and you NEED to keep up with it, like every day you need to stay on top of exploits regardless if you're on the blue or red. Because here's the truth, when you start burning out, you will slip up more and more...and it won't be a situation at that point of asking yourself if you want to be in it or do something else in IT or not, no, your job will be on the line at that point. Don't get it twisted, they get rid of people who can't hang, regularly ans they do it quickly. So don't think Cyber is one of those parts of IT where you get chance after chance after chance to mess up, no you only get so much string to hang yourself, kind of like in network engineering, you only get so many chances at fvcking up the network stoping a companies production. Problem in Cyber security is they are having issues hiring people who are motivated enough, or who know enough...also problem with burn out, alert fatigue etc. Some people don't make it out of tier/level 1 NOC/SOC positions, they end up quitting or getting replaced. There's a reason the level he's talking about gets paid like they do. And btw the pay hes talking about here in cyber is level 2+... nobody in level 1 is getting paid 200k a year, more like 40-80k (yes it does vary by that much depending on company). And 200k is the high end of tier/level 2, more like 90-150k usually, 200 it as more rare at level 2. Level 3..well, that's like crazy money, they can get like 400k+...many times close to a million depending on the company. I can tell by this dudes interviews that he really loves IT, and he loves security. And that's why he was able to make it to where he's at at the pace he did, and continue to thrive in that space. Again people, don't look at the salary he's talking about and think oh hell yeah I can do it for that much, oh really? Could you do it for 50k? 60k? 80k? Because if you can't, don't bother. Those jobs (multiple security roles) isn't what you think it is, you better love providing security support to a companies data assets, because it does not stop. Not on birthdays, or holidays, or deaths of a family member, or on birth of a child...it doesn't stop. IDK, I think its a dope and exciting field...but so are many parts of IT, and cyber really asks a lot of people. They aren't paying him that much for nothing. Fires do happen just like in other parts of IT, in fact cyber security fires, are damn near the worst IT fires...so you gotta be on point.

If I finally made 150k or higher 😅 I will work even if it’s passed my bedtime or they bug me for something on my vacation. I understand we have work life balance but I can see that anything cybersecurity related definitely asks for some form of IT support. Maybe if you’re the go to guy/girl then yes they will ask you. If you are the senior engineer analyst etc then yes. I’d want that clearly stated before I take on a new role and transparency is key before accepting any type of job.

@techisthenewblack
@techisthenewblack Год назад
Absolutely, dealing with false positives can be a common occurrence in the field of cybersecurity. However, when a true positive is identified, it can have significant implications and require immediate action to mitigate the potential threat. It's important to have the necessary tools, skills, and processes in place to effectively distinguish between false and true positives and respond accordingly. The ability to identify and respond to real threats is crucial in maintaining the security of an organization's systems and data.

I'm currently studying in institute and my specialty is cybersecurity (or technical protection of information, as they call it) It definitely seems interesting, despite all the cons (a lot time working, bad for eyes) However, what bugs me is the fact that the degree will be specialist but not bachelor. Which means it will be problematic to continue studying after graduating (Western unis don't really know what is a specialist degree because there's no such thing out there), so I'm also practicing programming in order to be able to apply for various jobs

Sometimes I’d get called out after duty hours to drive 50-60 miles to fix a truck that was broken down somewhere or wouldn’t start. They record their classes In case you miss any. They are not partnered with tech companies, but they fix your resume & LinkedIn to industry standards and they assist you with finding jobs to apply to - in order to help set you up on interviews. They also do interview coaching & provide really good interview cheat sheets. They’re about $4k, but I have a $300 discount link that you use with their sales too! The discount Is attached to the link automatically. Careerist Discount Link: crst.co/techisthenewblack 2. CourseCareers is self paced. You can finish it in 3 weeks or 3 months. Had a revelation of driving trucks don't make sense anymore and It give me hope as to my choice of going back to school this year in cybersecurity if theses are some of the challenge i will face. Question… if you’re on call how long do you have to work when you’re on call? Is it for a short problem or for a full work day?

Hey! It depends on the situation, but typically on-call work involves addressing urgent issues as they arise, which can vary in duration.
