Hello everyone and welcome to first video of this year’s Noirvember challenge, 2022 edition! This year once more has happened so fast, I almost can't believe it's this time of the year again, can you? If you are new to this channel, my name is Miriam and I will be devoting the whole month of November to film noir. In this video I will attempt to cover THE PROWLER (1951), a film that really surprised me and that I have wanted to discuss ever since I watched it. I hope you enjoy and stick around to celebrate film noir!

I’m a bit late to the party but what a fantastic choice for Noirvember Miriam! It’s one of my favourite noirs. Having watched it numerous times what strikes me is how unfortunate Susan’s character is. There’s defiantly an ‘ouroboros’ quality to her fate in that she ends up exchanging ‘entrapment’ by her controlling husband for ‘imprisonment’ by the state due to her mendacious entanglement with Webb. Her looking out from ‘behind the window’ in her opening bathroom scene to her again looking out from ‘behind the window’ in her last scene in the shack, I think symbolises this unfortunate, seemingly repeating entrapment!

As a Gone With the Wind fan, I bought Evelyn Keyes' autobiography when I was a teen. WOW! It was quite an eye-opener! I've always looked for her movies because of this and agree, her best work that I've seen was in The Prowler!

That is so cool to know! I have only read excerpts but I could really tell she was a firecracker. I can only imagine, the times and the people! Thank you for watching, Jewel.

The Prowler is a movie that looks European something... one can smell the work of Harold Pinter that will come later on... It also has some ambiguous meaning that could make think that the movie has something irational or surreal. Losey was a master of ambiguity and baroque. Usa were too simple for such an artist.
