Psycho 2 is such a gem.

I always liked the sequels and believed they were (to varying degrees) faithful to the original vision. Good retrospective and thanks for posting.

@Brickwall Pictures I'm glad you did this video because, I remember watching Psycho 2 as a teenager and it was fantastic! In fact, I created lyrics to the piano music Norman plays (which I now know is Beethoven's "Moonlight sonata") because that scene shows how sad and regretful he truly is. And I loved enacting the scenes as I re watched it. I was a teenager after all LOL I love how through out Psycho 2, 3 and 4 Norman has a proper evolution of character, personality and even a victory in defeating and freeing himself of his Mother. Because, Norman's Mother is, in his own mind, a unresolved trauma. Blocking him from moving on. Psycho 4 is a great resolution. Norman IS the ULITMATE victim and has been ever since his childhood. You could argue that THE PAST is the villain in the Psycho movies. There's an analogy to Perkins' own life here. He was forever trying to escape the shadow of Psycho - as is Norman. In both, of their cases, the PAST IS the villain. Both wanted to be free and both were dragged back to repeating their past. And can we, the viewers, say we're any better? David

After all these years, the suicide scene is the one scene that stands out the most to me and is my favorite moment of the Psycho series. Solid work!

Psycho II has its fans, but Psycho III is undervalued for sure. Perkins was heavily inspired by giallo cinema that's very apparent when watching Psycho III. There's a missed opportunity in that the relationship between Norman & the lead character could have & should have been richer than it was, but otherwise it's quite good.

I watched the series in Junior High and have always maintained that Psycho II is the best, mostly on the basis of plot. The premise is so much more interesting and layered than that of the first. Deep Yes to Perkins giving the character more depth and sympathy. And another, different kind of Yes to loving the shovel kill. Was worrying that final line in my head for weeks after that "You're sure you won't have a sandwich?"

Dude I never hear anyone talk about the Psycho sequels, and when they do it's only Psycho 2. And yea, like you said, the tide is turning on 2, but people still dont like 3 & 4. I've been defending all the Psycho sequels since I first saw them way back when, I'm so happy more people are talking about them now, even if just for this one video. I would also say check out the 1987 Bates Motel TV Movie. It's a direct sequel to Psycho, ignoring the events of 2, 3, & 4 to tell it's own story. It's fun in that "so bad it's good" kind of way. I'd also say to check out The Psycho Legacy which is a documentary that comments on the influence that Psycho has had on cinema, really great stuff.

@@Donathon-xt2nl Yup. I like it in that "so bad it's good" type of way, so take that for what you will. I'll admit I havent seen it in some time, so my opinion on it may change, but thats just me

'Psycho II' is even better than the Hitchock original in my view. Its so rewatchable and Jerry Goldsmith's score is far better than Herrmanns although Herrmanns was fantastic. Your point about the filmmakers waiting for Hitchcock to croak before making the sequel is nonsense though as they made sure they had Pat Hitchcocks (his daughter and co-star of the original) blessing before shooting and acknowledged him in the end credits as well as featuring his famous silhouette in the film so 'Psycho II' has its own Hitchcock cameo, even though posthumous!
