We don't know you because of the The Paletta Pink Tip, we know the Paletta Pink Tip because it has your name on it!!! In fact, the only reason I have that coral in my tank is because it's the OG classic that is famous because of your contribution to the hobby Mike!! Thanks for your contribution!!!

Hey man I just wanted to tell you how much i appreciate your podcast. I watch quite a few podcasts, and yours in short time it’s been around has elevated my tank more than I could ever have imagined. Your advanced level podcast is extremely easy to digest and you just ask the right questions. So for that I am thankful. Keep them coming!!!

35 years of reef tank in same house. 55 gal 70 gal Current 90 gallons. Only 2.5 days without tank while waiting for delivery of 90 and painted wall behind. Kept livestock in tubs during 2.5 days. Love the hobby!

I see my tank as a nursing home where the animals get old and I try to make sure they have a nice life. Loss is a part of a nursing home. I haven't put any fish, coral, etc in the tank in almost 3 years and I don't intend to ever do it. It's not easy though, every now and then I come up with reasons to break the promise.

I saw "phycology"; looked it up; and thought this was going to be a discussion with an expert on algae growth. :)

Even if I'm worried about my tank, and it consumes my thoughts, I'm happy I'm not focused on other life bs that I cannot control.

Love the convo ! Very interesting and quite informative! I would note the efficiency and cost effectiveness of LED’s far surpasses metal halides as efficiency can be measured as lumens/watts and when factoring in lumen loss over time and usage ratings that’s why LED lights are 9 times out of ten more widely used (:
@TheIneption
@TheIneption 8 месяцев назад
It's not only about lumens sadly especially for Sps. If you ever use Halide or T5 Vs led you will see the difference in growth. It almost makes no sense as lumen is lumen , but there is something else that MH provides that led doesn't....
@floweringreefs206
@floweringreefs206 8 месяцев назад
@@TheIneption yes and no efficiency has nothing to do with how it grows coral as there’s no quantifiable data… I have used and seen all lighting options I used to work at TSA before graduating and becoming an engineer.. I’m not Saying LED’s grow coral better because theres no quantifiable data I’m just saying in terms of efficiency, longevity, lumen retention etc LED’s far surpass all other options…. I do agree that MH and T5 will probably have a broader spectrum range and have benefits but you can’t bring that into an efficiency conversations

I did mention this in the intro.. he meant to say ammonium bicarbonate ;)

I’m always fascinated with the bacteria. Question, the bottled products I kind of agree with Mike. I don’t get why they recommend weekly dosing. If you look at dosing, bacteria more as a function of coral feeding, maybe that’s a different story. PNS, pro bio would be one product I would consider for that purpose. My personal opinion is if you really want bio diversity, you have to periodically add live rock, live sand, or live mud into your systems.

On the podcast with reef bum, Mike and sanjay said they was dosing ammonia hydroxide. This time he said that he was using hydroxide. But you said he wanted us to know to use ammonia carb or bicarbonate. Just a little confusing. Not that I'm gonna dose ammonia for anything because my nutrients are high.

You can dose ammonia hydroxide. It’s just going to give you a ph boost too
