What’s the movie The Purge - Election Year about?
In 2022, Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell from Gia and Running Scared) watches helplessly as her parents are tortured by a psychopath on the night of the annual Purge. In 2040, Charlie is now a senator running for president with the main goal of abolishing the Purge. This is frowned upon by the New Founding Fathers, the reactionary government for whom the Purge is a way to get rid of people in need to save money but also to play violent and macabre games with the rich. For the first time since its inception, the Purge institutes a new rule: no group or citizen will be exempt. The NFFA decides that on the night of this new Purge they will send a commando to kidnap him and shoot him during one of their ceremonies. Meanwhile, Joe Dixon (Mykelti Williamson from Forrest Gump and Ali) and his assistant Marcos (Joseph Julian Soria) decide to protect their store from the Purge. During the night of the Purge, Charlie is betrayed by an agent from her protection team. Her primary security guard, Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo from Dirty Cops and Warrior), is then forced to evacuate her. In town, they are attacked by a group of tourists but are narrowly saved by Joe and Marcos. Also helped by Laney Rucker (Betty Gabriel from Upgrade), a close friend of Joe, the group will have to try to survive but especially to save Charlie who is their only hope to abolish the Purge.
