Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole world’s been thinking about how best to fight infection. And two cell types in particular have become immunity celebrities - T and B cells.
But these cells were not always so well understood, in fact their function only came into focus in the 1950s and 1960s, when two researchers working on opposite sides of the world started to piece together the mystery of a previously ignored organ called the thymus.

For the record, professor Cooper is only 2 years younger. He has been regularly churning out 3-4 research papers a year recently. I guess infectious diseases keep away from this guy, he knows too much.

Amazing, what a joy it is to live and know your life is not wasted and is rather productively used to discover something that makes the quality of life of the entire humanity better.

Using your life to do sth productive in order to improve humanity should be the basis for every job. Maybe we should start paying by importance... then soccer professionals would not get payed millions for playing a game and caretakers would not have to struggle with minimum wage
@funnyvideos-funnyoutloud2618
@@MisterK9739 it is called meritocracy, and I have read and thought about it for more than a decade now, it just doesn't work without constant societal multifaceted education, even in that case it crumbles if the "deserving" elite decides that it is their privilege to choose what is right now for the society.

@@slurvtrutl526 Because fame comes only to fields with public interest: sports, music, politics.... But who in the general public really cares about microbiology, immunology, theoretical physics etc? That's a tautology. Perhaps the alternative is to sterilize everything that comes in instead, as plants try to do with e.g. curcubitin or to have (e.g. nucleic acid) memory safety nonces prevent buffer overwrites and use after free or race conditions, as applied in some new organism designs. To then wind up with some effectiveness against parasites and varied horizontal gene transfer vectors would be an impressive result.

Everyone with allergies has an overbearing mother. It's the body's nervous response to a hostile social environment. Doctors don't understand because they never see their patients socially, and are trained to suggest it was something they ate - a chemical reaction, rather than something they saw or experienced.

So, the appendix that everyone has removed may have a function unknown?
@kf1000
@kf1000 Год назад
Yes, it has a function. Your intestines contain a bunch of creatures (bacterias, etc.), very important to digestive health. Occasionally, when you get very, very sick, your intestines empty out. One theory is that the appendix, holds some of these creatures, to repopulate your intestines.

This video, perhaps maliciously, omits the pertinent fact that the thymus was radiated in babies because it was considered “too large” -compared to that of dissected corpses- which perfectly exemplifies the perennial dilemma in industrial medicine: The limited knowledge coupled with the characteristic categorical hubris that has resulted in so much harm caused. The triumphalism in the reporting of the purported “successes” always hides the catastrophic failures in this overall dark gray history. [Industrial] medicine is a racket. No clearer example than the world destruction we endured during the Covid shamble. #Nuremberg2Now

Ultimately, science will make mistakes along the way. Some of them grander than others. We will always be striving for better however we will not know what we do not know until much later on with hindsight. Radiation treatment has been beneficial to many with cancer and even those with broken bones are examined with X-rays.
