I can't believe the workers weren't even interviewed?? You'd think strangers with access to her apartment would be the first point of call.

Any loss of a youngster is appalling. They do not have to be beautiful, smart or amazing . Some are just ordinary or even not bright but their loss is just as sad .

I love how he, unlike 99.9% of channels like this actually sends his condolences to those who suffer pain from their family’s/friend’s passing.

As a woman who’s just chilling on the couch, reading while listening to this story, I’m creeped out. How horrifying.

The drug addict said he was high. It’s very possible he didn’t remember what day it was and lost track. Since he would have been the only person other than the police to know she was murdered on the couch, he should have been investigated more thoroughly

I live in South Africa and remember this case very well. I lived in Bellville, Cpt 20 minutes away from Stellenbosch. Cape Town and the Western Cape have one of the highest crime rates in the world especially the sheer brutality of murders committed. The sad part is that the South African government is too useless and spineless to address the high crime rate in South Africa. We have a spineless corrupt minster of police that is too useless to drive crime down or to take action against criminals! Thank you for covering this very sad case.

It does bother me that police, more often than not, assume “overkill” is only done by those with intimate knowledge or ties a victim. While it DOES make sense to look into it and, statically speaking, it can be more likely in certain cases, it’s NOT uncommon for a violent offender to release that kind of rage, by proxy, on a surrogate.

Very sad. I feel for her parents who lost their only child and did not receive justice.

Cops need to be prosecuted when they break the rules and do not follow procedures. an example would be returning one of the key pieces of evidence with the fingerprint on the DVD. Why return it to the rental place? 10-year-olds would be able to follow the procedure of holding on to evidence

One of the best true crime documentaries I have ever watched. Seems to me that that kid who was granted clemency or whatever after confessing to killing her should've been investigated more thoroughly.

Sounds to me one of the tradesmen returned to the house by using the key/fob taken earlier. They were never questioned. If I were the police that’s the first thing I would have looked into. Sad case.

This terrifying to hear. I did everything she did. I didn’t move into my apartment until it was totally safe. This is just so heartbreaking. She seemed like a sweet girl doing everything she could to do well in life.

I was 14 and in grade 8 when this murder happened. It was the talk of the school (Cape Town based) at the time. None of us were surprised when SAPS botched the investigation and everyone was frustrated that the killer got away with it... RIP Inge, I hope one day you will get justice

Every cop that was involved in the mishandling of that case needs to be charged with obstruction of justice and sheer negligence.

I have lived in cape town for four years. Have been to stellenbosch many times and the whole country is breathtakingly beautiful. But the constant safety threat is horrendous. I never felt safe, and have never met so many people in my life, who had at least one friend or family member that had been murdered. As much as I missed SA when I left, I didn't miss the constant danger that surrounded us.

Man, safety is one thing, but if I had to feel like I lived in a prison just to live in South Africa, I wouldn't be living there at all.

a part from this case. i find it hard to imagine to live in a place where you need gated community to actually feel somewhat safe. in south africa it seems quite common, at least everytime i watch a case from south africa, people live in such high security communities. i feel blessed to generally feel safe where i live.

Complete police incompetence in South Africa... sounds about right😓

The crucial and damning evidence for me is the letter. The crossed out line about never cheating on him and the rest of the letter plus the fact he gave the parents a different version. Fred wrote that letter himself and gave away the reason he killed Inga. She cheated on him and that was the reason for the huge argument. He then worked on his alibi, calling people before sending his friend to find the body, a devious move that ensured he wasn't on the scene. Imo a killer got away with it. No sex before marriage but murder is ok eh Fred. That's one messed up church.

Why was it never mentioned that obviously it wasn’t him as he wasn’t caught on CCTV at her apartment complex?? It was specifically mentioned that he WASN’T.. how did the prosecution try and explain that away?

The second someone abuses you, you must end it right away because it will only escalate from there. So man or woman, if your partner hits you leave right away.

Since the security gates were open the day, Inge, was murdered, it most likely was someone who was infatuated with her and rejected by her, grew enraged about it and killed her. I feel the police made a mistake in thinking this rage had to be someone close to her. The fact they let the drug addict go in exchange for dropping the auto-theft charge if he retracted his statement is total corruption.

Very puzzling indeed... how does one get bludgeon and stabbed 47 times while a magazine remains at their feet and the remote control stays in their hand? That's just odd as well as nothing being taken, truly a very puzzling case

Well done on the reporting of this horrific case. Living in Cape Town at the time of the murder, it was riveting and shocking and I always felt that Inge's parents had (maybe, unwittingly) steered the police towards Fred. They needed to be able to blame someone and the inept police just went with their desperation to lay it all on Fred. The police even went as far as lying about the evidence to steer the case in only one direction. There just was not enough time for him to have travelled to and from her home, killed her without getting any blood on himself and then returned, unruffled, to work. The roads were and are very busy at that time of day, it just wasn't possible. How shocking it all was, with none of the potential murders even being questioned. There was no excuse for the shoddy handling of this case. May they all find peace.

I started reading the comments to see what people thought about Fred or the possible murderer and how this case may be solved, instead I see that most comments are about how beautiful she was and her beautiful voice and how sorry they feel for her family. People are not as focused on finding justice it seems, frustrating.

Fred as the suspect is stretching it. The workers in the balcony, the high kid and the security being cut are too suspicious details to be totally brushed off

In S.A. people literally live inside prisons for protection it is so dangerous there.

The police literally tried to frame Fred because they too lazy to dig deeper into the case. Not the false shoe print match and the glass finger print lies!!!😬

LE really dropped the ball on not questioning those repair men who were right there at Inge’s apartment complex at the time of her murder!! What shoddy police work! It’s so important too for LE to make certain they handle a case right from the beginning or else it can ruin the chances of them ever finding a perp, in cases such as these. I really feel for Inge’s parents… I’m a Mama and this breaks my heart, as well.

The police really screwed up this investigation. I still believe her boyfriend did it. There are several reasons. First, he was already exhibiting controlling behavior like telling her how to dress and getting her involved in the cult-like "church" he belonged to. Second, there was no evidence of sexual assault or burglary at her apartment. What would be the motive to murder an already sleeping woman who was watching a video, the remote still in her hand? Someone who she knew was able to gain access to her apartment, and stealthily walked up behind her and murdered her. The most logical person would be her boyfriend with the "If I can't control you and if I can't have you, nobody can" attitude. Just my opinion, but boy it does make a lot of sense.

She sang beautifully. I feel terrible for her mother and father. May she rest in peace.

The extreme nature of the violence does not mean the killer must have known her. That is true *most* of the time, but not all. And especially in this case where a number of strangers would have an intense hatred and resentment of her due to political and racial tensions. She was a wealthy white woman in South Africa. There is a reason they had locked gates and walls.

Did I hear that correctly? The police offered to drop that guys car theft charge if he RETRACTED his statement in which he confessed to murdering her?? And the POLICE RETURNED THE DVD , a crucial piece of evidence, back to the video store?? That CANNOT be correct!!!

The shoe expert confirmed that the bloodmark left in the bathroom was made by Fred's shoe, but then was called by the defense as an expert witness and said that it was not a match for Fred's and possibly not even a shoe print?!? That makes no sense whatsoever.

No CCTC installed near the apartments. Most bizarre is the police handing DVD back to the shop as it had the clinching evidence of finger print

There is one thing about this crime case which really came off odd. Has it happened to anyone else ? To me this seems weird but perhaps someone who lives there can be more useful. But the time when Inga called the tile people and they showed up later on the hot day when she told them to come back later...she observed the workers and other contractors attempting to get onto her balcony and she just let them in thru the front door. It seems to me that whoever the construction workers were the illegals or whomever they had when work was finished someone knew the security gate remote was needed.but they also knew that the wires for other stuff were cut. How did they get it? The balcony. The same way they tried to get in to do the work. I'm thinking that these guys were mad as he'll they had to wait for her to get back. The other workers were doing their own things to make the building 100% or repair whatever but I believe someone got onto the balcony which was probably left unlocked or something we all forget to lock or double check but she came home walked the crew out the gate but someone stayed. It's possible someone didn't leave the house. They just hid. They figure some pretty small young girl all alone.easy target. Someone must have a sick anger for people who have more then them. I'm thinking this person hid out. Watched her change and watch her movie. Theres no sign of a struggle so this was just a sick mad person.sad she was so young . I thought about the possibility of the drug kid being the culprit since he was high but nothing was stolen. He got the couch fact right but the day hmm. Sad that no justice for this woman to this day. What a shame

She turned down someone's advances and they retaliated. Either someone that lives in the complex or the workers.

It's crazy how you can be a popular, beautiful, successful person with seemingly little issues in life and then end up brutally attacked and killed seemingly at random. Poor girl, such a tragic story, and a good reminder to always appreciate the people in your life.

I looked into Fred’s eyes (ironically in a different church) around 2008… my blood went cold. I immediately recognised him. Black, dead eyes. There’s nothing behind those lifeless eyes. Predatory is how I can best describe it

So Fred's religion forbid him, he said, from having close contact with her and yet there were at least two photos in this video of him with his arm around her. Puzzling. Everyone seems to admit the case wasn't well investigated and I can't believe they didn't bother to question the construction workers (who one presumes has hammers) since it is very believable that a suddenly smitten construction person could have committed the crime. What a shame that such a beautiful girl would meet such a violent end and that the police would do such a poor job of investigation. Reminds me of the JonBenet Ramsey case.

Inga had the voice of an Angel and was a elegant and graceful lady by the sounds of it. It is a shame that such a radiant young lady is no longer with her loved ones because of some act of atrocity and malice. God be with her and may she Rest In Peace. Thanks to the gross incompetence of the SAPS, no one will ever be able to find out who killed this girl. I don't think her boyfriend did it because he wasn't picked up by CCTV on the day of the murder. I think the murderer was someone else that was known to her or someone who had a duplicate set of keys to her apartment and a duplicate remote to her electronic gate. What's certain is that whoever killed her, will never be brought to justice, thanks largely in part to the incompetence of the SAPS. What a tragedy!

When you loose a child you do loose your soul. I had my first son when I was barely 17 we grew up together. He became my Bestest friend. He died when he was 27. He was my soulmate and my love for him will never end. His younger brother who was 17 at the time is also my soulmate. It's tortuous I can't die bcuz of my soulmate son here on earth who deserves love from me and It's so hard to live without my soulmate my first born son who is now in heaven. I wish it were true that time heals all wounds but for me it only gets worse I Miss him every second of every minute of every day. I look forward to the day we are All together again in heaven.with Our Lord. My oldest son wrapped. In my left arm and my youngest wrapped in my right arm. It was my favorite time just holding them. The entire case can be solved if 1 question can be answered. In the midst of a brutal murder investigation where evidence gathering and clarity are crucial- what prompted the police to say, hey you see that DVD cover on the table? Yeah? Maybe we should take the disk out of the player, place it back into the DVD cover and return it back to the rental shop for her, we don’t want her to incur any late fees. I don’t know if I’m being clear enough here. I feel there was clearly motive by the officer or whoever was in charge to ensure that DVD disk was removed from the player and placed into the DVD cover which contained the finger print and returned back to the rental shop because someone knew, Fred’s finger print was on it. In no other scenario would this randomly insane action have taken place. It’s mathematically impossible. That DVD was not returned back to the rental shop due to police negligence- in fact it was returned to destroy evidence of a finger print that would’ve sealed Fred’s fate.
