@@mitchelnext1 Because the trio were outside longer since they were struggling with the door, so werewolf noticed them instead of being fixated on Ryan and Dylan who’s already fortified inside, easier prey if you will. You mustn’t break in to save Dylan’s hand, basically.
@@mitchelnext1 since Emma didn't break in the cabins, it was still locked so Katelyn spent longer time getting it open which brought the werewolf to them. Because of that, Dylan doesn't get his hand bit and you don't have to chop it off to stop him from turning later on.
You can also just let him go with his infected hand and just not kill him when he turns to a werewolf, it can also save his & everyones life & hand in the end of it. There are several ways to keep everyone alive, cool game.
i know this was a few months ago but i’d really recommend watching scary game squad play it! the didn’t even know dylan could lose his hand until the end
It's crazy that so many people DIDN'T choose this option first. This is exactly what I did, and I never knew what the consequence would've been until I read the path notes afterwards. It's crazy a choice so early on can make such a big change for someone else
Ya I would've thought that breaking down the door was what would end up getting someone killed or almost killed because the door wouldnt be able to lock
@@francisdelrey Technically breaking in gives you the opportunity to get that toy Abi finds which later can be used to lure Caleb into the freezer and save Kaitlyn and Dylan. So it's all about what you do with these decisions lol
A few comments mention how not breaking in the door should've been the obvious answer, but if you actually pay attention, Kaitlyn, Abi, and Nick struggle to get in the cabin. The Devs could've just as easily made one of them die because they couldnt get in the cabin fast enough. That's what these games are all about. There is no obvious answer because you never know what your choices will lead to.
yeah maybe Nick could have died in that sequence and it totally affects the whole transformation scene with Abi and even in the cage scene with Jacob! there's alot more path-branching choices i can think of that probably hasn't made it in the game
Well now we know how to save dylan's hand now we just need a way of saving calleb without freezing him to death and keeping everyone who is not Silas and Chris Alive.
Spoilers From what I heard you basically need to get Kaitlyn infected at the junkyard through choices and a failed qte and then Caleb will need to catch Emily but Because of the werewolf blood he can sense he won't kill her. But I only saw this happen when Dylan is turned into a werewolf so idk if Dylan will in turn die if he is at the cabin.
@@hi-sn1fh SPOILERS. You can actually have Dylan be infected at the junkyard and not have Kaitlyn infected too by making the right combat choices. The result is that Dylan isn't with Kaitlyn or Emma and Abigail - again depending on choices made - at the lodge when the werewolves attack.
@@KimberPrime, he has to die. Otherwise, Travis and Laura will kill each other while Chris murders Ryan, then both Constance and Jedediah. Therefore, there's no one alive to play in chapter 10 (only Laura can kill Silas if I'm not mistaken.) To save the most characters, you have to kill Chris in order to break the curse, get Kaitlyn and Dylan infected during chapter 9 in order to save Caleb and avoid freezing him (I think you can freeze him).
@@KimberPrime Chris can die or Ryan and Laura Die. Chris can be saved by Jacob leading him into a hunter’s trap and the Kaitlyn kills Caleb which requires her to get a silver shells. Which means you have to have someone able to get into the basement to get to them. And only leaves Silas. Since Ryan and Laura died the last chapter is modified to skip that part to search for Silas because Travis isn’t a playable character.
The curator in man of Medan has a great line about how some seemingly insignificant decisions can lead to something major "but there are repercussions... there are always repercussions"
It’s pretty crazy how NOT breaking into the cabin and NOT collecting the friggin stuffed animal can result in Dylan losing his hand or not and the possible deaths of both Kaitlyn and Dylan.
In my first play through I didn’t break in, so Dylan didn’t lose his hand. And then I watched other people play and was so confused on why Dylan lost his hand everytime. Now I know why LOL
@@thedatabreaches i saw one, Vianogaming (Indonesian RU-vidr). he didnt break in but somehow he still gets Emma's phone back?? (he cuts his gameplay highlights only so idk what he did to get emma's phone back). But he still managed to save Dylan's hand, sooo i think he did some choices right. Or not cause he didnt get Dyl and Kaitlyn to go to the Junkyard though

Jeez, now it's no wonder why there's about a hundred endings in this game with various outcomes. A choice this simple determines whether Dylan gets to keep his hand or not
The dumbest thing about this scenario is that whether the door was locked or not, Ryan could still have gotten out of the cabin and tried to shoot the wolf... It's like Ryan only tries to do something if a wolf attacks other cabins, but he gives no fucks about protecting the cabin he and Dylan are in. If the door is unlocked, Ryan just watches the werewolf through the window, doesn't even tell Dylan about it, and when Dylan notices the werewolf, Ryan just tells him to hurry up with the radio and doesn't even try to distract the werewolf in the meantime, which leads to Dylan getting infected. So in the end, keeping that door locked just makes Ryan cover Dylan like he should have done in the first place lol
If you keep kick the door down at the beginning, they can hide in the cabin and the wolf’s attention is on Dylan and Ryan which is why Dylan loses his hand when he’s fixing the radio. If you don’t kick the door down, the wolf’s attention will be on the cabin and not Dylan and Ryan. The only reason Ryan went outside is because he could see the wolf. It’s pretty simple.
There is a monster on the roof, which you have no clue if guns work(spoiler they don't) and you want Ryan to step outside and just tussle. The wolf would have just jumped off the roof and attacked him. With it at the cabins it gives him a chance to prepare for impact and gives dylan more time
@@idk-ye7ur Harsh. Let's not single out Ryan, okay? When Abigail was fighting for her life against Nick, Dylan, Kaitlyn, and Ryan watched her get launched around 'n (possibly) die. 'Abi?' was all they could say 'n I don't blame them. If I was Ryan, I'm not putting myself in danger because, obviously, I don't want to die. I don't even know what I'm looking at and if I don't know what I'm looking at...how am I supposed to fight it? Also, I have the gun. If I die, Dylan is left defenseless and alone because everyone else is in the other cabin.
When I watched Jack play that part, I thought “wouldn’t that fuck up the door for when someone is gonna need it fully sealed later?” After that I completely forgot about that until this video.
remember in Until dawn there was this book that told you "this action => lead to this conciquence" (after it happened)? i wish they had it in The Quarry, cause otherwise the player doesnt even know that previous actions really affected the story, which makes some players think that your choices didnt matter as much (unless you play it again).
Although in The Quarry, sometimes when you take significant options, the game shows you "path chosen". If you are familiar with Until Dawn and the Dark Anthology, you should know your actions will affect the future.
i think this game is soooo much better than Until Dawn (consequences wise). in Until Dawn, you don't really have any huge consequences based on what conversations or actions you choose (except QTE's and Don't Move thing). in The Quarry, literally every choices you picked matter somehow in the future chapters. like oh my God this game is so good.
I agree with the consequence however when it comes to the dialogues, it not it. The game is evolving around teenagers who have different feelings for one another and yet there no difference in how you treat them with each other. That's a hard miss on the game, apart from the ending that was failed in my opinion
Another side effect is that you don't get the squeaky toy, meaning you can't put caleb in the freezer, meaning both Kaitlyn and Dylan are guaranteed dead in the end if Emma dies or gets infected (in which case she also stays on the island). And my Abi died. I wanted to ignore everything Emma said in the beginning, so I didn't break in because I thought it'd be the right choice, morally speaking. If you then happen to have both die in the kitchen at the end, you'll be asked if you want to prevent your fatal mistake by... going back to chapter 1. I got to keep Dylan's hand, but I'm still not super happy with how unrelated things are connected sometimes.
that's what i said about this game the choices do not make sense.Dark Pictures is still the standard for me bc even if a character is about to be attacked you get a last chance quick time to save them or...something
@@leslie7974 this actually isn't true! there's a way to save them without the toy, there's a scene after the scrap yard where you play as abi in the storm chamber and there's silver bullets near the fuse box! if you grab these you can save both of them without having to go back to the beginning of the game
I kind of wish Ryan could get infected here. Makes no sense why he is one of the only two that can't get infected. Abi it makes a little sense (since she dies everytime she's attacked besides the first time, which she was saved by the hunters) but Ryan can full on get attacked and nothing happened. And if he can get hurt (later in the game) he's a one shot and Chris kills him immediately.
btw both can get infected for abi i haven't found a video but i know you can get her infected early on when nick get attack by missing one of the QTS and ryan can also get infected by accepting laura to bit him so he doesn't bleed to death
@@joyboy2016 No I know Ryan can get infected that way, but it cures immediately or he dies. There's no way for him to transform. And I'm not sure she can get infected. It wouldn't make sense if she gets bit right around when Nick did.
@@heyimlate5656 oh you mean get infected then transform yea its impossible that part is scripted mostly also idk i haven't found proof for abi get bit tho still it might be true nobody's know for real lol
I mean you can save he's hand by just not chopping it off. While he turns into a werewolf he survives anyway after that and I find it easier to play only with Kaitlyn running around
yea but the point is to lessen the amount of werewolves runnin around killin ppl so thats why more ppl chose to chop his hand off. I had no idea this change would actually effect Dylan like this. good to know he can survive with his hand
I hope they make a second version where they add many more scenes and choices so they fill the plot holes. I wish to see Dylan and Ryan living happily ever after. I would pay any amount to let that happen 😭
kind of random but it’s something i realized while watching this video and it’s one of my biggest gripes for this game. and it’s the messages on the side after certain choices like “emma thinks you’re overreacting” “ryan appreciates your sacrifice” don’t add anything to the game i felt like until dawn those kinds of things actually had a bit of an impact whereas here they were kind of pointless… like maybe if you chose not to break down the door and get the bags later at the lake when they hear abi scream emma could say something like “she’s probably just overreacting” idk i feel something like that would add more character personality to the characters when you’re not playing them
If he gets infected here and you choose to keep his hand, you can 100% keep him alive at the end. In my play through I killed all Hacketts (except Travis) and killed Silas, and all campers and Travis survived and cured.
Actually there's still consequences. Cause Emma wouldn't get her phone that can help her in her scene in the Treehouse. Also Abi wouldn't get the doll/toy that can potentially save Caitlyn later
finally! everyone, that I saw erlier, who played this game, seemed to be deprived of the simplest manners ... as it turned out, being patient and well-mannered can save someone's hand or even life)
Kaitlyn, Abi and Nick will having a hard time to open the door so the werewolf notice them first. If you didn't pick up the bag, Ryan just doubt himself for seeing the ww and when Dylan getting out of where the radio is then scream so it noticed them first and warning Kaitlyn's group to go inside the cabin.
yea ikr? at first I was worried that leaving the bags and not opening the door in the beginning would get the others killed here. It makes more sense tho that they were able to open the door and get inside it just took a bit longer therefore distracting the werewolf and which allowed Dylan to do his thing without sacrificing his hand. This game is amazing and I look forward to others like it in the future
The problem is that if you don't open the house, you can't find the stuffed rabbit and in the end you can't imprison Caled in the cell ... and that doesn't lead to good things! Unless you get Abigail infected. In the kitchen this way neither she nor the wolf ends up there. Regarding Dylan's hand I think it is more correct not to cut it off and leave it infected ... better not to have it together with Abigail in the part with Caleb (infected Dylan will not follow her).
you dont have to get the toy to save kaitlyn and Dylan, there's a scene after the scrap yard where you can find silver bullets near the fuse box, you can use these as well
There is one more thing if u dont break in then kaitlyn will be unable to find a toy in abby's bag later in the lodge (considering abby died later by the hands of nick) due to which kaitlyn and dylan will die anyways in the lodge becoz she neither got toy from abyy's bag to lure caleb in the freezer with the help of the toy nor abby remain alive for her to give silver bullet so that she can shoot and kill caleb srrry... for my bad english 😊
Emma can still give them the silver bullets. But yes, I get what you're saying. I wonder if Dylan and Kait are both un infected, and abi and Emma arnt in the lodge and you never picked up the toy I wonder if that just condemns Dylan and Kait to dying
to help explain this, because the cabin is not broken into and the lock remains intact, it DELAYS Kaitlyn and her group from getting in which in turn attracts the werewolf because they are exposed for too long. We know that the door can be broken into with a simple braced push (because that's how you break in normally) but the delay catches the werewolf's attention long enough to get it off Dylan's cabin. NOW IF you did break in earlier, then the door is open to enter without delay and Kaitlyn's group can sneak in without attracting the werewolf's attention which means it stays fixated on Dylan's cabin which in turn means it will grab Dylan. Now what i dont know is if Ryan shooting the shotgun towards the cabin roof scares the werewolf in some way or if it makes a hole for Dylan to be grabbed....
Basically preventing Dylan losing his hand OR him turning into a Werewolf. I just found out what happenes if Abigail takes the stuffed animal at the beginning of the game... (WW Caleb gets locked in the Freezer) What other hidden decisions does this game have???
This was quite literally what I'd done my first time so the whole time I was thinking 'Wait, Ryan could potentially use a chainsaw? Maybe to amputate something? When does that happen?'
I was thinking about that, like leaving the bags could’ve been a good idea only because you never know if it might come in handy for whomever that ends up in there.. but the outcome is even better.
@Ponyo : do you hide in the kitchen or investigate the door where Emma & Abi were? I was lost on how Kaitlyn & Dylan died up until i read that you needed to find the bear.
If Abi and Emma are dead, then you need the toy to lure Caleb into the freezer, but otherwise they'll give Kaitlyn and Dylan silver bullets to shoot Caleb.
Don’t move is a much better mechanic but unfortunately needs a motion detection control, which only PlayStation has. Holding a button down is a good compromise that allows the game be played on Xbox and ox too so I’m okay with it
@@Foxtrot6624 Yeah, I’m not really a fan of the don’t move sections of Until Dawn. Mainly because there were times where I held the controller PERFECTLY still, and the “Don’t Move” icon still turns red and the game thinks that I moved when I never did. For example, when Josh and Sam were trying to turn the generator on(I think it was a generator), and Sam was shining the flashlight on it, the “Don’t Move” icon keeps turning red, and Sam keeps moving the flashlight away from the generator, even though I was not moving. There was even one play through I did where Sam died at the last chapter even though I didn’t move at all Also, There was a Don’t Move segment with Chris and the flamethrower guy where the icon turned red there too, and Chris steps on a twig. Did I move a muscle? No, but the game says I did, and it made me think I got the flamethrower guy killed until I found out he dies no matter what.
@@fentina I've never seen a playthrough where after he was bitten there's a choice to not amputate him, I mean it all ended up in making choosing between the gun and the chainsaw, and there's not a countdown as I remember. Would be so interesting to see Ryan just stand there lol
I still question thw game because i wonder if theres a secret way to save kaylee but idk cuz it shows her possiblity inside ending where it shows characters possibilities if they are alive or dead.
So let me get this straight not breaking and entering made it so they had trouble opening the door, which means the monster was focused more on them, and less on Dylan hand
This is just show that IF you don't break into the cabin you will save Dylan's hand but you lose something in the process. Nothing to do with camp party, They're still going to be party anyways.
So would I rather have a teddy bear which I can use to distract the werewolf in the final showdown to lock them in the freezer or keep someone's hand intact? *Teddy bear it is.*
they could've killed ryan there when you fail the first qte and cause a huge change to the hackett house chapters since he won't be with Laura anymore but game still great none the less
they didnt even add seperate interactions to if they got attacked, they just roll out the scene like if they didnt.. ryan calmly talking about it running away like in the scene where dylan lost his hand, literally seconds after he almost got killed by a warewolf. they put 0 effort into adding different interactions based on choices
I did break in in my first playthrough because I thought I might be able to hide in there or something. It only hit me in another playthrough that it meant I sacrificed Dylan‘s hand FOR NOTHING.
Damn bro- that was real sad when Dylan said, "Oof- ow, I like my ideas" Little did he know that saved him his hand.. ---- Also, I'd just like to point out... Dylan saved Ryan's ass by sounding that signal. But Ryan's only plan was to go and protect the other cabin! He never protected Dylan.
well im pretty sure he wasnt trying to protect dylan cuz dylan would already be safe cuz hes inside while the werewolf was attacking ryan and the others but ryan still protected him tho cuz dylan didnt get attacked
You'll never get a chance to get them if you don't break in. It also means you'll have to get Kaitlin bitten or kill Caleb if you want her to survive (pretty sure Dylan dies if he doesn't get bitten here).
@@WatsonAndDaughter He only dies if you have nothing to kill or distract Caleb with, so it's probably safer to break in because then you'll have something you can use to lure Caleb into the freezer.
