I love how this book really highlighted the fact that the main conflict of the series has been Jude and Madoc. Like, yeah, Cardan was awful in book one, but really, Jude's true opponents have been Madoc and herself the entire time. I love it.

Taryn really came threw in this book. Also I was really wanting a POV from Cardan. I’m hoping we might get a novella with some of his narrating.

I love it with all of the sudden character shifts and whatsoever. I liked it when Taryn kind of redeemed herself and how Cardan suddenly became so sweet and the lesser drama AND the way too perfect ending mostly because in the first two books, Jude was always suffering and it actually kind of hurt to read so even though the third book wasn't as cutthroat as the first two books, I still loved it because at least Jude is being loved this time. Though I think the conflict with Madoc was too easily resolved, like, I expected a lot of bloodshed but it does not happen, I still love it so much.

I wish instead of keeping Jude and Cardan apart Holly had replaced the snake thing with a cut-throat court introgue part where Madoc, Jude and Cardan vie for the love of the Folk and we saw Cardan and Jude be their awesome scheming selves but this time working together - and showing that once they work together with full trust, they'd be a force of nature

I'm actually a tiny bit disappointed in this book. I feel like the ending is just too perfect and too happy. Also the whole thing about Cardan turning into a serpent was kinda out of line with the whole story and especially when Jude killed the serpent and Cardan just walked out of its corpse i was like "isn't this way too easy?" For the entire first half of the book I was really expecting Madoc and Cardan to duel and was looking forward to that but that never happened :/ I love the little moments shared by Cardan and Jude throughout the series and I think they make a great couple.

ria I agree with this. Also how Taryn never truly apologized for betraying her sister twice and apparently she did what she did to Locke but OFF PAGE. The book was really underwhelming and rushed, there were some parts that I enjoyed, but it felt almost incomplete... I’m wondering if Holly Black was in a rush or something??

I definitely think a book 4 will destroy the ending. Taryn hasn't given birth, the ghost keeps staring at Taryn with no explanation, plus Oak for sure needs to get married.

I think so too, I feel like the entire book was building up towards the confrontation between Madoc, Jude & Cardan and than it was over in like a second. I also thought that it was really weird that Cardan turnes into a snake, it served NO purpose at all. My first (or maybe second) thought after that happening was that he will probably come out of the snake in the end, naked and covered in blood. And suprise, suprise that is exactly what happened. While in the entire three books there where sooo many unexpected moments the endig was really predictable. I mean I loved the entire series but the ending was just underwhelming... (Sorry for the spelling mistakes)

I loved this book! There were so many great characters that you could fall in love with and the plot of the trilogy was so gripping. The relationships Jude had with her family and Cardan were the highlights of this book for me, but there was plenty of action aswell. However I felt that the second half of the book was almost rushed and so the conclusion of the story happened so quickly- but maybe that was because I loved it so much I didn't want it to end?

I loved the review! Honestly I just think that Cardan didn't really give Jude a loophole. He was the only one that knew she was the queen so she couldn't really pardon herself. I think he actually tells her that in the second book. When she tells him he can't do this to her because she is the queen and he tells her that no one is going to believe that.. I believed he was planning to trick her until the very end of the book.
@jaee1507
@jaee1507 4 года назад
Cardan actually sent letters to Jude begging her to come back. The letters are only available in the B&N copies of the Queen of Nothing so I understand if you thought that (I would've had too if it wasn't for the letters). If you haven't read the letters until now though, there are pictures of them published online. Just sharing.

I agree with so many of your thoughts! I think you did a great job talking about how Jude has a blind spot when it comes to understanding Cardan and when it comes to trusting people. I think that, when she toasts to “family” at the very end, it really encapsulates what she eventually came to value.

Am I the only one that feels like there could be another book? With cardan and Jude still in but with oak probably getting to be king and I also feel like there could be a story with the Princess at the end that Jude commanded to be released (I forgot her name) but when she smiled Jude mentioned that her teeth were sharp and maybe madoc and the others kept her restrained for the fear of what she could do. Idk I'm horrible at explaining things but I really don't want it end. Like at all. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. No pun intended.

Who else would have loved reading from Cardan’s POV? I absolutely loved Queen of Nothing, but have mixed emotions about Jude’s and Cardan’s relationship. First off, Jude is so young compared to Cardan. Why does she settle on him as a first boyfriend-lover-husband? I wish Holly Black gave her more romantic options because it would have been wonderful for her to choose Cardan. Second I would have really loved to see more of a development of their relationship because it felt rushed from hate-fear alliance to lovey doves happy marriage. Like what????? It honestly feels like the publishers rushed Holly Black to get out the book sooner, therefore a lot was cut. I would have rather waited longer for the book because her writing is extraordinary. I still gave the book 5/5 stars on Goodsreads because I absolutely love the characters and story. Really wish it would continue.

Honestly in my opinion this book saved the rest of the series. The other books were boring and the relationships were so toxic. But in this book it was actually quite entertaining and everyone was finally getting along. Tho I found the cardan snake part wayyy to simple. The ending was kinda predictable obviously he was gonna turn back into fae but the way it happened was so anticlimactic cuz it was SO DAMN OBVIOUS.

Just listening to your review I am more confused than ever why people even like this series. I read the first 30 pages of The Cruel Prince and I am disgusted that Jude has lived in the fiary world for several years and doesn't have a single friend, Even someone who is risking thei rlife by sending her secret notes or something. It does not make any sense. You also can't give the excuse, "Well all fairies look down on humans," because the prince of the fairies and her get in a relationship. At some point, if the story worked, someone would've been fond of her. I even thought one character didn't mind her so much but in the very next chapter that same character publicy was nasty to her for being human. It was one of the famel fairies, but again it doesn't matter if the big dogs are like that, someone would've been fond of her. Even if they're killed two chapters later or something. I do not get why authors expect ME to care about their characters if no one else in the story does early on. (Luckily there are plenty of books where authors understand you have to give readers to go on, but here's Leigh BArdugo and Holly Black most talked about YA books and they gaive zero reason to be invested in their characters. I get that many YA readers might not care about that but come on, I'm reading The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell, it doesn't have that problem, or Warcross by Marie Lu, or even Harry Potter, sure the Dursleys are mean to him but the difference is by the time you see that, you've already met Dumbledore, Hagrid, and McGonagell, all who have concern for Harry's well-being.) But Jude, no one gives a crap about her, but Holly Black expects me to? No thanks.

I personally thought that it would be better off without a battle scene. First because it would be tiring to go through with it. second is because how little there is left to do with the 300 pages we were to the end of the book. Third because it might feel rushed, the same reason as my second. But looking at how weak the book ended, I think there should’ve been a battle. Maybe just to spark a few action here and there

i never hated taryn tbh because i always saw how someone could have turned into her and i always empathized with her "assimilating," for lack of a better word, into the culture of Faerie. i think most people in the twins' situation would probably follow taryn's path instead of jude's, so it's so wild to see people bashing her. like that's ur reflection. lmao anyway QoN was my favorite book in the series because the entire time people were being cutthroat i was like....does anyone here smoke weed not actually all my money goes to tuition

@@katharinebui6929 Perfect way to describe it. I thought the first book was intriguing and I adore hate to love relationships, but the third book was a tad disappointing. It was an enjoyable quick read that played to my shippers heart, but I almost wished she wouldve just doubled down on the fan fiction relationship and given me more of the swoony fairy mortal romance if she was gonna end like that anyway. I did really love the Jude and Madoc moments. Jude and Carden both had very interesting family dynamics and I wouldve liked to have more done with that. I loved the strategic maneuvering between father and daughter and I wish there were battles. I wish there was more about nicasia and orlaugh. And I hated Locke, but was I the only one who though his off screen death was unsatisfying?
