Not really a spoiler more like a reminder because I think you forgot about this when you were talking about the story. You say that the king didn't do anything against the infection, but the Dung Defender tells you that "Our King tried in his own way. A cruel means it was... And still, eventually, we were brought low." (it's a line of dialogue you've already seen in a previous episode).

Without spoiling too much, the entrance to the rest of Fog Canyon (and Cornifer) *is* in Fungal Wastes, just a different region of Fungal Wastes than the one where you entered Queen’s Gardens. My hint is it’s a region of Fungal Wastes with lots of acid pools :)
