This is my favorite movie of all time. I can't put my finger on why but it doesn't matter. Thank you for filming this and letting all of us see what it looks like now. All the main actors are gone and time seems to be flying by these days. I watch this movie often and always will. Thanks again for posting this. It was a treat!

Ron, thanks very much for this video. I just watched the movie today for the first time, and so it was fresh in my mind. I can see John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara walking across that little bridge to his house. Very sad that during that time (1951) all of those fine actors were young and healthy, full of energy, but now gone. They're all asleep, now waiting on the resurrection to a paradise earth where they will never get sick or die again!
It's a sad shame about the cottage and the owner not wanting to restore it. My ancestors are from Mayo and it's been on my bucket list since I was a child. Maybe someday, God willing. Thanks for the tour you did a good job, you are a fan of the movie and it made all the difference.

Absolutely Great video. Big Quiet Man fan. Seen the film countless times and been down in Cong and surrounds. Never seen hall these sites. Need to get back down from Belfast. My compliments on taking the time and energy to make this.
By the look of it.. This station is bereft of rails - Southern Eire had it's own version of Dr Beeching and these were cut back. I don't think that there is any heritage railways there.

Hi Walter, When I went to the museum in Cong I purchased "The Complete Tour Guide to The Quiet Man Locations" by Lisa Collins. Here is the link: the-quiet-man-museum.myshopify.com/collections. I checked the web site and they appear to be sold out. Perhaps you can contact the museum and ask when they will be restocked. It was a very helpful guide. There is a full map inside the booklet as well as driving directions. Good Luck.
I was there in 2012. Didn't see the statue. Was there on a religious pilgrimage but the bus driver stopped when he heard I knew alot about the movie. When I saw the abbey I ran down the street and the others followed me. Saw Rev Playfair house and Cohans and where fight was near the stream. Thanks for the effort and beautiful job. Really great to see. We didn't go all those places. Loved the area where horse race was.
I absolutely loved Maureen o,hara and when I was in cong a few years ago when I stood beside her statue with the duke I put my hand on her leg ( sacrilege I know) and asked my wife to take a photo but she wouldn't do it and my arms aren't long enough to take a selfie so alas my flirting was to no avail
Great upload 🙏. but as far as I know the thunder and lighting scene with Sean and Mary Cate was filmed was in fact in Hollywood and not in Ireland . Having said that I liked the music at around 5 min's 👍👍👍😆
Actually the inside pub scenes were filmed in California. I hope I got the outside though. We had lunch in Cohans but it's more of a gastro pub and looks nothing like the movie.
Hi, I liked your video. Thanks. Could you please advise me... I’m planning a motorcycle tour of Ireland at the end of May. Being a fan of both “The Quiet Man” and John Wayne, I want to stop off at Cong when I leave Galway en route to my next stop. How long should I spend in Cong in order to satisfy myself with all I need to see? Would I need to stay overnight there? Appreciating your guidance. Best regards
Hi Daniele, I'm glad to enjoyed it. You can see everything in Cong in one day but if you want to see everything in the video I would reccomend staying at least one night. The locations are spread out. I also recommend going to the museum in Cong and buy a guide to the locations. That's how we found everything.

@@Travel-with-Ron he uses that name for a boat in "Donavans Reef with Lee Martin". Me and dad collected John Wayne movies huge fan of Wayne's and Wesrerns in general.
You bring up a very good point. The building next to the stream was an old wooden structure and the only stone remains was the building I entered. Who knows, you may be correct. There was tour guide, just me trespassing. Lol. Thanks for viewing.
The picture of the stream and the cottage, from Wayne's point of view off the bridge, I think is either a different angle or the other side of the house, because O'Hara runs through, at least by your video a different area. Also, the reverend (played by Shields) and his wife ride their bikes through a path and then into the area through stone "walls" on each side and pull up to Wayne with paint in his hand. There are way different angles with different backgrounds (somewhat) and the cottage is way larger in the movie. What they do, sometimes is take a far away shot and the close up is built on the spot and either taken down or just left there. I could be wrong, but I'm watching the movie right now (lol). God Bless. P.S. In your video tour, shows why things are in disrepair. Hardly anyone there and it takes money to run these things and unless a wealthy benefactor leaves a trust (and it's not a church or huge bridge like the london bridge) then these things, unfortunately, fall by the way side on the opera generation (that's mine (lol), I have a copyright). Opera, meaning all these people day me, me, me, me and I, I, I, I etc....
What... not even one pub on your tour. You can't be Irish. But thanks for the video, it's my favorite non-western John Wayne movie. I gave you a like, but not going to the pub having a beer with us...I can only give you 4-out-of-5 stars. Sorry.
Haha, I actually did go to Cohans and Danahers but since Cohans wasn't actually a pub at the time of filming I didn't make it part of my video. Danahers was quite nice.
