@@IslamCritiqued dear women of the world the trinity is very easy to understand. God is one. Remember how God was a spirit standing over the waters in genesis was a holy spirit then he became mary son thus a son then it is prophecy that Jesus will have a wedding and married which means he will become a dad because what happens when you get married you have children. So thus Jesus who used to be a spirit who was holy is a holy spirit then he became a son then he is said to get married in the future which makes him a father. So thus God which just creator is one and same person.

+Islam Critiqued Colin, read this. I have copied this from Nabeel Qureshi's book *No God But One : Allah or Jesus?* *“THE TRINITY AND TAWHID IN THE QURAN* Just as the Bible is the reason Christians believe in the Trinity, the Quran is the reason Muslims deny it. The clearest rejection of the Trinity in the Quran is 4.171. After denying the deity of Jesus, it says: “Do not say ‘three.’ (It would be) better for you (if you) stop. Only Allah is God. One.” But when we study the Quran more carefully, it appears the Quran is not actually denying the Trinity but rather polytheism, that Jesus is a second deity alongside God. For example, after denying that Jesus is God, 5.73 says, “Certainly they are infidels who say, ‘truly, God is the third (of) three.’ There is no god but one God.” If the Quran envisions the Trinity as three gods, with Allah as one and Jesus as the second, who is the third? Apparently it is Mary, as is most clear in 5.116, where Allah says to Jesus: “Did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as two gods in addition to Allah’?” So the trinity that the Quran denies is actually tritheism, three gods: Allah, Jesus, and Mary. At this point, some Christians argue the Quran gets the Trinity wrong, and this disproves the Quran. Muslims often argue in response that there very well may have been Christians that worshiped Mary, Jesus, and God as a trinity, and that the verses of the Quran are directed toward them. I choose to avoid this discussion, emphasizing instead that the Quran effectively denies polytheism, three gods, not the concept of a triune God as Christianity has traditionally taught. Throughout the rest of the Quran, Allah regularly says that there is only one God (e.g., 16.51; 47.19; 112.1), but always as a rejection of polytheism. The Quran never rejects the possibility of one God subsisting in three persons. The omission is noteworthy, as this had been the orthodox doctrine of Christianity for centuries before Muhammad and the advent of the Qur'an.” Let me know, what do you think about this.
@IslamCritiqued
@IslamCritiqued 6 лет назад
If is very easy to take that route- the author of the Quran had no idea what he was talking about and that he wasn't really denying the Trinity. Similar to Surah 9:30, the Jews call Ezra the son of God? Yeah, like...what Jews? Exactly, none. But I took the "harder" road here, benefit of the doubt, assuming there was such a sect of "Christians". And even taking this road, it's clear Muslims can't use the Quran to argue against the trinity.

Good video brother! You are 100% right when you say that the Quran is not sophisticated enough to deal with the concept of the Trinity. Muslims have no clue how in depth we can go on the deity of Christ. As I always like to say, we don't even need the New Testament to prove that Jesus is God. Some of the strongest attestations of His deity are actually found in the Old Testament. We don't believe in the Trinity because we want to, we believe it because if we believe all of Scripture, the Biblical evidence leaves us no choice!

Yeah, the Quran is over there talking about some alleged Byzantine sect of illiterate theologians with their clay birds and Arabic Infancy Gospel, meanwhile...there's mainstream Christian Trinitarian Monotheism completely unphased by any argument the Quran makes.

Trying to have his cake and eat it. 2. Yes Muhammad got it wrong, just like he did not understand what the spirit of God means either nor the term Messiah. The explanations given in your links are modern mental gymnastics to attempt to excuse the Quran's obvious mistake (since Muhammad did not understand what the spirit of God is, a.k.a. the Holy Spirit, he guessed Mary had to be the other part of the Trinity, assuming God cannot be said to have a son without literal intercourse with a female), just like when accusing the Jews of worshipping Ezra (yet another obvious mistake Muslims have to twist themselves into pretzels to attempt to excuse somehow, or denying the crucifiction which is widely accepted as historical fact and thus puts the Quran alongside flat earthers and holocaust deniers)...

The claim that Jesus made clay bird, spoke in the cradle, etc. come from Thomas’ [Gnostic] Infancy Gospel. Gnostics don’t believe in a Trinity (rather they have a number of weird associations between different divine beings). The fact that Muhammad connected the Trinity with Gnostics means he had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.

Shema Echad Ooh, we are angry, aren’t we? First, I don’t worship any idols. Second, if you do say the Shema every day, have you made an attempt to understand what it means to say that the Lord is one in virtue of Gen. 19:24? Or have you thought about why David in Psalm 110 calls whom you believe to be Solomon “Lord” and names Him “priest forever according to the Order of Melchizedek”? To say nothing of the vision of Daniel, or the example of Jonah, or the declaration of Job that he would see the Lord in the flesh (Job 19:23-7). Instead of being angry at me, pray so that you may understand what you call your own Scriptures.

Shema Echad David refers to himself as “Lord” in Psalm 110 (btw, the pointing which renders the word “adoni” is present only in the Masoretic text and is not present in the one text found in the Dead Sea Scrolls)? If so, is David priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek? Or do you follow the Muslim theory of hurling insults and invective whenever you can’t make an argument?

@Shema Echad I've never been a polytheist, nor has a single creed or teaching of my Church ever been to believe in more than one God. So, thanks, but no. Also, you're the one playing semantics - you're the one glibly assuming that 'one God' necessarily means 'that one God is x, y, z.' Namely, you think unipersonality is all that's possible for God, whereas 'one God' only means 'one, not two, not three Gods.' It doesn't define God - God Himself does. God reveals what God is.
@AveChristusRex

@Shema Echad And I hope you know that Shema Yisrael, yahweh eloheinu yahweh echad means, "Hear O Israel! The Lord is our God; the Lord is one." It doesn't mean, "God is unpersonal specifically." In Hebrew, "Yahweh eloheinu, yahweh echad" is teaching monotheism, not unitarianism specifically. Just as, "The Lord will be one, and his name one" means "all shall acknowledge only one God."

@Shema Echad Mono - Greek prefix meaning one. Theos - Greek for God. Monotheist - a believer in one God. Nothing about 'now, this God is unipersonal and them Nicaeans be polytheist.' So no. Again, stop inventing what I believe. If I believed in more than one God, I would say, 'I believe in more than one God.' Like a Mormon or something. But I don't. You're free to fantasize about the world in which I do, but that's pretty pointless.

@Shema Echad Shema Echad "Yes, and you believe in God the father, God the son, God the holy spirit. You're not going to fool God when that day comes anyway." God the Son no more implies a variation of Gods than does "God the Father." And, "No trinity before Constantinople 381 AD" is patently false. Want to see quotes of much earlier explanations of the Trinity? You do realize Nicaea was convened to combat a novel heresy no one espoused before Arius, and that that was the whole point??

Thanks for another great video. We are now approaching Christmas and I am enjoying some heated discussions with Muslims who celebrate Christmas, apparently because they also love Jesus. I point out that it is Christmas, not Jesusmas, we are celebrating the nativity of Christ The Saviour, who just happens to be Jesus, we are not celebrating the nativity of Jesus the prophet. Also throw in the fact that Christ warned about false prophets, such as Mohammed, and you will soon find yourself in the company of a very irritated Muslim. This irritation can be soothed or increased by telling Muslims that they are very welcome to celebrate Christmas, and then add the argument that by celebrating Christmas they are accepting that Mohammed was a false prophet.

If you have them dead to rights and they can't argue THEIR POINT any further, they pick some nonsensical factor and just hammer that point. It's hilarious.

Shema Echad bruh...Genesis 1:26: “Then God said, ‘Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.” Literally a hint of the Trinity is in the FIRST chapter of Genesis. You clearly haven’t read the Bible, and stop with your childish “polytheist” trash. The Bible wasn’t written to show God is a Triune God, because the point of the Bible is to show the human story of creation, the fall, redemption, and salvation. It’s the story of God and his chosen people, not the sole focus on Him being Triune in Being. Also, the Son has always existed, evidenced by Him being Eternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. If you can’t understand this, then it’s not the Theology that has the issues, it’s your utter failure to comprehend Eternity. If you and a mirror instantly appear next to each other, who appears first? You, or the reflection? Is the mirror image you? Yes, but is the mirror image you? No! The Son is God, but not the Father. The Father is God, but not the Son. Also, cut the bull crap about accusing people of mental gymnastics, these concepts are easily graspable, yet a divine mystery as who can fully comprehend God but God alone?

My Christian friends, if anyone says 1+1+1=3 so trinity is false, then tell them this: Let 1 God be x Let 1 person within God be y x+x+x=3x makes 3 Gods which is what you think we Christians believe. Our belief is simple y+y+y=x 3y=x 3 persons in one God. Jewish and Islamic view of God is x=y God is one in person and one in number. If you remove 1 person out of it, your God into zero. So removing a person from God isn’t possible. Thus splitting the person within God in trinity is also not possible. All the three person are equal in divinity, power and ability. Hope you understand that Maths won’t prove Trinity false

During first centuries the Christians had to fight against groups that denyed Christ's humanity. The disputing of the divine nature of God happened only in the late 3rd century by Arius. Jehovah's Witnesses are so brainwashed with their fake "Bibles" that changed many verses in order to deny important doctrines. Plus the cherry picking... Like for the 140 000 people reigning in heaven with Christ? Yeah right... The doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity goes long before Arius and the Council of Nicea. Members of the Watchtower are so deluded. This might be a too weak description.

He says Father gave him His glory and authority to resurrect us and you know, only God can resurrect us. If Jesus, as Eternal Son who inherited everything from the Eternal Father has the authority to resurrect us, Jesus is God. Read this as many times as you need, pray for the Holy Spirit to help you understand it.

How do we reconcile this passage along with other passages such as Matthew 24:36-“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone,” with the theology of the Trinity? Moreso, how do we answer objections to his equality to the Father (in divinity) within the LDS community and his actual divinity to groups just as the JWs based on these verses and others like it that appear to seperate the two person’s authority quite drastically. In John 14:28, Jesus says, “The Father is greater than I.” For many, this statement seems obvious: Jesus is not God. But is this really what our Lord was saying? In Catholic theology, this text can be understood in two ways. First, being “greater” than another does not have to mean one is essentially different from the other, as when we say a man is essentially distinct from an animal. Greatness can refer to one person functioning in a greater way quantitatively, qualitatively, or even relationally in comparison to another without there being an essential distinction. For example, Matthew 11:11 tells us there has never “risen among [men] a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” John is not something other than human because he is said to be greater than certain other people. All human beings share the same nature; therefore, they are absolutely equal in dignity. Similarly, the Father can be said to be greater than the Son pertaining to their relation within the inner life of God, but not with respect to their shared nature as being fully and equally God. The Father alone is the first principle of life in the Godhead; thus, the Catechism of the Catholic Church can say, in paragraph 246: “Everything that belongs to the Father, except being Father, the Son has also eternally from the Father, from whom he is eternally born . . .” (emphasis added). In this sense, the Father can be said to be greater than the Son relationally, while they are absolutely equal with regard to their essence as God. Another-and perhaps simpler-way one can legitimately interpret this text is to point out that John 14:28 seems to be emphasizing the humanity of Christ. Thus, because Jesus is fully man, it would be appropriate to say the Father would be greater than the Son. The entire verse reads: “You heard me say to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.” Jesus was emphasizing here and in previous verses his impending death, resurrection, and departure from the apostles. This would apply to his humanity most particularly. Thus, the same Jesus who can say, “I and the Father are one” in John 10:30-as God-can say, “The Father is greater than I” in John 14:28-as man. WHY DID JESUS HIDE HIS GLORY? Glorify the Father Jesus hid his glory when he became a man in order to show his Father’s glory. “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18). When Old Testament believers witnessed an appearance of Christ, they were often fearful for their lives. They knew that sinful man could not look upon God and live. The glory of God was also the judgment of God; the natural person who saw it died. When Moses spent forty days alone with God on Mount Sinai, it was necessary to cover his face when he came down because it reflected the glory of God. The people could not look upon God and live. When John was on the Isle of Patmos, he too had a vision of Christ. When John saw Jesus in the full glory that was his from the beginning, John wrote, “And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead” (Rev. 1:17). When Paul had a similar vision of Christ, he was blinded with light from heaven (Acts 9:3-9). Later he wrote of being “caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter” (2 Cor. 12:4). When Isaiah saw the Lord in the temple, he cried out, “Woe is me…” (Isa. 6:1-8).If Jesus had not veiled his preincarnate glory he could not have accomplished what he came to earth to do. It was necessary for Christ to hide his glory temporarily as he sought to save the souls of men. After the work of atonement was done, he could pray, “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5). Limitations of Humanity As a result of the incarnation, Jesus became the God-man. He was at all times both God and man as he lived on earth. When Jesus became flesh, he voluntarily subjected himself to its limitations Be. fore his birth, heaven was his throne. Now in the flesh, Jesus was limited to the distance that a man could walk on the paths of Galilee. The Son of God who created water voluntarily lived in a body that got thirsty. Jesus was born into this world as other humans (Luke 2:120), even though his conception was supernatural. As a child he developed as every human must develop. Jesus grew in mental, physical, spiritual, and social areas of life (Luke 2:52). He had the essential elements of human nature. He was body (Heb. 10:5), soul (John 12:27), and spirit (Mark 2:8). Jesus became hungry when he did not eat (Matt. 4:2). He became tired and asked the woman at the well for water to drink (John 4:6). Throughout his life on earth, Jesus was just as human as any one of us, subject to the same emotional experiences of sorrow, pain, and hurt which any man experiences.The willingness of Jesus to limit himself to becoming a man gives us confidence that he understands the affairs of our lives. “For we have not an high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:15). Because he has experientially known the frustrations of humanity, we have a “God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3) upon whom we can depend. While those who deny his deity believe they are honoring Jesus Christ in calling him a great man, the Bible says he emptied himself voluntarily by accepting the limitations of humanity. Yet at all times he remained God.He surrendered the independent use of some attributes. Self-emptying took place also by the voluntary choice not to use certain of his attributes. Power of the Holy Spirit Perhaps the best expression of omnipotence is that of the miracles of God. Even though Jesus was known as a miracle worker, he performed those miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 12:28). He voluntarily laid aside his power to do them and relied on the Holy Spirit or the Father. On various occasions he made it clearly known he was doing the work of his Father. “Then answered Jesus, and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (John 5:19). During his earthly life and ministry, Jesus was omniscient, but did not know the time of the second coming. He was omnipresent, but when he became flesh, he limited himself to being in one place at one time. He was omnipotent, yet he prayed to God to perform the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Jesus had not lost these attributes of God, but rather, in the process of emptying himself, he chose not to use his relative attributes.

If the Quran is really divine as they say it is by definition theos! Even if it isnt ho theos. They say almost same things about the Quran that we do about the Son! The Quran is God's word and from God. We say this about Jesus. It is divine and eternal. We say this about Jesus. For some reason it is shirk for us to say this about the person Jesus. But it's not for them to say this about some ridiculous 7th century book.

Just one comment on the Didache. The part Colin quoted about pouring water on the head 3 times is the exception for the Didache. The norm was still full body emersion and unlike most groups today they were keen that living or running water was preferable. Note also that the Gospel according to Matthew has the same baptismal order to baptise in the One Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Justin Martyr and Irenaeus teach the consubstantiality of the Father and Son. Irenaeus in The Apostolic Preaching. Justin Martyr says God's essence cant be split apart and then uses the example of one flame igniting another flame to illustrate how the Father and Son can have the same essence without dividing that essence. But I don't think you need to go beyond preschool math or contradict preschool math for the Trinity. How many uncaused causes: 1 the Father. How many with the divine nature? 1,2,3. So 3. How many divine natures? 1 I hate to nitpick but we should not say HE is three in one. That implies modalism. I know you are not a modalist. I am just saying that we should avoid modalistic language especially when arguing with unitarians. Unitarians often confuse Trinitarianism with modalism and usually use arguements that apply to modalism and not Trinitarianism. We can however say that God is three in one. But really the union of nature, union of will and the inter-Trinitarian causal structure I think are enough to make the Trinitarian position clear and deflect nearly every modern criticism as irrelevant. Infact I dont think the modern "logical problem of the trinity" applies to the Cappadocian doctrine of the Trinity. It's a difficulty for the thomistic version of the trinity. As for these supposed byzantine rite Christians. They are strange. I am a byzantine rite Christian and have never heard of any such thing outside of Islamic sources. Byzantine rite Christians have been the majority for most of christianity and you'll never come across such bizarre beliefs outside of our catalogs of heresies. I am ashamed that Muhammad's simple minded nonsense took so many people from my church. I really hope it was conversion by the sword and the fall of Constantinople and not because Christian's were actually convinced. Because the more I look into Quran and hadith the barbaric stupidity of Islam becomes more and more obvious.

@@IslamCritiqued Universally the christian theologians say that The Father Son and Spirit are united in ways that are beyond our comprehension. This video is good for showing how you can have multiplicity and union in ways that are beyond our ordinary experience. It is good for that. I have come across this illustration from higher dimensions before. It is a good one. All I am saying is that we don't even need to get into higher math for the explicit and specific assertions of the Trinitarian theologians. Unity of essence will and activities. That is easy. When the theologians say the Trinity is united in ways we can't understand. This works as a good illustration.

@@IslamCritiqued Wait when the theologians talk about perichoresis, I am not sure how that can be modeled without non well founded set theory. While any such thing would be a model, it seems we need esoteric and highly abstract math to model perichoresis. Also you can make toy mathematical models using non well founded set theory to show that the Cappodoccian Trinity is logically consistent with relative identity models of the Trinity and modern evangelical social Trinitarianism And again these are just toy models, God is not a set as the models i have in mind would imply.

I'd love to see those mysterious Trinitarian scriptures you found. In the meantime let me add a little info to the topic as well. Please do enjoy. More than two billion people profess to be Christian. Most belong to churches that teach the Trinity-the doctrine that the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit together form one God. How did the Trinity become an official doctrine? More important, is this teaching in harmony with the Bible? THE Bible was completed in the first century C.E. Teachings that led to the development of the Trinity began to be officially formulated in 325 C.E.-more than two centuries later-at a council in the city of Nicaea in Asia Minor, now Iznik, Turkey. According to the New Catholic Encyclopedia, the creed attributed to the Council of Nicaea set out the first official definition of ‘Christian orthodoxy,’ including the definition of God and Christ. Why, though, was it deemed necessary to define God and Christ centuries after the Bible was completed? Is the Bible unclear on these important topics? IS JESUS GOD? When Constantine became sole ruler of the Roman Empire, professed Christians were divided over the relationship between God and Christ. Was Jesus God? Or was he created by God? To settle the matter, Constantine summoned church leaders to Nicaea, not because he sought religious truth, but because he did not want religion to divide his empire. “To us there is but one God, the Father.”-1 Corinthians 8:6, King James Version Constantine asked the bishops, who may have numbered into the hundreds, to come to a unanimous accord, but his request was in vain. He then proposed that the council adopt the ambiguous notion that Jesus was “of one substance” (homoousios) with the Father. This unbiblical Greek philosophical term laid the foundation for the Trinity doctrine as later set forth in the church creeds. Indeed, by the end of the fourth century, the Trinity had essentially taken the form it has today, including the so-called third part of the godhead, the holy spirit. WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? Jesus said that “the true worshipers will worship the Father with . . . truth.” (John 4:23) That truth has been recorded in the Bible. (John 17:17) Does the Bible teach that the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit are three persons in one God? For one thing, the Bible does not mention the word “Trinity.” For another, Jesus never claimed to be equal to God. Instead, Jesus worshipped God. (Luke 22:41-44) A third line of evidence concerns Jesus’ relationship with his followers. Even after he was raised from the dead to the spirit realm, Jesus called his followers “my brothers.” (Matthew 28:10) Were they brothers of Almighty God? Of course not! But through their faith in Christ-God’s preeminent Son-they too became sons of the one Father. (Galatians 3:26) Compare some additional scriptures with the following statement from the creed attributed to the Council of Nicaea. What the Nicene Creed says: “We believe . . . in one Lord Jesus Christ . . . that is of the substance of the Father, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God.” What the Bible says: “My Father is greater than I [Jesus].”-John 14:28. “I [Jesus] ascend unto my Father, and your Father, and to my God, and your God.”-John 20:17. “To us there is but one God, the Father.”-1 Corinthians 8:6. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”-1 Peter 1:3. “These things saith the Amen [Jesus], . . . the beginning of the creation of God.”-Revelation 3:14. “Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at God’s right hand. ‘Look! I can see heaven thrown open,’ he said, ‘and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.’”-Acts 7:55, 56, The New Jerusalem Bible. What did this vision reveal? Filled with God’s active force, Stephen saw Jesus “standing at God’s right hand.” Clearly, then, Jesus did not become God again after his resurrection to heaven but, rather, a distinct spiritual being. There is no mention of a third person next to God in this account. Despite attempts to find passages of Scripture to support the Trinity dogma, Dominican priest Marie-Émile Boismard wrote in his book À l’aube du christianisme-La naissance des dogmes (At the Dawn of Christianity-The Birth of Dogmas): “The statement that there are three persons in the one God . . . cannot be read anywhere in the New Testament.” The dogma that Constantine championed was intended to put an end to dissensions within the fourth-century Church. However, it actually raised another issue: Was Mary, the woman who bore Jesus, “the Mother of God”? QUICK FACTS: “The Nicene Creed is actually not the product of the First Council of Nicea (325) . . . but of the First Council of Constantinople (381),” says The New Westminster Dictionary of Church History. “The Council of Nicea in 325 stated the crucial formula for [the yet future Trinity] doctrine in its confession that the Son is ‘of the same substance . . . as the Father.’”-Encyclopædia Britannica. “The Christian Bible, including the New Testament, has no trinitarian statements or speculations concerning a trinitary deity.”-Encyclopædia Britannica. “The doctrine of the trinity . . . is not a product of the earliest Christian period, and we do not find it carefully expressed before the end of the second century.”-Library of Early Christianity-Gods and the One God. “In order to articulate the dogma of the Trinity, the [Catholic] Church had to develop her own terminology with the help of certain notions of philosophical origin.”-Catechism of the Catholic Church. “The impression could arise that the Trinitarian dogma is in the last analysis a late 4th-century invention. In a sense, this is true . . . The formulation ‘one God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century.”-New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967), Volume 14, page 299. “The Council of Nicaea met on May 20, 325 [C.E.]. Constantine himself presided, actively guiding the discussions, and personally proposed . . . the crucial formula expressing the relation of Christ to God in the creed issued by the council, ‘of one substance with the Father.’ . . . Overawed by the emperor, the bishops, with two exceptions only, signed the creed, many of them much against their inclination.”-Encyclopædia Britannica (1970), Volume 6, page 386.

What Is the Holy Spirit? The holy spirit is God’s power in action, his active force. (Micah 3:8; Luke 1:35) God sends out his spirit by projecting his energy to any place to accomplish his will.-Psalm 104:30; 139:7. In the Bible, the word “spirit” is translated from the Hebrew word ruʹach and the Greek word pneuʹma. Most often, those words refer to God’s active force, or holy spirit. (Genesis 1:2) However, the Bible also uses those words in other senses: Breath.-Habakkuk 2:19; Revelation 13:15. Wind.-Genesis 8:1; John 3:8. The vital, or animating, force in living creatures.-Job 34:14, 15. A person’s disposition or attitude.-Numbers 14:24. Spirit persons, including God and the angels.-1 Kings 22:21; John 4:24. These meanings all share the sense of something invisible to humans that produces visible effects. Similarly, the spirit of God, “like the wind, is invisible, immaterial and powerful.”-An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, by W. E. Vine. The Bible also refers to God’s holy spirit as his “hands” or “fingers.” (Psalm 8:3; 19:1; Luke 11:20; compare Matthew 12:28.) Just as a craftsman uses his hands and fingers to do his work, God has used his spirit to produce such results as the following: The universe.-Psalm 33:6; Isaiah 66:1, 2. The Bible.-2 Peter 1:20, 21. The miracles performed by his ancient servants and their zealous preaching.-Luke 4:18; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. The fine qualities displayed by people who obey him.-Galatians 5:22, 23. The holy spirit is not a person By referring to God’s spirit as his “hands,” “fingers,” or “breath,” the Bible shows that the holy spirit is not a person. (Exodus 15:8, 10) A craftsman’s hands cannot function independent of his mind and body; likewise, God’s holy spirit operates only as he directs it. (Luke 11:13) The Bible also compares God’s spirit to water and associates it with such things as faith and knowledge. These comparisons all point to the impersonal nature of the holy spirit.-Isaiah 44:3; Acts 6:5; 2 Corinthians 6:6. The Bible gives the names of Jehovah God and of his Son, Jesus Christ; yet, nowhere does it name the holy spirit. (Isaiah 42:8; Luke 1:31) When the Christian martyr Stephen was given a miraculous heavenly vision, he saw only two persons, not three. The Bible says: “He, being full of holy spirit, gazed into heaven and caught sight of God’s glory and of Jesus standing at God’s right hand.” (Acts 7:55) The holy spirit was God’s power in action, enabling Stephen to see the vision. Misconceptions about the holy spirit Misconception: The “Holy Ghost,” or holy spirit, is a person and is part of the Trinity, as stated at 1 John 5:7, 8 in the King James version of the Bible. Fact: The King James version of the Bible includes at 1 John 5:7, 8 the words “in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth.” However, researchers have found that those words were not written by the apostle John and so do not belong in the Bible. Professor Bruce M. Metzger wrote: “That these words are spurious and have no right to stand in the New Testament is certain.”-A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament. Misconception: The Bible personifies the holy spirit, and this proves that it is a person. Fact: The Scriptures do at times personify the holy spirit, but this does not prove that the holy spirit is a person. The Bible also personifies wisdom, death, and sin. (Proverbs 1:20; Romans 5:17, 21) For example, wisdom is said to have “works” and “children,” and sin is depicted as seducing, killing, and working out covetousness.-Matthew 11:19; Luke 7:35; Romans 7:8, 11. Similarly, when the apostle John quoted Jesus, he personified the holy spirit as a “helper” (paraclete) that would give evidence, guide, speak, hear, declare, glorify, and receive. He used masculine personal pronouns such as “he” or “him” when referring to that “helper.” (John 16:7-15) However, he did so because the Greek word for “helper” (pa·raʹkle·tos) is a masculine noun and requires a masculine pronoun according to the rules of Greek grammar. When John referred to the holy spirit using the neuter noun pneuʹma, he used the genderless pronoun “it.”-John 14:16, 17. Misconception: Baptism in the name of the holy spirit proves that it is a person. Fact: The Bible sometimes uses “name” to stand for power or authority. (Deuteronomy 18:5, 19-22; Esther 8:10) This is similar to its use in the English expression “in the name of the law,” which does not mean that the law is a person. A person who is baptized “in the name of” the holy spirit recognizes the power and role of the holy spirit in accomplishing God’s will.-Matthew 28:19. Misconception: Jesus’ apostles and other early disciples believed that the holy spirit was a person. Fact: The Bible does not say that, nor does history. The Encyclopædia Britannica states: “The definition that the Holy Spirit was a distinct divine Person . . . came at the Council of Constantinople in ad 381.” This was over 250 years after the last of the apostles had died.

Muslims jump from human perspective to divine as it suits their narrative and TOTALLY miss the differing and unified ways God/Christ reveals Himself - person and nature in the books that make up the bible. They claim past Muslims were ‘inspired’ by allah, yet refuse to accept that God (Elohim/Yahweh) inspired those who followed Him as well as others. I find too many Muslims very blinkered in their way of seeing how the bible shows continuity of thought and belief. Anyways, this video was just great. One correction: God DID refer to himself as “We” In Genesis. “WE shall make man in OUR image.” That is an argument for the trinity. God would have no motive to call himself by a plural pronoun unless He was multiple persons.
@IslamCritiqued
@IslamCritiqued 5 лет назад
I think that's a reference to God's heavenly audience during creation, see Job 38, esp verses 6-7. Even if that wasn't the case, the best you could get is divine plurality language, not necessarily trinity, since it's plural as you said, and not specific to three. Regardless, it switches back to singular in verse 27, making your reading of verse 26 even less plausible.
@UrsahSolar
@UrsahSolar 5 лет назад
Ok, I still politely disagree. God touching on His plurality only briefly makes sense. It wasn’t time to introduce the other two persons yet, so why would God speak at length using plural pronouns? That would be super confusing. Here is why I don’t believe Genesis was referencing the Heavenly Audience: To my knowledge, angels are not creators, often times they are harbingers of destruction, and the phrase says, “We shall make..” or “Let us make...” that implies a cooperative component. The phrase is completed by saying, “in *our* image.” The Bible does not say, “Man is made in the image of God and angels,” it says, “Man is made in the image of God,” period. Isaiah 42:8 says that God does not share his glory with anyone. That whole verse in Genesis still doesn’t seem to make any sense unless God is plural, and not singular. I see your perspective though, and I really like your work.

See my previous response about the switching to singular in “his” image “he” created them. Your statement about not being “time” is simply ad-hoc. You should keep in mind there is no substantial basis for your exegesis/interpretation, while there is to the contrary. This reading has only been introduced by people who want to read trinitarian theology into every nook and cranny of the Hebrew Bible. Just something to keep in mind. This is an easily refuted “proof text” for trinitarian theology. I like to give my viewers solid, evidence based content that results from good exegesis and interpretation. That is why I will never use this text for trinitarian theology. Also, “angels” is a much misunderstood term, especially in the Old Testament

Ok. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’ll keep those things in mind. I will concede: if two Christians can’t agree on whether or not the “us” clause in Genesis is referring to the Trinity, then there is absolutely no way it could be used effectively in a debate with a Muslim. The only thing I can think is that the Byzantine Christians were mocking Allah’s use of the word “We” to refer to himself. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain things to me, and I really like your videos. 👍

At which the heavens almost rupture, and the earth splits, and the mountains fall and crumble. 91. Because they attribute a son to the Most Merciful. 92. It is not fitting for the Most Merciful to have a son. 93. There is none in the heavens and the earth but will come to the Most Merciful as a servant.

Of course they were. There isn't discontinuity from Acts for 1500 years until the 'Reform'ation, in which they innovated. The same Church Fathers were Catholic. By early Church, I don't just mean the Apostles. You seem to think the early Church is ONLY the Apostles. Not so. EDIT: You edited your comment beyond "Were the Apostles were Catholic?" So, "Was Jesus catholic?" In the sense that He taught and believed the catholic Faith to be true, yes. Not that He was baptized in the name of the Trinity, or such things, for which He has no need. It's strange to say 'Was Jesus a Christian?' For Christ to believe in Christianity is not the same as a believer in Him to believe in Christianity.

There are still serious problems with the construction of the Trinity doctrine created by the early Church Fathers that you cite. Every Christian agrees that God, The Father; the Son of God (The Father)/Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost/Spirit exist as separate entities. The controversy is primarily about in what form these entities exist, how they came into existence, and how they interrelate (are they equals?) with each other. The concept of the Trinity as explained today did not exist during Christ’s time on earth, was not preached by the Apostles, or taught as doctrine within the first two hundred years of the early Christian Church. This doctrine evolved in order to identify Christianity as a monotheistic religion vs the many pagan and cult religions of the Roman Empire. It also evolved in order to tone down the many differences in doctrinal conflicts between the Eastern and Western Churches and due to the political and religious demands of the Roman Empire. Read the history and learn how mankind deliberately corrupted Jesus Christ’s Church on earth. To believe in the doctrine of the Trinity is fine but to make it one of the core doctrines in Christianity is simply deliberate man made error. Just look at the state of the Christian Church today in all of its forms, full of man made error. This doctrinal argument reminds me of some Christian claims concerning the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of God’s Saints or of today’s Church Replacement Theology. If one repeatedly tells a lie, then documents it, over time humans will believe it and fight for it.

I agree with Christian Prince that the English word for person is not sufficient or in-depth enough to explain what the trinity really is. Three persons is not accurate in our modern understanding of the word person. A person isn’t an individual different from another individual as far as in physical means. A person is a persona. Like your online profile is a person that is you but is not you. This is what is meant by three persons of God. God has dipped his toe in the material world and we call Him Jesus. God’s physical activity in the material world is His Spirit. Three manifestations or personas are better words but still not adequate enough.

I think the “We” in the quran is a polemic against the ideas suggested in the Bible. The We in Genesis is YHWH speaking to this council just like when He spoke to them during the Babel story. We are forced to know that other elohim exist and are subordinate to the Most High and were also created by Him in His image like He created humans. This is all clear once you know what is meant by YHWH is the God of all gods. The We in the quran is to change the meaning from it addressing the other elohim to it being only God in some weird formal announcement. The We means more than one obviously. Once again the quran does dumb things out of ignorance. They have jinn and jinn are elohim aka gods. Elohim are any beings living beyond the veil of our perception. In their own theology they have the answers but are just too ignorant to put it all together.

The two powers in heaven was a doctrine to the ancient Jews before Jesus came. One YHWH was the unseen aka Father and the other was the seen aka Son. Christians added the third which is the Spirit. The Jews knew the Son of Man was described as God and was identified as the same God as YHWH many times so this was not a complete shock when Jesus came. The leaders would have all been Christians too if Jesus said what they liked instead of condemning them. But God condemns them also. The Spirit was the only new addition that probably wasn’t even that new. The Jews knew God was coming in a form of a man. This was obvious. They just didn’t like what He had to say to them.

Should've quoted the full Quranic verse. Here's 4:171 O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. This verse alone is enough to reject trinity, the author isn't confusing with Byzantines Christians. I don't know what interpretations you use to learn the context of Quranic verses but the verse here is pretty simple to understand that its a critique against trinity.

Proof of marry worshipping. An Egyptian Papyrus of the Third Century C.H. Roberts published this document in 1938 (cf. Catalogue of the Greek and Latin Papyri in the John Rylands Library, III, Theological and literacy Texts, Manchester 1938, pp. 46-47). Roberts then dated this piece of papyrus back to the fourth century, thinking it was impossible to find an invocation to the Theotokos before this century (we will however see below, that the expression Theotokos was already in use in Alexandria before 250). However his colleague E. Lobel, with whom he collaborated in editing the Oxyrhynchus papyri, basing his arguments on pure paleographic analysis, argued that the text could not possibly be older than the third century, and most probably was written between 250 and 280. A contributor to Roberts, H.J. Bell, even said that this document might be a "model for an engraver" considering the beauty of the uncials. The Sub tuum praesidium thus precedes by several centuries the Ave Maria in Christian prayer. On the papyrus, we can read: .ΠΟ ΕΥCΠΑ ΚΑΤΑΦΕ ΘΕΟΤΟΚΕΤ ΙΚΕCΙΑCΜΗΠΑ ΕΙΔΗCΕΜΠΕΡΙCTAC AΛΛΕΚΚΙΝΔΥΝΟΥ ...ΡΥCΑΙΗΜΑC MONH ...HEΥΛΟΓThat is this greek text: Ὑπὸ τὴν σὴν εὐσπλαγχνίαν καταφεύγομεν Θεοτὸκε· τὰς ἡμῶν ἱκεσίας μὴ παρ- ίδῃς ἐν περιστάσει ἀλλ᾽ ἐκ κινδύνου λύτρωσαι ἡμᾶς μόνη ἁγνὴ μόνη εὐλογημένη.A literal Latin version might be: Sub tuam misericordiam confugimus, Dei Genitrix ! nostras deprecationes ne des- picias in necessitatibus sed a perditione salva nos sola pura, sola benedicta.And an English translation could be: Under your mercy we take refuge, Mother of God! Our prayers, do not despise in necessities, but from the danger deliver us, only pure, only blessed.

It appears that even though EACH of us are TRI-une (spirit, soul and body) we Are creatures ( created) by an UNCREATED LIVING God. He reveals Himself as TRI-UNE. 1x1x1=ONE NOT 1+1+1=3 or 1x1x1=3. (O N E) Genesis chapter 18 verse1-2 1: "And YHWH ( Lord singular) appeared to him (Abraham) in the plains of Mamre;... 2. And he [Abraham] lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo, THREE men( plural) stood by him [Abraham] YHWH cannot be pronounced (as "jehovah". since it has no vowels). Biblical "three" is His revelation. ONE yet "three" the latter (3) stands for that which is SOLID, REAL and SUBSTANTIAL. YHWH'S attributes are therefore REAL, SUBSTANTIAL and COMPLETE. "Time" ( singular) for example is " past, presence and future ( three yet ONE) God's attributes are": Omnipresence, Omnipotence and Omniscience ( 3). All found in Christ Jesus. A simple reading of the Gospel of John can be an eye-opener.

Do remember that GOD is spiritual and not physical.The Triune GOD is Infinity+Infinity +Infinity =Infinity. There is no mathematical or logical contradiction at all, in this concept.The Infinite TrinitarianGOD is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. Being omnipotent, the Triune GOD is capable of anything IT wish,from creating the incredibly big and complex universe to allowing the second person of it to willingly surrendering HIS Omnipresence (confining to space-time as a human being),omniscience (limiting his divine knowledge,but preserving his divine consciousness), and at the same time retaining his omnipotence. The incarnated second person of GODhead was capable of doing anything including avoidance of crucifixion and death, as he was omnipotent.But HE didn't do it as his death and resurrection was essential for the salvation of us.

"The concept of God doesn't fit into preschool arithmetics" but it sure does contradict it. The whole idea of the trinity is logically incoherent. The Quran rarely gives detailed arguments and sometimes indicates the conclusion that it wants. For example when God says " Did they create themselves or were they themselves the creators?" God is hinting at a logical argument to prove to skeptics that there is a cause for their existence. You can give God all the credit you want as long as you don't postulate that God fits into some other kind of logic or reasoning beyond what we have. You are refusing to admit the trinity is impossible. And the Quran is accurate when it says do not say three. Your trinity is one God, 3 persons, EACH person is God but they are not 3 Gods they are one God and each isn't 1 third of God but rather fully God. That no only doesn't fit preschool arithmetics, it doesn't fit reason. Bringing up preschool arithmetics doesn't do you or your trinity any good and is a little childish. Rather than defending the trinity and providing a sound explanation of it supported with reasoned arguments, you attack the Quran. Even if your criticism of the Quran is accurate, it still doesn't prove the trinity is even possible. Explain the trinity. As for the last bit about you telling Msulims to provide biblical arguments against the trinity if they eant to argument against it, I say no. We do not have to use the bible to argue against the trinity or the divinity of Jesus, I can use a simple logical argument. Here's a simple argument that defeats your conception of God. Definitions: Simple: Having no parts Complex: Having parts. 1- God is necessary. 2- A complex entity cannot be necessary. 3- The trinity is complex. Conclusion: The trinity isn't necessary. Therefore God cannot be triune. Here's a syllogism: 1- If entity X is complex, X is not necessary. 2- The trinity is complex. Conclusion : He trinity is not necessary. Here's an argument that supports the previoue one. 1- A complex entity has parts. 2- The parts are not the same as the whole. 3- The existence of the complex entity is contingent upon the existence of all its parts. 4- Therefore, complex entities are contingent upon something else. 5- Therefore, a a complex entity cannot be necessary. 6- Therefore God cannot be complex. Looking forward to reading your response

And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:6-12‬

Muhammad made a strawman fallacy by invoking triteism to critise trinity.. Muhammad absolutely had no idea how trinity is but he "incorporate" some of trinity concept into Islam that so called "nuzulul quran", when the word of Allah (kalimatullah) become quranic text via illitarate Muhammad (similar to Virgin Mary conceived the Word of God / Logos become flesh). Now problem with Islam is one: whether Word of Allah / Quran is created or eternal and thus uncreated? If Word of Allah is created by Allah, how Allah created everything by his word? Created things can't create another things. If Word of Allah is eternal and uncreated, then there is something beside Allah that eternal and uncreated thus violate monotheism? Same god, everywhere at once. I know it's hard for you to comprehend, but god can multi-task to infinity if he wants to. God has no limits. Another example: I punch a man with my fist and send him to the hospital. The police report doesn't say "A fist hit him" A fist hit him but it was MY fist. My fist is an extension of myself. @@IslamCritiqued you can’t provide 1 verse that proves there’s a trinity

why is bad idea to use this Quranic verse to address the trinity. This verse apply for early christian and also Christians as today. Because it says generally do not say three (Trinity) Just like Surah 112 addressing Pagan Arabs in the 7th century and also addressing Christians today. Many Christians worshiped Mary back then and also today (Catholic) I can go against the concept of the trinity from the Quran very easy. Since Christians do not believe in the Quran then this will not be convincing to use the Quran as prove to them.

Ali Hassan muslims should not use the Quran because as I said, the arguments against anything resembling the trinity are simplistic, “say not 3” (so Allah can do preschool math, big deal) or come from a very weak set of arguments, such as this sect of Byzantines used. Either way, the Quranic responses to the Trinity are extremely weak and unsophisticated. And they do not address Divine plurality and oneness throughout the biblical texts. Since these arguments aren’t addressed in the Quran, Muslims have to go elsewhere.

Why should Quran be very specific on addressing Divine plurality and oneness ?? Do not say 3 which mean do not say trinity so this verse fit well for Divine plurality and oneness and also three separate gods . Moreover, quran says Jesus the son of Mary is NOT god and this automatically refute also Divine plurality and also said God is eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not nor is he begotten and there is none like unto Him. As you can see this indirectly, addressing the deity of Jesus and trinity as whole. Even though verse was not addressing christian however, still apply to them

Ali Hassan the trinity does not say three separate Gods. If you still think this you haven’t understood the video I posted before this. Begotten? I won’t get into the Greek, but the word comes from two Greek words meaning “only” and “unique”. Any argument based on the English meaning for “begotten” fails. It’s a really bad argument.

I know what the trinity mean. Greek ? I read it in Arabic and that what it says He begetteth not nor is He begotten it is in pure Arabic

Begotten in Arabic is different from the Greek word and not based in English meaning. And this verse was addressing pagan Arab who said God has kids but it can apply for both early Arab and christian today or can also address Hindu or Buddhists believe or anyone say we are children of God.

if you are misguided dont misguide others. Quran says, dont say three, it doesnt say 3 gods or 3 in one. such a simple fact you twisted to gain support of your musguides understanding.
