started on a 2015 fz07 2 years ago, 18 years old now and I can say as long as you're easy on the throttle until you get used to the torque, its a perfect first bike.
Something you could do if you're a total noob is buy a 180/60 rear tire without changing the sprockets. This would take a lot of the balls out of the bike and make it way more rookie-friendly. I did this with my FZ1 and it helped me not wreck it as a beginner, I got a 190/55 back tire and didn't change the sprockets.
yeah i just picked one up and it’s my first time ever riding (got a 15 fz07) and it’s really easy to control and weave around. i’m totally fine with it and everyone who has ridden a lot has loved it
I'd advise any beginner to stay as far away from this bike as possibly. Buy it after you have at least a year or two experience with an 400 or 500 A2 bike. Any mistake a beginner does with this powerful engine can potentially turn out tragic. We all know that in the beginning there is no experience, no muscle memory, no intuition developed, no mistakes made which were smoothed out by a small cc bike forgiveness and lack of response. Anything that goes wrong will be bad. If some people started out with a big cc bike and turned out well, it doesn't mean that everyone will. The most accidents and deaths are around sporty powerful bike whom were ride by young people. That's why this category has the most expensive insurance as well. So my advice is for any beginner to stay away for a the first 2 tears or so and this should not be the first big bike.
nope Mt07 are crazy power, a 16/18 year old is most likely gonna wanna go fast and ride faster than he is capable of at the start, thats how they die. I started of on a 125 4 stroke due to regulations and going from that to a mt07 gave me a lot of skill
Hey man, I’m a beginner rider and pretty much have no experience on motorcycles. No dirt bikes or anything, just the MSF course and I picked up a 2019 MT07 as my first bike literally last Wednesday and so far it’s going pretty well. I’m 17 and for me the main few things that I’m having difficulty with are learning clutch control, like at a stop light, and dealing with the weight at lower speeds like taking off from a stop or stopping at a light. If you’re a beginner and you’re thinking, “I should probably start off with a 300 or 400 as a first bike I’m kinda scared of the power” don’t be. As long as you aren’t a speed demon who goes full throttle every chance you get and you know a thing or two about being smooth on the throttle you could easily learn on this bike and ride it as your first. Like I said I just got this bike a week ago and only rode it a few days now but so far it’s going great, just know that if a 17 year old with zero experience can handle the power then you probably can too.
@streetbutter6935 I bought mine when I was 20 and only had about 6 months on a grom, 23 now and I've seen some people start on these and crash them in a couple of months. It's possible to start on, I kinda did it lol, but just gotta be careful
It’s not about being able to handle the power, it’s about learning how to use the power. I glad you are being careful with the throttle but eventually you’ll get in a situation where you’re going to have to twist that throttle so just keep in mind that this particular bike is known for violent power wheelies. I’m sixty years old and have been riding since 1969 . I have also been racing motorcycles since the mid eighties. When I left the dealership on my new 2021 mt07 the front tire didn’t touch pavement until 4th gear. This thing is a hoot!
As a 35 year old who just bought an MT-07 as his first bike, I 100% believe that if I bought a bike when I was 20, I'd be dead. I was driving my car at 150+ mph when I was 18. I waited until I knew I could trust myself with a bike before I bought one, and I took the MSF course. So far my top speed on the bike is like 60 mph for 2 seconds lol
I’m 35 an are considering doing my bike test as my cars days are over with having a family now. Only thing putting me off is the factor that bike are more dangerous, I had a pretty quick car for many years ( vw r32 mark 4 ) but crashed my old pug so I wised up and became more aware of my driving. I think I’d carry the same principles to driving a bike an obviously having kids now but is it worth the risk 😅.. how you manage to get a mt07 for your first bike? Did you not need to drive a 125 to learn first no?
Just bought the 23 MT-07 as my first bike a few months ago and it couldn't be going better. I absolutely love it. Never rode dirt bikes as a kid but I did grow up on the back of a Goldwing as a passenger with over 200k km's travelled throughout my life.
I did my direct access on the MT07 and that was after a 10 year break with only 125cc experience. Got to say after learning how to control the MT at slow speeds i felt totally comfortable. It will do what you tell it to, the only time this bike would be an issue is if youre doing things you shouldnt be doing on public roads. The abs inspire confidence, you have an engine capable of handling city commuting and motorway rides, its comfortable and on top of that it doesnt break the bank to get your hands on one. Im not sure how different the training is in other countries to legally be able to ride this but in the UK you're given proper training to be able to handle this kind of bike.
I agree with you, having passed my cbt this week you can learn alot on a 125cc bike. In the UK people don't understand how bad our roads are with traffic, narrow and often wet with potholes. Also road positioning is key. I was going direct access to get a ninja 400 but decided experience on a 125cc will be far more helpful then jump straight to a middleweight after a few miles under my belt
1:43 spot on. i know few 20 years old who bought 07 without any experience, they all crashed in stupid ways like loosing conntrol of the bike. i personally think most people should outgrow a 400 first
bought my mt07 at 32 and i still pushed it to the limits going 140mph(odo speed), i was riding a 500 before that and while you do get used to the highway pulling speed pretty quick, from stop to stop this thing can rip your arms off if you're not careful. If i was 16-18 i would probably be dead, at that age i was already jumping dirt mounds with an old cavalier z24 lmao
what? maybe for little girls, my first bike was an MT07 put down 19,000 miles in less than year and immediately jumped to an MT10 - MT07 is the perfect beginner bike, no electronics, no abs, no respawn button 👍🏾🤟🏽🔥
I’m 24 and I’ve been riding for less than a year, so I’m a beginner. I bought a 2018 mt07 as my first bike and I have to say it’s a powerful motorcycle but as long as you are careful and get used to the throttle you will have no problems. I’m very happy and I love my bike
I work at one of the biggest motorcycle dealers in the world and have several times seen new riders buy an mt-07/r7 and nearly kill themselves pulling out of the shop or crash it with a day of owning the bike. 100% not a beginner bike.
@@GenericExotics Well I feel like it’s better to go on the side of safety. Obviously some ppl will start of with it and be fine. But if it’s too much bike for even 20% of people then I wouldn’t call it a beginner bike. In my experience it’s about 50/50 chance they do okay on it as a first bike.
As you described a 20 year ish with a few bucks i bought an mt 07 2020 last summer and i have been learning from it from the day i got it, hit the track a few weeks ago to try and learn to ride better and for me it is a very nice bike if you are nice with it and dont throw the gas and pop a 360 in first gear also a good bike if u want to learn some basic maintenance because it is very easy to work on this platform and do a lot of mods.
I'm 60, had most widow makers you can think of RR, R1, R6, GSXR spanning over 25 years then after a 15 years pause due to family commitment got back to riding with the safe choice MT-07. It's a good punchy twin but nothing overwhelming and frankly it could very well suit a beginner who knows what he's doing. It reminds me my first biggie which was a Kawa 650 Z1, the scare faded after the first junction...
Intermediate beginner bikes yes. Technically, every bike is a first bike. If you have riding experience, and are extremly passionate about riding with as much skill as you can have, start on whatever you want. I personally started on an mt-07, and then traded it for a Gen 2 mt-09sp, 3 weeks later 😂
I agree!! I started with a KTM Duke 125 for 1 year, then a Yamaha R3 for 1 year, and now for over 2 years a Yamaha R7 and that's the way to do it when you never drove a bike before in my opinion.
Just bought my own mt-07 with the experiance going from 50 cc bikes, 125 bikes and 450 cc bikes and I can’t stress this enough. The mt-07 IS NOT a beginner bike, the bike has so much torque and it’s fun and all because I have gas control and have some experience behind me but just for your own good, start on a bike with MAX 50 hp and under.
Nah... I'd say that with my 100kgs on a 125 Yamaha XSR Legacy Edition even medium hills cause trucks to catch up with me and tailgate me. Not too safe. Starting now my big bike licence and looking towards MT07.
I can't imagine a grown man thinking a mt07 is too much for them, sorry. If anything a 'beginner' bike is worse because it lacks the power to get out of trouble and you'll be wishing it had more guts on long trips and on the highway.
I disagree. Especially if you live in a wet environment and are learning on city streets. I learnt on a 300 and was surprised how easily you can break traction in the rain, was scared of the acceleration, many things that would’ve been even worse/discouraging on a 650cc. Plus you’re realistically gonna drop it if you actually want to learn full control of the bike so get something cheap. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’ll certainly be easier to learn on something that’s only twice as fast as an average car rather than 3x. Not everyone has had experience with RWD cars/high power cars/dirt bikes or manual transmissions before. It’s important to look past ego in this game (there’s plenty of ego to go round as is)

As long as you get restricted version in the beginning it is a good bike to start on. But I do agree, 55kW (+kW from aftermarket exhaust) on this cp2 engine is more than should beginner has. Sometimes it could be even more deadly than 600cc as you get really decent amount of torque in low rpms.
Yea, I had this conversation not too long ago, I think the CP2 is more dangerous for a complete beginner than a 4-cylinder 600, especially the R6 because it's got no low-end torque. All just opinions though, anything is possible.
Got an MT07 as my first bike and I absolutely love it. No regrets whatsoever. The only problem I have with it and this is a nitpick is that I have no idea what to get for my second bike. Minus the off road because I don’t care about going off road, the MT07 is a jack of all trades and a master of some. It checks the box for everything in a way that leaves little wiggle room for anything else… for me at least.
I've owned mine for 3 years, I really like the new MT-09. The thing felt like it was glued to the road, but it lost some of that playfulness that the MT-07.
I started on the mt 07 and sure i accidentally wheelied a couple times, experienced a death wobble going 120 that thankfully went away (haven't gone that fast since), had a couple 2-3 close calls, but other than that as long as you're a good driver then I don't see the problem. One of the things that helped was about a month after i bought my motorcycle I was in a very bad car crash but thankfully i was in my car... And the car crash wasn't my fault... I was going under the speed limit straight through a green light when a woman pulled out trying to turn left through the intersection. So when i was on my bike i was thinking about people pulling out twenty-four seven. At intersections, heavy lined up traffic, right turns, left turns, or simply just going through green lights. This gave me the healthy fear I needed to be safe out there with little to no gear on my body.
@@GenericExotics that sucks bruh, here in europe u need to have 30 hours of practical driving time + pass the course with cones in order to ride 600cc and more and u must be 24 years old, its pretty strict
@prodbypjay7148 Yeah at age 18 in the US you can spend $100 for a weekend course to get your motorcycle license. Very little training is required. Just gotta do some figure 8's for the final test. In a handful of states, it's just a written exam.
I started on a bike that’s a bit heavier than this and slower It was a 95 yzf600. I’ve ridden a few other styles including the mt07. I will say out of everything in the 600-800cc class the mt07 is my absolute favorite. It’s nimble, has good power and if you’re kind to it you won’t kill yourself on it. I was glad to have experience on some other platforms before getting on the mt, because it is pretty rowdy. I will be getting an mt07 for my next bike. It suits my tame ish riding style. I’ve been riding pretty regularly for about 2 years now. As long as you don’t get carried away you’ll be fine on an mt. I do agree though I personally would not have been in a good place if I rode one of these from day one.
My driving school had MT-07 as learning bike. But we dont have these quick-learning schools like USA. My license took 14 weeks to complete so i had a decent amount of time to practise. And i fell in love with the MT-07 so much so i bought one after license was done. Its a perfect starter bike if you have a steady foundation to learn on. EU laws are very different in what kind of experience you need to have and learn before getting the license.
I'm in the US, and I hate that they didn't do any on the road training... you do everything in a parking lot... very, very basic stuff... I was terrified going out on to the road for the first time... I've been taking baby steps with and just commuting to work basically... I had to teach myself what and how to use engine braking... Thankfully I started on an mt03, and it's a very easy bike to learn to ride on, and fun too!
When i was new to a big bike, mt 07 was my first big bike. Even though it is nimble, relatively slim and doesn't look intimidating but sure her power n' torque is monstrous really shocked me at first, once u change the exhaust to the free flow one the sound of it will make u realize that this is not a mere naked bike, its more like a two wheeler angry bull that u sat on and that's addicting 😅
my driving school (im from europe) only uses the mt07 becaus it is the best beginner bike (for the full A license) so i learnt to ride on a mt07 and since i knew that bike the best that is what i bought as my first bike
Hey man, I did a video about this. I don't agree with you but I do. Personally, a 300 for me is too small but that also has to do with the fact that I am 6"2 and 200 pounds. I believe that the MT07 is actually great compared to other nakes like the Ducati Monsters. it really comes down to the individual. if you have self-control and are too tall for 300cc definitly look at 600+ where you won't feel like Donkey Kong riding a bicycle 😂
The MT07 has a long throttle because of the bottom end torque and lighter build, I have noticed that the people who change the throttle to the R series version comment about choppy throttle and front lifting problems. The MT07 is perfectly fine for beginners that dont want to change their motorcycle after their restricted license and dont want to ride like a speed demon. Perfect city commuter bike that can comfortably reach highway speeds.
Seriously considering this as a 2nd bike. Been riding a WR250X supermoto for the past 3 years (with a good amount of off-road time by swapping dirt bike wheels on it for trail riding trips), and I fell in love with how light and nimble the supermoto platform is (and the dirt cheap insurance that comes with a 250 cc bike). It means I can have a lot of fun on it without going very fast. I figured it's almost time for something a little more grown-up for the street, while maybe keeping the WR for strictly trail use. The MT-07 seems like it keeps a lot of that supermoto feel.
I'm a new rider. Never really used a clutch. I got the r7 for my first bike after selling my Ryker 900. Saying the R7 is for beginners is a stretch. Learning throttle control with a torquey bike is not easy. Also with the super aggressive stance you'll be sore until those muscles groups get used to it.
I was thinking about getting a mt07 as a first bike but tbh I’ve never really riden a bike. I’ve riden quads so I have throttle experience. But after seeing this video I might just stick with the mt03 or the r3
Honestly I just bought a 2015 Fz07 and it is powerful. I’ve ridden before but not for a while. I got nervous at a yellow light and flipped forward. I still ride it but my forearms are still healing. Still getting used to it after a month or so. Dash display got knocked off. Tail light busted. Any advice on fixing it?
Hey Eric! I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your video! I'm in the process of getting my first bike, and after a year and a half of research, I've set my sights on the MT-07. At 30 years old and standing at 6'4", I feel like I bring a level of maturity and careful consideration to this decision that may not be as common in younger riders. I believe that I have the patience, caution, and reserve needed to ease into riding the MT-07 comfortably. It seems like a bike that will not only be a great fit for me now but also serve me well for many years to come. The torque factor keeps things exciting while the upright position promises a comfortable commute, which is important to me. I've heard amazing things about the sound of the MT-07, especially after replacing the stock exhaust - I can only imagine how incredible it must be in person! I have a ninja 400, and I've been riding for about a year now on it, and I was looking at the ZX6R, but after looking into the MT07 I like it more because I do city riding and I think it would be perfect for how I ride, I don't care about top speed, but I do like being quick, and comfortable, like a balance between slow and fast but I'm not for the way 600s make you hunch. I love the naked bikes for many reasons, and I think I'm ready for an MT07
A Ninja 400 to MT07 is a very doable jump as the MT07 isn’t a ton quicker then the Ninja 400 believe it or not, especially at higher speeds. From a low speed roll the MT07 will get a good jump, but if you do a 70 mph roll the MT07 will probably only get a bike length on your Ninja 400. Weight/aero makes a big difference at higher speeds…
I just started riding motorcycles in 2023 in Germany. Got my A2 license so the my mt-07 is restricted to 48ps/35kw roughly. Im 20 years old and since there are no PS/KW restrictions in the USA i completely agree with you. I have ridden the unrestricted 07 before and my god its a lot crazier than the restricted one so if you buy a mt-07 as a beginner i would suggest restricting it. :) But that only goes for speed demons like me who absolutely love the adrenaline. But after a week in the alps i was pretty much acustomed to the bike.
I kinda agree, in the UK you can put A2 restriction on on a MT-07. But being leaned over on a R7 as a newbie I do not recommend, your awareness and control is not ready. If you are large person a Ninja 650 could be ok but I always recommemd the Ninja 400/Z400 platform if you are 6ft and below.... Pick one up second hand, invest in good gear and training, ride for two years the save up for a GSXR-8R or similar to move up towards.
I toatly agree with you on the 300s i had my mt03 for a year and was still not bord of it but then i upgraded to the mt07 for my second bike and i don't see my self selling it.
I’m a beginner and I’d beg to differ. As long as one is profoundly responsible and respectful of the power in the throttle, you should be fine. I have not once put myself in any danger as a newbro on my r7.
Starting with a 686cc is probably better than starting with a 200/300cc and moving up. Also much better having greater power if taking it on highway speeds rather than an r3 that will have less of a throttle response at higher speed, plus the added wear of running higher RPM’s on the highway
Lots of ego in these comments. Mt-07 is not a beginner bike. Could it be someone’s first bike? Sure of course. But it’s not a joke for a first time rider. There’s always two camps in these debates, buy something around 400/500 for a few months and then trade it for a 600+, or start with something 600+ but take it easy and grow into it. Honestly I feel like either could be fine. I can only speak to my experience, I started on a smaller bike and then traded up to the mt-07. I feel fine with my decision. All I can say was that the mt-07 felt like a ton of power for me as a newbie, 6 months into riding. Probably wouldn’t recommend a personal friend of mine to start on it as their first bike. Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.
I started on an R125 and then got the R7 six months later - I consider myself a beginner and the R7 is perfect, plenty of fun, nothing bad happens when you twist the throttle fully, amazing handling. To be honest I can see myself riding this for the next 10 years as it's perfect for UK roads and I'm not really a track bro.
Mt07 was my first motorcycle, although I did start on a Yamaha Xmax 300 scooter for 6 weeks to learn how to ride without worrying about gears. All my friends were saying the mt07 would be too torquey, that I’ll be too aggressive on the throttle, and whatever else people say… Honestly, after almost 10 months and 2 tracks days on this bike, there is no other bike I would rather have started on. It’s really hard to lift the front wheels up unless you’re literally going full pin from 1st gear. Even in 2nd it’s hard to pull up the front wheel unless you clutch up. But I’m not sure why people say this isn’t good for beginners. Maybe if you’re 18 years old and have zero self control, then yeah I can see that (I’m 36 and started riding at 35). Great bike that I still have along with my Tracer 900. I’l have converted the 07 to my track bike that I also use on the street. Good video tho
I started on a new Yamaha R7 and me personally i just went easy on the throttel managment because of how pricey it was and it was new so i couldnt even drive it to its limit but if you go easy i think its perfect as a beginner bike you got fun torque to play with and not to slow or to fast

I started riding on a 21’ Mt 07 the torque at first was a little much but after a while u know throttle control and it’s a rather easy bike to ride as long as u respect it. It has the power down low but if u ever take it on the highway expecting to go fast like over 220km/h then it’s not your type of bike. It’s a perfect around town back road bike though and with a proper exhaust sounds amazing
i actually started on a MT-07, im actually having a blast! besides the wind kinda sucks sometimes. but, i do agree with how easy it is to pop a wheelie. did it my 2nd day owning it lmfao
A few years ago, reviewers were saying that the FZ-07 (the bike's previous name) was a terrible beginner bike because of its wheelie-inducing torque in lower gears. Then, suddenly, everyone is saying it's a *_great_* starter! I have no idea what changed, unless it was corporate pushback from Yamaha.
In sweden we got MT7 and CB650R as practice bike in traffic school and myself consider to buy a CB650R. Now i am 31 dont have drive license because other things came to my life that was more important but i drived 883 Sportster and that sure was abit harder.. it was a 04 model or somewhere there and i remember the clutch was hard and i didnt rly like it but i manage it. The turns wasn't rly the best either. The sportster was lowered too. But i practice like 2 times on a carpark then on regular street to highway. No experience with any 2 wheeler with engine before and at that time i was around 21 years old if i remember correctly. I have a freind that got his license 2 years ago with not much experience either with bikes and he bought a Suzuki gsx 750 that he practice on and took license on aswell. That bike he drives crazy with now and u cab hear him coming miles away even got tickets just few weeks after he got license. 😂 I dont know about mt7 but Honda has that system to stop wheelie to happen and most bikes have all those fancy system for braking and etc. When u start to practice its kinda obvious u have respect for the throttle and not like hand twisting and make a wheelie 😂 Or any other foolish movement. Plus it comes to the teacher to inform you about thinks u may not know about.. plus yourself should be interesting to get more info on how things work. Thats how i am atleast. I heard few of my workers to say i should buy a older bike etc bla bla.. becuse i can fall with a new bike.. I can fall even with license and probably higher risk at that time becuse u will test your limits more 😅 It just annoys me some people try to stop u buy the bike u want. I can clearly understand if it was bike with 190hp and expensive insurance as hell.. i get it. But these middle cc bikes are decent price cheap insurance because most of them are classed as Touring and not sport bike. MT7 ain't a overkill sure it's a easy wheelie bike but u wont do that as a beginner if u are not a motocross experience guy 😅 I give thumps up to anyone that buys a decent modern one that they sit good on and have feet on the ground. Becuse most bikes will stop u from wheelie and u can change the respond too on some bikes plus it comes to you how u handle it but aslong u are easy on throttle u will learn your limits pretty quick. I think 600-800cc bikes are the normal standard starter bike most people buy here in sweden.
As a person who started on a 600 and has been on track and anything else with 2 crashes not proud of it. I can say in fact you definitely outgrow a bike once you get used to it
Some people are more responsible, or pay attention to everything going on better, but it’s easy to get distracted especially on a bike.. ‘16 fz-07 was my first bike brand new after MSF course, did lots of upgrades just under 8 years riding it. I’d agree about taking track days to understand the capabilities of a bike and the rider’s potential, but not everyone was born to be a Rossi. Every ride should be a new lesson, even if it’s a quick trip, always strive to be a better rider/practice slow maneuvers, don’t plateau and get complacent.
100% agree. Guys remember, purpose of your first bike is to LEARN TO RIDE. 300-400cc bikes are lot more appropriate Its too much power for someone not responsible. I started on MT 07 when I was 30 years old. Honestly, about first 1k miles I was pretty scared of the bike and wasnt learning much. Just surviving the bike. There is no f**ing way I would allow my 20 years old me to start on MT-07. For beginner it really feels like a damn rocket. Eventually, I grew into it but there are just better tools to learn the basics (safely) than MT-07. Just get a Duke 390 / Z400 / Ninja 400 / R3 / DRZ400
Technically didn't start on one. Had an Onyx RCR moped prior, which had similar to 250cc MX bike torque. My 2021 MT-07 is my first motorcycle with a clutch, and gearbox. I recently dropped it because i took iut out before we got a solid rain to wash the roads, went over loose sand, and gravel by my house. Now, I'm doing physical therapy on my leg to reduce the scar tissue. Bike starts up good still. Only damage was to the frame slider end, kickstand, and debris in the break caliper. Once I get used to the bike, and have gotten a few years out of it, I want a Tracer 9 GT+. Just wish there was a track in my area for track days.
Got my first bike last year. A 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa, rode 1200 miles last summer. No problems what so ever, great bike. Lucky it comes with an adjustable throttle which can be easily controlled with your wrist ;)
That’s the thing 90% of people who own a bike don’t do any track days, stunting, or push themselves on windy/curvy roads and neither do they want to. Most of the U.S is highways and you have to ride an hour out if you live in a big city.
I started on an mt07. 2022 brand new. Took my msf course right before I got it but was a total bike noob. No joke the bike was a LOT at first.. BUT, with some discipline I actually learned the bike fairly quick. You just have to respect the hell out of it or things could get out from under you pretty quick. With that said I was 28 when I started.. I’m pretty sure as reckless as I was in my early 20s I would definitely have done something stupid with that much power to start with.
Same story I laid my down on way home from dealer brand new mt7 .got it back and really enjoy this tq e bike.got my first wheelie last week by accident in 2nd on hard pull scared the shut out of me .500 miles on it now and pretty confident on it .just luv this bike
the driving school i learn uses the mt-07. i like the feel and respons of the bike. i haven't driven any other bike or scooter before. in my oppinion if you start out easy and pickup the pace from there it is a good bike to start on.
I would just recommend you take the msf course and or/ have a buddy show you the basics on a dirt bike before you hop on the 07 if you’re dead set on getting one. Familiarize yourself with controlling a motorcycle and then take it easy at first and you’ll be ok
i have just bought my first motorcycle which has 140cc and it is crazy new experience for me and I can't think about those 600cc motorcycles these things are hella fast
I would consider myself beginnerish but I am a bit older. Got about 3000 miles under my belt. Just rode about 400 miles during last week with the MT07 and I see where your coming from. The torque needs some getting used to. But it’s ok if your not messing around and asking for trouble. If I would be in the beginning of my 20s I would be messing around and asking for trouble :D
It’s this simple… if you can fully understand the ergonomics and how a motorcycle actually works even if you’ve never ridden you can ride any bike on the road. My first and current bike is a cbr 954rr Fireblade. I know a few people with mt-07s and they ARE ABSOLUTELY beginner bikes and I would recommend them to beginners who don’t want a shitty little R3.
There's a lot to people and a lot to motorcycles. It would be nice to be able to simply say this IS a beginner bike and THIS is NOT a beginner bike, however it's not quite as simple as that. There are many levels of beginners for riding motorcycles. Have the ridden bicycles, skateboards, dirt bikes, atvs, etc? Any experience in moving faster than walking/running where you have to maintain balance is a great start already. A lot of people who are brand new to something aren't going to be comfortable right off the bat with it. I personally started out on a 50cc scooter and quickly got bored with it. In terms of actually riding a motorcycle, I started out with a 1978 Honda Cx500-c. It's a fun bike, have gotten it to 85 mph, old but good. I just upgraded 2-3 weeks ago to a 2024 Ninja 650 w/ ABS, and let me tell you that while both are motorcycles, and both could be ridden by anyone as a starter, they are different. The Honda you won't flip, it weighs 500 lbs or so, and doesn't have the power. The 650 can wheelie, stoppie, probably fairly easliy loop if you're not careful (idk, I have never looped a bike). Personally, I think before anyone rides, they should do their research, looks for a lower end power bike but in the category they want (unless they know for a fact what bike they want specifically), and before they buy any bike, I would have them do a rider safety course and get their endorsement along with some practice. In the end, everyone is their own person, and they'll do what they want regardless, the best we can hope for is to be able to influence them towards the right decision for themselves.
Alright you kinda nailed this on the head for me lol. I'm 20, have a little money, and want something I can commute to work with and rip through some twisties with. However, I've got probably 50 hrs on dirt bikes 125-400cc, and I can handle that 400 just fine on sketchy trails. I'm used to driving semi-fast manual cars, I'm a 6'2" 185lb dude, I guess I don't think an MT-07 is that unreasonable. Plus you can get them used for like the same prices as a ninja 400 abs.
Nah, this is my driving school's exam bike, i rode it a lot there, i completely disagree with you. For me this is the most basic bike to ride, when i rode it i felt like the bike drove for me or at least it greatly helps the driver. But this is my opinion. And what i say to everyone, yes ofcourse mt-07 is a POWERFULL bike, but it all comes down to the driver.
Iv rode bikes from a kid and mid 30s now I find it's alot more fun driving a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow if that makes sense lol the mt03s are alot of fun also or smaller again the mt125s. People watch a few RU-vid videos of idiots racing down the highway and think they could do that and end up scrubbed lol even the most experienced riders get caught out, all it takes is someone to pull out Infront of you. Ride safe bro 👍
Every single salesman will say you will outgrow an mt03 or an r3 or ninja 400 in a week. Only because they want you to go in for a 600cc for the extra 3 or 4 thousand bucks.
ill be honest i wish i woulda got a bigger bike already, i have a 650. only had it for a year as a beginner bike. wish i would have gotten something bigger. i grew up riding though. it is true though if you like to ride and have been you will outgrow things.
I had a brand new rebel 500 from the dealership and in 2 months I got rid of it for a cbr600rr even tho I lost a lot of money I gained my balls back. 😂
The R7/MT07 definitely arent beginner bikes, but if a person wants to start on it its 100% doable. Just takes some sense of responsibility and maturity. I started on my stepdads 2000 GSXR 750, but I also spent like a month (off and on, college) doing drills, getting used to the throttle, breaks, shifting, and studying the MSF and manual before I even considered going out of my neighborhood streets. Didnt help I live near Memphis where driving fast is the norm. Because of that though (a year later)Ive never had a moment where I bit off more than I could chew, and both highway and city riding feel perfectly in control. Understand what it is youre riding, and treat it as such
I said the same thing about people getting bored of a small bike like a 400. They scared to lean the bike is what I hear from them. They call me crazy for wanting to lean the bike but it's made to do that.
Hey man i just bought my 2023 version in October, its been gr8, i had my A2 license in a Z400 and felt it was alright, but this bike is just awesome, u just got to be careful with the throttle altho im not saying i didnt get any scary situations, cuz i did, in the first month i dropped my bike on a full stop (happens), after that, i got some confidence with it, and every single week on the first month i was getting an "accident" (nothing to serious), ill admit it, i drive it in a fun way, even tho now in my country its rainy so i dont usually go crazy on it now, i believe this is a perfect first bike to be honest, i have the 35kw version but i run it on the 55, and man i couldnt have bought a different bike this is perfect to learn, the thing i need to practise more is leaning since i still have 1cm or more to use on the rear tyre xD. One thing i would like to know its, how do you pop up that wheel so smoothly on second gear, i gave alot of gas on first gear and the wheel barely lift of the ground, one time it actually spin (lost traction) but it didnt lift, i would like to learn how to wheelie but dont want to crash my bike xDD Thank you for the video!
I rode a Ducati 1098 for months after getting my license through the MSF. You can pretty much ride anything as a beginner if you’re not stupid. I’ve seen new riders easily crash R3s, Ninja 400s, R6, R1, etc. Hell, a TTR-125 in the wrong hands is deadly 😂
Im 24 and i bought SV650S as my first big bike (73HP and 65Nm) and its fun! I was doing my driving license on blocked MT07 and it was fun too, now i think that im gonna buy MT (unlocked).
Gang a mt07 is the farthest thing from a good bike to take to the track it has pogo stick front forks if anything the r7 would be, but the mt07 makes a good beginner/commuter bike with the low end torque and comfy ergos
I can’t even imagine calling a motorcycle bad just because the forks suck as they come from the factory. I’ve been riding long enough to remember when almost every motorcycle you could buy has crappy suspension. We just set them up to work better. You would be shocked at just how well the forks on an mt07 work with minimal effort. My god all it cost me was a bottle of belray 20wt fork oil and two pvc risers cut 10mm shorter than the stock spacers. Oh yeah , raise the fork tubes 8mm in the clamps to make turn in quicker.
As with everything else in life, it depends on the individual. I do not believe the MT07 has an unmanageable amount of power for most people. You just have to respect the bike. That is not so much a measure of skill as it is mentality. I do believe that most people who’d crash an MT07 would also promptly crash a 300 because it’s simply the way they ride.
bro you dont need to constantly be on the throttle. Especially doing a power wheelie and saying “ this is not what you want as a beginner “ anyone with a brain as a beginner wont be doing that. Go easy on the throttle and you’ll be fine on this bike starting out. Just like with any bike, just don’t be dumb.
I started on a Cbr500r, rocked it for 15k miles for a year and a half… learned the chops…. Then traded it for an rs660… and I wouldn’t change anything if I could.
Finally some one with the same opinion as me, the mt09 its better for a beginner than the mt07, mt09 has anti wheelie and traction control. Safe ridings!
No way dude I have an 07, the mt09 even is torquer than the 07, it lifts the wheel up in 3rd with just power no clutch. Even in low to mid rpm. Maybe the newer 2021 models are more balanced but a mt07 would still be way off. 115hp 67ft torque crazy machine, that’s why I got the 07.
I mean yeah that makes sense. But I’m going to buy a bike I want to keep for as long as possible and not get tired of. So I’m going to get an R7. I’m 25 and am getting my license at the end of February. I just know I won’t get over confident and start tryna ride like I got years of experience
I agree. I had the same mt07 as you do.. I live in Croatia, where people are taking a driving license on mt07, which is, in my opinion, wrong. Mt07 is a torque bike, and for beginners, it is not a good bike to start with.. for the second bike is fine 😁. In my case, it was my first bike, but I am old enough to remain calm when driving 😁 Be safe and have fun!
Coming from a 125, it took me precisely two turns to get used to it. It's a perfect first "big bike", but with zero experience; maybe not, if im honest.
