He was great and I think that anyone that loves sprinting knows how good he was. But that's it. He lacks consistency and that's one of the most important aspect of any athlete. You can say that it was because of the injuries (I'm not saying that it's not) but if you look at Asafa Powel, Tyson Gay, or Justin Gatlin, all of them were always very consistent.
Pretty much. If bolt never existed we would all be talking about Blake as a legend lol. It reminds me of Jordan existing and all these legends in the NBA have no rings lol
When Usain Bolt would be in the same race and would have felt Blake beside him, he probably would have pushed a little harder, instead of almost cruisin to the finish like he did during his WR because of being way out front... If this.., if that...
Exactly as he turns the corner with 100m to go the stagger was completely made up and he realized he could lose. If he had been ahead would he have run that fast, almost always faster if you have a target just in front or if someone is chasing you just behind. Everyone remembers race where Bolt might have got a record at the time but literally let up in a 100m race because everyone was three or four steps back.
Totally agree. When Donovan Bailey won in the olympics it looked like he flinched or kind of picked up before the start, but his feet must have stayed on the pads. Then as he settled the gun went off and he got a terrible start, almost like he thought he had started early. Then he gathered himself and just hammered it to victory.
@@shaikhazharuddin8926 also 19.26 if I'm not entirely wrong in 200m, which is 2nd best I guess. Although these if and but doesn't work on real pitch/track/life.
he is now almost forgotten. Since 2012 he ran 200m under 20 sec only 1 time. He was supposed to be the next sprnt king. He is 30 now, and unfortunately injury that happened in 2013 ruined his career....
You can say an injury led to this but I say the drug testing got more stricter since then. Before 2012 there’s a lot of research and documentaries showing the Jamaican anti doping system was pretty much non existent and was covered to spider webs. Since 2012 Top Jamaican sprinters haven’t had the performances they once had and most not even close. Nesta Carter the teams 1st leg was the 4th fastest man in Beijing and he later tested positive for banned PED stimulant methylhexaneamine which led to Trinidad getting awarded the Gold medal. I don’t hate Nesta nor ant of these dedicated athletes. I hate rigged WADA that’s picking and choosing who to protect and who to choose as their scapegoat. Big name athletes will always be protected UNLESS there’s a whistleblower. Money runs the world. It’s an entertainment business.
I knew about Blake and admired him greatly. I saw this race on TV live and was blown away by the time, the 2nd fastest ever and only .07 away from Bolt's record. I didn't know about the poor start. You're right, this is one of the most unsung performances in T&F.
If we are being honest.... Bolt rarely actually went for his own record.... His 2008 Olympic time would have been untouchable in the 100m if he hadn’t slowed down so much.... Would have been better than 9.58 the year after Imo... In the 200m he was never challenged so He never had the push to go for his record... something tells me if Bolt was in this Race with Blake then He would have smashed his own record to some 19:10 just to win
Imagine how fast boly would have been in 2009 of he didn't rush his start, still the fastest bend ever I think but if he hasn't have rushed it then his final 100m would have been faster than blakes without a doubt
@Everyday Good Vibes that was in 2016 in the Olympics where he wanted to break the 200 m record. I don’t think he was in any form to get anywhere near that record.
Its kind of wild how Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake etc will almost be forgotten by history because Usain Bolt the showman came through and bypassed their achievements. I was on the track team when Gatlin and Powell were dominant and even though their achievements were later tarnished by drugs those were exciting times in sprinting to.
Sometimes the smallest of mistakes can mean the difference between being the fastest ever and being one of the fastest ever. In my eyes, Blake was the best 200m sprinter between 2011 and 2012. His performance at the 2012 London Olympics in the world record 4x100m relay was something out of this world. He ran an epic bend to put Jamaica back in the lead. He absolutely blitzed that bend. He is one of the all time greats.
I have watched that race several times and its just leaves me teary with awe. Blake ran that 3rd split as if though the destiny of mankind depended on his performance on that race.
Don’t forget that bad start gave him adrenaline and the time Usian bolt ran 19.19 he had 0.7 tail wind blame had 0.9 tail wind they also had different conditions they ran bon different tracks aswell
@@choulz5154 Reaction time bolt: 0.133 . Reaction time blake: 0.269 Alot of people forget to subtract. 0.269-0.133=0.136 so bolt started 0.136 faster. The best mathematicians on earth have calculates on this. If the wind was 0 for both, and the height over sea was time was the same for both, and the reaction-time was the same for both, then bolt's time is a tiny bit faster.
"Usain Bolt false-started for the first time in his championship career" Actually he false-started in the semi-finals in Berlin 2009, but that was before the zero-tolerance rule change.
If you technically take all aspects of the race, including the location, the lane, and the wind, Bolt's race in Berlin was still slighty (very slightly!) faster. Now Brussel and Berlin's stadiums are not too different in altitude (34m vs 35m) which here doesn't really change that much on the final result. But the wind and the lane (Blake in lane 7 and Bolt in lane 5) impact on the final result! Now if we take original times (19.19s and 19.26s) here's what we get after adjustement Bolt's 19.19: Lane 5, wind speed -0.3m/s, altitude 35m The corrected time we get is 19.175 seconds Blake's 19.26 Lane 7, wind speed 0.7m/s, altitude 34m Corrected time: 19.32s Here we can see a clear difference after readjustment. But TRP's video emphasizes on Blake's reaction time and how it badly affected him on the overall time. So let's do the same but here removing the reaction time. Bolt's 19.19s race had a reaction time of 0.133s. So 19.19 - 0.133 = 19.06 approx Lane 5, wind speed -0.3m/s, altitude 35m The corrected time we get is 19.045 seconds Blake's 19.26s race had a reaction time of 0.269s. So 19.26 - 0.269 = 18.99 approx Lane 7, wind speed 0.7m/s, altitude 34m Corrected time: 19.05s So as we can see, Bolt's race was still slightly faster! if you wanna check on your own, here's the link:) jmureika.lmu.build/track/wind/200altwind.html Now this doesn't mean I disagree with the video or anything. I fully agree on the fact that yeah if Blake had a better reaction time, no doubt he would have beaten the WR. He's an unbelievable athlete, and I really hope he gets in good shape for the Olympics! Awesome video btw, keep up the work!:)
What must also be factored into all this is the type of events and the amount of races ran and the time of recovery for each race. Bolts 19.19 was done a day after he competed in two days of competition for the 3 100m races and 200 meters races. What if he had just ran one race the 200m finals alone and not rounds.. We have to take all things in perspective when comparing
Also, if u put Bolt’s self when he broke the record and Blake in this race, in the same race, Blake would’ve forced Bolt to run a little faster which would’ve made the WR even faster.
*Yohan* insatiable appetite of over training cost him his career success. After 2011 he began to transform himself literally into a *Bodybuilder* instead of a sprinter. By 2013 he had gotten so top heavy, his tiny legs couldn't carry his speed anymore and thus he suffered two hamstring and tendon injuries that forever robbed him of the *King of Sprinters* title. I've been a fan since his *St. Jago high school* days.... It's so painful to see him struggle nowadays.😭🇯🇲💯
That's an interesting theory because I also have been following him from Jago days. He and Bolt were the only high school stars that actually made it pro successfully and when he beat Usain at the national trials everyone was singing his praises, some were in shock others were saying that it was because he took training seriously while Bolt didn't and it was started to pay off. The same thing they said in Bolt's early career but in truth Bolt was coming off an injury and Blake hit his peak for that season. Notice that he didn't win neither the 100 or 200 at the world championships? Timing in history has alot to do with one's success. Similarly to KD, no matter how great he is he'll never be seen above LeBron. There are levels to everything in life and its not for a lack of effort
The name “the beast” is what really killed his career. He tried to correct this error on his part but the injuries was too much, and still is. it’s the same heavy top effect that killed Powell.
I find it amazing that no one has questioned the accuracy of the times on this race!! Especially as Walter Dix ran a massive PB of 19.53 and he also slowed down before reaching the finishing line.
Hmm I never thought about and I also sorta had it in the back of my mind that they weren’t going that fast. Although at the very least you can’t really say yohan was tying up. That last 100 was pretty smooth. Also can’t people time it again by re watching the video ?
I remember many cried out that the timing was faulty.People forget he's the fastest man in history into a negative wind over 100m at 9.69 and 2nd fastest man in history over 100m.With perfect maximum legal wind of 2.0mps , you have a 9.58 under the wind conversion calculator.
Thank you very much for this break down. I know Yohan Blake was something special from St Jago days, competing against him in Boys and Girls Champs. This guy was so spectacular they had him running 400meters and his times was blistering. I don't recall him losing a single race.
When they talked about his 2nd 100 I thought they were just going to say it was faster than Bolt's 2nd 100. I didn't know it was going to be faster than MJs, MJs 2nd 100 was absolutely insane, Blake was a beast!
You sir RULE. This video is what I would wish for in running videos and commentary. It is thoughtful....and full of interesting observations. Keep it up! And kudos.
@@jermaineallert7261 He's not talking about changing rules, he's talking about the fastest time that 200 meters has been covered from when the athlete starts moving. Yohan is the only human being in history to move 200 meters while running in 19 seconds, that's just a fact. Not talking about him being the WR holder or something.
Darak Eaddy what you said makes no sense . Is he is the 2nd fastest in both 100m and 200m then he is the 2nd best of all time. There is literally no one else
@@---jb2sb that’s not how it works in sprinting. Running a fast time once doesn’t mean much. That’s like saying having a 60pt game once will make you 2nd to MJ only
I've liked him ever since 2012, that year completely made me fall for him. He is my most fav athlete since then and Usain is my 2nd, I'm happy for both of them ♡
I have been watching Blake’s performance from Jamaica Girls & Boys champs days always impressive as to be , must be, because that is where all the best young school boys athletes were being displayed on a National Stage .. Blake lots of respect.thanks for breaking down that particular Race . Truly appreciate it.
Great video bro, very well researched, I appreciate you taking the time to provide the technical breakdown.. I’m Jamaican I have seen booth of them run from high scho9l level..yohan is super super gifted,
Been saying for a long time that Blake actually ran the 200m quicker than Bolt, the amount of people who just couldn't understand the concept of reaction times is staggering.
Does he have the world record for the 200m? No. So he didn't run it quicker did he... It's not a running start and the 200m includes reaction time, therefore he didn't run it quicker. Secondly we have no idea whether he would have ran quicker or not if he reacted quicker because there are too many variables to consider.
The thing which is underrated and helped him a lot here is his low center of gravity which makes him the best in running at curves....see the 2012 london relay final youll see it perfectly there
Blake is phenomenal👍⭐. Still recall the 4×100metres final in London Olympics. The 3rd leg he ran gave Jamaica the Gold medal. The beast in him came out. He went all out for his country in that race. Like BMW 7series. Anytime I watch it, I have goosebumps. Great man, I admire.
Fact: Blake is the fastest man of all time over 200 meters It is merely the format of how we organise modern athletics that prevents him from being officially recognised as such
Track, and field was totally changed when track, and field was changed from yards to meters, and during and before the change it was said no one could come out of the blocks faster than .02 seconds.
It’s fair enough theorising about the reaction time but it would not be fair to not mention that Bolt was tired before his WR. He also never paced himself correctly so his 19.19 could have been much faster, Blake alike.
@Zulqarnayn Nadal lmao. YOU just have to stop making excuses! If we apply your logic and this stupid video's logic to bolt then bolt wouldve ran an even faster time! Crackhead!
You are discounting that the faster reaction time does not necessarily mean the 2nd 100 meters would be the same. So, you cannot put, this great start with this great finish. The race is the race in total.
I agree and I hate when people come up with the "ifs". If Usain Bolt had a fast start, if he gave 100% in every race and if he had a great technique he could've done better. But that's it, "if". Bolt ran 9.69 with a bad start and stopped accelerating in the last 30 meters of the race while pounding on his chest and with one shoelace all over the place. If people would count all the "ifs" we would have a never-ending debate. About the last 100mt, I agree, if he had a better start maybe he wouldn't push as much as he did, who knows?
Right. All you need is bananas and 1000 chicken nuggets helped Usain and Yohan be 1 & 2. I ought to go to Germany in the off season and enjoy my bananas with the boys Ben, Tyson and the legendary Lance.
Blake literally could've beaten Bolt's 200m WR if he just had a decent reaction time of `0.15s. He could've hit a 19.17-16 even though the wind wasn't perfect. Incredible performance.
This is unreal! Maybe for the simple people like us , the history of sprinting could easy understanding after this magnificent interpretation. Thank you !!!
It's interesting as the same thing happened to Michael Johnson in Atlanta when he set the WR at 19.32. He too had an absolutely terrible reaction time coming out of the blocks. I believe he said fear of not being on the podium in his home country motivated him. He was willing to have his hamstring come off the bone at that point. Yikes! Indeed, he immediately large ice packs on during his "victory lap". I've been trying to find that interview to confirm the statement.
I think Blake would easily win the Crossfit games because he’s super athletic and strong. Those Crossfit guys who win are claimed to be the “fittest on earth” but I think Blake is fitter, even by their definition of “fit”.
Justin Mora definitely not. blake has a body specifically for sprinting, doing any other form training not geared for speed would not allow him to be the athlete sprinter he is.as much as i dislike crossfit for various reasons, blake would not be able to win in so many events within a crossfit games.
@@jideajibola5074 Lol what? He has the 2nd best 100m and 200m time. Tyson Gay has the 2nd best 100m (tied with Blake), but like 6th or something (I forget) 200m so I'd say Blake is officially the 2nd best sprinter in history. MJ probably 3rd as he's 3rd in 200, 2nd in 400. Then Tyson Gay, etc, etc.
