Sydney McLaughlin vs Femke Bol will be the most epic event in Paris!!

I've always thought that she has the absolute best running style to watch hands down. She strides effortlessly and never looks like she's fighting the air

I was fortunate to be there to witness Sydney's incredible world record at the 2022 World Championships - the energy that rippled through the crowd was indescribable - collective awe. She left everything on the track and didn't get up for about 5 minutes. Truly sensational, I'll never forget it.

Sub 50 for the 400 meter hurdles will be a record that rivals Bolt’s 100 meter record.

She is in my view the best 400 hurdler I have ever seen. This was my race in college and I know how gassed you can be in the final quarter of this race. She is amazing!

I would have preferred that she wrote a new story in the open 400 and have both gold medals in different games ... but it will certainly be a great show to see Femke bol against McLaughlins. My ultimate dream it will be for her to run both events

Another event where I want multiple people to win. Love Sydney and Femke.

From a marketing standpoint I say she stay with the 400mH and win another Olympic gold medal in that; your world record can be broken, but your Olympic title is forever. After the 2024 Olympics she can concentrate on the open 400m for the rest of the season, maybe mix up some 400mH with open 400m (and a few 200m?) in early 2025 to see what she can do in the 400m. Stay with the 400mh in the 2025 World Champs then use 2026 to concentrate on the 400m and see how far she can drop her PR., maybe switch to the open 400M for the 2027 WC and 2028 Olympics.

Such a shame that Dalilah due to injuries & age was never able to improve her 51.58 PB from Tokyo '21 :( Would've been amazing for the event if the 34yr old was 10yrs younger competing against the 24yr old Syd & Femke! 🤞 she makes her final Olympic 400mH Team @Trials & hopefully the podium in Paris. 5:38; Femke's 49.17 is her indoor PB/WR, her current outdoor 400m PB is 49.44.

Her 400m Hurdle WR is better than half the fields 400m PB's.

So glad to hear that Sydney will compete again in the 400 m hurdles. I'm looking forward to her against Femke Bol. It is going to be epic. 🙂😀

Idk if Sidney's 48.74 gives her the edge too much, Femke's 49.17 was run indoors. Im sure if she ran the 400m outdoors she'd also go 48.

It’s really interesting (and entertaining lol) to read everyone’s comments about Sydney vs Femke (Bol)!!! No doubt about it, Sydney was phenomenal in 2020-2023 before she was injured! Although she has announced that she’ll be competing in the 400h, that’s no guarantee that she will run the 400h in Paris…she’s leaving her options open. It’s nearly certain that she WON’T run in both the 400m & the 400h since it would tire her out considerably and reduce her chances of a gold medal in either. I like one person’s comment that Sydney might try to get a gold medal in the 400m in order to distinguish her as the only athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in both events even if it’s in different Olympic games. Regarding those that have stated that Sydney is basically a sure thing to take gold in Paris for the 400h…you better think twice! I’d give Femke Bol 50-50 odds of beating Sydney for the following reasons: 1. Femke is a few months younger that Sydney and hasn’t reached her peak yet. 2. She started running the 400h at an older age than Sydney and is still improving her technique (just recently running 14 steps per hurdle instead of 15) 3. Femke has also been improving her speed & stamina (she set and twice broke her own indoor record in the 400m 49.16) 4. Femke is lazer-focused on only running while Sydney has been distracted writing & promoting her new book, designing and promoting her line of New Balance running attire, and making speaking engagements & talk show appearances. 5. Femke has been consistently injury free while Sydney missed most of the 2023 outdoor season and is understandably rusty. Both women are incredible athletes, as well as human beings, and it will be awesome to see them compete in Paris!

looking forward to any race she is in tbh, hopefully shes fighting fit and over the injury, like u say theres bound to be a little race rust to bang off but im confident shes gonna bring it, it wouldnt surprise me if rumours started floating around about the double now that would be something else

U people talk like it is a forgone conclusion that She wins the Olympic 400m Hurdles a certain Dutch Woman will have something to say about that she has improved vastly in the last 2 years Bol she will b ready remember she broke the Indoor 400m World Record that had stood since the 1980s it will take probably a World Record to win the final or close to it

She is the best to ever do it!

It is hard to say what will happen as we never see Sydney. Bol will be under 51 very probably. Sydney will be as well if she is back to her best. When they met previously Bol had more room for improvement as she started her career and the hurdling much later. 400m PBs can also not be separated despite what you are suggesting. Sydney had 1 season of focusing on 400m flat. Bol had zero. She would easily run under 49 if she did. She even almost did so indoors.

one thing about Bol is that she never ran a 400 meter flat (outdoor) while not being in intense training meanwhile, the PB you show in this video is het indoor PB and WR. normally everyone runs significantly faster outdoor, but since Bol never ran it while well rested i believe its safe to say her outdoor PB would also be under 49 if she ever did run it well rested. i say this because her indoor PB is already 0.17 sec away from a 48 seconds 400m flat. so my conclusion is that its not really an edge like you say for mclaughlin over bol, cuz if you reason like that you could also make a list of indoor 400 meters and their outdoor 400 meter hurdles list, in that case bol would have a huge edge on the competition. unless im wrong in saying an indoor PB of 49,17 would for sure mean a sub 49 outdoor.

Sydney vs Femke will be huge. Obviously Sydney is the favorite, but I definitely think Femke can beat her. I think you have to be careful about assumptions that Sydney will be faster than ever this year, and that Femke will not have improved over last year. Bol seems like such a hard worker, that she will again obtain a whole new level this year. Which puts her probably at sub 51 in 2024. She also was never pushed in 2023 the way she will be in the Olympics. McLaughlin will need yet another stunning jaw-dropping improvement to beat Bol. I am going predict right now, if they are both in the final it will take a world record to win gold.

I was reading some of the banter going on here between people who think they are experts and are just about bashing each other to prove their point. The great thing is Nobody knows who is going to win which makes it all the more worth while the wait, increases the suspense and excitement in anticipation of the match. If we knew who was going to win, nobody would be interested in watching the race.

You must stay sharp..its going to be a huge challenge for her this olympics. I'm pulling for her , but I csn forsee her getting 2nd to Bol. When u don't race you can put yourself a risk for injury or being off a bit

I saw the 2022 race. It was epic! I think its a shame that we do not see the track and field athletes better covered over the years. I would rather see though how close to the WR she can get at the 400 meters. Due to the absence i think she will be struggling to beat Fenke Bol. I cant see here coming close to her WR time. Maybe if she is lucky its still good enough to win Gold.

If Femke Bol can run 49.2 indoors then she definitely has sub 49 speed outdoors to rival McLaughlin's 48.7

In Europe, Femke Bol is considered the person to beat. Consider, however, Syd has been dominant for going on five years in the open and hurdles. Phenomenal. She obviously is not getting back in unless she thinks she can win. Would be epic to see McLaughlin, Bol, and Muhammad on the track in the final.

Trust me, she knows something you don't. She's going to break the world record in the 400 and in the hurdles. She's putting down times in practice that are game changers.

I love it. She took time off to work on increasing her flat speed now she will be able to re-work that into the hurdles. You know you can’t just increase your speed incrementally in hurdles without messing up your step timing and reworking that. I think this has been the plan all along… world record breaking 400 m hurdles and beating Bol at the Olympics.

That's where Mclaughlin suppose to be I DONT KNOW WHO WOULD ADVISE HER NOT TO GET MORE TITLES in 400m hurdles for that would make it so hard for someone els to surpass her ... ... remember it's not world record alone which make you great ... ... and femke bol is on the big jump level.

This may sound counter intuitive, but Sydney running faster times in the 400m flat, doesn't necessarily indicate that her flat speed has increased or that it will transfer to the hurdles. Obviously her average speed over the course of one lap has increased, but improving 400m flat times doesn't just come from increased flat speed, it's also a question of experience and knowing how much effort to exert at every point in the race to achieve your best time. I'm not suggesting that her flat speed hasn't improved, just saying that we can't just assume that it has. Then there is the question of transferring that speed to the hurdles. Yes, in almost all cases improving flat speed will improve hurdle times as well, but we also need to take into account that Sydney had not run flats for years before last season, whereas she is a master of the hurdles. If Sydney is going to be able to use any gains in flat speed in the hurdles, it will require either improved technique, improved fitness or just more effort. Most people seem to think her hurdles technique is already fairly flawless and it seems unlikely that there is more effort to give, which leaves improved fitness, which may well be a possibility. At the age of 24, it is unlikely that she has reached the best level of fitness that she has the potential to reach in her lifetime, but injuries can lower that potential and certainly make it more difficult to achieve. Whatever happens a healthy Sydney will be almost impossible to beat in the hurdles and a more experienced Sydney would probably be equally difficult to beat on the flat.

MEH. I have high hopes for Britton Wilson (depending on what she runs). This is all interesting because the talk out of SYD's camp once was that the 400mh was behind her, and she was off to conquer new distances. Edwin Moses dominated 400mh. almost 10yrs undefeated. I'm not putting SYD in that camp, yet. I'm looking fwd to USAs.

I'm American and I already biased and I only cheered and routed for my own country USA!!! Sydney has competed the 4×100m dash called Formula Kersee and received second 🥈 place with the top seed international ( three were NCAA champions except for Dina Asher Smith: names were Julien Alfred, Ireland and Jamaican sprinters) and Formula Keree's team time was 12:93 to 12:03 so if she is ready to compete now for the 400m dash and 400m hurdles than her coaches, doctors and support team of family and friends think 🤔 that she is READY to punch her ticket to Park for the Olympics and represent USA and injury is no joke; she must be injury free: little Muhammad was injured and had COVID-19 and she is making progress also so US track and field trials are going to be INSANE and I can't wait but Los Angeles is just another practice to begin her quest for the Paris Olympics and she is probably working on consistency and being injured free (healthy) and I don't think 🤔 that she would be doing her best time yet: I think 🤔 that it is gradual! Though I think McLaughlin will come out on top in hurdles in Paris it’s not a given to beat Bol who has improved significantly since they last met. Sydney’s chances would be better in 400m flat with no Femke.

Break 50 in the 400mH this year, then I want to see what kind of 800m and 1500m times she could run, maybe a 3000m steeplechase. Sydney looks like she could be a finalist and challenge records in all of these events - that would really make her a legendary runner.

Her return to the 400h is great news, but her current time during training is a mystery. Sure hope she can win the gold and shave a bit off her own world record. Go, Sydney!

Keep in mind that her 400 time isn’t even her in peak form. She only really ran a 300 and coasted the last 100. She’s got a lot left to give to this event.

This proves my theory that depending in how flawless your hurdles technique is, your 400 flat time will be an average 1.8seconds quicker than your hurdles time. If Femke really is in the shape people are hyping her to be in, then could she break 50.68? I don't know

Bol doesn’t have an outdoor 400 flat record, the 49,17 is indoor. So if you compare, do it right.

I wonder if she's just using it to build up even more strength for a full-on push at the 400m world record? Or maybe to see who can push her to a 400m hurdle record that will be untouchable for decades. I had imagined she would go for the 400m flat at Olympics, then go for the world record at World's in 2025. No one that I know of has ever dominated both events, much less hold the record for both. 24.... TWENTY FOUR........ 20 FREAKIN' 4............... It's 2024. She's 24. Twenty four. Olympic gold - 400m Hurdles 2024 Olympic gold - 400m 2028 World's in-between and beyond in either discipline. 24+24=48 seconds flat...

If she can somehow hit a new WR, she will be one of very few athletes in running sports to break a WR in a discipline 3 times consecutively. The think is, she has set such a ludicrous bar for herself it may never happen. 50.68 is really that incredible. I think on a perfect day while hitting peak at the peak of her career, she could run a ~50.25 400m hurdle, but who knows? I didn't think it was possible for her to go from 51s directly to the WR either. Will she somehow blow all our minds again and break 50 in a 400m hurdles? I doubt it, but its sure exciting not knowing what she is capable of...

Syd did ....at barely 20yo in 2019....a 52.23, not 52.32. Dalilah only held her off by 0.07 and was lucky she was stll with Joanna instead of Bobby; he would've coached her to put the hammer down sooner.

Mclaughlin v Bol is definitely the star. However, I believe there are a few sleepers that need to be watched. Shamier Little is probably the most dangerous.

I am more interested in how Sydney is running in 2024, not a few years ago. Will she run the hurdles or 400 meters race in 2024 Olympics ? And will she and Bol run the same race ?

Sydney McLaughlin appears to be head and shoulders above Femke Bol in terms of performance but the gap maybe a lot closer than many people think.
