Transcript
In the Age of Starbirth, the forging god Reorx struck his hammer amidst chaos to form Krynn, the sparks from his hammer became the stars.
Dragons were made from the elements and encased in frames of metal. The Dark Queen corrupted them, tarnishing their metals. In response, Reorx forges five monuments to the lost dragons from precious metals for Paladine, who breathes life into them. Thus began the All-Dragons War. The High God returned from the Beyond and ended the war, sending the Gods to their astral planes, demanding that they leave the universe created alone.
The stars from Reorx were alive with spirit and became known as the children of the gods. The Gods began vying for control over these spirits. The gods of the pillar of evil wanted to enslave these spirits. The gods of the pillar of good wanted to nurture the spirits to righteousness, and the gods of the pillar of neutrality wanted the spirits to have the freedom to determine their own fate. This was the beginning of the All-Saints War.
The High God returned from the Beyond once again and demanded an end to the war. He allowed the gods to bestow one gift upon these spirits from each pillar. The Gods of the pillar of good gave the spirits life and physical form. The gods of the pillar of evil gave the spirits hunger and thirst. And the gods of the pillar of neutrality gave the spirits free will, to preserve the balance. Different races were created from these spirits and were placed on the planet of Krynn.
The gods of the pillars of Good created Elves as the shapers of the world. The gods of the pillar of neutrality created humans. They were coveted by the good and evil gods, but had free will to make their own decisions. The gods of the pillar of evil created the race of ogres. They were the most beautiful of the races, but were consumed by their hunger. The High God created the animals, born of the world itself which spans the balance of Good, Neutrality and Evil. Dragons are deemed the lords of the animal kingdom.
In the Age of Dreams, the Ogres claimed the mountains, The elves chose the forests and humans claimed the plains. The Ogres enslaved humans to form the mighty nation of cold stone while the elves watched. Reorx calls out to humans to join him in the northern lands for assistance in his labors. Humans rebel against their slavers and barbarism reigns as the ogres are corrupted.
The elves found the nation of Silvanos, but her forests have already been claimed by dragons. The elves convene the first Sinthel-Elish, elven high council, and prepare for war. Reorx grows distressed by the humans' haughtiness and creates Gnomes, natural tinkers, from them. The first dragon war ends after the gods of magic assist the elves by crafting five magical stones. The elves hide them in the Khalkist Mountains after the fiercely won victory. The trickster god Hiddukel, convinced Reorx to forge the Graystone, who accidentally traps chaos within, and places it on the moon of Lunitari.
The elves create their civilization after the now ancient and fallen Ogre nation. Hiddukel tricks a Gnome to travel to Lunitari to claim the Graystone, who loses it and unleashes its chaos on Krynn. Reorx demands Gnomes recapture the Greystone and wild magic falls into the hands of some humans who become Scions.
Gargath, a human barbarian prince, captures the Graystone, binding it between two god-gems. The gnomes, joined by the elves, demand its return, while Gargath recruits ogres to help defend his prize. When the stone is freed, it corrupts those present, changing their forms to reflect their natures. Hence Goblins, minotaurs, kender, sea elves and dwarves, amongst others are born. In the chaos, the Graystone is lost. With the evolution of the races on Krynn complete (There would be future temperament changes to different species), we can now focus on the races themselves.
Humans being one of the three original races, and favored by the neutral gods, you can imagine the pure diversity represented by them in size, demeanor, pursuits and motivations. Since they have shorter life spans, they tend to be more ambitious and impatient, restless and dissatisfied...

My wife has a tendency to get up from the table randomly and wander the apartment, usually cooking for the group, or wandering off to parts unknown. For this reason, we often insist she play a Kender, simply so it is easier to explain her sudden and frequent real world absences in-game. She doesn't mind. She prefers playing rogues, anyway. As for me, I love a well-rolled dwarven fighter.

I remember there was a rumor about Noble Draconians as well. It was a time when the Dragon Highlords ran out of Good Dragon eggs, so they had to resort to Evil Dragon Eggs. Quite a few of the Evil Dragons didn't like that idea at all. But the result of corrupting evil dragons resulted in Noble Draconians, which was a complete disaster. Most Noble Draconians were killed, but it was rumored that a few of each survived. Noble Draconians may be found with regular Draconians, but usually they prefer to be around the Good Dragons. At first glance, many people unfamiliar with Noble Draconians would view them as evil, but it was not the case. Perhaps, Paladine saved their race from total extinction?

there are two types of sea elves: the Dimernesti and the Dargonesti. the shallows dwellers and the deep sea dwellers. Also, They did the ritual of corruption on the chromatic dragon eggs when they ran out of metallics...and got chromatic draconians. they were the opposite of evil dragons. Good hearted, kind, and helpful.

@@DLSaga I've been wanting to read some of the older books on the elves history like The Kinslayer Wars. Do you recommend any? Or any Dragonlance solo books? (read most of the main series). I read the Dragonships of Vindras series, and while I thought Bones of the Dragon was an amazing thrilling start the rest of the series felt lacking to me. I also read Dezra's Quest many years ago, great book, I heard another in that series was good with Riverwind I think.

I appreciate the DL version of the Ogre's downfall. They are simply part of The Ordening (I think that is the correct term) in Ferun and most campaigns. This makes their current state that much more shocking.

I feel there one of these points is incorrect - I actually was one of the people that updated the dragonlance lexicon (I specialized in the high ogres) and the minotaurs were actually made by sargonnas from the high ogres - the few he took with him to reflect his own persona. This is detailed in the minotaur trilogy/fire rose trilogy with golgren - some of the last books in dragonlance. So Not by chaos. This video may have been made before that book was out though, so I'll forgive you that oversight :P
@DLSaga
@DLSaga 2 года назад
I research from AD&D to 3e. There are so many changes in history and origin that I am not ever surprised when anyone contests my research. Thank you for clarifying that.
@Chronamut
@Chronamut 2 года назад
@@DLSaga not a problem! Yes there is a snippet in dragonlance where golgren is in a cave and he sees a mural of the higher ogres trying to escape the curse that degenerated them into ogres, and sargonnas takes them and slowly morphs their features to reflect his likeness, well, one of his likenesses anyways. And thus primarily the minotaurs worship sargonnas, keeping them in the evil pantheon., as well as the god of greed, keeping them more or less aligned with their evil high ogre counterparts, along with their mentality that they are meant to rule the world. And don't worry, I have read every entry on the high ogres that exists. For instance there are still non-cursed high ogres that exist on the landmass beside ansalon, which is rarely ever mentioned. They have an entire city.
@Chronamut
@Chronamut 2 года назад
@@DLSaga One more thing - the high ogres didn't simply degenerate into ogres - they were cursed by the evil ogres to reflect the darkness within without through successive generations because of their failure to stop ingrams betrayal of their teachings and allowing humans free will and the eventual uprising of the humans against the high ogres. The irda were the ones under igram who escaped the wrath of the other high ogres and were given a realm to themselves, and given gifts fro mthe gods of good to keep them isolated, and to want to remain isolated from the rest of ansalon, and the ability to shapeshift to hide their identity, for there is a prediction that the high ogres wil lone day return, and try to take over the world, which does happen in the very last book in the dragonlance series before wotc prevented any new books from being made. The evil high ogres could slow down the curse, but it involved killing any high ogres that were born with deformities thus extremely limiting their numbers (They were known at the nzunta). They prayed to the gods to help them with their deformities and sirrion gifted then with the fire rose which had control over creation but the greed formed over it doomed the rest of their race which is why they basically went extinct. The chaos war is meant to have essentially wiped the irda out and destroyed the race completely, save for any who may have been out wandering at the time. At the end of the series golgren is told that he is the first chance for his race's redemption in centuries and that with work maybe they can restore themselves - it is thus hinted that even the irda eventually failed due to their inner nature and the gods wanted to see the ogres redeem themselves on their own. You can see my entry on the lexicon as well as a picture of a high ogre I drew here: dragonlance.fandom.com/wiki/High_Ogre
@-Keith-
@-Keith- Год назад
Came here to see if someone pointed out this comment - the minotaurs worship the evil god Sargonnas, and while they do hold a great deal of respect for the knights of Solamnia due to their well known code of honor and ferocity in battle, it's extremely unlikely for them to be in the company of said knights due to that fact alone. Unless something changed since the chaos war, aside from rare circumstances (Huma and Kaz, etc), most knights of Solamnia wouldn't want anything to do with a minotaur.

With recent DnD 5e published campaign setting and adventure for Dragonlance, I wonder if it is possible to play non traditional races that were brought by different settings, like genasi, warforged, tabaxi, tortle, etc. I know I could always homebrew their existence or say the PC of that races comes from different world. What I was wondering is, if there is a lore in Dragonlance Saga that could support existence of these kinds of races?

With the connection of Spelljammer in 2e and the reference in DLA in 1e about visitors from other worlds, it is absolutely possible in lore, though it is incredibly rare and they would be seen as alien. Irda are a real challenge to play (almost impossible) due to their strict non-violence approach. They abhore violence and will only defend themself with physical combat if all other avenues failed. And even then, they will undergo a cleansing ritual afterwards to cleanse themself of the stench of having resorted to violence. Incredible powerful magic-users and shapeshifters, though, which makes them a challenge, yet rewarding to play. Minotaurs are the most fun to play. Favorite character I played was a Barbarian/Druid Minotaur multiclass in 3.5. Also he could not read, as barbarians are illaterate and my reason for him not learning reading and writing was, that when he trained as druid, his teachers _tried_ to teach him to read and write, but due to his low intelligence he could not understand it, and when pushed, went into rage until they finally gave up. Believe it or not, the disability actually saved his life once because when adventuring he came across some magical runes writen on the wall and shrugged them off as just gibberish he couldn't understand anyway, so he moved past them. When the next player reached to runes, he tried to read them and they exploded in his face :D

2:50 - Evil destroys; it doesn't create. The race of ogres were seduced by Takhisis, using the Sword of Tears, later used by Huma to slay Wyrmfather (Heroes, Vol.1). The ogres degenerated into their present forms, save for the Irda, who resisted the corruption, and the Nzunta, who cull any of their kind born with bestial ogre traits. 4:04 - _"No, lad, it was Morgion,"_ god of disease, decay, and entropy, not Hiddukel. This was confirmed in Tales, Vol 1, by the avatar of Reorx himself. 9:41 - Gully Dwarves first appeared in one of the AD&D monster manuals, intended for the Forgotten Realms, but were easily integrated into DragonLance for comic relief. They were indeed outcast by both dwarves and gnomes, but their life of squalor is due to their pathetically low intelligence, so low that a gully dwarf who can count and comprehend beyond the number three is considered a genius. Most evil races and nations won't even bother to enslave them, considering them too stupid for any kind of competent service. I'm still waiting on a full analysis from A.J. Pickett on the subject of gully dwarves. He seems reluctant to say the least. This is all from memory, by the way-- before the great retcon of 3e.
