Hi. It's 2023. You can actually put the title of the game in the video's title. We ALREADY know it's Ridge Racer and Rage Racer and NOBODY forgot about it. I still play it.
Getting the DLC for RR7 requires jailbreaking your PS3, it's the easiest thing to do but takes hours to set it up properly. Yes, RR7 had DLC before it was taken down (USA wise). Also you didn't mention Supercruiser in the Music for RR7?! Something is wrong with you! It's the best music in the game! I'm not joking it's so good!
@@judahsoremy9857 I just got done downloading all the DLC for RR7 for my now jailbroken PS3. I am SO disappointed in the NET music selection compared to RR6 for the 360.
I'm extremely surprised Namco hasn't tried to chash in on the Ridge Racer again. Especially since Tekken 7 did so good, as well as Ace Combat. I really hope this franchise comes back at some point.
I hope not tbh. I don't want another Ridge Racer that has majority of the content locked behind a DLC paywall like the one on Vita. Also, arcade racing simply is a dying game genre, and Japanese business is known to really hate even a tiny bit of risk for loss. With games like Forza Horizon around, I don't think BN would even bother to compete.
@@Akira-kd6us Not really. If Ace Combat, Tekken can, then Ridge Racer can. Forza, I doubt it if that’s arcade. Surely the drift is good and almost realistic but not as satisfying as Ridge Racer. RR needs a consistent dev team like Project Aces in Ace Combat to keep the game on track. There was dispute of PA and Bana, but they did build Ace Combat 7 with highest copy sales in series.
Ridge Racer Revolution has such a great soundtrack. If I recall, I think it was even possible to insert the disc and being able to playback the tracks that were in the game. It was a great time figuring this stuff out!
Have to say, that the Calm OST seems like something that could be in a Gran Turismo game, will say from the looks of it Ridge Racer is really leaning into ''Arcade'' Arcade if that makes sense, not for me but nice to have learned of yet another game. Cheers.
Same. It’s a blessing that it embraces 1999 so much as it is a soundtrack that speaks in 90s so hard I can smell my bottle of milk warming up in the microwave still xD
Its a shame RR got abandoned but when you trying to compete in a dimishing market in arcade racing against NFS, GT , Forza, and Burnout, its hard to stick out
Guess what it happened again this time with project cars bc of middling reception and poor sales of the third game and launch 2 months after disastrous fast and furious crossroads so we don't know what slightly mad studios have up to after project cars 3 Edit: nvm they been bought by codemasters before ea bought code masters can Bandai Namco bring back ridge racer after project cars series is dead
Ridge Racer was such underrated arcade racing genre The amazing environment of tracks, really crazy looking machine with special sponsor based from Namco games, and ofc a lot amount of amazing soundtrack from many amazing composer from Namco Sound Team, one of my fav composer is Kohta Takahashi Such sad this game series was ended with "Slipstream", at least I still can enjoy in game call "Drift Spirits", that actually made by same developer, Namco itself!
Have to agree with the other comment here. Ridge Racer was never underrated. It was a massive series in the arcades and a big part of the Playstation success
*Points at the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series that they making that have similar physics as Ridge Racer but it's mostly in the arcade in Japan and Round1 locations*
The soundtrack, the drifting, the cars , the courses and scenery and the action movie driving physics. This game was peak arcade racing and I miss it something awful. It was a different kind of fun that no other racing series has brought me. Namco would have my whole wallet in a chokehold if they release Ridge Racer 8
I'm mad that Ridge Racer is consider an abandoned series. First introduced to the series thanks to RR6's demo on the Xbox 360 racing on Harbor line 765. RR7 built upon that with good customization. Also what sucks is that even the director of Tekken, Harada-san is also upset too cause Bandai dismantled the team awhile ago.
R4 is still a gem to this day. The series was my go-to arcade racer in my elementary days and it's been too long since the last title. I miss it. It almost feels like I'm mourning someone who died.
A technique I find helpful in Ridge Racer is to always keep to the centre of the road, even during the corners. Drifting in this game works with no loss of momentum and speed, so un-learning the racing line is essential.
FYI, online battle still raging in Japan. You need some friends from Japan because the room is locked, preventing rammers entering sessions. Fatalita, Totoofficial, those two are streaming RR7 online battles.
I hope Namco made a Ridge Racer Type 4 Remake, 7 Remastered or New Ridge Racer. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Ridge Racer. If did Klonoa, Pac-Man, Baten Kaitos, Why not Ridge Racer?
It's weird how they got Bugbear to do Unbounded, they made the crazy Flatout games all about destruction and chaos, while Unbounded wasn't bad at all it just didn't feel like Ridge Racer It felt like another Flatout game which it should've been one.
Some important details that could've been included in the video. The catastrophic Ridge Racer Unbounded situation was caused by the fact that the game wasn't even meant to be a Ridge Racer in the the first place. The devs behind RRU, which already had a lot of experience in making great fast-paced action racing games(Bugbear Entertainment) were looking for a publisher for their new unnamed racing game project, that's where Namco comes in and tells them to turn their already almost ready game into a Ridge Racer game. Definitely poor idea to start with and the fact that the devs probably didn't had much time to shift the whole theme of the game into a proper ridge racer ended up in a disaster. It also didn't helped that at that time, other titles were also trying to jump onto "Burnout Paradise" train (Split Second and Blur). It could have been a better release under different title. In the end, it ended up bad for both Namco and Bugbear, which almost went bankrupt.
The unnamed game was called 'Crash Club', unbounded was what was left of the cancelled game. Also Split/Second and Blur are as far as you can get from Burnout Paradise of all games
Split Second and Blur have their own style, doesn't tried to copy Burnout, Bugbear doesn't get bankrupt since during 2013-2014 they announced Next Car Game prototype which turned into Wreckfest in 2018.
@@Enders1 Actually, RRU was originally going to be another seperate IP. Crash Club was a different project that got cancelled according to the devs that I have contacted.
They basically knew that game was gonna be shit in sales and they thought that putting Ridge Racer as the title would help to increase the sales but at the end it just damaged the franchise, very bad move from Namco.
I swear I’ll eventually make a retrospective on the series and dive headfirst into everything each game in the series has to offer. This series is criminally underrated.
Ridge Racer also popular because Namco pushed the graphics and framerate into max for this franchise in every console. For distance, Ridge Racer 7 released as launch title on PS3 and it runs 1080P at 60FPS! At that time, none of the launch titles on the PS3 ran on resolution and framerate like RR7.
Looking at how notorious Bandai Namco currently kills any hope for a Ridge Racer 8 now-I thought IDOLM@STER was the culprit in the first place, yet seeing how va-liv virtual idol goes cleared my mind. Tales RPG, Ridge Racer, Mr Driller...guess how many Namco titles faded after the merge.
I wouldn’t actually count Ridge Racer 8 out completely since Namco is putting older games on the PS Plus service now, apparently trying to test to see if there’s still any interest from players before a legit comeback which it needs. And yes I’ve been wishing for years they would localize the Idolm@ster series. I mean they only fairly recently started putting the music albums on digital platforms worldwide, so maybe these are signs of things to come.
@@MGSDude01 Probably impossible for any IM@S game reaching Western market. If I recall correctly, there are laws restricting underage idols-e.g. Kaho Komiya, who appeared in Starlit Season is literally elementary school student, I'm afraid there's no hope.
Honestly in the online focused games as a service market of today, Ridge Racer which was always fun to play in short stints because of its arcade roots could feel right at home. Gran Turismo today is mostly online racing focused anyway, the new career mode in GT7 just lost the old magic 😂
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi sequel is announced 16 years after BT3(2007), and so, I think that it's still possible for Ridge Racer to get a sequel after 17 years. Just make it happen, Bandai Namco.
Man, Ridge Racer is fun. I love arcade racers. I started with RRDS. Then much more recently, I got Ridge Racer PSP, Ridge Racer 1, and V. I think I like PSP the most.
My first ever experience with this series was through a java game funnily enough, this is the only reason why I know about it. While I may not have been able to play the main titles, it is quite an interesting game overall. It's always a pleasure hearing more about obscure games likes this, great video as always Dove! Keep up the good work! 😉
My first experience was finding the soundtrack to rrt4 on RU-vid via algorithm recommendation, and i was like "damn this is amazing i gotta try the game" and i tried it on duckstation and it was incredibly fun and i became obsessed with it since
Oh Ridge Racer... I Miss You... I hope we eventually get a new entry to this franchise.. Funniest racing series of all time... Damn it just saddens me so much how Namco just had to just fuck it all up... Mismanaged andUnbounded is not a Ridge Racer game and shall never be recognized as one.. Regards, huge fan of Ridge Racer
people always talk about f zero and wipeout when it comes to futuristic racing, because of gravity, but my favorite taste as always been ridge racer, for being the perfect balance between reality and fiction.
It's funny that with Gran Turismo 7 horrible cafe menu system and a bare bones career mode with a heavy focus on online only racing to survive, the original arcade franchises like Ridge Racer that were criticized for lacking deep carreer/story modes suddenly would feel right at home in 2023 with the quick plug and play nature of online racing and shorter gaming sessions in general. I am not sure if racing games have regressed or if the modern online and games as a service market feels like it would fit Ridge Racer more
The two PSP titles were amazing, rather short races, but always fun and great for taking thwt tiny thing with you on the... Well, we all know what I mean...
Once i discovered the whole RR era was due to playing the PSP first game. The soundtracks (original, remastered and remixes) are totally great to hear, it was fun finishing the Ridge Racers PSP version (even if i almost broken the X and square button because of these MAX CUP lol) Today, i stills making collection of these games and mostly the soundtracks from the first Ridge Racer to their Anniversary versions. All bangers and worth the time to listen it 🎧🎶🎛️ Thank you Namco for making these masterpieces.
Man, I loved RR so much. I played from the PS1 upwards - I loved the overrall design/menu music/soundtracks, it was absolutely phenomenal game. I remember playing type 4 and it just felt so ahead of it's time, the tracks were so quirky! I smashed the heck out of 1 & 2 on the PSP and loved RR7 on the PS3
R4 was phenomenal and beautiful work for the transition to y2k. R7 runs so well for such an early ps3 title, 1080p 60 fps (I mean it’s a racing game so not much is happening right?) R4’s Grand Prix mode was so fun for each team and the epilogue music is so nostalgic and memorable characters and story.
Damn I LOVED RR7 at ps3 launch! When I got my 360 I picked up 6 and enjoyed it too. I’d love for a remaster collection to come out with all the games and soundtracks!
First RR game for me was Ridge Racer (OG). Favorite soundtrack is a toss up between RRV and R4. I know a lot of people fanboi over R4 because it's great (Pearl Blue Soul and Move Me...oh la la!) but RRV was so 2000's and an entire jam. Even the Official Bootleg + DVD remixes (I have it, unopened...don't think i'll ever open it lol). RRV is the last soundtrack that's full of bangers. From 6 and beyond, personally, there's good ones here and there but I don't love the entire soundtracks. Favorite gameplay goes to RRV, then Ridge Racer 7. Rage Racer was a complete game changer though. For it's gameplay, the opening cinematics, the "story"/prologue, the looks, the car mechanics, and Okubo getting on board added dynamic and a positive change for the series.
This was the first playstation game i played and i was rly impressed from the GRAPHICS to the old Times... Today u laugh Hard but that Was other Times were the first 3d Title comes out...Nintendo64 too.
I love those techno music as BGM .. Namco brought my childhood to techno party 🤣😂 .. I saved the pocket money from my parents to buy those CD sound track.
RR4 loved the sound track and the level design. RR7 is by far my favorite game I've ever played and racing online is amaaaaaazing! ( def111 😅 ) If they are going to start RR again they should study RR7 and start from there. 👌
Man the best generations of PS was PS2 and PS3 era. The games were fun, innovative and as a bonus Sony wasn't scared to put hot women in their games. Now, it's all just cringe, recycled, overhyped nonsense every game
IIRC namco abandoned the series due to it not being more commercially viable, a bit like capcom abandoned megaman for a while. we can hope that they'd release a new game which is as good as R4.
I always think of how much of a missed opportunity it was not bringing this back to the Switch. The Switch is in desperate need of a racing game (without karts), and it would sell like hotcakes. The competition of the past has gone. I would at least want for them to test things out with an R4 remake.
As a huge fan of Ridge Racer since the first game on PS1, I will say that Ridge Racer 5 was the turning point in the series. R5 really changed up the whole feel of the game, all the cars felt more like a drift car, where before a grip car had nice grip and a drift car didn't. One thing you failed to talk about is the announcer. The series kept getting better and better with the DJ announcer. Yeah the series has some great sound tracks for sure. Also Ridge Racer on the PSP is really good. I tend to keep that game in my PSP for a few laps when I don't feel like hooking up the PS1.
My first one was Rage racer (a little spin off of Ridge Racer in ps1) Also don't forget that Namco make too the "Wangan Midnight" games but arcade only, at least the closer things of Japan highways that we had was Tokyo Xtreme racer series by genki, and also PROJECT CARS Sadly that Namco games prefers rpgs (monster hunter) and fighting games like tekken and dragon ball, (at least still have gundam)
Most of my experience with the series is in RR Type 4, amazing stuff and i was lucky to get it as one of my first few racing games on the PS1 alongside stuff like Gran Turismo 2 and Nascar Rumble
I remember going to my mums friends place and her husband was playing ridge racer. That was the first time I saw the original playstation and he let me play it. So good.
Huh, i didn't really know all that much about the later Ridge Racer games, Cool video! P.S. Trust me bro, those cutscenes were ESSENTIAL to the R:Racing story
I had the one for 3DS. I originally bought it under the assumption it would be something like NFS. I had a hard time getting use to the drifting and at first, I was annoyed by the voice over, but ended up keeping it on because it added something and made the game feel less empty. Eventually, I got very acquainted with the controls and beat the game, also unlocking the bonus cars although they gave me a run for my money. And if you wanna talk RR bangers, Move Me, Stream of Lights, and Phantasize were my go tos on that game. I lost it some time ago unfortunately. But man, what a first impression to a franchise I've never played before.
I don't play Racing games that much, but Ridge Racer 5 (along with Gran Turismo 2) is still my favorite racing game after all these years. However, it is the only game in the franchise i have played. I'm considering getting RR6 and 7 though.
RR peaked with R4 IMO. R4 was, and still is a great game. Such a cool theme to that game, still feels fresh today I think. Other than "REAL RACING ROOTS 99 IN!" lol...
All bangers and worth the time to listen it 🎧🎶🎛️ Thanks Namco for making these masterpieces.
Oh man, you really made me want to buy Ridge Racer 7 just to make my little child self happy I have such good memories playing Ridge Racer 2 when i was like 6 or 8
Guess what it happened again this time with project cars series and third project cars game was a disaster after slightly mad worked on the even worse fast and furious crossroads
Still hoping for a sequel of R Evo, and RR8. Both should get better gameplay in their respective genre + a better Ace Combat style plot + the same kinda PLOT! good video man, got me nostalgic
the battle system used in R: Racing Evolution an easier version of the one present in Wangan Midnight R. both games required you to keep in close distance with your rivals in order to reduce their health bar, but failure to do so in the latter will reduce your own and result in game over. the former's implementation makes it seem more like a pressure gauge, where filling the meter will make rivals commit mistakes.
If they would do real racing roots again, maybe have the inertial drift style drift stick for realistic physics and the iconic ridge racer slide, then, the last thing id suggest would be a final lap dominating lead exclusive girl to pull over and pick up to win with, you would have a unique game with the vibe of r4's iconic intro.
in 90s consoles were launch featuring racing games, f-zero, wipeout. nowadays players only wants fps, consoles don't features racing games, as namco abandonned all its racing licences.
Namco should do a collection for current Gen systems, pack one containing the Ridge Racer games from PlayStation and N64 with HD upgrade and original mode. Pack 2, the Playstation 2 game include R Racing and, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. Include all downloadeble content. If they sell well enough make a new Ridge Racer game.
So many people keep trying to say Ridge Racer can’t compete with games like Forza and Gran Turismo. It doesn’t have to. Ridge Racer is for adrenalin junkies and that is how they should build it and market it. They don’t have to put in nearly the amount of resources that a Forza or Gran Turismo needs. If Namco did a true sequel to Type 4 it would do just fine. Frankly, I find Gran Turismo and Forza style games to be boring and time wasting. I want to race sporty cars from the start with high speed drifting. I don’t care about garages and tuning every little aspect of a car.
It's seems overtime the serie lost his arcade identity for more realistic graphisms, I wish it evolves toward something fun and colorful. Outrun 2006 manage to keep that appeal in comparison. I still have fun playing RR games from time to time though, I wish for a reborn anyday 😔
