As an old head, I think why we ignored Benzino because it was a pretty big betrayal to find out how bs the ratings behind The Source was. It was very different times but we did really look to that magazine as the truth, numerous emcees had lines about how their goal was 5 mics in The Source, etc. Also, I think it would’ve went different had Em not shown how steeped in the culture he was.

So JonBenet Ramsey’s murder is EASILY one of the most famous UNSOLVED murders in American history. She was killed at 6 years old on CHRISTMAS DAY in 96’. Eminem’s daughter was born on Christmas Day, 1 year to the day before the murder. At the time it was even more pathetic of a line because this little girl’s death was still on everybody’s mind. I’m 1 year younger than Ramsey and even at 5-6 years old I remember hearing about her death and it stuck with people. At the time of Benzino’s “diss track” Hailie was 6 and almost the exact same age as JonBenet Ramsey was when she was killed. So no that wasn’t a “crazy bar”, it was a pathetic low blow about literally KILLING a child that turned people off Benzino. Diss tracks are cool but even rappers don’t talk about KILLING a child in them. They don’t get down like that. Add that on top of the fact he got absolutely COOKED in the diss battle and the Benzino fall off was complete. I’m glad he has nothing.
