A country paying for non-citizens' non-essential medical bills is nuts when the same country isn't covering many of its own citizens' medical expenses for actually life-threatening conditions.
@@tremontefr5617 I think you overlooked the part about NON-essential (gender re-assignment) and BILLs. Sure, hospitals may be required to provide emergency care but they don't do it for free. They will attempt to bankrupt you first if you don't have sufficient insurance coverage.

Cenk, I agree with you on a lot but sorry, gender IS what it is at birth. The mind being more complex than something as simple as this doesn't really have anything to do with it. The mind can be as complex as it wants but the body is what it is.
Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, girls, and boys that are socially constructed. This includes norms, behaviours, and roles associated with being a woman, man, girl, or boy, as well as relationships with each other (WHO). It's different for Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, girls, and boys that are socially constructed. This includes norms, behaviours, and roles associated with being a woman, man, girl, or boy, as well as relationships with each other(WHO). Since Gender is a societal construct, it means different stuff for different people depending on one's culture it can be either be associated with sex and say they're only two Genders or you can say that it's a spectrum. But you can't force ones views on the other since like I said it's a social construct we created it for our own ease like Gender roles. Sex how ever are only two and you can't change that even with surgery since it's on a dna level your either female or male or some times in between due to a chromosomal abnormality. You either believe in science or you don't.
@ibrahimrashied9707 😂😂 and therein lies the entire problem with what you *think*. You take "gender" and morph it's meaning. Gender is the sex of a male or female. That's all. Not this long drawn out excuse for why you buy into this idea of "social construct". Over complicating something extremely simple. Period.
To be fair, times changed and the policies have to reflect whatever the current climate or current issues we're dealing with. 2019 waa different than today.

Those gender-altering surgeries must be those stories I've heard on NPR about migrants getting their uteruses removed ~ with NO consent. It happened in the south. 😔
"Taxpayer funded transgender surgeries on detained migrants" really isnt an extreme position, that's just framed in an inflammatory way. Its really just an overlap of 3 issues Cenk already believes: 1. Gender affirming treatment is life-saving healthcare 2. Healthcare is a human right and should be publicly financed 3. Detained people cannot be denied medical treatment If you believe all 3 of these things, congrats! You agree with taxpayer funded transgender surgery for detained migrants! Which, by the way, has literally never happened and never will even if it were legalized. US citizens cant get gender reassignment surgery on demand. They have to have a gender dysphoria diagnosis and be on hormones for years first. Please spare us with that "im fine with them getting that but we shouldn't have to pay for it!" nonsense. If this did exist and did happen, it would be a matter of a fraction of a cent tax increases annually
Gender affirming treatment being "life-saving healthcare" is objectively false. Nobody should be paying a penny for illegal immigrants and nobody should be paying a penny for anybody's transgender surgery. Pretty simple.

Another thing; if a trans gender migrant wanted surgery, they wouldn't get it like next week. It would start with therapy- which I am cool with. I am sure many migrants need therapy. And before we get hung up on cost- HOW much are the migrants who are working paying into our systems that don't benefit them, like SocSec? I personally knew some one who was a legal migrant, spent 19 years paying ont a system that he got no benefit out of until he was finally naturalized as an American citizen- from Denmark. I’m guessing this is more about a person who is actually has ongoing gender affirming care or was in transition. They might just be in progress or with young people they’d need their treatment or it’s cause other health issues. I’m guessing they wouldn’t have insurance. They may have had the care previous of needing to flee or botched procedure too. I can see why it needs to be available for the very very few that’d have this issue. Some countries they flee won’t allow them and risk them lives. If you just say the want to have free gender affirming care which can mean varying things too. They also spoke of free transitions for migrants. Then it sounds like a losing issue. No one in the states get it free but it is a process they are going through and if you detain them you have taken their ability to seek the care or pay for it. I do think continuing the care and treatment should be available but with the normal bill that anyone would have. I’m not sure if migrants use their insurance from elsewhere or have to somehow obtain that in a country they flea or in the states. Maybe migrants need insurance and not paid medical. Though some migrants would have no or little money so just normal healthcare would be hard to obtain so I can get why we would need to provide some healthcare to migrants. They may have disorders, medical issues, medicines, need screened etc. So yes in some ways I can see why Harris would say she supports it. We need to see all people not just the ones in our country with our skin tone. They are human and deserve compassion
Excusing the 2020 policies as positions she doesn't really hold. Acting like the crazier 2024 policies such as taxing unrealised gains, don't exist. It's also a little difficult to pretend that her policies on immigration were just lip service when they align with her party's most unpopular actions.

There are nations that provide U.S. Americans with health care and education the latter could not afford at home. That largesse does not necessarily extend to _undocumented_ foreign visitors, though. However, what they provide even for prisoners may be from the American perspective enviable. A captor incurs responsibility for the welfare of captives. It’s absurd to claim that prisoners are “free to” provide for themselves when deprivation of that freedom defines their status! What’s reckoned not an essential entitlement for literal prisoners is hence also not respected as a right of relatively free labor, citizens or not. There’s a straw man in making a bugbear of public spending, which is a fraction of the tax on labor that capital takes _before_ even giving gross wages. It’s intended - at least by the better informed setting the top-down pattern of propaganda - as a scapegoat distraction from the profounder problem of the capitalist system itself.
What kinds of common mental health care are rejected by the prison system? What is the most expensive mental health care that is enjoyed by prisoners? Do we just hate these people and the way they exist or live, is this why we don't want to give this care, or is it honestly really too expensive? How many people want this care?
Harris has defended her flip flopping wrong. If there is anything Trump has taught to political aspirants it's to lean into perceived weaknesses and double down. Harris should short and succinct say she is changing her positions, moving to the centre, into order to best deliver most Americans want. When asked "did you change your position?" she should reply "I absolutely changed my position"
Given how much of illegal immigration does not entail crossing the border illegally, but overstaying a visa, something like ICE is needed if you’re going to do more than nibble at the edge of the phenomenon as Border Patrol does. Meanwhile, though, ICE has quickly built a reputation for bad behavior. Denial of funds that it’s misusing can be an incentive for correction. (It’s probably not sufficient incentive without institutional leadership motivated by additional considerations.)
What _is_ at the present time is a different question from what _ought to be._ That gender is determined by sex at birth is in the practical, customary sense as true as it once was in the USA that chattel slavery or freedom was determined by ‘race’ at birth.
The wording in poll that you put up on the gender reassignment issue is bad. There's a difference between asking if the government should do it or if it makes political sense to do it. Those are different questions, and the even the question of should can be broken down further. People who vote yes on the should question are coming at it from a moral/ethical standpoint. Their thought will be that all people in the US should have healthcare, that gender reassignment is healthcare, and that translates to yes. Some of those yes voters will vote no if it's framed as a political strategy question.
As a transgender person, I’m against tax-payer money going toward gender reassignment surgeries for transgender detainees. BUT hell yes we should keep them medicated with the doses of HRT they were on before. Unless we plan on detaining them for so long that the cost of HRT reaches the cost of gender reassignment surgery. And still they’ll need a steady supply of hrt.
People really should Google or grab a dictionary and read what "liberal" really means by definition. Anyone using the term loosely or out of context is a professional BS artist or a dummy.
I honestly don't mind if that became policies if, and only if, we do the same for American citizens, and that we do all the things that Americans need, ie medicare for all, a living wage, money out of politics, etc. That said do I think Kamala is serious about the gender transition surgeries? No, not in the slightest, if she makes any move towards that beyond rhetoric I'd be shocked, and I'm honestly surprised she's putting out that rhetoric.
Cenk and Ana acting like that was the only proposal she made. She was talking about Medicare for all, your (and my) favorite thing, and this would certainly fall in that category. This is one of many reasons I stopped paying for tyt. They are throwing trans people under the bus in order to appeal to more people. It’s disgusting and they used to be better than this. I remember them leading the way on gay rights, not saying oh look at the polling it’s a terrible idea to support this. Usually people grow. Cenk and Ana have devolved.
I know. I'm amazed by it. TYT has gotten especially bad in the last few months, in my opinion. Now they're throwing immigrants under the bus too. They're promising to round 16 million people up starting day one. And you can't ship them all out at once so you gotta put them in camps, I guess. It's gross that TYT is spurring this rhetoric on at the worst possible time, even though crime is down....

12:53 - slow down, fella. Yeah, I get that _gender and sex aren't the same thing._ What LGBTQ+ forgets is that "what's on the inside" is not nearly as sacred as what you'd like to believe.
