Oh hell yea man, this is my absolute favorite martial arts film. Raid 2 is incredible as well. The choreography, the camera work, the unparalleled skill of the actors- this is S-tier film making. The dub hurts my soul, but I can see why it'd be challenging to do a reaction vid with subtitles.

I’ll say this, in their native tongue; the villains sound far more menacing than the English Dub. I’m sure every has recommended the second one but I’d recommend watching with English subtitles only

Whoever played Mad Dog is that ish. Was one of the final fighters in John Wick 3 also. He definitely deserves his own movie.

I saw this at the cinema when it came out. The most exciting martial arts film EVER! When the fight between mad dog and the brothers ended everyone in the cinema was whooping and clapping to release the tension everyone had felt.

Please find the Indonesian version for your second watch. The characters disappear somewhat (if not entirely) in the dub.

Try watching these movies with their original language/audio and english subtitles. SO much better. The performance matches acting.

Iko Uwais has another film that started it all called "Merantau" that put Gareth Evans director on the map.

You should watch The Raid 2 Brendal. I watched both Raid films in Indonesia when I was working for a university there. The martial arts style is Silat but there are variations. Iko Uwais' (Main character) Silat is rooted in Sumatra, while Yayan Ruhian's (Mad Dog) Silat is rooted in Java.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love watching reactions to it becaues seeing someone see it for the first time always reminds me of just how amazing it is.

'bout time you got around to this masterpiece of action and adrenalin. When it first came out, I remember thinking that this just raised the bar for all action/martial arts films to follow. Instant classic.

Iko and Raid director Gareth Evans first teamed up in the fantastic Merantau. Iko and Yuyan Ruhian (Mad Dog) went on to coreograph The Force Awakens. Yuyan and the villain from The Raid 2 are in John Wick 3. Iko is in Triple Threat with my favourite current action stars, Tony Jaa (Ong Bak and The Protector are amazing), Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite, Blood and Bone, and Undisputed 2 with...) Scott Adkins (Undisputed 3 and 4, Avengement, One Shot, The Tournament). Iko went on to star in Netflix series Wu Assassins with Mark Dacascos, and can be seen in Beyond Skyline and Mile 22, as well as the unmissable Night Comes For Us, with The Raid's Joe Taslim, and, coming soon, you got it right, The Expendables 4.

This and The Raid 2 are the best martial arts films ever imo...and Iko Uwais is a badass. You have to see him in "Mile 22" with Mark Wahlberg.

The fighting style is mostly silat with some muay thai and other styles mixed in. U may have seen it, but Ong Bak is at the same level as this and the raid 2.

Part 2 is huge he goes undercover unbelievable intense. Iko uwais is the main Bad guy in the next Expandables part 4 movie that comes 2023 !!!!!!!!! Can't wait.

This one is better, but the sequel has some absolutely crazy fight/action scenes. Don't skip it.

Spring of 10 years ago. Following the buzz and it's debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. This was the next new action phenomenon and we wanted more. Very few theaters had it. But the DVD, On demand markets made sure it was available for major viewing. In those days of the 2010s, Guerilla filmmaking at it's finest. Joe Taslim (Jaka) has gone on to star in Fast & Furious 6, the original series; Warrior and Mortal Kombat (2021) as Sub-Zero. Iko Uwais (Rama) has also starred in Headshot, Mile 22, Snake-Eyes:G.I. Joe Origins and also will star in Expendables 4.

The Raid 2 is even better

Great film. Hate dubbed versions of films. It takes away half of the actor's performance. It cheapens the film. It completely breaks the immersion. Makes it feel hammy. Try watching part 2 in it's original language and you'll see what I mean. Thanks for the upload regardless. I'm here for it.

Dredd (2012) takes a lot from this movie. I would recommend it too. And of course the raid 2

Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) had by this point (2011) been training in Pencak silat for 30 years he even had been a trainer in several countries and a refery in official matches. He also appears in John Wick 3 fighting Reeves at the end of the movie as one of the main vilain (played by Marc Dacascos) henchmen.
