The Landslide: The children are standing here above the mouth of this tunnel when they see the landslide onto the rail tracks. This is also the tunnel mouth where the children enter to find Jack, who has fallen on the tracks during the paper chase and broken his leg

I worked on this movie . I made the big old oak tree and most of the special effects mechanicals ..

channels dug into the slope mini tracks. I made bogies with tube at the angle of the slope for the real trees to support. The old oak tree is 3x3/8 steel hoops and bars covered with hessian dipped in fibre glass resin for the bark .. and a lot of early days technology plus pyrotechnics ..

50th anniversary next year , ive been invited by the author on his 3 rd book to a few t drinks gatherings chat about the workings of it all.and then in august all the cast and crew etc for a big bash .. etc ..I think am the only one alive from the special effects team . 72 this Thursday

The man with the plan thank you for that. I just watched The Wall from your comment, and I found the scene where this tunnel features. I noticed you can still see the scars from the landslide in the hill above the railway twelve years later when The Wall was filmed!

Its a classic tale that so many people have grown up with. Needless to mention the amount of people inspired by the novel- hence the many re-enactments. I don't mean any harm, and forgive if I sound blunt, however- please could you keep negative thoughts refrained, since it could hurt many people (myself included)
