I learned this song from a hal leanord book when I was 16. It was arranged in standard tuning. It never had the power of the recorded version. Thanks to you tube teachers like you I learned the real version a few years ago. The information age is unbelievable.

Howard, a sincere thank you for posting this video. It - and you have made a difference in someone’s life. Back in high school, I was “three cord Eddie.” Decades later, thank God for RU-vid! I’m now retired and picked up my old Ovation a few months ago… it needed some fretwork… actually cut my first finger on the loose second fret of it, which inspired me to purchase a new and upgraded acoustic guitar. My decision was a Martin Grand Performance Cutaway, 16 series (made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, not Mexico) with electronics. I actually drove from North Carolina to pick it up at the Martin factory. While there, I did the factory and museum tours, then got to play my new Martin through an amp in broom, they have set up there. What a great day! I just picked up a Fishman acoustic amp with a built-in battery so I can play “unplugged”. My goal is to record “the rain song“ and have it up on RU-vid sometime this summer. Thanks so much for all you do for us music lovers! Ed

I think the very last tablature frame is incorrect on the screen, but you played it correctly. Tab shows 3rd fret marks, fingers and ears say it should be 2nd fret. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the lesson.

Howard --you mention a few picking variations jimmy uses --add on fill ins & Hammer ons etc at 12 :25-----not shown in the TAB --on screen --?------can you clarify or show these variations --thankyou ---appreciate !

I noticed a few wrong numbers in your tab. 7’s that should be a 9 (2nd part) and later you say 2 but the tab says 3 (in the outro). But i seriously thank you for figuring all this out, can’t wait to practice with my new dragon tele that is on the way!

Such a great song. I learned it without re-tuning because that is just too much for one song. Maybe if I had 16 guitars.

Jim Haubert here not Lisa (my wife), I learned to play this song completely with this tuning, actually pretty easy to play just very long and you have to listen to the different nuances of the song, hardest part is the ending but a beautiful song none the less, one of my favorites!!! Nice job Howard!!!
