The Rain Song from No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded with the London Metropolitan Orchestra Vocals: Robert Plant Guitar: Jimmy Page Bass: Charlie Jones Drums: Michael Lee
This song means so much to me. I played it for my great grandma while she was passing to calm her. It was one of the hardest things i’ve ever done. The last thing she said to me was “beautiful music”. I’ll never forget that and every time I hear this song I get emotional. Love you Mamo R.I.P. Thank you all for your kind words. It has been hard without her but I have all of you to thank for helping me get through this. All of your comments mean so much to me and I am truly grateful for all of the thoughtful things you all have said. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like a beautiful, bittersweet moment to have; and you chose the right song. We all have, or will have these special personal moments in our lives tied to certain pieces...that's the power of great music. :)
Listening to special music transcends our mortal fears. I sing to my dad now and then. Though now maybe he is in another life. Prayers open like orange lights and guide them in the dark valley. Your granma felt her soul for special music does that and that will preserve her conciousness and keep her senses tuned to the bigger world.
What a beautiful thing to do for her. I’m so so sorry for your loss but what a beautiful send off♥️ I hope you still feel her love surrounding you in a warm hug. Sending you much love xx♥️🙏
I've known this song since l was 16. I'm now 63 and a retired pro guitarist. I've never seen this version before. I'm in tears. Plant and page are mesmerising as is the backing ensemble. I'm watching it for the third time now. They'll never be another band like Zeppelin.
I’m mostly into aic and Tool and other 90’s rock/alternative but love zeppelin and hearing this is giving me such a different/positive/ inspiring feeling. Not really describable. Fantastically done.
@@samhawksley1039 Yeah, for me Tool and everything with Josh Homme is great. (and many other Stoner Rock and Math Rock bands) Glad to hear a young feller appreciating one of my favorites. I'll be 58 this year and for me, it was so cool to hear this the way I remember it. Check out whatever older versions you find here on the RU-vids. Watching this today with a 62 year old friend and we were trying to guess the year. The description says 2011, but they look too young. We figured it was maybe sometime in the 90s.
I met his son Jason Bonham several years back, the poor guy was a fat blob of drunken obnoxious spoiled mess - we got along tho, he was just indulging way over the top - looked like pure hell
No not really. I was a dyed in the wool Led Zepplin fan while everyone else was listening to motown and soul. Then, soon after came *gag* disco. (sorry, I puked in my mouth). The rockers listened to Iron Maiden, Iron Butterfly, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Jimi. The Led Zepplin songs that got air time was The Crunge, Whole Lotta Love, and Black Dog. Stairway to Heaven of course. But Rain Song? Nope. Just us small minority of devoted fans who had all the albums appreciated this and other great works of art by this awesome band.
Everytime i hear this song, i wonder how Jimmy came up with the chords and fills for this song. It's ever changing and just so beautiful. I also wonder why drugs exist when songs like this exist. Thank you Led Zeppelin.
no jimmy page was just a good composer of music from his own right drugs and enhancers had nothing to do with it just PURE music coming from the soul if they had did drugs and wrote the songs then they would suck believe that i mean remember when the beatles mentioned trying to play on lsd and other stuff they just couldnt get it so how people keep this evergoing steretype is beyond me but hey if it tickles your balls to think such obsurd things then hey keep buying into it god bless ya lmao ignorance is bliss
There will never be another band like this. Ever. Not even close. And this drummer RIP, best one since Bonzo. His son is good, but this drummer was ridiculously amazing.
Yea ,I feel ya on that.Man, he just went the hell off and really got into the whole thing? Made me smile big watching him go off like he did. He was Great!
Yes, it's a God-given talent. If you needed any more proof of how important music is to God, the largest book of the Bible is made up almost entirely of songs, Psalms.
I was a single dad, bought my son a guitar , he was eleven. He's a musician and I sent him to the plant and page concert in Chicago. To this day it's the best concert he's been to.
Im in the process of learning this song, ive been playing for 40 years and really regret not having learned this particular master piece, I suppose I always just appreciated the beauty of it
He is a musical genius in every sense of the word. I keep one of my guitars in that tuning (DGCGCD) so that I can play the Rain Song. Literally, the only song I used it for. But it is well worth it.
Let’s not over look john Paul jones though. I’m a guitarist and have always worshipped page but I’m now realizing how Jones efforts on these songs. Especially on the string section.
So many songs don't stand up to the test of time. The truly great musical artists like Led Zep and Pink Floyd (to name a couple) sound as fresh today as they did when they were first released.
A friend asked me what’s your favorite song of all time , only one song he said, no one had ever asked such question , I paused for I moment, and now that I’m 60 years old , in the winter of my life I responded, the Rain Song, by Led Zeppelin, I admitted that I had some rain along the seasons of my life but it was worth it.
Thanks guys, it's just The way that I feel .I also feel it, as a departure background song when a bunch of Friends are saying good bye and saying weel see You all when we can.
7:02 Page tossing the pick away. Something about it is both badass and beautiful. "You've done your work little pick, now let me finish this on my own."
Saved my life in Afghanistan. The music kept us sane, and this was the song that kept me sane and on an even keel, thank God and Led Zeppelin. Rest in peace to my comrades who didn't make it back. With gratitude and thanks, much obliged, Led Zeppelin.
Thanks Rampart for your service. "Upon us all...a little rain must fall"....unfortunately, sometimes there is too much rain in life for some. Glad this helped you. Zep on....
As I was sitting in my truck contemplating suicide, this song came on the radio. It literally saved me, in so many ways. I have asked for it to be played at my funeral. What a song!
It's these comments, thatscwhen you know that behind every beautiful musician their message is so clear to bring hope, when were at the end of our rope in the distance you can always hear a certain mix that somewhat gives us clarity. We are here for a purpose so God bless you brother, ....I for one am very proud you're here with me today to enjoy this masterpiece❤❤❤
It’s come to my attention the purpose of this song is to help you cry when you need to. Just a little rain. Then we move on into the summer of my smile. 🌞
Faiz Ahmad I'm sure shaitan is fair well pissed of you cheating him like that. should've done his homework he would have found out half is owned by me. I imagine we'll be in litigation for decades. during that time we'll take turns seeing how many time we can get you to say "help me Jesus" while we're torturing you. should be fun.
Such an amazing song. I know that everyone gets a hard on over stairway to heaven (and yes; it’s a great song) but The Rain Song is without question the greatest musical achievement of Led Zeppelin, this song; more than anything else I have ever listened to, is a fundamental emotional touch stone for me. Beautiful; eldritch, transcendent. People will be playing this a thousand years from now (assuming we make it that far)
I couldn't AGREE wit ya more......this tune has a special place.......Stairway aint nothin compared to this BEAUTIFUL piece of music.!!! I cry EVERYTIME!!!!!
My father died the same day John Bonham died…September 25,1980. My Husband’s initials are JP and he was born on Jimmy Page’s birthday, January 9. I was born five days after Robert Plant was born. 8/25/1948 and 8/20/1948 I’ve had dreams about Robert Plant and he was so real. Once I prayed so hard to God that I could have a chance to tell him I loved him, though it seemed impossible it could ever happen. Within a year we had gotten front row seats to the 2000 seating Orpheum theater in Boston. A few things happened during the concert. A guy ran down to the front row. Robert Plant was looking down & never saw him and the guy hopped up on stage and rushed to hug him…immediately someone from off stage grabbed the guy and took him off the other side of the stage without Robert Plant even seeing him. He must have felt him though he looked up directly at me and I said it’s OK and he just went on with the show. After his last encore as he walked off, he looked right at me and grinned. I turned and gestured to the audience and said “we love you” and looked back at him and he was still grinning. It was magical and God had answered my prayer.
🌴🌴Am always glad to receive positive comments from my lovely fans,it’s my pleasure bringing sweet melody to my lovely fan, 🌹🌹hope you don’t stop listening to music and thanks for your sincere compliment I really appreciate🙏, have you been to any of my concert ?
Led Zeppelin to me is my dad. When I hear Led Zeppelin, I feel my dad beside me. I can't imagine anything making me feel so close to him. I still have my father, I'm only 25, he's turning 56 this year. I know a day will come that I will either cling to these songs in rememberance, or be absolutely unable to listen to them at all. Only time will tell, but for now, I will simply enioy. I love you dad.
Happily Ever After Gaming i relate to this so much. my dad unfortunately suffers from cancer but now has time to play guitar again and this is his favorite song
I can totally relate...i think in the end you gota be strong and use the music as a point of reference to get some inspiration and use that connect with our dad's and the music in a positive way...we gota keep on keeping on
Happily Ever After Gaming for me it’s a way of being able to have him by my side still. I love this music and even tho my dads passed, this music brings me back to my memories with him.
I love LZ's rockers but songs like this, and "Ten Years Gone", "Goin' to California", and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" are what really show off their compositional genius for me. What a mythic band.
It's so humbling an experience to watch Jimmy play those riffs almost effortlessly, and in the end, showing his guitar to everyone in great exultation, as though saying that it is the guitar that did the job, and he is only the medium, and what is true is the opposite of it. Amazing, amazing genius!
The One And Only Living Legend "Robert Plant And Freaking " Jimmy Funkin Page "And Hey Robert I'd Love To Try Out Ur Back Door And" Hey "Hoe" Hey Ho " Awghhhhh Aghhh Whooooo....Ahoooooo !!!
I had my first baby last week, and on her 3rd night home i played this to her off my phone. I was so emotionally into her beautiful face that i wanted to cry but held it in. At some point i saw her smile at me for the first time and i broke out in tears. I have never in my life felt such a love so immense and beautiful like i did in that moment. Now I’m learning to play it for her on my acoustic. Thank you Led Zeppelin for that, the greatest moment of my life so far🤍
Enjoy it , time goes by so fast .. I played this for my babe , he just turned 40 on the 9th of June 2021. . This was also one of my childhood favorites in the 70’s
Whenever I feel too stressed out from shit in life, too worried, or unhappy, I sit down and watch this video. It always makes all the troubles... not go away, but lose the importance that my brain gives them. This song is absolutely magical, and in combination with the musician's focused and calm faces it creates such a calming mix
+Jim Bo I noticed that too. Kind of a "Right on" nod, very cool. If you'd like to enjoy another little moment like that, check out Ginger Baker's little "eye raise" to Clapton after "White Room" on the live at Albert Hall Cream reunion show.
Plant did an AWESOME job but did not hit the notes as he did before while singing this song...showed great control here~ Plant nods to Jimmy because Plant knew that Jimmy got finer with age with respect to this song and his AWESOME performance...just my guess~ An excellent performance by everyone involved!
Mr. Plant turns 76 I guess on August 20th, Happy EARLY Birthday Sir, thanks for the great music, and go give Mr. Page a hug, he's pushing 81 ya know! ;)
Agreed, Jimmy pages flair for meloncholic and mesmerising melodies is impeccable. That augmented line cliché makes me feel a certain way, almost a sense of bliss and hopelessness at the same time. Also the sound of the openess of the open tuning plus the string section reminds me of As tears go by from Rolling Stones/ Marianne Faithfull. Beautiful song
This song came on the radio while I was driving with my daughter. She was preparing to leave for college and we spoke of many things that day. I was missing her already and it hurt so badly that I could barely breathe. The music and lyrics were like a balm for my soul. When I hear this song, it reminds me of that beautiful fall day, the bluest of skies, the open road and my love for her.
When you realise that everything the orchestra does here, JPJ handled all by himself back during the tour days....it hits hard man, really hard. Cheers for the unsung hero 🔥
Yeah, no kidding. John was incredibly talented, maybe the most talented of the four and, considering how the other three are stupidly good, this says a lot.
@@MateusOliveira-hr1wp it is such a shame that JPJ didn't do this tour with the boys. None the less, the music was spectacular with the musicians they used and a full orchestra. I missed a chance to see the tour but a buddy of mine did see them. 26 years later he still talks about it. He is quite the guitar player himself, so you can imagine how much he enjoyed the Plant/ Page tour. We used to get stoned when my friend was learning guitar. I would be at the turntable trying to drop the needle at just the right spot of a LZ album so he could try and learn a Page riff. Good times- old school guitar learning.
It is the springtime of my loving The second season I am to know You are the sunlight in my growing So little warmth I've felt before It isn't hard to feel me glowing I watched the fire that grew so low, oh It is the summer of my smiles Flee from me, keepers of the gloom Speak to me only with your eyes It is to you I give this tune Ain't so hard to recognize, oh These things are clear to all from time to time, ooh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh Talk talk, talk, talk Hey, I felt the coldness of my winter I never thought it would ever go I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us, 'pon us But I know that I love you so Oh, but I know That I love you so These are the seasons of emotion And like the wind, they rise and fall This is the wonder of devotion I see the torch We all must hold This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient Upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall Just a little rain, oh Ooh, yeah-yeah-yeah Written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant
@crakatini - I saw Led Zeppelin once in concert in a large stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1978. Toward the end, they performed this magical musical masterpiece, followed by their equally magical "Kashmir" - the set list had "The Rain Song" and "Kashmir" in sequence because of the Jimmy Page-inspired open tuning on his Gibson SG double neck electric guitar. I swear that half way through "Kashmir", the stadium rose from ground level a few feet and into the 4th Dimension. And... no - I was completely sober (... 😇) which was known as a good idea when attending an LZ concert in the late 1970's because... the experience was LOUD, VISUALLY INTENSE [their light shows were intense] and the 4 members musicality (the singing voice of Robert Plant is akin to a musical instrument) left most in attendance awe-struck.
Listen to what passes as music today you begin to understand. Check out the video with young children listening to LZ and 99% love it. But there's one kid who states, "I don't like music with musical instruments." LOL!!! Well, it's not music then, is it?
Just think of the number of notes played...The effort to play this on an acoustic guitar. Not missing a note,Fantastic. That nod at the end from Robert,respect...
I've always thought I nailed this song and then there's jimmy playing this song live adding notes here and there making it even beautiful, I guess I'll never catch him. Makes my love for this man increase even more.
I read somewhere that jimmy page wrote this guitar part because George Harrison of the Beatles told John Bonham that Led Zeppelin doesn’t do ballads so jimmy page said “I’ll give him a ballad”🎸❤️
Yes it's true, he asked Bonzo and Bonzo told Jimmy, then Jimmy said "I will give him a ballad" That's why Jimmy Page quoted "Something" in the first two chords of this song in a sweet nod to George Harrison❤️
This is an absolutely perfect song. The craftmanship is otherworldly. Everything from the lyrics to the musical arrangement and tone is genius. I can never hear this song too many times. It takes me somewhere else.
Jimmy tossing his pick at 7:03, Robert's subtle nod at the song's end... and a stunningly beautiful masterpiece from Zep's incredible catalog. Wonderful video.
