I would add that the indicator should appear for everyone and fade out once you pass mid. And that if “don’t retreat” is on the rainmaker’s screen that the same message or “PUSH!” Should be displayed on all players screen to indicate a need for specific rainmaker assistance.
@@planet9964Agreed, but I think it should say "Push Forward" to be a little more specific for newer players who wouldn't understand the lingo to immediately make that connection. Just a suggestion for clarity.
@@Sapphireeyes104Push forward doeshntre sound like the game is making your countredown go faster tho in case u stand still, dont retreat is a far better indication in this case imho. Sometimes sitting still with the rainmaker (and being patient) is the right play.
Thank you for the explanation on this. My intuition on how the Don't Retreat mechanic works already led me to subconsciously understand that carrying the Rainmaker was intended for you to push ahead only when you are absolutely sure you can, and to be punished by a faster timer if you misjudged the situation and needed to fall back. So on a very abstract level I understood this concept of the line moving with you as you push forward. However, putting that into words if I had been asked would not have yielded successful results, interestingly enough. It's something I did in practice by pure intuition (which is why the keyword was "subconsciously") but wouldn't have been able to explain to someone else new to Rainmaker if they had asked me, I would have just said "don't fall back with the Rainmaker". It's also very helpful to know this doesn't apply past mid, as my intuition always led me to hold the Rainmaker and not push forward if I wasn't sure even when on the enemy's side of the map, but knowing that I can retreat as much as I want as long as I'm past mid helps with doing more deliberate and conscious decisions whenever I play this mode again.
From my time playing Rainmaker since Splatoon 1, I learned that the best strategy when being the Rainmaker holder is to hold the position and spam attacks to cover ground and support your teammates in far off fights. Slowly but surely, the big explosions create paint or kill a few enemies and this creates a snowball effect in which the enemy is so pressured and outnumbered that trying to attack us becomes impossible and they are forced to retreat, giving the Rainmaker free pass.
It's definitely better to stay behind your teammates when you have the rainmaker. I've seen pushes that should have been free ruined when the rainmaker pushed ahead too aggressively. That being said, I've also seen a 4v2 setup ruined because the rainmaker stalled too long, letting the enemy team respawn. Ultimately, you can measure the health of a rainmaker push by how many of the Rainmaker's teammates are alive.
"i tried seeing if the wiki could explain what happened, but what it said contradicted my experience, so I went to dataminers to clear things up as well as update the wiki" This is a great mindset to have a lot of youtube videos will talk about the wiki is wrong, then proceed to not update it even though the wiki is a public resource
Wow, what a pretty useful channel that is great for beginners looking to get into the comp scene! I sure hope that the owner doesn’t end up committing crimes that result in a restraining order being filed against him, while also posing as an active danger to the community that he seeks to teach!!!!
Allegedly. My opinion is it's a smear, for sure. Splat safety unanimously decided there wasn't any evidence to be able to ban him over, and if she's reporting and placing a restraining order in real life, then there's no reason to bring all this info to the splat community at all. Its likely another case of cheater gets caught and falsely claims assault in an attempt to avoid accountability. Burning people at the stake in the absence of any evidence is a dangerous practice, people are innocent until proven guilty for a reason. Coming back to this this actually kind of hurts. I always admirer your desire to be more of an “authentic” mentor/person than a youtuber trying to appease the algorithm, and you often gived great advice… Not just on splatoon, but like life. just what the hell happened…
Remember everyone, DO NOT HARASS GEM. You are absolutely allowed to have strong feelings about the situation, but do not direct them as harassment towards Gem. Harassment only ever makes a situation like this worse.
I don’t have anything to say about the audio, but I do wish the Splatoon developers could be more explicit about this. This information could be useful to develop the game’s competitive potential, and it’s frustrating that we may not be able to get answers from the source about these mechanics. Masahiro Sakurai has been doing a series on RU-vid discussing his knowledge of developing video games, and while I don’t agree with him on everything, his information is a great resource that could help people make games better. A mechanic to discourage camping and/or behavior that leads to stalemates is interesting, and I hope that this information becomes more well known because it may benefit other games besides Splatoon.
Nintendo HATES acknowledging that their games are programs. They leave it up to us to datamine. Nintendo execs are fuckwads who do not know what they are doing - thats just how it is
one of my early frustrations when i first picked up Splatoon 2 was the lack of clarity in objective mechanics. sure, i understood what the objective was in all modes, but it wasn't really ever communicated to me what a Knockout meant and what conditions started overtimes. i love the complexity of the gamemodes, but it's a little silly how everything we know about the nuanced rules we have to figure out ourselves
@@durdleduc8520 I still remember when they first added Clam Blitz to Splatoon 2 after launch, and I had absolutely no clue what I was doing for the first four or five matches and disliked the experience so much I barely touched it for most of the game's run.
This is unfortunately really prevalent in Nintendo's design philosophies recently. Plenty of their games have pretty complex mechanics, but they abstract a *lot* of that detail away in what seems to be shielding players from information overload. Which is fine - new players don't need to know how much faster the RM timer counts down in an RM-free zone, or that you drain the tower checkpoint timer faster if multiple players are on the tower, or that you shouldn't pick up a pity clam right away. They're all good things to know, but new players need to know the basic mechanics first, not the specifics. The problem is that those specific details are not mentioned *anywhere* in the game (and if they are it's in a very obscure area or in a roundabout, succinct, imprecise way). It's the same thing with the patch notes - we rarely get to know how much a weapon was buffed by, just that it "fires slightly faster" or that a stage's terrain was "changed". Across so many different games I just get the feeling Nintendo doesn't want anyone to look too deeply into the mechanics, but to just play and have fun in a casual way - which is really, really disappointing considering that it absolutely fucking sucks to lose a game because of a specific interaction you were never told about. The ranked systems almost feel a similar way, and it's frustrating.
unfortunately it's true enough for his ex partner to have a restraining order placed upon him. unfortunate as hell but it just goes to show how little you can know about someone from behind a screen
*Added a link to the doc in the replies if you wanna check it out Could we actually research whatever allegations we're dogpiling people for? Jesus christ There's literally a whole document compiled by the victim and for the love of god we should actually read it and make a damn informed opinion That being said, I still think the dude needs to respond to that junk Literally just read it again, the main thing I took away is that Gem is just extremely blunt when speaking and the victim who made the document on "subtle manipulation" should probably also look at some of their own damn messages This is a shitshow 😀
I didn't know the victim had a document at all, all I've been seeing is the response by Splat Safety and their proof of reporting no matter how hard I look. If you would be so kind could you link it to me?
Info on the matter is spread all across the place, with some only being trusted with certain community moderators. The victim's Twitter has been locked down as well now. @@MoRiSeR_ yea. Even though cases like these are always taken seriously as they should be, this is one of those rare cases where there is actually a decent amount of evidence to the contrary, that Gem is really innocent. For now though, gotta wait and see how things unfold. If evidence comes out that proves Gem is without a doubt guilty of the accusations then yes, he deserves all the backlash. But as of right now there’s enough evidence that the accuser may have also been acting out of malice. We will see.
Im still gonna keep neutral on this, what happened with kwite before has already teached me that not everything is what it seems at first sight and both sides should be heard specially in cases like this, but it is hard considering the proof agaisnt him is actually physical instead of Google doc number 10
Seeing how the comments are now flooded by the recent evidence that came out against him, I’m curious if he’ll make an effort to address this, twist it around, or just post like it’s any other day of the week
In situations like this the best way for him to handle this is to take enough time to gather his thoughts and present his side of the story in a calm and concise manner. There’s no specific due date of when he should release a response, but we’ll know if he’s taking too long

I recently suggested to increase your audio levels in your previous video which it seems like you've done in this video, which is a good thing. I do notice it sounds like you've applied compression to your audio, although I do feel as if it is turned up too intensely for this video. while compressors/limiters can make voice audio easier to hear, they can also make it feel too intense, unnatural and "too loud" and some commenters have pointed out. it's all about finding the sweet spot where compression is not too much but also not too overbearing. you can precisely adjust "how intense" a compressor is by using the threshold setting, and avoid reducing it too much. however you've taken good steps towards when it comes to increasing loudness for your youtube videos.
It's kinda funny how in a way, this mechanic encourages stalling even more in some specific situations. Obviously it still hard punishes you from running back which is what it's meant to do, but if you make an aggressive push and then are forced to pull back, then you get punished for coming back to the same spot you were 5 seconds ago. Meanwhile if someone else were to just stay in that spot without moving forward at all, they get to do that for a full minute no problem. Maybe instead of the invisible "don't retreat" line always moving up with the player, it should slowly move up on it's own (slow enough that it might take like 10-15 whole seconds to catch up if you don't move at all). But then when you do move up, it'll speed up rather than instantly snapping to your new position, encouraging aggression more and dissuading stall. And same as before, this would only apply on the defending team's side (though maybe if you tweaked the mechanics enough, it could apply up to the first checkpoint once that team has managed to break through said checkpoint, discouraging stall even more.

My little PSA: we do not know for sure what happened at the moment. all we can do is have an open mind: believe the victim because it is morally correct, but logically understand that gem is not 1000% confirmed to be guilty, and thus should not be stated guilty. most importantly, if you harass either about this situation, you are no better than the wrongdoing within this situation. I suppose the downside to forcing the Don't Retreat situation as the attackers, pushing the carrier back into spawn, is that the defenders are probably relatively happy to let the time run out, since the rainmaker will reset to mid rather than drop in the middle of their spawn. Probably more useful in overtime than when pushing for points.

I already didn’t like Shipshape RM since the path from the center to left check to goal is just a short straight line, but this makes it even worse imo. This feels like a huge oversight that the carrier can fall into a RM free zone and have no choice but to move forward.
I wanna ask something about ranked, recently I been facing teams we here at least there are 2 members with a win streak higher than 7, while on my team there’s none with win streaks, also I’m at S+0. -1900, and for the past 8 days more or less that’s how 70-80% of my matches go, is it normal to go against other people with a high win streak?
