It might help to think of Q1 as the boundary between the lowest 25% and the lower middle 25%. Q3 is the boundary between the upper middle 25% and the highest 25%. Therefore, Q1 to Q3 is the boundary from the bottom of the lower-middle 25% to the top of the upper-middle 25%...it is the distance of the middle 50%. Hope that helps
