His message was more along the line of people buying these supposed valuable items in order to feel a sense of belonging and to be a part of something they perceive as greater. This "bleak future" is now (to a much lesser degree than bleak. I would say more along the lines of lonely) and he stated that people may buy these items now more than ever because they feel far more isolated than ever.

Imagine having skills in comparison to a doctors degree in physics, engineering, biology, architecture, arts, astronomy and probably much more. Another comment about history, the Rosetta Stone has 3 languages on it, all 3 being ancient languages and studied so we can understand the ancient languages, Demotic, Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs and Ancient Greek. It’s also got value from it being tied to a war and Napoleon so it’s just so expensive and important it’s most likely a priceless artifact

theres a very good reason; it's purely cosmetical and not in anyway pay to win or even "pay to save time". Additionally, there's an actual TF2 and CS:GO economy. If you unbox the rarest item in Overwatch, you'll have still wasted money in the end. But if you unbox a burning flames team captain or a factory new dragon lore you'll make good money from selling them intelligently.

@@notting2640 I think you're missing my point - if Valve hadn't have invented the things in the first place, then there wouldn't have been other companies that saw it and went "we can replace the cosmetic stuff with stuff that actually gives advantages" and we wouldn't be in the gaming mess we're in today. There wouldn't BE lootboxes. Valve proved the concept wasn't just possible, but ridiculously addictive too. I know MAYBE someone else might have still created them eventually ... but maybe not?? How many years did we have of games before CS and lootboxes became a thing? And in all that time nobody else invented the bloody things. So ultimately, yes Valve is to blame 100% for the existence of lootboxes and 100% SHOULD GET HATE FOR IT.

me and xQc had the same lego shields. They were from a medieval castle set IIRC, and they made lego books out of them too.

It's true. Grading technicalities have gone up so much do to the popularity of collecting them. Otherwise, anyone buying a first edition box of base set 1 Pokémon would almost be a guarantee profit thus the boxes themselves would eventually be unsellable. It's kinda sad. Especially when many people used to care about the rarity more than the value. They weren't investing their life's savings to buy a first edition box to sell a potential Charizard for anywhere from $400k-$1M. It's not about collecting anymore. It's investing. I got a Blastoise that's worth about $3-400 and probably the best card I have personally pulled. I had a lot of base set,jungle, and team rocket 1 editions that were stolen from me when I was a kid. All because a teacher confiscated them and some older student stole them when we were out of the room, and then the asshole was showing them off at recess later that day....he got away with it since his grandma was a teacher...I will always be angry about it. Ruined Pokémon cards for me.
