I used to love going to the NY Pokemon Center all the time when I was a kid, mostly since it was near the building one of my parents worked. Didn't really have a big interest in Pokemon back then, but free game booths couldn't be beat along with the cool merch and displays like that beat-up Game Boy that survived a bombing in the Gulf War. If I knew what I knew now because of this video I would have stockpiled a bunch of those Chanseys lol. Thanks for bringing back some of those memories!

@@priceprice_baby You can transfer them to Pokemon Bank, than Pokemon Home, than Gen8. It is technicaly possible. As there is no way to detect if it is a modded Pokemon (if a modder dont do it so obviously) this also isnt an issue for competive ones. I could create a Wish Pokemon and hypertrain it afterwards. So it looks legit. Also Event Pokemons dont have a specific ID so it is pretty easy to make some.

I played in some wifi battle leagues during gen 4. They were quite different from simulators in some ways, and the absence of Wish on Blissey was one of them. Another difference is that Blissey rarely used Seismic Toss in Wifi battles because to get Seismic Toss legitimatelly, you had to breed Chancey in gen 3, as that move was only available as a move tutor in FR and LG. Gen 3 had way worse breeding mechanics, so most people didn't bother to do that and used Ice Beam or Flamethrower instead.
@hugmynutus
@hugmynutus 2 года назад
Also it wasn't until Gen V that wish healed based on the user of the move, not a flat 50% of the receiver, regardless of the user. Meaning wish in gen 3&4 were just objectively worse. Meaning in gen 3&4 a vaporean's wish was just as valuable as blissey's.

I don't know with who you played against in gen 4, because back then pokesav usage was rampant. Everyone used wish and seismic toss blissey. Unless you were playing on a more private circle where people only used legitimately bred pokémon, you would see all of those fringe event / gen 3 moves.

@@SpectreXS fax. People keep ignoring gen and sav and I can't stand for this slander. No one in that time who wanted to win ever had a 100% legit pokemon and if they did, they used a hacked ditto to pass perfect IVs. Even in gen 6 and 7 people gen'd.
@iss2075
@iss2075 2 года назад
I remember in Gen III and Gen IV on NetBattle and ShoddyBattle at certain times Blissey would use Ice Beam, Flamethrower or even Thunderbolt as its attacking move. Nowadays in those generations they seem to always prefer Seismic Toss, but there were metagame trends at the time where Blissey would prefer the special attacking move. For example, I remember there was the Substitute/Focus Punch Gengar set (McIceGar or something like that), which got popular for a bit so most Blissey would use a special move for a while so they could break the substitutes (and not get destroyed by Focus Punch).

The Draco Meteor Jirachi is the one I think of first when talking about rare moves, it was a 10 day event that also gave you a special location on the PokeWalker if you sent it to HGSS. Draco Meteor doesn't really make sense on Jirachi but it's certainly cool to see.
@Tobunari

Draco Meteor doesn't make sense on Jirachi... Jirachi's whole motif is based around the concept of wishing upon a star and Meteors are often referred to as Shooting Stars. Draco Meteor being Dragon type is due to the Japanese name being _Ryuseigon_ which is _Meteor Shower_ with the _Ryu_ being read as _Dragon_ Honestly for a Pokémon whose whole motif revolving around things like Shooting Stars, Wishing upon a star, having the Wish Tags which is a reference to Tanabata which was when Draco Meteor Jirachi was released and often when Jirachi does get re-released, I kind of wonder why they don't make Draco Meteor a move Jirachi can learn naturally at Lv. 100...

I’m surprised too. I thought for sure he’d mention growth Eevee. As for amnesia Poliwrath, Fighting types in gen 1 are sub par at best, with Poliwrath actually being considered one of, if not definitively, the best. If you use amnesia to boost special, you’re basically sacrificing fighting stab, and there are far better water types to use if you want something that can hit hard on the special end. Outside of gen 1 though, you don’t want to be using Poliwrath as a tank of all roles.

Soft Boiled Clefable is quite good, and the best healing move it gets, with the only other option being Moonlight. However, unless something changed I'm not aware of, Clefable can only get Soft Boiled via a move tutor in FireRed and LeafGreen, making it fairly difficult to obtain.
@alolamao833
@alolamao833 2 года назад
This actually doesn’t even begin to describe the difficulty of getting a good Clefable with soft boiled, especially in later gens. Before Gen 3, Clefable didn’t have magic guard as an ability. So when you trade your Clefable from Gen 3 to 4 (the Gen that introduced magic guard) there’s a 50/50 chance that it will have cute charm or magic guard. One of these is incredible, the other is near useless. And trading from Gen 3 to 4 is a permanent one way transaction, and since the soft boiled move tutor is a one time use, if you fail the coin flip, you gotta restart your game, and progress back to the move tutor, breed a Clefable, EV train it, etc. and try again. Ability capsules thankfully remedied this. This doesn’t even mention the cost of transferring a Gen 3 Clefable to Gen 7. You need a GBA, a DS with a GBA slot, and a 3DS. You also need a Gen 3 game, a Gen 4 game, a Gen 5 game, and a Gen 7 game. It’s stupidly expensive.

Probably my favorite mechanics to come out of SwSh are the Ability Patch and Egg move transferring. Both of these mechanics finally allowed for these event specific moves to be used in tandem with other moves and abilities that would otherwise be incompatible. Multiscale, Heal Bell Dragonite was the big one mentioned here, but Dragon Dance, Wish Salamence and Harvest, Wish Exeggutor are some other great examples of this. There's also certain movesets from the 3DS Virtual consoles that are quite useful. Every gen 1-2 Pokemon that can learn TMs can learn Curse, which gives this incredibly useful boosting move to a plethora of different Pokemon

One rare move that I had a lot of fun with was helping hand on dusclops. In generation 8 dusclops learns helping hand by tm but before that the only way to get it was purifying the duskull in pokemon xd. For a ghost type that is already supportive in doubles like dusclops that's a fantastic tool to have. Personally I only used it in my pokemon xd playthrough for explosion strats. I had a shiftry with explosion since that was the highest base attack exploder you could get without trading and I was OHKoing both opposing pokemon even 20 levels ahead of mine in mt battle. I had a foretress with explosion as well so I could usually wipe out 4 pokemon in the first 2 turns but that foretress had other unrelated jank it could do as well. Even seedot 's explosion could 1 shot things well past it's own level thanks to that helping hand boost and gen 3 explosion mechanics

Gen 2 was an era without powerful set up moves (only Swords Dance and Agility), so a Special Sweepet would have no set up move to use. That's where Growth comes in, it raises both Physical and Special Attack, making some Eeveevolutions viable or, at least, more useful for Baton Passing.

Imagine if Geodude (Kantonian and Alolan forms) could be bred with rapid spin in a future game, particularly Scarlet/Violet. If Rapid Spin A-Golem was in SwSh, it could have use Galvanize to rapid spin against Ghost types, get pseudo stab from it along with a speed boost. Yeah I tended to build and test teams in showdown before going to singles play on my actual game with the team I've built. I've run into this multiple times. I got into homebrewing in gen 6 and basically just hacked in entire teams in from my showdown plans to use in random multiplayer battles. I still have some of those in pokemon home because I was meticulous to make sure everything matched what it could have been as an event pokemon down to nature, IVs, ribbons, OT, and pokeball. Boy do I miss the era of easy homebrew pokemon hacking in gen 6. Now I work 12 hour days and don't even have time to figure out if its possible to hack my switch. Being an adult sucks.

There are alternative DNS servers you can use to re-enable the DS and, I believe, the Wii's online connectivity, so if you are willing to be a little bit cheeky you can probably get most gen 4-5 event pokemon, including possibly Eruption Heatran, in a semi legitimate manner. Just search for event pokemon DNS and there are guides out there for it. No promises on transferring up to gen 8, I'm not sure what details all of the steps in the transferral chain check.
@Crankulite
@Crankulite 2 года назад
Another interesting thing you can do is use bugs such as Tweaking, Pomeg berry glitch, gen 2 pc bugs, or gen 1 mew glitch to access event pokemon. With the Pomeg berry bug especially it is possible to even access certain mystery gift pokemon because of the way you are able to manipulate the cartridge. Also in gen 3 you can clone pokemon using the battle tower bug so if you put your heart to it a lot of these pokemon can become attainable.
@ryjelsum
@ryjelsum 2 года назад
@@Crankulite IIRC, a lot of event-only and legendary pokemon are validated in certain ways transferring up from gen 5 to gen 6, such as checking OT, ribbons, caught location, etc. it should have - it would be much harder to transfer those obtained from glitches. I talked about this method because it's probably the thing most likely to work for that Pokemon Bank transfer step, if the person setting up the DNS is careful to match all of the details of the original event. If you glitch an event item/to an event area that was released in Gen 3 or 4 officially, though, it should transfer fine. It's possible to make pokemon hold event items in gen 3 via the Pomeg glitch, just not sure off the top of my head what EVs or whatever you need. Also, Mews from Gen 1 VC games have to have a specific TID and OT or they aren't able to be transferred per the same checker. It's possible to make transferable Gen 1 mews, but it essentially requires arbitrary code execution because you have to modify the OT and TID to be correct. There's a guide out there on it by Crystal_, I believe.

@@ryjelsum to be fair last I did this was pokemon bank which back in the day had a lot less validation checkers then pokemon home did. @ryjelsum
@ryjelsum 2 года назад
@@Crankulite That's what I was talking about with event areas and items. something of huge note in terms of obtaining rare event pokémon in game is that duplicating pokémon via trade is possible up to generation 6 so that means if you have any of these you should probably dupe them exspecially if you have any that evolve since you would the be able to to not only have multiple copies of the same pokémon but also some unevolved versions that may be of use if a new regional variant if that pokémon is added in future titles

Well, considering there is a group who recovered the old Memory Cards and Hardware the Gotta-Catch-'em-All Machine from the NY Pokecenter used, a bunch of those Gen 2 and 3 Event Pokemon can be redistributed again. Likewise with the people who are restored the Wifi Servers for Pokemon DPP/HGSS, Ranger and BW (Not sure about BW2 though) for the Events/Mystery Gifts, a lot of these once unobtainable event items and Pokemon can be recovered without save editing.
@bluemew22

Having looked into the save editors for gen 4 and 5, it is not out of the question that someone could perfectly recreate the Event Pokemon and have it pass the check systems on real software for transfers. While this is not a move, you can make the case that some EV-splits on Hitmonchan and Hitmontop can be considered "rare" under your definition. Many common sets for those Pokemon use an adamant nature with 252 attack EVs and no defense EVs. But it is not actually possible to Evolve an adamant Tyrogue into either Hitmonchan or Hitmontop without giving it at least some defense EVs, as the nature makes it such that it has a higher attack than defense at level 20, which will always cause it to evolve into Hitmonlee. There are ways to get both and adamant Hitmonchan and and adamant Hitmontop without giving them defense EVs through other ways, though. You can soft reset for the gift Hitmonchan in the fighting dojo in FRLG, and you can get Hitmonchan as a shadow Pokemon in Colosseum and transfer it to a GBA game. Without resorting to cheating or RNG abuse, it will take a long time to get the right nature and good IVs. In additon to that, since both of those methods to get an adamant Hitmonchan or Hitmontop only work in gen 3 games, you cannot use their second abilities that were added in gen 3. If the goal of a simlutor was to 100% conform with the legality of the real games, adamant Hitmontop or Hitmonchan without defense EVs shouldn't be allowed to use Technician or Ironfist.
