Today let's check out the rarest ultralight tent on RU-vid. Seriously there are like 3 videos about it months after release.
That's pretty crazy.
So what comes in the box and how easy is it to setup?
Lets find out!

At 3:25 I absolutely misspoke. Obviously I've been in giant car camping tents bigger than this one before. I think I meant to say I've never been in a lightweight backpacking tent this big before. I normally carry 1p tents.

i enjoy your other channel and just happened to see this one. so glad to see you enjoy tech but also getting away from it all just like myself. i just got back from the Hoosier National forest for a week of backpacking and fishing. looking to go to ground as ive been a hammock camper for 10+ years to bring the puppy and this is the tent ive been looking at getting for extended trips.

Yeah it's nice to just get out and enjoy some quiet time in the back country. I used to be a big hammock person myself, but I'm hiking with my son now and its just easier to find tents that fit 2 people.

I would love to see an extended review of this. If you end up keeping it, please share your thoughts after a few trips.

I looked at this one too - Thanks for pointing out those corners, I expect problems as well. I agree the Tarptent Double Rainbow Li is the way to go.

Yeah I’ve got a trip coming up where I’ll give it a good shot. But I also got the double rainbow li in the other day and it might be my favorite tent of all time. I can’t wait to get some more time with it.

I've used the Double Rainbow for about 5 years and love it. The Unbound 2p is just better--lighter, roomier, easier to pitch, but perhaps not as well ventilated--I kept the DR for taking friends, but the 2p is now my go to tent...
@TheTrailDancer
@TheTrailDancer Год назад
@@johnmarch1315you like it better than the DR? That surprised me; so many people are saying the condensation drips onto the floor bc of the design. 😢

i purchased the 3FUL Gear Lanshan Pro 2 and this HMG tent is an identical version of the same design. i really enjoy the design and i like HMG's little upgrades and the big one with DCF. id love to see an extended review.

Looks nice, but I think the Durston x-mid pro is better (I own the 1p version). I'd be concerned about those corners... Pretty sure that the condensation drops will find their way to the floor from them... I guess you'll see... PS: I knew I saw you somewhere mister techy dad. 😂

After 300 miles on the AT I replaced my Unbound 2 with a Zpacks Duplex. The condensation gathering in the bathtubs was a huge issue. Due to the vents not staying open caused lots of condensation and vertical bathtub walls that condensation collected in the bathtub… lots of wet gear!
@InsertNameHereHiking-mf9yd

Dang that sucks, it seems like such a poor design choice.

Impressive set up! Sadly for me i just never could get into setting up my Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo Gray 1 Person Ultralight Tent i do miss the 2 pounds savings i did not have to pack! , I am old school and used to the free standing tent. I do miss the weight savings and does not take up much room! Cheers

So cool. My question/concern would be the trekking pole system. We couldn't even manage a vestibule! What about weather, wind, bumps in the night? Does it usually hold up? Thanks!
@InsertNameHereHiking-mf9yd

Treking pole tents generally hold up pretty well. This one specifically is a little finicky but I use a Zpacks Plex solo a lot and it works great.

That seems a bit heavy for what you get! I use a Nordisk Telemark 2. Not as big but a proper 2 layer tent for two people. poles and all it comes in at 950g but they do a carbon pole one which is 850g! It will be interesting to see if you use it and find it any good.

Yeah it looks like there could be problems, I’ve got a backpacking trip coming up at the end of the month so I should be able to report back on it. I also got the Tarptent Double Rainbow Li in, and that might be my favorite tent ever made. It’s fantastic.

IVe had this on the PCT since April, about 50 nights, this is supposed to be a thruhiking tent. Unfortunately both zippers have failed and had to repaired with needle nose pliers, which of course I did not have on trail and had to buy in Agua Dulce, then one zipper failed completely and is useless now, Im holding it shut with duct tape. The method of securing the fly with only one clip creates too much tension on the opposite door when opening and closing the zipper, causing it to separate. The only way to prevent this is to hold one side with one hand when using the zipper. Wicked annoying. The little black loops at the center to put the pole tip through have torn off. The floor is fragile, needs a tyvek under it, I have repaired one hole so far in the floor and I am extra careful. The screen door needs two hands to tie off and untie to close. I hate this tent but I paid 500 for it in January on sale, so not under warranty now, so I am living with it. Going to get a new zipper as its cheaper than getting a new duplex. And the corners do collect puddles from condensation just as you mentioned.

Really? I'm new into the ultralight gear game, but they seem to have competitive prices for their options. I think any of the tents in this feature range are going to be super pricey.
@fatboothby
@fatboothby Год назад
@@InsertNameHereHiking-mf9yd In regards to their products, Hyperlite is a misnomer. Their backpacks and shelters are heavier and more expensive than their competition. The Unbound 2P is trying to compete against Zpacks' Duplex and Durston's X-Mid, but if their Dirigo tent has proven anything it's that HMG should just stick with overpriced and (relatively) heavy DCF backpacks. HMG is also still late to the game when it comes to Challenge Ultra fabric -- they're one of the few companies still not making their backpacks with it. Their production facilities moved entirely to Mexico instead of remaining in Maine and that matters to some people as well.
@TheTrailDancer
@TheTrailDancer Год назад
@@fatboothbyI’ve had nothing but bad luck with Zpack and their quality. HMG packs are way more comfy and don’t leave bruises. HMG has been around a long time and there’s a reason for it.
