You have to love the the High expectations of the fab rats betting scale. They were all saying high numbers. 500 at the wheel made me chuckle. Did they learn nothing from the last time with the big block? Oddly enough Paul was the only one not in orbit. Even with that said this is my favorite channel on RU-vid absolute lovable group of people.

Dialed in, 345 HP, starts easily, sounds great. Big smiles all around - Brian @ OSG, Merlin, Paul, Shawn, Landon, Hunter, Brad. Merlin's teaser on power (turbo, super charger) and fuel upgrades (gas 91%, alcohol, nitro). Pulley change, extra booster fuel pump, 80 A breaker for fan. Like Merlin said: "Gas power in diesel range".

I like your thinking Paul, dial back the boost and the power in exchange for durability. But, it would be fun to know how much power you could make if you had the boost up to 15 lbs. But you would likely only get to experience it once! Keep up the good work!

The truck sounds great. That would make a good back ground noise for ear buds . I was looking at the storage units across the way from the dyno. That's what Merlin needs to store his projects if it comes up for sale. Speaking of Merlin did he school or self teach engines ect. He really knows his stuff.

Paul you have to order a flexible wire feed end for welding muffler's. The make them I ordered one for mine. This way you can weld the top of the pipes earlier. Hope you read this. Just Google the make of your welder and they will pop up.

Turbos have their place, but you can't beat the instantaneous power from a blower. That and the sound from a blower is premium

If you go into camera settings and turn off wind noise reduction or whatever GoPro calls it the audio WILL improve. It's removing highs because that is what wind noise produces.

The tech already said his dyno was reading low because of some equipment problem. Don't be let down by the hp number. It sounds like it is running great! ! ! Transfer cases with doubler and 1-ton diffs eat horsepower. The sign above the very first speed shop I went into in 1973 said "Faster is better, better costs more money, just how fast do you want to go?"

I thought it would be around 400 but what you have isnt bad. It will do what you need it to. Once you build the bottom end then I'd expect around 450 to 500. But nice build. I think your dad would be happy see>ng that truck going like that.

Man I miss this channel I didn’t even realize my mom passed away when pop passed away and I didn’t have the strength to see pops truck cause it made me cry but I cried today cause seeing pops truck made me remember how awsome they were and feel horrible so much time has gone by miss you fab rats love you guys sorry I been away so long the truck looks amazing you did a great job guys and I’m still proud of Landen keep it up man and more power is allways better but as long as the Chevy is purring she will make it nicely 🎉

I nearly choked when Merlin said "550". I told my wife "not over 375, at best". When it comes to moving a "dead" load, low end torque (idle to 4000 rpm) is king! This is where the 427/454/500 BBC or a 472/500 Cadillac, properly built, will shine. It is all about "area under the curve".

You kbow, when Paul was having big block problems with those lifters and said he might just LS swap it, i was a little disappointed... but i should have known better, this wasnt going to be another junk yard 5.3 swap. 👍 the Fab Rats did it right and did not disappoint.

You need to put the light covers on the RatRod. Honoring Gpa Sherm with them is heart-touching and they should remain on as much as possible.

Wow .. I was way off. Rooster does 300 to the ground. It's a 4.8 stroker 488s on 35s. That will all change when i go taller rubber. Paul the wrecker is doin damn good. Awesome!! Great video

Sounds like the dyno number is underrated, since he said the rpm box was having some issues. So it's actually more likely in the ballpark of what your Paul's seat dyno's was figuring, and what the dyno guy was guessing before he compensated for the rpm box issue knowing his dyno.

I read below that it dynoed out at 397 torque, I did not see that, I was watching but you did not show the readings very much. Just the spinning tires. My first street motor was a 383 stroker came out at 400 hp and 400 ft lbs of torque. You will like the torque when you have a hard pull. Thanks for the work

I love the Chevy square bodies. That said I would take the Ford cab over. I drove one in SoCal in the mid 90's. It wss a fun 4 speed with a split trans and a split rear. Running thru the gears was always a good time.

I'd want a few more straps. Those big tires just barely NOT grabbing the edge in front of the rollers when it pulls forward under load.

To knock down that noise level you'll have to place a Y in and then play with the length of a deadend piece. It is how they get rid of drone sound, but if you adjust the length you can get anything quieter based on the length and the length of the frequency.

FabRats to 1,000,000 GPA SHERM would love the truck.

I think the supercharger is perfect for your application, power comes on instantly and is very controllable

345 HP / 397 Torque to the ground is amazing, that is huge power. How exciting for you guys, it has been such a pleasure to see the evolution of Grandpa Sherms truck, he's looking down with a big smile and proud of what you have achieved. Well done. Now go and have fun!!

You should be able to do the math for your effective compression ratio with the blower. That blower is a positive displacement design, you know how much air it will move for every rotation of the of the shaft. Get a spreadsheet, plug in your cylinder size, your pulley sizes, and the size of the blower and you can figure out how much boost potential the blower has at any rpm. You can get the compressor map from Whipple to understand efficiency in that calculation. You have a lot of things pulling power off that motor to. It may be making a lot of power at the motor, but the blower, the driveline, the tires all steal that power before it gets to the dyno. You can do some calculations on that. Replace the flowmasters with something that still flows but is a longer path. Borla or Magnaflow. Body length of the muffler plays a big role in the volume as well. So the space you have plays a big role as well. Longer body, more baffels, still flows. Here is my test video after installing. a similar blower (2l) on a 3.8 liter v6 built for 20psi of boost (never got more than 16psi due to belt slip) that dyno'ed at 445hp / 462ftlbs . With all the losses on that drivetrain, that's what, probably 500hp crank? Might want to consider keeping some spare ujoints in the glovebox for when you find grip under power. Definitely a great truck build, and we all know Grandpa Sherm approves.
