Actually, it was translated from Portuguese since this is a Brazilian production. And yes, the city in the movie is indeed Rio de Janeiro. Also, the part where Carol says that they've never had chocolate on the menu before. That's a plothole, because, as mentioned earlier in the film, they serve chocolate ice cream.

Considering that this is in Rio, him trying to say the name of it 1000% got lost in translation in the beginning. Rio de Janeiro has the known nickname “Cidade Maravilhosa” (something like Marvelous City, which he mentions in the beginning), but unless you’re somewhat aware of brazilian culture, surely this will get lost in translation and just sound like the narrator is like “fine ass city this one huh?” Btw listen to the song “Cidade Maravilhosa” ❤ It’s considered Rio’s anthem

This movie is legendary. As much as I adore Ratatouille, it is undeniable that Ratatoing left a bigger cultral impact. To say this film and it's maker have challenged my preconceptions about good filmmaking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core! Marcel Toing is, in this critics opinion, nothing more than the finest chef in The Marvellous City. I shall return to Ratatoing soon, hungry for more.

I like that this is basically the plot of SpongeBob. A restaurant is thriving, across the street there is one that isn't. The owner of the failing restaurant sneaks and schemes to find the secret recipe but is foiled in the end by a team of incompetent idiots who basically stumbled into winning.

I was wondering why watching this kept triggering vague childhood memories and then I realized most of the voice actors voiced a lot of major characters from my childhood. Greg’s VA is the voice of Dr. Eggman and Carol’s is the voice of Amy from Sonic X; Marcell is the voice of Joey Wheeler and one of the bad guys, Carlos, is the voice of Yugi from Yugioh; another bad guy, Octavio, is the voice of Akihiko Kayaba from Sword Art Online; and the lady with the curly hair from the rival restaurant, Maria is the voice of Ash Ketchum from Pokemon. The cast was surprisingly stacked for such a low budget movie 💀
