She´s one of my favorite goddess, the relation she has with memories, and the rivalry with Vecna and Orcus, have always been fascinating to me. To adventure or run an adventure on the Fortress of Memories is on my D&D bucket list. Definitely adding Nevermore to my Dm toolbox. Great video!
I believe she had another origin where she was a human slave to the god Nerull who killed him and took his portfolio. The other gods didn't like that a human killed a God and now had both the portfolios of death and undeath, so they removed her portfolio of undeath. Because of this she refuses to ally herself to any other god. I believe this is her Greyhawk origin, but it has been over a decade since I heard it so I am missing a lot of the story.
I'm running a homebrew sequel to Curse of Strahd, merging the Barovian Valley + Waterdeep. Waterdeep as the central location, and Barovian locations as the surrounding region. Dipping into CoS and adjusting the adventures to fit my narrative. My bbeg is Pointy Hat's Hierarch Sorcerer Lich (who is a descendant of Strahd), whom has captured the Raven Queen as a temporary means to postpone his own death. He has since succeeded his process to become a lich. In turn the party has to defeat the Hierarch's once-children-now-abominations; all of whom must be defeated as they are the Hierarch's phylacteries in of themselves. I'm thinking the RQ, upon her release, will grant the players each either an Eldritch Boon or selection of Invocations (as none of my players are Warlocks it'll take some tweaking).
In my games shes aligned with an equally enigmatic deity called the "crowfather" whose heavily inspired by Odin. And whereas she deals in death and memories, he deals in fate and time.
My first DnD 5e character was tiefling warlock of the Raven Queen, called Secret. She is hunting for necklaces of her grandmother's coven sisters. She is also a writer of suprisingly big pile of trashy romance novels with thinly veiled selfinsert finding a love of her life. (She requires no sleep, and her raven does a better job at keeping watch)
