I always loved these cars Lou. Incredibly back in the 60s my father actually had THREE of the road legal GT40s AT THE SAME TIME. I vaguely remember having a ride in one when I was about 4 years old. Sadly these days I couldn't afford the steering wheel off one 😂😂

Yes it was. Chris bought the car from Super Performance who built it as a replica. It was basically a ( road going ) copy of the this car. As the original car was Right Hand Drive it was close to the original. I remember Chris mentioning it in an interview he did. According to Chris they had this car doing 217 mph on the Muslanne Strait. I envy this man . I would love to see this car.

Love it! What a wicked car. By todays standards it is badass. Can you imagine designing and racing these beasts for all they're worth back when they were new. Must have been absolutely intense. Thank you for sharing this amazing piece of automotive history Lou. Beautiful. I love the story, struggle and eventual glory that comes along with the history of not just this particular GT40, but all of them. Oh, by the way... all of this praise is coming from a Chevy guy. ;) But I still love all automobiles. Especially the ones with a great story and history. Take care.

Ford and Chrysler went all out racing in the 60’s. The experiments, trials and errors, success and failures. Fords 427 sohc and the BOSS429. And of course, the eternal 426 HEMI. The majority of Chevy owners,Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rod magazines sweep all this history under the rug. I do appreciate your comment. 😀👍

In 1966 Le Mans after 24 hours Ford found themselves 1st, 2nd, & 3rd with their 7 liter Ford MK 2 and they tried to stage a dead heat with all three cars virtually crossing the line together. Car number 2 of McLaren & Amon was declared the winner as it had started slightly further down the road at the start.

Look at the actual finish. This car was at least a car length in front . According to Denis Jenkinson in English magazine at the time , the rules said the race would finish at 4pm when the cars were 2/3 around the last lap . Why Miles backed off in the last few hundred meters, nobody knows. A largely inaccurate Hollywood film over 50 years after the event has certainly clouded what was reported at the time.

Rob Is Totally Correct in the Words " Some day, some young person of a New generation will Own and hopefully Cherish t his car as I certainly do " We Only hold these cherished vehicles for a limited time . These automobiles will more than likely outlive us and they will then move on to another lucky person . I worked for a high end automotive restoration shop and have since retired .My old employer once told me "the restoration work we do on these cars is Not necessarily for the "Current " owner , but for posterity and for the years , times and admirers of the future " So true . My old employer has recently passed , and his Entire collection of World Class Automobiles will Very Soon be part of Another"s collection to cherish and enjoy as others before him have .

I don't care what you say or what the trophy says. Ken Miles and Denny Hulme in the number one car, won that race. The only reason that McLaren in the two car was given the win, was because Ford executives asked Miles to slow down and wait for the other two cars to catch up for a three car photo finish. This was after Miles had lead by a lap and a half before the 1 car was brought in for a driver change. Miles took over and was then asked to slow down to wait on them. Miles had set multiple track lap records during the race and lead most of that race. When all three car were heading too the Checkered Flag, McLaren moved out ahead of Miles and was given the win. It was a real dick move by McLaren. Ken Miles knew he was a lap ahead, but Miles didn't know was that someone in Ford went to the scorers and had on lap removed from the 1 car. Ford execs wanted the headline to read "Ford wins LeMans". Not Ken Miles wins Daytona, Sebring and LeMans. So Ford execs gave instructions to all the drivers for this finish. McLaren had stated that given the opportunity, he wasn't going to let this opportunity slip through his hands. He would not finish second. Of course Miles thought he was a lap ahead of the other two cars. McLaren did not know he was a lap down and wanted the win. He didn't know how this event had been manipulated. This injustice was never caused by some weird rule about starting further back. It had everything to do with the scoring of laps and having one lap taken away from the 1 car at some point very late in the race. Technically the 2 car is in the record book as the winner in 66. But not in the hearts of real race fans who saw the injustice of that finish. No one should ever look upon the 2 car as the winner. That car ran second to the 1 car for most of the race and in reality finished a lap down to the 1 car.

@@loucostabile If you really believe that, then why would you call this the "Real" winner. This car is nothing of the sort. This car is part of one of the most despicable injustices every carried out in motor racing. I could easily think of three of four bylines to better describe this video. How about "Ford's documented but controversial winner of LeMans". Or, "The Ford GT that stole victory from Ken Miles". Or "The actual Ford GT driven by the opportunistic Bruce McLaren in 1966". I could do this all day long. Call it what it is, but this car did not outright win LeMans and it's an insult to suggest that it did. This car may go down in the record books as the winner in 66, but not by it's performance. This car is only famous due to this controversy. It's not the fault of the car, but that of Ford executives and Bruce McLaren. The 2 car would be better remembered as the car that came in second place in 66.

Not quite right Phil. Eric Broadley at Lola built a concept car. Ford UK purchased the concept and started building their own car based on Eric's concept. But this 75-year-old Kiwi is tired of arguing with the misinformed charlie. BTW, Denny Hulme was way faster than Miles in the race. Denny was a professional, Miles was an amateur. And Bruce and Chris were hampered at the start - starting on wrong Firestone tyres. Hopeless. Bruce after two stops convinced them to be put on Goodyears - but they were many laps down. So in the race they consistently ran faster laps to catch Miles.
