Japanese copied any thing, including spoken and written languages, from China for at least thousands of years. They are not shy and China did not censored them. For the last thirty or forty years, they expended the food business to Singapore, and the so called Japanese kanji there had dropped some strokes or reversed the order. So to made them look like not Chinese, very silly. For example, they changed the waterboiled jiaozi 饺子to gyoza.Etc.

2:32 The cube is called *Sachima* in English (Chinese Soft Flour Cake). Sachima (or saqima) 馬仔 is a traditional Chinese egg pasty, which basically is made from fried egg noodles, and then mixed in syrup. It originated in Northeast China and eventually became a popular cake in Beijing. The flavors and texture might differ from different regions, as people modify the syrup and add unique ingredients. But we all love its fluffy texture and strong aromatic flavor from deep-frying the noodles. You can look up recipes to make it yourself, even if you are in the U.S.

I am a Chinese who has lived in Germany for more than ten years. I really like this couple's travel videos recently. In fact, I found a very good evidence that they are not used or hired by the Chinese government. There are several videos about Chinese food in their videos. But these restaurants look ordinary, small restaurants or stands on the street, and they cannot represent high level Chinese cuisine. But they enjoy these ordinary foods. If they were really hired by the Chinese government, the Chinese food they filmed should be in luxurious and high-end Restaurants. Have a good travel in Guangdong. Wünsche euch eine wunderschöne Reise in Südchina. Übrigens komme ursprünglich aus Nordchina heißt Dalian, also herzlich willkommen auch in Dalian. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 👋

When people ask if you want it spicy (La), you can just say 'a little spicy' (yi dian dian la). They will understand because many Cantonese also prefer their food less spicy. I guess you guys really love sweet things; you should try the iced milk tea to soothe the spicy sensation in your mouth. We're so addicted to milk tea that you'll see milk tea shops everywhere. 2:09 ShaQima, who also writes "SaQima", "SaQima", is a transliteration of Manchu sacima. Hong Kong calls it "Ma Zai", which is a kind of sweet cake with Manchu characteristics. The method is to fry the noodles, mix them with sugar, and then cut them into small pieces. SaQima has the characteristics of beige color, soft and crisp taste, sweet and delicious, and rich fragrance of osmanthus honey.

11:03 Yes. Chicken feet is worth trying. People worry about eating skin that is dirty, the skin is actually peeled off otherwise you'd be eating scales. So it's clean. You basically eat the collagen with is cooked three different ways, braised, fried and steamed for optimum texture and flavor. Gently spit out any bones. It's a fun texture exercise for your mouth and muscles. You need to try it once in your lifetime. Common at DIM SUM. Which you MUST try in Guangzhou.

The cooking methods of Beijing roast duck and Cantonese roast duck are very different. Before roasting Peking duck, the duck meat does not need to be processed too much. There is no need to add seasonings in advance. Generally, it is just dipping on the surface. Although the skin of Peking duck is crispy and delicious, the duck meat inside is not very tasty. Before making Cantonese roast duck, a lot of seasonings are added and marinated for a period of time, so that the duck meat will be more tender and taste better. Compared with Beijing roast duck, Guangdong roast duck is more affordable and more friendly to the people. I highly recommend you try this authentic Cantonese food.

A tiny suggestion for Luke and Naomi to try some of the hot snacks and dim sums(点心) is to take a small bite of the surface first and wait the inside cool down for a while before eating because some of them might have very hot soup or other ingredients inside. It’s really easy to get the mouth brunt if you take a large bite or eating them as a whole so be careful 😂😂😂 btw many of us as audience from China have found that you both look much more relaxed comparing to the very first video when you just arrive Chengdu😂 we are also so glad to see you are enjoying the tour and hope you enjoy more foods in Guangdong🎉❤

Hi Luke and Naoni, welcome to Guangzhou! As a local I highly recommend you have some local Cantonese food. The foods you had in video are commonly seen in every scenic spot in China. Here are some recommendations: If you like beef, "潮发“ “CHAOFA" is a nice an option , its known for beef hotpot where you can have vrey fresh beef and the soup is not spicy but has nice flavor. In terms of local street food, you can go to XIHUA Road where you can find authentic Cantonese snacks and meals. Hope you have a enjoyable trip in China~

Haha, you passed a restaurant called Xiangqun (向群) which is famous for its chicken. And at the crossroads if you turn right, you will find many old brands and traditional food, like yumcha (have some dim sum) in Taotaoju (陶陶居) and Lianxianglou (莲香楼, and you can buy some Cantonese traditional pastry and cake at the first floor), steamed milk Egg pudding/double skin milk (双皮奶) and beef offal (牛三星) in Nanxin (南信). And the next metro station is Huangsha (黄沙), you can take a tour to walk around Shamian (沙面) where many newly couple take wedding photographs here. By the way, first five-star hotel in China called White Swan Hotel (白天鹅) is located at here, and its restaurant also provide yumcha but expensive. In Shamian you can try Qiaomei Restaurant (侨美食家) and Langui Fang (兰桂坊), its Cantonese-style roast pork/cha-siu (叉烧) is pretty good. And across the Pearl River is Bai E Tan where Guangdong Art Museum, Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and Literature Museum are newly opened, but you have to book online first, that place are really wonderful. Near to Bai E Tan, you can go to taste chicken pot in 芳村榕树头叹佬鸡煲 (where near to metro station Fangcun A2).

Guangzhou keeps ingredients simple, enhancing the natural ingredient to its fullest potential by methods of preparation and cooking technique. Let the ingredients speak for themselves. Vegetables should be crunchy and meat should melt in your mouth. If you have to eat, you're in the best country in the world for it. Inexpensive, high quality made from scratch with fresh ingredients and often served to you in minutes. A cuisine that is 5,000 years old with huge geographical diversity. Plenty of time to refine methods, flavor combinations, textures, mouthfeel, viscosity and more. Guangzhou is the home of DIM SUM, even the top French Chefs would have to apprentice for years before being functional for a Dim Sum service. Every piece made by hand with delicacy, speed, efficiency and precision. Don't leave Guangzhou without a proper Dim Sum experience with rolling carts that bring the food to your table so you point at what you want. It's all exemplary, you can't go wrong.

AND dim sum is mainly, if not wholly, steamed and served in its cooking container. Quite unique around the world. note: dim sum is broadly known as snacks, but in southern China is generally linked to morning tea time or breakfast, kind of daily social gathering. Been extended to 24 hours.

that "fusion of culture" they mentioned, it's actually the other way around. most international "Chinese food" actually came from Guangdong chefs traveling and emigrating around the world (sometimes not willingly, like those tricked into going to San Francisco, or "old gold mountain"). and parts of SE Asia were heavily influenced by Fujian(or Hokkien) and Chaozhou(or Chiuchow/Teochew) immigrants as well, so the blending is more going the other way. that stir fried egg noodle they said resembles Pad See Ew for example, the Pad in Thailand is actually from Fujian province's Guotiao (or more people might know it as kway teow), flat rice noodles like a thicker hor-fun but for stirfrying. in Cantonese regions, they use the thinner hor-fun(short for sha-he-fen) for both stir-frying and for soup noodles, but you can still find guotiao all over the place. similarly Indonesian Mie Goreng/Kuey Teow Goreng/Bihun Goreng are also brought over from Fujian travelers/immigrants from who knows when.

Local here. Welcome to Guangzhou! Not sure if you've left by now but still got some recommendations if you'd try some fine traditional Cantonese Cuisine (which brings taste to next level). Jade River at White Swan Hotel is prestigious (I personally don't like it that much). Yun Pavilion at Conrad Guangzhou is my go-to (missed its chicken so much when I was in the US). You can find some really traditional tastes that requires tons of skills and patience that are hard to find outside. A more budget choice can be Guangzhou Restaurant which is kinda mix of traditional and modern. There're three major cuisines/culture in Guangdong (you can find them easily in Guangzhou): Cantonese, Hakka, and Chaoshan(Teoswa). Cantonese is just the natives of the pearl river delta (including Hong Kong and Macau) and most proper restaurants you find in Guangzhou would be Cantonese. Hakka cuisine is mostly savory, like dried meat, 'salty' chicken, and stuffed tofu. Saddly it's not that influential in Guangzhou now. Last but not least is the Chaoshan cuisine. You may come across one or two proper restaurant but most of the time it's fast food (the noodle you had in the last episode), beef hot pot, and master stock (卤水) is another specialty of Chaoshan food. Speaking of that, I would also highly recommend you to try the beef hot pot. You'll find it very different from other beef dishes elsewhere. You'll have beef fresh from the butcher of the same day. The beef is so fresh that it may tic when presented to you, and you only need to dip the meat in the boiling soup for a few seconds and you can enjoy it. Hope you enjoyed your time here in Guangzhou!😃

2:04: It looks like you are having 沙琪玛 (shā qí mǎ ). You can consider it as a fried "nooooodle" which is then pressed in a mould. It is later cut into small pieces to serve. The "nooooodle" refers to its shape when put into the fryer, but it is definitely not the noodle for a noodle soup or a fried noodle.
