Heres the thing, Kendrick doesn't make bangers as his bread and butter. He makes conscious albums, he makes music that makes you sit and think and feel. Not music you can play twice in your car driving to work, not music you play at a party. Kendrick doesnt make Toosie slide and one dance, he makes mother I sober, Sing about me, or For Free. So the fact that hes competing in terms of numbers is wild AF and not normal at all.
"Platinum, platinum, platinum Gotta look at self and ask what happened How y'all let a conscious nigga go commercial While only makin' conscious albums?" Kendrick lamar - mask off (remix)
artists like drake and taylor’s streaming numbers never impress me bc everything they do is heavily backed by the industry. all their newest releases are placed at the top of every playlist, given crazy amounts of radio play, shown on the front page of every music app, promoted with multiple pop-up ads and given consistent autoplay that artificially boosts their streams. with that type of support, you’re bound to succeed and doing numbers is less of an achievement.
Also drake drops an album like every year and does an crazy number of features. No one has that much to say which is why his shit all sounds the same and he needs to jump on other sounds to stay relevant. But he keeps dropping. His philosophy is probably "you can get 10x as many listens if you drop 10x as many songs"
@@laateenreactieachter and he'll keep dropping. That's all he's got is volume. He doesn't experiment and he doesn't take his time to make something unique
This is so important for rap. Not only did drake get his deserved downfall, all these mid rappers careers pretty much washed away too. This was truly a smells like teen spirit moment.
@@98pleasure35 I’m right. Every trap artist that was hot is flopping now. Their careers were declining anyway but let’s take a look, lil baby, falling off, lil durk, flopped, polo g, flopping, bossman dlow, flopping, ice spice, flopping, gunna still doing okay but nobody was impressed by his last album that failed to spawn a massive single like f*kumean, with everyone saying he’s getting repetitive and the hype waring off.
@@MoonMoon-fx1op most of US dislike drake buy was like, "Damn Kendrick hate that mf with a PASSION lol. Hurt drake so bad he denied having a daughter but not being a Trafficker or PDF file altogether lol
I hate how hip hop content creators make everything about streaming numbers. Influence and moving the needle in hip hop usually comes from the artists that don’t do those high streaming numbers. I don’t give a crap how many billions of streaming numbers Drake has, he isn’t moving the culture. Everyone looks to Kendrick.
Numbers mean money for the artists. It matters to them. But, I’m with you, numbers or not, Drake is not like us and Kendrick holds down the culture. This post might just be to remind us to support our favs by listening and doing our part to up their numbers.(🤷🏾♀️)
Honestly I think what Kendrick did was much more significant than just becoming a “streaming” king. He united people from all over the world that may or may not have interest in hip hop and made something beautiful out of it.
I think the major difference between the beef was the exposure of Drake, just like Pusha T did to Drake and his child. Drake was exposed for some grimy and nasty things. Drake lost a lot of respect and people started to question his motives and actions. Old clips and lyrics of Drake have been called into question. Kendrick hit him where it hurts. Drake thought it was going to be easy having multiple albums industry backing him up, once the PDF stuff came out, no one was in his corner. All what is with Drake using woman for his issues; Ross, Meek, and Future. Someone needs to talk about that.
Drake is currently sitting at 74 million monthly listeners, not 80. Idk if this is an old video, or what, but he lost like 11 million monthly. It’s crazy that many people stopped listening. Kendrick even surpassed him in listeners for like a month.
The only thing I want to speak on is what this beef did for hip-hop. K Dot just set the bar way higher for rappers today and in the future lyrically. There is no way one can step in another studio and create a song without hearing Not Like Us in the back of their head. From that song to K Dot’s Meet the Graham’s, those two songs along made people use their brain, study the song and pay attention to what was said besides just listen and bang out to the beat.
Kendrick is the King of hip hop 👑 and not King of streaming 📈which is what Drake is. The key reason the beef started was because Drake claimed to be the king of hip hop which pissed Kendrick off 🤬
this is copium. streaming literally shows you what people are listening to. if kendrick was leading in streams i know for damn sure you wouldn't be saying the same thing
@@extra4542 but but but As of August 27, 2024, Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" has achieved many streaming stats: The song has over 1.73 million streams, with an average daily change of nearly 142,000 streams. The song has the most single-day streams for a hip-hop song (12.8 million), the most song streams in a week by a rapper (81.2 million), and became the fastest rap song to reach 100 million, 200 million, 300 million, 400 million, and 500 million streams. It's also the most-streamed diss track in Spotify history, surpassing 2Pac's "Hit 'Em Up" RU-vid The music video for "Not Like Us" broke the record for the most views in 24 hours by a hip-hop video in 2024, earning over 19.1 million views on its first day
People don’t realize due to his contract with UMG drake HAS to drop music every few months! These other artist can drop when they want! Drake will always win the streaming war because he’s ALWAYS going to put out music because he has too!
Streaming ruined music. We dont know who’s actually the best/most popular nowadays. It used to go by sales, people leaving home to go buy a physical copy like yea I support this artist. Now paying to get your music played on the radio, retail stores and clubs. All of which goes towards these inflated stream numbers.
It's like Michael and Prince. Prince put out ten albums a year (purposeful exaggeration). Michael put out one, every three or four years. Michael's one would out sale all of Prince's output. It remains to be seen if Kendrick can maintain the momentum.
Remember, if you put out 2 or 3 times as many songs, your streaming numbers are going to be higher. It doesn't really mean anything. All Kendrick's songs get streamed a ton.
All this current generation cares about is first week sales and streaming numbers they don’t care about the music at all. I never cared about my favorite artist first week sales back in the day. Kendrick is a more deeper artist. Drake makes more accessible party music so of course he’s going to have more streams but it doesn’t make him the better artist at the end of the day? I don’t know why people don’t understand it Both kdot and drake are goats at what they do
Right!!! I think that is what scares Drake and his stans. They have no clue that he cannot buy his way out of this humiliation, cannot wipe the internet and definitely cannot erase history. Kendrick not only made him a hit song but made him the clown in history.
I think drake waited till when he thought Kendrick was pretty much finished. After Kendrick dropped mr moral which wasn’t his most popular album and not really dropping anything else, but Kendrick still won
One thing I am wondering is: will this indeed be a return to Kendrick (a lyricist) being the torch bearer for hip hop and it will go back to bars that still matter. Or once the hype around this beef dies down (which it eventually will), will everyone go back to listening to degenerate crap like Sexy Red and Chief Keef? If you look at the 90s, we had degenerate crap back then too (Vanilla Ice, Missy Elliots early stuff, Mc Hammer, 2Live Crew etc). And of course the GOATS (Biggie, Tupac, Big L, Naughty By Nature, Wu Tang etc). We just tend to remember the latter more.
As a kdot fan, no kdot is not beating drake long term in streaming numbers BUT he’s also not a lame artist to make streaming numbers his entire identity 😂 so as a fan I’m good, I really don’t need him to be the king of streaming. For example NLU is the most streamed song from the beef. It’s far from the best song from the beef. The best songs are euphoria and 6:16 in LA. What that tells me is that the general public doesn’t know what good music is. So if Kendrick becomes king of streaming that tells me either the general public got a lot smarter(not likely) or Kendrick dumbed down by a lot to make pop records. And I don’t wanna see that ish at all 😢. Commercial Kendrick is great cuz that’s GKMC and DAMN. But I don’t want or need pop records from Kendrick for him to be streaming king.
Who said Kdot was the new streaming king of rap? Drake is and will remain imo the paper champ of rap. Eighty million monthly Spotify listeners aren't going to just disappear. He could lose half that still outdo my homie Kenny. Kenny shit is too nuanced and hard hitting for the masses.
According to Daylyt, it is not over. Drake is Draking and Kendrick made clear he will do a direct flight. I have no pity for what is coming for Aubrey. I choose these underage girls over an entitled 37 year old.
Dot doesn’t care nor his fans. He’s the better rapper and artist. He is just as popular as Drake. He has more musical accolades than Drake will ever have. He’s more respected in the industry and the streets. Drake has lost millions of streams and all his recent features flopped. His 100 songs flopped. He’s been exposed as the fraud and weirdo that he is.😂
Kendrick doesn’t care but I checked and you are lying 😂😂😂 Drake is not doing so well on any chart. Sexy Redd is charting better than him. Oops And ugh, Not Like Us surpassed Hit Em Up as being the most streamed diss rap song!! 😂😂😂
@@miamac63 Clearly you didn’t check… Drake 11th in the world: 74.6m monthly listeners Kendrick: 13th 71.9m monthly listeners Kendrick stans might be the weirdest people
Bro I saw this video under yours and I first thought it was a coffeezilla video lmao ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dHziNTIH-Aw.html🤣😭
Between May 1975 (aged 16) and May 1991 (aged 32), Michael Jackson released just 3 albums. 30 songs and under 2 hours 9 minutes of music. Why does Kendrick have to release more music to be the best.
About 2 hours before watching this video or reading this comment, I googled to know the average time between MJ’s albums starting with Off The Wall. 3-4 years is about right. As a Gen Xer, the timeline I remember for most album releases back in the day is about 2-3 years. The only artist who was creating and completing albums yearly was Prince. Prince even said Warner Music chastised him for releasing music too often.
Beef aside I hate Kendrick stans so much bro they mistake listening to Kendrick for intelligence. The among of “don’t care about numbers”comments in here is baffling bruh these are commercial artists numbers matter always
Nah, it is the people’s fault. I don’t see myself as a fan than more an advocate for those underage girls I am 100% sure are being taken advantage of. I hated R Kelly wasn’t jailed sooner so am praying this pedo and his team of predators are caught early.
Lies!!! I am 61 and intelligent plus a paid writer. He wiped that pedo down!! I’ve seen all the battles and this one was the best by far. It will go down in history. I do feel Aubrey will remain the industry’s cash cow and be seen by the culture as one of the Pop rap goats. But Kendrick is the GOAT of real rap. Just facts.
Kendrick deserved at least 1 top summer song coz he's a great rapper. But he needs to be able to do that multiple times to even enter that conversation that youre trying to start
He did it multiple times - on Drake’s neck. 😂😂 Truth be told, this is hip hop. While that chart stuff matters to some, it doesn’t matter to K-Dot as much as Drake. It shows in the quality and frequency in which Kendrick Lamar releases. What you’re saying is like expecting Nina Simone to do numbers like Vanilla Ice at his height (when one was clearly a true artist and takes their time in putting out quality material.)
Who cares about the charts. Most of the music on the charts isn’t on my playlist. Charts are just what the labels want you to listen to. What they’re telling you is hot and trending. Be your own mind and judge.
