I live in Maryland and the other day I went to Safeway and did my grocery shopping. There were no cashier's on Saturday morning only self checkout. Before I say the next sentence I am a kind and nice person, but I grabbed someone and stated I was not paying these prices and checking out and bagging my own groceries. I told them I would leave my full cart there. They found a cashier real fast. People need to stand up.

I REFUSE to use Self Check Outs. I am not being paid to be the cashier and I choose not to knock someone out of employment. Many of the younger generation at Walmart use Self Check Outs. Sad to see
@southernlady67

I don't usually use self check out either, but sometimes there is no other option....no live person checking, so you are forced to use self check out....At first, I was worried about going too slow...(I'm 82) because people are very impatient....but now I take my time and do the check out the way I want to....I wouldn't mind using self check out IF the store would allow some type of discount for doing your own.....but that will NEVER happen...

I also refuse. They should take 10 buck$ off your order for doing cashiers work. In NY they also have an "associate" that looks at everyone's receipt to make sure you aren't stealing🙄 so they are insulting every shopper on top of making them do thier own check out/bagging.. So many people just go along without even realizing the disrespect

I use self checkout all the time. Love how I bag my groceries and don't come home with a zillion two items per bag or overstuffed exploding ones. I take my time but still get out far before the people at the one to two real cashier checkouts....which are generally manned by turtles who don't want to be there.

Hi guys! Hubby and I are moving out of the city to a 100 yr old cottage on six acres. We are excited to have garden and eventually chickens. The place needs some TLC so some things are being renovated but keeping with the charm of the building. I have a pie cooling window and its heated with a wood stove in the kitchen. You motivated my husband and I to get out of town. I'm excited to learn how to can our harvest. We are both close to 60 and my health is horrible. so I have decided to start the path of natural healing and get off as many prescriptions as I can. Theres no cell service and we get our water from the creek. Thank you both for giving us the motivation to basically get out of dodge lol. I have to say when I was at my worst you both really helped me to stay positive when I didn't see through the clouds. Bless you all. Michele

Feed and hay prices have just gone crazy, especially down here in Texas, with our drought. Last year, bermuda hay was $9/bale in the barn. Now, it's $13.50/bale. I mix in alfalfa pellets into my feed mix. A 50 lb bag is now $18.55. In Jan, it was $14.95. Henscratch was $12.05 in Jan. It's now $13.45. My hens are free-range, so luckily, they don't eat much scratch. Next year, I hope to be set up to raise meat chickens. Unfortunately, my garden didn't do well at all this year. Just starting my fall garden, and hope I have better luck with it. I have a water well, so I'm set there. I splurged and got a Generac generator, so if our crazy grid goes down, I'm covered. Need to check the level of propane, as a new storm is entering the GOM next week. Visions of Hurricane Rita keep going through my head. Sept 24, and 100 degrees. It's upper 90's here this week.

My garden is for one in 5 gal buckets...(Home Grown veg in the UK) has been my inspiration to give me the jump start to start small as I grow into my retirement date. I raise my own birds and WAS selling eggs too, but feed prices have gone from $12.50/50 lbs to $21/40 lbs. People bitched about a price increase, so no more eggs for sale. I dropped from 45 hens to a dozen that now just supply my own family. LOTS of other small farmers and homesteads near me have done the same. Things HAVE changed, prices to produce crops HAVE gone up drastically, and the work isn't any less. Most folks who bitch about the price changes aren't willing to actually DO THE WORK to produce eggs, veggies, meat, etc, so they have no idea how much goes into producing food. There is cost for land, buildings, fencing, tools, seed, livestock, feed, bedding, medical care, pest control, and the sheer hours of labor all year long... but god forbid they pay more than $1.50 for a dozen eggs.

Love my Berkey water filter! Bottom line, “they” hate when people decide to be self sufficient because “they” loose control. I have made it a personal mission the past two years to do a little bit at a time to become more self sufficient each day. I like to save my onion tops, bottoms, and peels along with the carrot peelings, parsley stems, and ends of the celery in a big freezer bag and throw it in the stock pot when I have enough chicken, turkey, or beef bones to make a big batch of stock.

The cost of chicken feed had gone up from $8.99 a bag to $18.99 a bag. Everyone complained about salaries so low and wanted $15 and up an hour. Where do you think that extra money comes from to pay employees ? It's passed on to the consumer . Who do you think is paying the higher gas prices for the truckers? The consumers Sodas went from 4 cases for $9.99 to 4 cases for $17.99. I work in a grocery store and know good and well what things cost

LOVE my Berkey! As for the hens, my small town doesn't allow them. I'm looking at a small parcel, the size of a regular town lot, in a teeny-tiny town near me (way cheaper than where I live) to plant an orchard, but they don't allow livestock of any kind. I had been looking at a larger parcel, about an acre, in the same small town - it's overrun with buckthorn and I wanted to bring goats in to clear the underbrush-size trees - NO GOATS, even rented for a day or two and gone again, NO LIVESTOCK!! That property had a creek running through it, but the field on the other side of the creek is conventionally farmed, so the water will contain ag chemical runoff. I'm retired, living on my own, with a few of the 'usual' health issues that come with age, vision problems that currently have a minor affect on my ability to drive...but what if my vision worsens and I can't drive at all? So I can't realistically buy a rural property (even if I could afford it). You have your family living on your property with you, but ask the older generation if it were just them, would they feel they could keep the place up by themselves? That's where I'm at - just me - an older woman with some health issues and limited finances. BUT I do have apple trees, a cherry tree, elderberry bush, currants, gooseberries, raspberries, grape vines, strawberry bed, asparagus bed, veg garden, rhubarb, starting to grow my own herbs...saving many of my own seeds...have a water bath canner, pressure canner, dehydrator, stand mixer, high-power blender, grain mill, freeze dryer...learning about herbal remedies, fermenting, how to increase production in a small space, etc. I'm doing what I can, where I'm at - but I wish I could live in the country.

Made my own Berkey for half the cost. Two large stock pots and spigot from local feed store, and then purchased the Berkey filters from Berkey. The set-up is about the same capacity as the Berkey Grande. The most expensive part was buying the filters direct from Berkey (got 2 sets).

Great video thanks for sharing. I live in Atlantic Canada and the prices here are so high! A 3lb bag of apples cost $9.99, a bag of grapes cost about $12, a dozen eggs is $4.69, a loaf of bread is $4.89, a case of water is $5.69. People can not afford to eat, minimum wage is $12.75. And gas prices are through the roof! I am grateful that I live in the country and have a garden to try and beat some of these ridiculous prices

Thanks for the encouragement to the seekers. We are a couple in our 60s and we are just trying to get by. Our health created an issue with the acre we lived on in the mountains so we had to move. I really miss that place. We are on a lot now that is 100 x 50‘ and it’s paid for. We have converted a garage into our home. I’m going to ask the city how many chickens I can have. I’m trying to grow as much food as I can. The heat rather decimated us this year! I am finally getting tomatoes to set now that the temperatures have dropped a bit. I just hope I have enough time for them to start to ripen. I’ll watch the temperatures and pull everything in when it’s green let it turn red. I did that last year and dehydrated everything as it turned red and ground up into tomato powder. I love your channel. I would love to see the animals a little more. God bless you folks!

Because of you guys, I raised my own tomatoes and peppers this summer. At times I didn't feel like it was worth it, but in the end, it really was. I live in the city in a townhouse that is paid for. I can't move at this point in my life, but I still drink the tap water (prob should get a Berkey) and next year, I plan to grow even more things in my patio garden. I just bought over $50 in groceries, that fit in two small bags and did not include any meats at all. Hopefully next year, I will only be buying meat and growing everything else! Thank you for the encouragement.

I started out small coffee grounds container and put in basil, thyme, oregano in each. Amazing what I've grown in totes this year. You can put sweet potatos, peppers, tomatoes etc in totes. I leave them right outside back door, full sun. I drill hole 7" up 10 holes around so totes always has water but can drain incase of rain. Just an idea for you.

I noticed this when at the grocery store last week! Something is wrong when a case of soda costs less than two pounds of butter. Not just a dollar less, but the price of the butter was almost twice as much as the case of soda. And in Pennsylvania, a gallon of milk is just about $5 now. It's insane.

We bought our 100+ yr old farmhouse going on 10 years ago...she sits on 4-1/2 acres of pasture with black Walnut trees near the spring fed pond. Sounds ideal, eh? Drawbacks are the house required a heavy remodel and we were provided false info on termite status prior to our closing when we bought. We have been remodeling the better part of the nearly 10 years, old houses settle and crumble as the foundation. It'll be ongoing but we accept that. Our beautiful spring fed pond is shared by neighboring cattle, they swim in it regularly which fish and turtles and wildlife appreciate. I want a Berkey but they're so dang expensive! Think that'll be my Christmas request. We have pasture for livestock, but I need to get my passions straight, I want to live nomad life and animals don't work well for traveling! My heart is split with homesteading. I'd love to go all out utilizing our properties resources to sustain us. True roadblock, hubs isn't on board with either!!! I live vicariously between the two lifestyles through You Tubers...and do the smaller parts I'm able.

I live in a condo and do have a fairly decent (but small) area I use to grow veggies each summer. HOA association tried to give me some BS about "all my garden areas) (trellises, etc) but I called them out and pointed out all the people growing flowers everywhere and flat asked them so I can't grow food but people can grow all the flowers they want? They have backed off at least for the time being. They definitely don't allow chickens although Louisville my city, does allow for backyard chickens. However, I can live with that. I get my eggs from a farmers' market. They were charging $4 a dozen for pasture raised eggs but now have gone up to $5.50 a dozen. I can live with that though because I'd rather pay a little more and support local farmers. I used to also be a member of that market as I sold vintage items, glassware, tools, etc for 3 years and know and love all the vendors there. If I lived closer to you guys, I would definitely purchase eggs from you but being in Louisville, it would not be practical lol.

Zach I’m 65 I’m not going to be leaving my home during any problem. I don’t have much property. It will all be container growing. I would love to have a place to go to that you talk of. So I’m trying to come up with the things that I can to make things work here. I have a few questions. How are you and Jenn going to do laundry with no power. What about water storage? You have food storage, what about the other things that you will need in life. I have little to no money to do anything. Social security doesn’t go very far. These concerns are from my heart. I need help. 💜💜

You can even make your own Berkey/Alexa Pure water filtration. All you have to buy that cost more is the filter that goes inside

Hay prices raised for us end of 2020 and then the freeze came leaving everyone without power with the whole "grid" issues. We lost our hay field that year and it was crazy! Farming and Agriculture has definitely taken a hit. Prayers and blessings your way

Meijer Super Store,in our tourist town of about 10,000 people along Western Michigan's Gold Coast, now has only ALL SELF CHECKOUTS! I looked at few cashier aisles left, none of them open. The self checkouts seemed to be positioned along an elongated U with an opening about half way across bottom. Personnel at opening of maze type setup that had bars corraling customers through line, like Disney has. Then another staff member at end of process. People seemed lost not knowing personal space or something. When done checking out, there were people bumping into one another, or just standing like statues, or clumped with people in their group getting clogged up with other clumps. A mess. Maybe kinks worked out now but I sure am not fond of the arrangement.

Boy you are right on! It's nuts! We have property and been here for 49 years and are on well water and have plenty of space for some chickens. That will be next on the list come spring as we are headed into winter and need a place for them. I am excited to be able to have our own eggs and wishing I had a dehydrator nor so I could use that and stock up on things. Great video and grant rant and boy do I understand!!! Take care and stay blessed.

I have chickens, and I've been feeding them organic feed. With the price of chicken feed going up and the bags getting smaller I don't know what I'm going to do soon. Thankfully I have a garden to offset the feed, but not for much longer.🥺

We charge $3 dozen for our fresh eggs also . We certainly don't eat enough eggs between the 2 of us to justify having about 100 chickens & hatching out chicks regularly . We honestly raise that many so we can offer farm fresh eggs from free range chickens to our family & neighbors .

I live on Vancouver Island in Canada, here it's feed costs. Our government has been selling our premium organic grain to China for the last few years, which leaves us Canadians paying a premium for it. A year ago a bag of organic layer feed was $30, it is now $55 and likely to continue to go up... It's bonkers. Our municipality is now talking of taxing our private well (for water), due to "us tapping in to the aquifer"... 🤯We are being attacked by our own governments, and we need to wake up to it!

Berkeys are over $300. That's hard for alot of people. I do have one, but I started with a zero water filter pitcher and it works great. It was around $30. I don't buy bottled water either. I'm not doing chickens, but I don't have to have eggs. :)

👏👏👏good rant….but people will still pay for bottled water because it’s easy…my husband won’t drink my Alexa pure water, he thinks Walmart water is better….. yep plastic chemicals and additives sooo much betttteeerrr. He still insists on yucky white bread from the store and garbage lunch meat.etc etc Old dogs Don’t change. It’d be nice to have a partner who helps on the farm and helps cook and helps can and garden….but not here.🥹

Bird Flu had caused a lot of Turkey and Chicken barns to be put down here in our area (NC Wisconsin). I am told this is the reason for the high egg, chick and turkey prices. I'm not sure what is going on in your area. I am grateful to have my own chickens for eggs, and meat if needed!

YES! Except they are creating shortages on purpose. Look at all the food plants burning down, even Azure Standard was hit. They are killing cows across the country, as well as chickens. We just moved a couple months ago (not far from y'all, in TN), so starting over has been difficult. Got a few chicks in the brooder, got seeds for next year, but hoping to get a makeshift greenhouse up beforehand. My MacHoney is scouting around to see if he can get the materials to make a chicken tractor again and we are praying for some extra land, to raise cows and pigs. We are very blessed to be less then 10 minutes from a mountain spring, where we go fill up jugs for drinking water! Keep telling the truth! May God continue to Bless you all!
