I've seen Goodfellows, but never seen the actual places until now. Thanks for that. It's one thing to see the movie, but ENITERLY different when you see the actual places where all of it took place. Good job on recording and narrating it.

From what I understand Batts was in jail and Burke had taken over his turf and when Batts came home he wanted it back and Burke did not want to give it up. There was more to it than the shine box comment.

The pic shown is actually that of Pat “The Cat” Spirito of the Philadelphia Crime Family. Spirito himself was clipped by Nick “The Crow” Caramandi.

Here is something interesting. When you were by Robert's Lounge, You parked the truck right in front of the house that used to be Tommy Desimone's mom's house, where they allegedly stopped to get a shovel after stuffing Billy Bats into the trunk of Henry's car.

Took my then girlfriend thirty two years ago (1990) on our first date, now my wife of twenty eight years, to see this movie (real romantic I was !!!!). She loved my taste in movies. From my understanding Jimmy Burke had taken over Batts loansharking and bookmaking operation while he was in prison. That was OK since he was a recognized Mob associate and an earner. However Batts wanted his operation back now that he was released, as was his right being a made Gambino soldier. Burke didn't want to give up the money and used Tommy DeSimone to kill Batts. Later Henry Hill's wife told the Big Paulie character played by Paul Sorvino in the film, who was the captain they worked for, about the killing. She did this while having an affair with him behind Henry Hill's back. Henry, having a big mouth, stupidly told her at least a little about it. Eventually Big Paulie reported it up the Gambino chain of command to avoid getting in serious trouble when it would finally come out that associates in his crew had murdered a made guy from their own Family. They were already suspicious of Tommy due to the obvious bad blood between him and Batts, and suspicious of Burke because he kept Batts's operation. Batts had come up in the Gambinos with John Gotti and was a personal friend of his. Supposedly Gotti personally killed DeSimone over a period of days by torturing him, not like in the film, then burying his remains (what was left of him after torture) in that swampy area near Gotti's stomping grounds in Brooklyn that Mooney covered last year in an earler program. In addition he killed Tommy's girlfriend, a beautiful hairdresser and cosmetologist, who was also a friend, and I think even related, to a lot of mobsters. At the least she suddenly, and permanently, disappeared at the same time Tommy did. Supposedly she told the girls she worked with that she had been given the opportunity to "make a lot of money", left the shop and was never seen or heard from again. Burke escaped being killed because he was a big earner and Paul Castellano appreciated that more than Mafia law, so he forbade harm to him. He probably made him pay a penalty to Castellano for that. Big Paulie apparently kept quiet about Henry Hill's involvement to hide his affair with Hill's wife. Even though Hill wasn't a made guy it still violated the rules to mess around with a "friends" wife or girlfriend and he could have been killed for it. So Karen skated and Henry Hill, if he ever knew, only found out years later and probably after they divorced. Thanks for a great followup to your Robert's Lounge story. Great as always. Drive, and park, safely.

That scene also touches a little on part of the reason Burke went along with the killing which is he kept demanding to get his rackets back.

There's a video somewhere on youtube where Frank Rosenthal talks about Tommy in some detail about who he was as a guy so on and so forth many years after all this happened.

Roberts Lounge (Burke's place) hardly looks like a bar or even a commercial establishment. Just a non-descript hole in the wall. Hill's place had the proverbial location, location, location. It was part of strip mall, you might say. Always interesting to see these places; their turf was more spread out than I thought it would be, you were driving for a while to go from Burke's to Hill's. Whenever you show Tommy DiSimone's photo, I think to myself how could this guy with such a congenial look about him be so ruthless. P.S. I figured you had a truck (F150?) before I saw it parked, it was the turn signals--blink, blink, blink. Thanks for vids.

Idk who started posting that picture of him but that's actually Pasquale "Pat the Cat" Spirito. He was a button guy with the Philly mob till he was whacked in 83. I once found a real picture of Billy Bats around four years ago on this wonderful website filled with pics of wise guys but I lost the darn tablet were I had it saved. You just covered one of the best gangster movies ever! Joe Pesci was brilliant in that movie; as he is in all of them. Poor Spider gets shot in the foot just trying to bartend for those clowns! Wow! I have a suggestion for another video sometime, and it's based upon the gangster movie "A Bronx Tale". I think there was only one shooting in that movie, and that was by the bar the gangsters hung out at, but I think this movie is much more about life lessons. And, it was actually shot in Astoria and Jackson Heights, Queens. The main gangster in the movie was Sonny, played by Chazz Palminteri, who was very much a classy guy with a "nice guy" persona. It was based upon a true story. And Lorenzo, played by Robert De Niro as a bus driver, takes his young son out to City Island in the Bronx. That alone might qualify for a nice drive in Mooney's Truck! 🚚 Anyhow, just a suggestion if you think there'd be enough material for an episode. Thanks bud, and great street parking - glad you didn't run over the rat! 🐀😂
