Over the last 6 years, I have learned your names and your stories. I think it's time for me to return the favor. Thanks for keeping it real. ^.^ / nixiepixel Fight for the users in our Discord: discordapp.com...
*The Unavoidable Truth:* I have been hiding behind the name Nixie Pixel, but no more! Thanks for showing me that there are genuine people on the internet. (✿^_^) *Do you have thoughts/questions/concerns about my new video? I'm dedicating an hour to answer them right… now!*
Nixie Pixel You're in my VIP circle for a reason ;) I would absolutely be up for your Patreon idea! I really hope I can do my part to help you out in whatever way I can! I also look forward to seeing more Linux and Tech videos from you in the future
Cute girl talking about Linux and people are upset? It's not like she's stupid or anything either, ok she's no genius but she seems to know more about Linux than the majority of Linux users I'd say which is saying a lot.
NSLM Took you two weeks to come up with something that "clever?" Here's a thought: try NOT being a jerk. It's really not that difficult. Try actually watching the video.
i sent you a message i could help you if you want we used to talk on steam back in 2009 and you helped me alot with my depression you were really nice to me so i want to help you and i can't imagine how it is to be stuck in a different country like that
I definitely remember you, ZZcool! I know how rough it is to go through depression and not feel at all like yourself, so it's really epic to see you posting GTA videos and helping out your fellow gaming community. I hope making videos has helped you like it has me! ♥
Nixie Pixel thankyou so much i really mean it could you send me a message here on youtube i really want to help you with this but i'd rather not explain that in comments thankyou so much i miss talking too you
Nixie Pixel i also sent you a message on youtube you have no idea what it means for you to say that but yeah i'd like to help you get out of this situation if you want me to but i'd rather discuss how in private thankyou again
taltigolt Nixie Pixel I cannot help but laugh at hearing this. Not because due to you two and the situations you have and had, but that I am subbed to both of you. Taligolt, you provide great modding videos. I would love to help you in the future with my windows/linux knowledge I am developing throughout schooling. And Nixie, you inspired me into linux. You MADE my career. I am going for my REDHAT certification right now, and I am majoring in IT Science at Wayne State for networking in linux. I want to convert businesses over to linux. I would be happy to donate to you and your cause. It wouldn't be much, but the amount linux adminstrators make compared to microsoft is much greater, so ill be happy to help you out :D
Gerald Smith Wow... just, I... holy-- thank you.. the feels.. happy... (❁´‿`❁)*✲゚* (sorry, speechless times like these call for Japanese inspiration) re: taltigolt
Don't be afraid to ask for help! I've been there and if it wasn't for some very generous strangers I don't know what I would have done. You make Linux fun. I've been watching for years and if I wasn't broke myself I'd buy you a ticket home. Keep your chin up and don't be ashamed to take what you need. RU-vid sucks right now but the community is still there... They won't let you down. Good luck!
I'm glad you are around and I hope you remain so. Your Linux tutorials have not just been helpful but fucking-helpful, which is the highest level of helpful you can obtain. Nicole, first of her name and lord of Linux tutorials, breaker of codes, and wielder of the terminal!
In all seriosness, I would totally back your patreon content. Kickstarter sounds like a possibility but I hear they take a cut of your action...ultimately you deliver a quality product with lots of utility. You also have a solid presentation. I actually started using Ubuntu after watching one of your tutorials back in 2012. Still trying to master the terminal.
Nicole/Nixie Pixel thank you for being a part of youtube. I actually became involved in the Linux community because of you. You are the sole reason I passed Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and numerous other distros onto friends, family and complete strangers. I learned a lot from you and lately I have been sad to see you haven't posted on youtube in a long time. I'm sorry you're stuck in Asia, if I had the ability to I would help get you home.
Thanks for everything you do, Nixie/Nicole - I've enjoyed your videos, your humor, and depth of knowledge about Linux and tech for a few years. Keep up the great work - I'm sure funding for your endeavors will show up soon.
Hello Nixie. I lost my youtube and all my subscriptions that went with. I am happy to have found you again. You have been a great help in the past with many issues that I have been blessed/cursed with. I really don't have many ideas other than we all deserve to be happy and do what we love to do. I am all in on your venture no matter where you go, no matter the channel, no matter the vendors.. Just keep doing what you do as I am 100% sure I am not the only you have helped and not the only that enjoys seeing your Smile..Keep safe and smile!
I switched to Linux back in late 08 after watching one of your Ubuntu videos. So you made a long term fan out of me. I'd you decide to have your fans fund your work I'll show a tiny support. 1% of your many fans is probably enough to make it worthwhile.
nixie/nicole - thank you for all your marvelous backlog of helpful videos. i am very glad you are out there, and yes, fighting for us users (and coders) and not the sponsors. i am so very sorry when you first decided to express yourself and your love of tech and wanting to share that, that there were people out there, particularly guys, who attacked you so horribly. ugh. good on you for not caving into it. those people make me feel sad for them - tech should be the great level playing field, for all races, genders, nationalities, beliefs (even none), human-kind in general, all contributing positively to build up, not tear down or needlessly attack. i have been playing with switch-booting ubuntu on a chromebook and your tips in your linux videos have been so very helpful to me. please know you have fans out here who got your back. hope the trip back from japan was easier. be well and thank you for all that you do to spread your knowledge and appreciation of tech. as they said in galaxy quest - never give up, never surrender!
mixie I found you by researching linux OS, on utube and i think you are a excellent young lady, you made me smile and too become more enthusiastic about using linux OS, keep up the good work and thank you!
Nixie even though I've only got familiar with your videos recently, I found them to be the most informative and fun. They have helped me see a lot of cool things about Linux and the community. Thank you so much, and I hope you keep making content for us to enjoy. I also hope you make it home soon.
A strong community is better than a strong sponsor. Watch Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls, Band) www.ted.com/talks/amanda_palmer_the_art_of_asking on TED.
I'm a granddad who started using Linux about 6 yrs ago. I came across your video clips a short time after and they proved invaluable to me. I have learned so much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with an old timer ... your time and my time, priceless!
are one of the reasons why use linux, you helped me a lot with your videos. Thank you! Nixie Pixel Thanks for proving that Linux is not just something to Nerds and Geeks only...
Re your crowed funding idea? Go for it. If you're producing good content, and you always do, people should be willing to part with a little cash. So it comes down to the size of your audience. Say everybody parted with just one teeny tiny little dollar per month. How much would you earn?
I was about to suggest you Patreon, then you actually mentioned it. It's a great idea! I use it to support my game design passion. Do it! And spam us your project! :D
I'd use patreon but only if regular content is produced. I subscribed to you because I found your videos interesting. I don't need tech support or live streams with you or the ability to call on you day and night. I'd just like to see you make more videos, regularly. If patreon helps you do just that, I'm in! Why patreon and not subbable? Because I already have a patreon account where I back other youtubers, and I can't be arsed opening yet another account just for one youtuber. Patreon seems pretty damn polished top from a subscription model perspective.
@The Pervy Prepper honestly? Thanks for the reference but t 3rd party linking in general can be shady. I'd just CNAME a domain like buynixiecoffee.com and have it link to all the things 😉 Also link tree may be okay.. I think the core issue is that you're beholden to a hosted solution for all your content so unless you have other ways to supplement your income, you can't (and should have never) relied solely on RU-vid 💜
This was extremely heartwarming, I am glad you are opening up to your fans. We wish the best for you and hope that you get home safe and soon. This ideas you have are wonderful. I guess the only concern I have is that, people who don't help through Patreon, will they be left out on content? Or will those who contribute, be eligible for 1-on-1 tech support and perhaps more personal videos (videos showing them something they request). *All in all I wish the best for you and hope for your safe and immediate return home, as well as I await the regular content that is coming out!*
A really good question, and the answer is "absolutely not!" Patrons of my creation would get additional stuff but I will continue to make my normal videos at the same pace, and even faster! My dream: If I have enough funds I will hire an editor -- which if you know me, you'll know that editing is the BANE of my existence and part of the reason videos take a bit to be published in the first place. (¬‿¬)
Nixie Pixel Well that is fantastic news! Thanks so much for the reply. Well then, I definitely support this endeavor of yours and can't wait to see what good things come out of it. This is awesome. Heh that would be really nice, that way you can just focus on creating the content and not worry about the mess of editing heh. Wish I could help in more ways than just donating but for now, that is how it is :D
You are awesome. I have been checking out your videos for about 3 years now. I've loved that you always seem to express how much you love what your doing in your vids. Plus you have given me tons of small things that I have worked into my linux experience. It was a big help to me and am very thankful for that. Especially being that I was totally new to Linux when I first started watching your vids. Your Waze GPS suggestion has been a daily part of my life. I would watch and help out in any way that I could for people that are so helpful to others. Thank you again for all that you do.
I'm more of a 3d Blender animation type of guy and I know 1 Blender user that does free Blender tutorials on RU-vid. That's not how he makes most of income tho. He also creates expensive hardcore user tutorials that entirely cover some artistic medium in Blender. So, I thought, maybe you could make a series of hardcore Linux tutorials, and sell the series on your website, or something like that.
awakaraga Doesn't matter! There are, literally, thousands of us that make tutorials for Blender. We aren't even competing with each other really, cause some people just like the way some tutorial makers do things. I recently had a few subscribers ask me to do a tutorial on UV unwrapping in Blender. Mind you, I'm an animator. I gave them links to tutorials that I thought were good. They said they already tried those, and said they just like the way I explain things. I'm not very good at all, but hey whatever. It was a simple tutorial. The more options people have the better. No1 loses.
Nixie Pixel Not only focusing on Linux alone, I suggest you can look into Open Source Tutorials, as there are very less tutorials for Open Source out there.
You are Awesome and I love how well and simple you explain things. I've relearned things and understood many more. Best of luck and I will continue to support you.
I love your videos, Nicole! It doesn't matter to me that you're a girl and that you're extremely attractive! We're all adults. People need to act like it. Thanks for the videos even if I'm two years late. I just now found your channel a week ago. I've learned a lot already! I learned Steam was on linux and my old favorite games are there. I installed and am now playing them again. Love you girl! Keep up the good work! It doesn't matter to me as a man that you're a girl and doing this. Keep up your love and keep up the good work!
Do Patreon Nikki, it works pretty well. Get off the adverts and the crap networks and just let your supporter support you and they will. :) Good luck! And I hope you make it home!
I dont know what happened to you on facebook etc, but I hope you got the thiroid thingy under control. Please post an update. We love you fat or skinny, makeup or none, sick or healthy Nicole.
Thank you for having the tenacity and courage to put yourself out there. I recently found your videos and they are helping me with a Linux class that I am taking. Thank you so much!
Keep up the good work and don't give up. Who cares what people say to you and say just because you are a girl that you can't talk about tech. There will always be haters. Just brush them off and do what you do best. I'm sorry to hear that you are stuck there I hope you get back home soon and safely.
Nixie Pixel We use Patreon here at Geek Beat and I know the people at TWIS who also use it. If you need any help or have any questions, I;d be more than happy to get you in touch with John and Cali or Dr. Kiki. Tom Merritt and Chris Pirillo use it as well.
That would be great, I was on the same network with you guys and met Cali several times - though she is always busy. I'd love to send you an e-mail to chat about it, if that's okay?
Nixie Pixel I mentioned this over on Facebook, but I'll mention it again. You know your stuff, have you looked at Google Helpouts as a means of making some money, and working one on one with people sharing your knowledge and making money? The program has potential, and is still in the early stages of growth, but always something worth checking into.
Eric Schuetz I am *so* sorry I didn't see your message before! Google Helpouts looks like a very interesting concept. I think it would be a great model for me to get started with even more comprehensive tutorials - thanks so much for letting me know it existed! ^_^
Thanks for the video. I appreciate your approach and have shared your work with several friends. I hoe for the best for you in your continuing endeavours.
I'm into it - my other channel Geekbuzz was mostly gaming. Problem is that I archived because of the RU-vid content ID stuff. Now that RU-vid/Google has BOUGHT Twitch I can only imagine what's happening there.. :P
Nixie Pixel Well, on the plus side, they can only react after the fact mostly. Streams generate revenue from contributions done live, while streaming. Who cares if they take down an archived vid on twitch. The live stuff is what matters.
Great idea, I hear you can actually get a decent amount of money on Twitch if you have enough viewers. I'd bet your reach would improve greatly by streaming there. Not to mention helping to sell those "Top Secret" T-shirts. If you embed your stream in your own site you might be able to also get additional ad revenue and affiliate commissions on gaming/tech products.
Hello Nicole aka Mrs. Pixel, I am a 26 year old guy who has done manual labor for 7 years to help my family with money (it was a very stressful time), with that I could not get into computer tech or even could afford a computer because of my situation until this past year. I say that because anybody that tries to put you down tell them to go to Hell because from the videos I have seen, you have worked your ass off, never forget that. I could not give a crap if someone was male or female with learning about tech stuff. I am the only guy in my family learning about computer technology (this is my first real year of it) and with myself being a blank slate I want to learn everything I can. Thank you for your videos.
Miss, I'm sorry that you have to be treated like a little child, and purely as an object of visual gratification. I dislike feminism, but I'm also sorry women have to be treated this way. I respect any lady that enjoys herself in this science, despite the disgusting comments of people. You seem like an awesome person, and are one of the most beautiful-est ladies I've seen(maybe I just have a thing for redheads), and I appreciate what you do(even though I don't have a Linux-ubuntu association). Keep it up and God bless!!!! --African college student
On behalf of myself and your followers I would like to thank you for your videos. Your linux tips helped me so much. I can not even begin to explain the troubles I had when I first started dabbling with the confusing penguin.
I've come from using the mac computers at school having never used a command line in my life and you've taught me more about my linux laptop than anyone else on youtube.
Pay no mind to the Zachary Bittners of the world. The reason they're so quick to troll is because they believe the technology world is some kind of "no girls allowed" club. Well...that's a crock of shit. I have enjoyed your videos and benefited from them. I'll be happy to throw money your way. Young girls need women like you to encourage their interest in technology, and silly old men like me need a few how-tos every once in a while. Viva Nixie!!
Great video. I love the honesty. Also, I'm jealous you had the chance to go to Japan. I hope I can save up enough money to go to Tokyo in March. It's gonna be awesome.
if i had money id buy what ever your selling. if your were the poster girl for the mintbox of chrome box I'd buy it just like a girl spread over top a hot rod.
Zachary Bittner Stop being a Douche. If you don't like it that much don't watch then go and troll some one else. Nixie Pixel has helped me some with some cool videos and for other stuff I had to look else where. If you feel the need to have the "right information" out there then make your own videos on the subject. But my main question is. Nixie Pixel why are you stuck? lol
nando fiction Because its disingenuous. She is asking all of us for money and I am part of a collective of "all of us" I am pointing out that if she wants my money, all she has to be is real and genuine. I do not find her to be either. Or are you of the opinion that the only comments that should be allowed are supportive ones and all criticism should be silenced. Because we all know, if there is something that tech journalism is missing, its circle jerking and grandstanding. Right?
People find her genuine though. Your opinion is OK for you to have but dude it is yours. She might be viewed differently by others and if they feel the need to support her in the time of need then so be it.
nando fiction People can have their opinion as well, and they express their opinion of support often. I don't care and have only commented back to people who have challenged my opinion. You don't see me calling people douche's for expressing their opinions of support. So what exactly is your problem?
I never said you can't have an opinion. But you definition of genuine is slightly off. She is herself as far as anyone can tell and that is genuine. But you are right calling you a douche was out of line and I apologise
nando fiction According to www.nixiepixel.com/about-nixiepixel/ she refers to herself as "gamer girl", "wild gamer chick". Ok, lets see this title of "gamer" www.xboxgamertag.com/search/NixiePlays/ steamcommunity.com/id/nixiepixel/games/?tab=all yeahhh..... not really impressive. I don't consider myself a gamer and here is mine. steamcommunity.com/id/abandersnatch/ If Nixie Pixel is a gamer. I must be divine gaming god. Wouldn't you say that her referring to herself as a gamer is disingenuous? I would point out that her self described "geek" and "nerd" is also disingenuous, but this is the easiest and most obvious to point out.
Sorry but you need to grow up before you get on here you. Don't know shit I know how to speak. Well better go play baby dolls and mind your own business and keep the hell out of. Mine. Because you don't know shit
Sorry but you need to grow up before you get on here you. Don't know shit I know how to speak. Well better go play baby dolls and mind your own business and keep the hell out of. Mine. Because you don't know shit
I like when people talk to other people like people, but while demonstrating at the same time that they know what they're talking about. I was an instant subscriber and am enjoying catching up on your posts. I appreciate people in the any tech community that are willing to share what they know to help others without being condescending or rude.
I am very sorry to hear of your troubles and hope you can get home soon. Will donate! I appreciate and Thankyou for all of your hard work on your Videos! Best Wishes, always!
This video was very inspirational there has been some things I have wanted to do on youtube concerning tech and to be honest even though I have a few videos on my channel a part of me has always been afraid, but you sharing your story has motivated me. Thank You!
I tried linux once and gave up very quickly, then I discovered your Linux videos and they helped me tremendously. So a big thank you to you Nicole, for me your a great Linux Guru, knowledgable and calming
Always enjoy your vids and help. I've been using Linux virtually full time for six years now. Still have to use Windows occasionally for my wife's business but we do love Linux. Thanks for all the work you do, you are appreciated! Have a lovely day. :)
Hi Nixie, I think you've given this a lot of thought, and feel you've very much kept to the ethos of what you're about. I have a lot of respect for what you do for this community, and wish you every success. If things do become difficult; then I know we'll be here to help out...I'm at your disposal, anyway! :) x
Nixie, I think your idea is awesome! Your videos really helped me out when I was just starting out with Linux and had no idea what I was doing. I would happily contribute if you were on Patreon.
TBH I watched a video of yours the first time a few years back because you were beautiful, but I stayed because you give such great content. I'm serious when I say that I look for your advice when I need some on a particular subject about electronics/software. This is one of my favorite channels. Don't ever listen to the assholes out there. You rock!
Random, out of left field comment guy here: I have tremendous respect for what you do. You kind of break the whole stereotype of the beautiful girl who knows diddly squat about any of that nerdy stuff (I have personally never believed such lies as I have been schooled by some bombshells at various technical subjects). The information you provide is viable, concise, and accurate, and I am glad you chose not to listen to the residual misogynistic refuse that still seem to pop their ugly heads up here and there. So, thank you! Btw, I am a brand new Linux user (cheers!)!!!! and your videos have so far helped tremendously. Kudos!
I really enjoy your Linux videos! I download them on my iPhone and listen to them in the way to work. Good stuff and keep up the good work. I'll definitely support your work.
This is the first of your videos I've watched & you seem pretty cool & genuine! Here's hoping you aren't stuck for too long. Forget what others say about what you aren't. You have built an audience so you must be doing something right :) support all the way from NZ!
I've only started following Nixie but I like the content. I'm a big fan of directly supporting the producer and not funding a giant in the middle. Any idea that allows the community to empower the producers gets my vote, and I vote with my dollars. I'm looking forward to your updates, Nixie. Keep up the great work. P.S. for a good example of how the 'crowd' can be a viable business model for development, take a look at Blender. I'm one of thousands who contributed to buy the source code for Blender. Its a decision I've never regretted.
Honestly you are doing a WONDERFUL ,AWESOME job,,,, ever since i came across your channel i got totally hooked on, i love every flavor of Linux , and i love technology , my first computer was a commodore 64 . Even being an electrical engineer i learn different things from your channel .. keep up the good work
I m a recent subscriber to your channel. I was searching for a Linux destro for new users and I find your videos quite interesting and knowledgeable about Linux Ubuntu. You are a genuine and honest person. Keep making more informative videos. You are really doing a good job. We all support you, so keep up the good work👍😊
Im a huge fan. I actually heard about you from one of my instructors at college (computer science, 2 terms left), he's a huge fan as well and was telling me about your Linux videos. They helped me out a ton and opened up my eyes to the world of Linux and some of a cool things you can do with it. When you release some shirts I know more then a few people that will buy them up. Good Luck and keep up the awesome videos.
Always thought your videos to be very informative. Love that you support an open source OS, as well as are now (and finally) stepping up to that "figure" (don't like to say the man/corporations/government and such) that most of us are under the thumb of. I share any videos of yours that can help get the "open source" word out there, and teach anyone to use Linux. A faithful subscriber!
Go for it! :) You are the person who got me into linux and me being a complete noob to all of this terminal writing and such at first I thought, UGH manual labor (if it can even be called that) just to install My Unity!!! But then I really got into it and now I am attempting to start coding in Java (yay)!
I have been supporting a musician friend of mine on Patreon and would love to back you also. Thank you for all you have provided over the years. Nice to meet you Nicole. You will always be Nixie to me!! :) BTW, it takes a lot of courage to open one's self to people close to us, let alone to the world. Kudos on having that courage. YOU ROCK!!!
Hey nixy u are awesome lady who teaches n give lots of understanding about open sources. itsmore than a year im using ubuntu and it was ur video who inspired meand help me lots. so you will always remainin my heart.
Thanks for your vids about Linux, Nicole. Here in the Netherlands I use the one about fun things to do with the terminal in workshops I offer schools about Linux and open source. You are truly a role model especially for female students making technology not about nerds and just for boys. So keep up the good work and keep in mind the good work you do is so important for education in general. Greetings from Rene of the Linux Flavours Education Foundation.
Nixie/Nicole, You're amazing at what you do, keep it up! When I switched to Linux your videos were a tremendous help. I fix and build computers and when people ask about possible getting Linux and which distro to get, I refer them to your channel. I would definitely donate and I know a lot of happy new Linux users that I'm sure would also. Thanks for all the Help, Michael
*ships the lady a hug* I wish you the best. And thanks for reminding me I should show your works and others to those who really want to learn about Linux and don't want to be given the RTFM standard response.
