Harding, when he saw the harsh truth of reality as to what a President actually had to do, his shortcomings were exposed to him where he admitted he was unqualified.
I bought several acres of land in Northern Arizona and the land title company sent me photocopies of some old paperwork, one of which was signed by President Warren G. Harding.
They left out Nan Britton and the hate she got when she dared to say she was his mistress and had his child. DNA has proven (after this aired) that she did not lie.
He seems like a fun guy to be around. Less he was a bad leader or person, more he was overshadowed by better presidents and his less than scrupulous company
Hardly an excuse for one of the most corrupt "administrations" in our country's history! "Fun guys" don't make great statesmen, but they make wonderful duds 🤔🤨😒
Harding was the first of three Senators elected President - the others were Kennedy and Obama. Garfield was a member of the House when elected President. In the election of 1920 ( the one Harding won) the guy running on the Democratic ticket for Vice President was Franklin Roosevelt.
its funny they didn't talk about the 1920, where unemployment rose from 4 to 12% and GNP fell 17%, and interventionist hoover urged him to pass a stimulus and instead he cut spending in half, and cut taxes across the board, the federal reserve did almost nothing and the national debt was reduced by a third, all so that the depression lasted 8 months before the economy was out and after 2 years unemployment was at 2.4%, and no one remembered that, the last non interventionist depression.
In my opinion, I think President Harding is one the best we've had. He was good with the budget, the senate, foreign affairs, and with the economy. He also wanted to put the American people first. His only fault is that he didn't live out his term. My question is, what more do you want from him?
IronPiedmont1996 well, you know what some say, no matter how many times you succeed, it is the failures that defines the legacy. In common with US Grant, Harding was negligent in how he supervised his administration, particularly in recruiting Albert Fall as Secretary of the Interior (Fall being the aforementioned cabinet member who went to jail, over the Teapot Dome Scandal)
This reporter is incorrect on Harding having the largest Presidential foot .2:50 That honor goes to a much taller Abe Lincoln with his size 14 boot. Harding wore a 12 shoe.
However, Mo said that Harding's shoe size was 14 1/2 and he was corrected that it was a size 12 IN TODAY'S SIZES. So was Lincoln's size 14 in the size of the day or current sizing? If it was the size of the day, seems Harding was indeed larger by a half size.
2:50 Speaking of shoes, I got to see President Harding's pajamas and slippers on display in the Smithsonian American History Museum back in 2015! The slippers were pretty big.
I wish somebody would post his bit from "The Daily Show" where he interviewed the guy who dressed up as Florence Harding. That one was weirdly hilarious.
His scandals are nothing compared to Twump. I think he’s got a bad rap by history. He and his wife were quite amazing people. I think he would have been much better than Silent Cal who succeeded him
@@maxwell8758 haha 😂 you’re funny 😄 trying to overthrow the government of the USA is not a scandal. You’re right. It’s more like treason. And profiting off of the government is not a scandal. More like corruption. Twump is a pathological liar and cheater and criminal. Twump is a loser. Warren Harding had a conscience. Twump doesn’t
@@destinymfletcher I will dream of the day when Biden and his sinful administration have ended. They are only destroying this great country from within, if you haven't noticed.
He was poisoned. A shame, as he was apparently quite a nice man, but had the poor fortune to possess some terrible character flaws - like nymphomania, and an awful choice of friends. But as a man, he was honest and even progressive for his time. If only he kept different company!
My family ,Father ,Mother ,Brother and me , plus many aunt's ,uncles and cousins attended Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport CT . The Basketball ball team are the Presidents .
It shows what a junk historian you are. Grant for a time destroyed the KKK. Harding was great with veterans, the budget and taxes. These feats alone maje both of them solid presidents. Trump and his record speaks volumes. He will go down as one of the best presidents ever. I'm sure you liberals, with your love of Obama, FDR, JFK, Wilson and Clinton, would beg to differ.
The fact that people like you actually think Trump is anywhere near the bottom tier is absurd. And by the way, you think Grant is one of the worst? Grant is one of the best. I’ve never actually met a person or historian who thinks grant was bad. Defiantly one of our bests. And even if you don’t like trump, having the gall to put him down at the bottom is nothing short of ignorant.
@@maxwell8758 your comment, if not so tragically ill-founded would be ludicrous -- and your language is hardly better. Most historian polls put Grant right down near the bottom of the list. While he might not have been vicious (like Andrew Jackson and Donald Trump); he was so personally inept that he was a poor general ( if a stubborn butcher), failed in business twice, like Harding trusted all the worst people (except, perhaps Hamilton Fish), and possibly had his vaunted Memoirs largely ghost-written by Adam Badeau. Now, just to obviate the possible accusation of partisanship, I am happy to add 2 Democrats to the bottom tier of presidential ineptitude: Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan.
@@garywait3231 Acrually, most historians currently rank grant as one of our better presidents. He was viewed as one of our worst during his time, but revisionist history is now reassessing his presidency and most modern historians now agree he was a beacon of civil rights, lead construction, and fought of the KKK during his presidency. Him making poor cabinet decisions on who to trust is a flaw of his, but it does not undo all the massive good he did.
The reason why they didn't talk about the 1920 "depression" is because it's a right-wing myth. The market had a severe correction due to the shift from a wartime to a peacetime economy but not a depression. Harding not only intervened by passing the Emergency Tariff of 1921, but convened a council of over 300 people to create unemployment policies. The causes and results of the 1920 correction are vastly different from the Great Depression. When the Second World War ended in 1945 there was a similiar correction and due to the New Deal policies that were already in place, that correction was shorter and less severe than the one in 1920.
