EEK- FODMAPs! Why would healthy foods like garlic, onion, wheat, apple, and avocado cause symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, flatulence, and IBS? Well, in today's video I'll share recent research that tells us WHY folks develop FODMAP intolerance... and what you can do about it ;)

I have numerous allergies, histamine intolerance, IBS, M.E., migraines...you name it +++ I've done everything to sort my gut biome. For 5yrs I following a strict SIBO diet, that morphed thru food fear into a carnivore diet which exacerbated the histamine intolerance & on & on. I woke up one day so stressed I screamed out loud "ENOUGH!". I started slowly reintroducing everything. And I mean everything - using a food diary. I decided it was worth a bit of bloat or pain, & an occasional wild flare to become less stressed & more relaxed about food. I now eat more varieties of fruit/veg/plants/herbs/proteins than I even did. I don't eat processed or junk food - as much fresh as I can, cooked myself. My gut is getting healthier, my gut less bloated, I"m no longer food phobic, I love my food.

Sounds so much like me. My "tolerated food" list kept getting smaller and smaller til it got to zero and I was like "this is genuinely NOT possible anymore". So I got into new supplements to help the symptoms while I eat more variety of foods again (like DAO enzyme). But thankfully I found out that adrenal fatigue/burnout is the big reason I haven't healed and so getting on an adaptogen (ashwagandha) has been helping manage my hormones. My adrenals were overworked, hormones not functioning well, no wonder my infections never went away! I'm hoping this is the last key for me to getting better. Deep breathing has also been life-changing so I always recommend it to everyone I'm always telling anyone who's stressed lol and to keep doing them. The more the better. Even before bed it will help with sleep too. And especially before eating, I also do them during and after eating and it helps a LOT

@@hcure4003 I tried the breathing exercises but to be honest I didn't do it daily so I didn't find any benefits.. For me my IBS became better now than before because of fasting.. I eat little food to be able go working and have a little social life .. But I refused marriage refused Any relationship with any guy I became 30 and I'm totally single 😂😂😂 because I can't handle my symptoms.. I avoid being out of home for a long time although I like that! I'm so ambitious and I like being in social events and I like people and I like go outside but my IBS ruined all of this.. The only thing keeping me going is my faith that I'll find the way to heal myself

Sounds familiar! Histamine intolerance, MCS, possible MCAS, migraines. Down to 6 or 6 foods! It's amazing how much the nervous system plays a role in all this...in my research it always comes back to that. Calm nervous system = calm gut. But how to do it?! So much conflicting info.

The brain regions might appear to respond differently because the pain signal is higher due to inflammation in the gut. It doesn't mean the brain causes it. Ibs is a kind of autoimmune response to paired stimuli from times of infection, a local part of the gut becomes overvigilant against a food that was eaten during an infection usually of bacterial or parasitic nature. Your reaction to the yogurt doesn't mean it did not cause symptoms, I have had coconut yogurt do that to me, it depends on the additives and bacteria they used. Gut brain axis dysfunction is a symptom of infection or imbalance, not a cause of ibs as such. Regulating the nervous system will help any illness.
@Ruktiet
@Ruktiet 10 месяцев назад
I get your point that not every IBS-like case is due to SIBO or excessive fermentation. BUT, Pimentel’s post-infectious anti-vinculin autoimmunity-induced SIBO mechanism, as wel as Boeckxstaens’ post-infectious mast cell degranulation to food antigens present at the time of infection mechanism both would explain the visceral hypersensitivity seen in the study you showed; mast cell mediators can activate neurons and repeated overexposure oversensitizes these.

The question that never gets asked is why? Why did fodmaps become a problem when there was a time when they weren't a problem? There is a cause and effect to everything. Removing fodmaps helps reduce the symptoms but it still doesn't fix the root of the problem. More and more I'm thinking the root is a gut-brain dysfunction.

You are one of the most common sense person I've ever met. That story you told gave me an idea. Yes, stress does not cause IBS, but stress and anxiety makes it worse. Think of it as Epilepsy [of the gastrointestinal system]! What do we use to heal epilepsy?: ↔️ vagal/vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) ↔️ magnesium ↔️ b vitamins ↔️ copper ↔️ earthing/grounding
@Diogenes-II
@Diogenes-II 9 месяцев назад
Okay microbiome Queen, you gave me an idea: If epilepsy is a violent stimulation of the vagus nerve to supply the brain with more oxygen, then what is the connection between anxiety and IBS? Could anxiety be stimulating the gut to produce some chemical element it desperately needs more of: like oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, or even, methane?
@EllaSqueaks

We don't use methane.

Anxiety is a response to danger. If you're out in the wilderness and see something that might be a snake and jump backwards, that's anxiety. An anxiety disorder in psychology, which is different than generic anxiety, is where one excessively worries or assumes danger will happen in the future. This comes from faulty future predictions. By learning how to predict the future better an anxiety disorder can be reduced and eventually removed. (Within reason, there will still be anxiety.) Anxiety tied to IBS is when the gut creates feelings that the body associates with anxiety. This can amplify the intensity of actual anxiety or it can give a generalized feeling of anxiety when there is no anxiety. This usually comes from some form of inflammation. If you get a stomach ache it can make you feel under the weather. The most common response is like having a cold where you want to lay down and take it easy. This can increase depression symptoms. For other people a tummy ache can amplify anxiety, so instead of calming down and laying in bed the opposite happens. Some people can get both. I'm not sure what epilepsy has to do with it, but if I was prone to epilepsy and it is dangerous and could even kill me, that's a reason for anxiety.

@@sandra.b7207 nervous system tonics plus some added bits. The main ingredients are Nettle, Peppermint, and Oatstraw Hay (about equal parts of the three). I also add in Rosebuds, Rosehips, Hibiscus and Fennel. I get them from the bulk herbal store and it's more affordable than it seems like it would be, less than $30/month I think. I make a strong tea of it in the morning in a quart jar, then a second jar of tea on the used herbs, there's still lots of good in them. When I realized nervous system deregulation is ultimately behind so many of the disorders and symptoms, I thought why not try this. Here's the elephant in the room that is always ignored. Magnesium deficiency. To actually say that supplements can't help the vagus nerve is insane. Without adequate magnesium your nervous system can't function correctly. And just because YOU and some people have jazzed themselves up about eating foods to give yourself psychosomatic symptoms, doesn't mean that's the case for everyone,. The idea that everything has to have just one cause is one reason why people aren't helped with their health issues.

For sure there is the gut-brain-brain-gut-axis and the nervous system surely affects us and for us who have IBS most likely, most of the times, are more sensitive to the sensations of gas build up and so on, but that can not be the only thing since there was a shitload of people having IBS 10-15 years ago to, when lactosefree, glutenfree, and most certainly Low Fodmap, was something only very few knew anything about, and still people were reacting to milk, bread, pasta, onions, garlic, and so on + many times, despite knowing that what you eat probably will cause symptoms, it will often take hours before those symptoms actually appear so... there must be something more than just the nervous system.

Healthcare system gaslighting and not believing me bc I see a therapist in the teaching hospital that my internal medicine doc is amd they all don't want to do their job so they use the mental health angle. Long story. Anyway I have been on so much Rifaximin and I KNEW my problem (the SIBO and IMO) were systemic and not simply small intestine. Finally i was so desperate getting a systemic med added that I was willing to forego the black box tinnitus warning. I figured no way. Well here I am. I get this thing where like the sound cuts off in my right ear and a low pitched beep sets in for maybe a few minutes. This all happened recently. Due to hyperactivity of immunity. 70% of the bodies immunity is in the GI tract. Research has extensively illustrated how chronic infection often leads to hyper stimulation and proliferation of immune cells - Which over time leads to hyperactivity of immunity and in many cases autoimmunity. If pathogens run unchecked over a long time immunity will quite naturally increase leading to it's sequela hyperactivity and autoimmunity (eg, Rheumatoid arthritis).
