Not going to the NBA is the best thing to happen to this guy. He's now making a lot of money, but balling the way he likes to. Traveling the world, spreading his inspiration and positivity everywhere he goes.
Yea, that is just the biggest line of hooey I ever heard. EVERY kid growing up loving B-ball wants to play in the NBA, skin color is not an issue, BUT, he does suffer from the white man disease. Can't jump.
@davidmiller4594 I wouldn't say that. You make a lot more money in the NBA than he makes. Having said that, he is still very successful doing what he does.
@Facetiouslyinsolent no shit they're but what he's saying is 5 on 5 basketball against the best players in the world is very different from 1 v 1 vs a few street people

@@nicklauschristofonoXXII he's not all just illegal and flashy moves, he's a good dribbler and handler in general, when have you ever seen someone he teaches in the NBA use one of his illegal moves/?
NBA players certainly work harder than most who ever play basketball, but not more than many other players pursuing going pro. The deciding factor for this guy and the pros is performance, not work ethic. No amount of work can overcome the athletic, size, and execution requirements to make it in the NBA.
Not entirely truth but close. Quite a few guys carved out careers without great athleticism or height. John Starks, Steve Kerr, Mark Price are a few examples.
I have watched many Professor videos. I give the guy props for being able to make a living, living his dream, through basketball. I have seen an interview with the professor, with he, himself, more or less claiming the same reasons as this video: politics, circumstance, late blooming, etc. The NBA does not care if you played in the NCAA. Foreign, D-league, players are drafted now on the regular. The fact of the matter is, he does not have the requisite physical attributes to be an NBA player. His combination of physical mass, height, strength, quick twitch muscles, whatever...basically physics, do not meet the minimum requirement to play with the greatest of the great. Not a slight, I mean, what fraction of a percent of people actually can even play in the NBA? 0.001? 0.0001? Yet, the professor, with his limitations has been able to craft a life doing what he loves. Hats off, much props.
Brian Scalabrine won a D1 player 11-0 when he got tired of people calling him trash. When are people going to realize that the players in the NBA are on a whole another level compared to any street baller out there?
I was just thinking this. People like to call Scal a "junk" player, yet he was schooling people that thought they could beat him. The NBA is such a different level that even the worst NBA players are miles ahead of others

In Volleyball size is also a problem (when you take out the libero). When you're small you still can manage to run great offensive plays (Not topnotch but still good) but when it comes to defensive plays you pretty much cannot do a thing but getting overpowered by your opponent.

The Professor is incredible. What a great guy. Would never hate on him or intend disrespect, but there are a million great ball players who will never be pro. Also? Even his avatar is of him carrying the ball 😉
He wasn't very good in community college or the CBA. I mean, just look at his stats. He wasn't good even at that low level. You think he could just walk into the NBA? Come on. This isn't some conspiracy against him, he just isn't good enough. Great handle and his tricks are fun to watch in And1, but he is slow, unathletic, short and skinny, not strong, not a great shot, massive defensive liability. Any NBA player would take the ball from him every time. And a lot of his moves would be double dribbles in a real game. But no shame. He found the perfect place for his skill set and has become a legend. That's awesome. He didn't need the NBA.
The Professor has skills but to make it to the Nba, he'd probably have to change a lot of his game just to compete. The players there are monsters and play regularly as a team. Mayb if he was younger he cld adapt but he's too old now. He's a liability to any team as he is now. Competitive Bball is way different, it's more intense, more rigorous to the exihibition plays he does. Hypothetically even if he makes it to a team, cld he even last the season ? I think the Professor found the right spot for himself and he's great at what he does and he's happy with it too which is the most important thing.
@@uzumakiangelus there's also the size and athleticism issue, which is a huge factor. mac mcclung is 6'2", has a 41" inch vertical and is barely clinging on to a nba roster.
It wasn’t his height, aside from flashy dribbling and an ability to shoot, he was not up to par at all. Even back in the day during the and 1 days he was a huge liability overall. Also most those and 1 guys got exposed badly playing against nba level players during the tour. Of course your gonna look good playing against normal ass People on the street. He became a sideshow act and was successful. He was never built for professional ball, but showed a path in the entertainment side of things. So good on him for having ambition. He’s getting up in age tho. Dude is almost 40.

He could not touch Earl Manigault. The Professor has a great talent for flash but simply does not have the skills needed at his size to be an NBA player.
Much respect to the man's persiverence. Street ball is the best thing for him. He carries too much to be in any prefessional or serious league. He is entertaining and successful in his own way nonetheless.
By the standards of my day (hands stays above the horizontal plane that bisects the ball at its center) everyone carries nowadays. I don't think the Professor carries any more than pretty much everyone does now.

I think what the professor did for the game is incredibly valuable, inspiring youngsters and living a life out of the glamour, on the streets, where real life is.
He wasn't very good in the CBA might have had a big part in it. It's ok to say he wasn't good enough. Very few people are. I played against some elite college and NBA players. They are insanely good. No shame in that. The professor has made a nice career out of basketball a different way. I give him a lot of respect for that.
The majority of the moves he uses on the playground are the ball handling equivalent of a trick shot. They are designed to wow the audience, but a defender trained to track the ball and his center of gravity rather than his flailing arms and legs will be much harder to get past. That being said, I have no doubt he could adjust his style to play NBA sytle point guard if he wanted to. The problem is twofold. One, he is almost 40 years old which is ancient in basketball terms. Second, as mentioned in the video, is his height. He needs at least four or five more inches. For instance, Isaiah Thomas (the second one) was a phenomonal offensive player but gave up more value on the defensive end than he contributed as a scorer. I would expect the same to apply here. Imagine the professor getting switched onto LeBron (the so-called king's signature move by the way) with the game on the line. No better way to lose subscribers.

@@MrYounis26 yeah I mean the Prof is a good street baller and a basketball ambassador and seems like a great guy, and the dude is a great businessman who built up a RU-vid following, so mad respect. Like I saw him meet with Harden and talk dribbling tips, so that was pretty cool.
Yeah, the title should be "The Real Reason The Professor Never Made the NBA". Obviously now at his age the ship has already sailed, but even 15-20 years ago he was filtered out based on height without hops, defensive liability in game action, has never shot particularly well, plus the sheer illegality of his handles in the NBA. With all that being said, it would entertaining for fans, even now, to see him play some minutes on an NBA court. Hell, the 12th man on the roster never does anything anyway, might as well make it him during garbage times, and be a draw for the fans.

Height is the biggest with also defensive in mind. On top of that just unlucky and opportunity. If he was 6'6 with those handles and jump shot he would have made it.
I don't get why there is no height classes in basket ball with scaled down hoops etc. It wouldn't be unprecedented, since there are already weight classes in combat sports. There might be tons of amazing basket ball players out there, who can never shine because of that.
@@mrguy3746 if everything was scaled down proportionately? I don't know, it might look even more impressive, since proportionately smaller creatures can do more amazing things than bigger ones. Compare for example the long jump distance of fleas with elephants.
weight classes in sports exist for the safety of the fighters, not so that theres an even playing ground... everyone has their unfair advantages, so having different classes just for height seems stupid
he's a flashy meme baller with a bunch of moves that work in the relaxed context of street ball but would be called as carries/travels in the actual NBA, just let it sit at that.. there's no way to make an assessment about his all-round game because he just makes videos of him cooking people 1-on-1, it's nonsensical to talk about him in relation to the NBA.. props to the guy for having found a way to make a probably nice living off basketball in an alternative way

Didn't know this question is still being asked, he's a street baller that's why they typically don't go to the NBA because they can't pull that there. People need to understand how good NBA players are.
At 39 now he’s not going into the NBA anytime soon. NBA players watch film. After two times through the NBA, the scouting reports would likely limit his effectiveness.
You have to be really really really good to be in the NBA. Specially when you don't have size as a natural advantage. Professor is an incredible hooper in the street scene though
Height and muscle mass. The tiny number of NBA players under 5'8" tall were all utter freaks of nature in athleticism. Professor has really nice handles. Really nice court vision. Decent jump-shooting mechanics. Decent to good 'trigger' on his shot (meaning how fast he can bring the ball into the shooting motion and release). Watched some clips of him actually playing ball not just 1 on 1 or 3 on 3 stuff. His man rotation... well... yeah... not so great. He does pretty good at keeping his man in front of him when he plays on ball D. Saw him getting scraped off on quite a few screens. That means he struggles to 'stay attached' to his man and in the NBA. All that means... you can't compete at that level. Simple as that. Think about how 'small' Steph Curry looks slicing and dicing through the lane or guarding an opposing guard. Man is 6'2" and weighs 185 lbs. Professor is 'maybe' 5'8" and comes in about 135-140lbs max. So he gives up 6 inches and 40 lbs of pure muscle to a 'small' shooting guard.
@@ntdscherer Well another big piece is you notice he doesn't have much in the way of 5v5 footage or content. His game is really focused on beating the 'on ball defender'. When it comes to higher level rotation and cover defense he would end up against serious shot-blockers after beating the man off the dribble on the perimeter. The big inside isn't going to bother going for a steal or even trying to 'stay in front'. He is just going to track and follow and as soon as the shot actually goes up then go vertical and block the shot.
The real reason he isn't in the NBA is cos he's not good enough. Respect to him for making a name and career for himself, but I think some people underestimate just how good you have to be to make the NBA.
During the 2002 season, Grayson Boucher averaged 4.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in his 13-game career with the Atlanta Krunk is WHY! lol
The Professor has talent yes! But the NBA isn’t just about talented pick up games trick shots and gimmicks it’s playing team ball an entire season plus a playoff run, where it isn’t just about the individual, and building championship teams take time and patience, then there’s staying healthy for the duration of the season as well as the health your teammates, as well as other X-factors good coaches etc. so maybe he could succeed in the NBA maybe not but I feel that he and his fans seems to over simplify what it actually takes to succeed in the NBA, hell most of the Goats of the game had to pay dues before reaching greatness check MJ, the professor and his followers feel like it’s a given for him,NBA has a rigorous and grinding schedule which would definitely factor into the professors performance.
I have better handles & passes than the Professor and I'm a 42 year old 3D Artist working a computer job haha 🤣 Got the highlights on my channel to prove it 💪🏀
He aint there for 2 simple reasons... 1. Genetics, and 2. He isnt good enough and never has been... Just cuz you got handles and tricks doesnt mean u can make it in the NBA...
Wow quite an amazing life and career, I don't watch a lot of NBA/basketball but I've been watching the professor for several years! Keep it up! Love the entertainment ❤
Years??!! Wow!! I got bored of this stuff pretty quick. Its all repetitive and predictable after about 5 videos in. There's no competition really. Its like the HGT with scoring involved 😂
There was never any official discussion whether he should be in the NBA, there was no offer or interest from any team. Truth is he's short and the ball tricks for which he's known for, mean nothing against professional players. Also no hops or particular ability to shoot, he's just quick on his feet against hood players, that's it.
This vid really makes me wonder how much better a whole generation of ballers might have been if they had not been absolutely swimming in their shorts and jerseys. Not saying they need to bring back the Bird era bikini shorts, but maybe having less than a carpet factory's worth of cloth around your legs would help a dude out.
Guys who is on the bench in the NBA is NOT better than him. He’s still better than most of the 5 10 and under dudes that was in the NBA. He must be blackballed.
I just found this Professor and am in shock after all this to discover he has been out there this whole time and I had no idea!>>>>Entertaining the crowds is what he does best of the best!! Thanks for all the laughs along life's highways!
B cause he would be called for a travel on every single play. Carry, steps, on and on. Look at skip to my Lou. Rafer Alston. He had to completely change his game and mindset and still took a while. Skip was better than professor. He barely made it for 5 yrs or so. No chance to small, ugly form that's inconsistent. No chance
Brian Scalabrine used to be the butt of jokes in the NBA, the poster boy for the obligatory white bench warmer and last man on the roster. Bu8t when non-NBA players challenged him, he destroyed them in one-on-one battles. IOW, even the worst NBA players are on a stratospheric level versus non-NBA players.
The Professor's basketball skills and smarts are insane. IMO, back in the early days of the NBA (50s and 60s) he would have fit in fine. But the NBA has changed. Nowadays, even "small" players almost have to be able to play well above the rim and muscle up inside, and at the Professor's height, it's tough even then. Take Nate Robinson: Only 5' 9", but a three-time NBA slam dunk champion who was a big-time college cornerback and genuine NFL prospect until he switched to basketball. Crazy talent, speed, strength and vertical jump. Even he spent most of his NBA career on the bench. So the Professor did the right thing.
It feels like there's a difference between 1V1 talent and NBA 5V5 talent. The professor could probably beat a lot of players 1V1, but if he was playing NBA level 5V5, i dont think his skills would be enough
@@MultiJejje This generation like to sugarcoat everything about content creators. Obviously they know nothing about the process so they spout tons of BS.
Professor, it's ok to say you weren't good enough. You're small, never dominated at the highest level in HS or college. There are countless hoopers out there who are REALLY good, who didn't make it and was never going to make it. It's fine. I didn't make it and you were a hell of a lot closer to make it than I ever was.
A large portion if not most of the popular street ballers wouldn’t survive in the NBA or even D league. Fundamentals and basics will always defeat the fancy ball handling. The exception of Rafer Alston (skip to my Lou [also my favorite street baller]). And he made it to the finals but sadly didn’t win. But very happy that the professor is making good money doing what he does now. Also all of the And1 guys got screwed by the owners in the end.
His trickster dribbling is fun to watch but has absolutely ZERO value in either high level college basketball or the NBA... in fact, they disdain these type of one on one players -- that's what "And One" fans could never understand
