Well, here's my thought on Seasmoke Seasmoke recognized the OG bloodline and saw that Addam was dragonless, and the only one within his vicinity that he always kept seeing when he roamed. W for him he probably surmised. Drogon did the same when he recognized Jon Snow having a strong bloodline within him off rip. Seasmoke was lonely, and the opportunity to have a rider came at the right time. He didn't fulfill anyone's wish but his own as a dragon. He was just tired of being alone since Laenor abandoned him. He needed a companion. From the beginning, he was scouting Addam by flying low so that he could get Addam's attention, and when he was summoned to Dragonstone, he played them all, killing the knight in defiance because they offered him a rider of weak blood. He fled Dragonstone and immediately went looking for Addam himself to bond with him at all cost. He's depicted as a proud dragon that knows what he wants and where he wants to stay. And its also mentioned during the series that dragons mourn separation and that they aren't to be approached during that time as they can lash out at everything. I don't think Rhaenys or anyone would've gotten close to Seasmoke. You have to be bonded with the dragon in order to be symbiotically able to communicate with it. An example of that is Caraxes and Daemon, when Otto pointed a sword at Daemon, Caraxes came down from the castle. When Daemon got hit with an arrow, Caraxes felt it. When Rhaenera was having a baby, Syrax felt her pain of labor. When she found Arrax's wing on the beach, she cried with Raenera as she herself mourned the loss of her own son. You can't communicate with another dragon unless it has some sort of bond with you and only if it chooses too. And I don't think any dragon in GOT is susceptible to magic manipulation because of their dominant will, as Drogon could not be warged into by Bran when they wanted to see where he was after Danny died. They needed to find him by location and sight. They mentioned that Drogon had an immense will that would NOT let Bran mess with him, implying that Bran tried and Drogon refused him outright. (I wish we saw that tbh) Also, this isn't the first dragon we know to pick its rider. Viserion seemingly picked Jon Snow as his rider, regardless of the fear that Jon had of him and Drogon. So even if you are afraid of a dragon, they can still pick you. Even Addam, showing fear and trembling infront of Seasmoke, was chosen. Aemond was terrified of Vhagar, yet she initially tested him and helped him conquer his fear of her. Over time, we see that even Vhagar listened to Aemond without quarrel as she did when she killed Arrax and Luc. I rambled enough, but thats the gist of my thoughts on Seasmoke. His personality trait may just be proud and picky, yet familiarity is what he wants because of Laenor.

Seasmoke recognized Adam's "scent" because Lenor had Corlyss'DNA too so his blood was familiar to Seasmoke . I pick Queen Rhaenera because she was chosen heir & she wants peace !

you don't know, Addam has the blood of Valyria in him which allows him to dragon bond, Targaryens were not the only family to have had the ability, they're just the ones that survived the doom.

I think he chose Adam because he misses Laenor and maybe smells the blood relation and Adam reminds him of Laenor. Seasmoke can sense his character.

If dragons are molded by their first riders' personalities and older dragons who lose their riders, pick their riders that are similar to the personality of the dragon. It makes sense. Seasmoke picking Addam could be viewed as both men having similar personalities. Both men wanted and dreamed of being something other than what their birthright and station in society told them they had to be. Addam is also Laenor's half-brother. So the blood tie is also there. I have no problem with the character Laenor. I felt sorry for him. I liked how he and Rhaenyra made their agreement and lived their life. They found a way to be something more than what society expected them to be and were as happy as they could be. Laenor just wanted more. I liked how he got want he wanted knowing what he had to give up. I do hope he comes back as I didn't care he was gay. His character was fine, I didn't care he was gay and I felt sorry that they tried their best to make it work and tried to have his kids instead of her only having Strong's kids. That story narrative made sense! What the showrunners did in episode Smallfolk was BS and I do hope it stops there. That was uncalled for and that shits the bed for me. Dan and Dave killed GOT in like 5 years. Do these guys want to beat that record by doing it in 2 years? Just STOP IT ALREADY! We are not interested in your DEI agenda or your gayafining everything! Stick to the author world building, character arches, and storylines. You are not better or more clever than him in this world setup. Martin has lived and breathed this world longer than anyone. Idk why people think the Velaryons have no dragon blood in them when the Targaryens have been marrying into their house long before Aegon the Conqueror was even born. Coryls most definitely has some Targaryen blood in him, which passed onto his children, including bastards. Seasmoke missed his rider and Addam was the closest match.

You missed the subtlety of when Darkland approached Seasmoke, he hesitated at the last moment when uo close and showed fear while Addam looked much calmer and at ease in the end.

I think the Targaryens have monopolized dragons by claiming they needed to be the 'blood of the dragon" and we are learning that anyone can become a dragon rider. We know how dragons were tamed in old valyria, through blood magic. Danny does not know how to hatch her dragons, but the witch who kills khal Drogo shows her.. through blood magic. That is why we get comments such as 'the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion'. We know that in the books, it is claimed that a peasant girl tames sheep stealer. The show is showing that in its own way.

Another factor is that … sea smoke wants a rider that knows and loves the sea as he does. Hence Adam of HULL

Simply Seasmoke saw that Ser Darklyn wasnt worthy of his rider's saddle and so he took matters into his own hands and found himself a Velaryon in disguise in the form of Addam.

Great theory but honestly I don’t think Rhaenys had anything to do with SeaSmoke’s decision!! Like Viserys said, the thought that we control the dragons is an illusion, dragons have refused previous riders in the past! I don’t think we know enough about Marilla the Hull which is Adam’s mother! Corlys alone has ancient ties to the magic of Valeria so we need to understand the background of Marila the Hull which is the mother of the bastards and that’s what Rhaenys was referring to when she was admiring Alayn … I think the most likely cause of SeaSmokes decision to choose Adam was Adam’s connection to his old rider and Adam’s bloodline connection! Saera Targaryen and Vaegon Targaryen might be still alive during the dance. Vaegon might be in Old Town and Saera might be still in Votantis. Vaegon might know about the Song of Ice and Fire studying it in the libraries. Aemon might have continued the studies.

I thought that Dragon behaved like it recognized kin. I think Addam must share very strong blood link with Ser Corlys and the Dragon's former rider. Because at the very end, that Dragon looked like dude, you know me, I know you. That's what I thought I saw from its look. Towards the end of the scene, you could see the fear leave Addam, to be replaced by curiosity.

Addam is half brother to Laenor and I believe the blood connection sealed the dragon bond. Like a lost puppy looking for his family. Seasmoke definitely missed his bond with a Ryder. Ser Darkling crept in a scared fashion and SeaSmoke was having none of the fear. It was a different kind of startled fear when dragon approached Addam as he was becoming aware., not the same as Ser Darkling's trembling fear at all.

Actually about he dragon intelligence and commands I’ve always felt that drogon didn’t want to kill lord Varys when Danny gave the command he took very long react as if he considered not to.

I have a theory that the Velaryons were once dragon riders like the Targaryens but too many perhaps went the salt and sea way like Corlys. We know the Velaryons were already at Driftmark when the Doom occurred and before the Targaryens had arrived. We also know that there were wild dragons who no one can account for being in Westeros. What if the Velaryons are more called to salt and sea but at one point there were some Velaryons who were blood and fire and bought their dragons to Westeros and were the source for the Cannibal, Sheepstealer, and Grey Ghost. Addam being of Velaryon blood, whether that is Corlys or Laenor, maybe one of those Velaryons who were more blood and fire like some of them of old and thus could ride Sea Smoke. Just my theory.

The dragons descendants from Valeria I think the dragons can sense valerian blood along with Targaryen blood just like Drogon could sense Jon and he approached Jon. I think Seasmoke could sense a familiarity with AAdem like in Leanor . I also think Seasmoke knew what Rheanrya was trying to do, and decided to choose his rider . If you think about it , the Dragon is alway the one to choose, because if they don’t want you , you get burned. A Dragon is not a slave . So technically, The Dragon is the one who chooses its rider unless it was born to its rider and raised with that bond .

It seems that Valyrian blood, not exclusively Targaryan blood, can dragonride.

Clearly not just anyone can claim a dragon...but, maybe, a dragon can claim anyone.

At Kings Landing are Aemonds Vhagar and Helaena's Dreamfyre. Aegons Sunfyre is wounded but recovering at Rooks Rest. In Oldtown, Daeron has the blue dragon Tessarion. Stormcloud and Tyraxes are with Rhaena and the kids at the Eyrie in the Vale There are also 3 wild dragons: Sheepstealer, Grey Ghost and the Cannibal. Both Grey Ghost and the Cannibal are on Dragonstone and Sheepstealer is the big wild dragon that is feeding on sheeps in the Vale. Arrax and Meyles are the dead dragons at this point.

Im pretty sure the mystery variable in how to claim an older dragon, is how similar the person is to the dragon’s original rider. IE. How much the person reminds the dragon of the human they first bonded with.

With the fact that the dragons and their riders are so deeply connected, you would think that Seasmoke could sense that Laenor is still alive. I guess it's suspension of disbelief time.

Adam is not related to The Queen That Never Was, he doesn’t have HER blood. But he can become the heir to that house. This dragon choosing its own rider is a great addition & just maybe, Seasmoke wants a rider & he wants to honor its Queen. Maybe.

I think it’s the simple fact that Laenor, Corlys’s son, was the original rider of Sea Smoke. Sea Smoke sensed the relation of Addam to Velaryons. And I just realized I wasn’t the first to figure that out. 🙄

I think its still special being a dragon rider, unlike the way Jace feels. Not everyone can ride a dragon even if they have dragon blood. You can have all kinds of dragon blood in you and that dragon still may not chose you. You could be dragonless for years or even not at all. So in that sense it is still special to be a rider.

Well, we don't know who Marilda of Hull's mother and grandmother were. A Daughter of Gaemon and Daenys married some 'Petty Lord'. I could imagine the 'Petty Lord' might be either a yet not so prominent Velaryon (because they got suddenly marryable in the next three generations) or House Celtigar, because that was loyal from the start and stayed so. House Celtigar sounds more like as if a sixth daughter with no dowery worth talking of would just marry 'a shipwright'.

Could it be possible: since 3 heads are the dragon; 1. the dragon 2. the former rider 3. the new rider - that since Meylees and Rhaneys died with no where for their essence to go, that they went into SeaSmoke and that's how Rhaenys continued the fight by choosing a son of Corlys?

I would bend a knee to Princess Raynera because she was chosen by her dad to become his successor. Whenever her father talked to his wife with his last words, he was just telling her the story he always talked about only to her in private. He was dazed, confused, and drugged up when he spoke last. Unfortunately he either mistook Alysent for his daughter or he was just desperate to tell the story once again. Alesent should have called Raynera there to discuss succession instead of lying and making her son the king.. There will be more dragons, just not the way they are using them now. Raynera, is very analytical more so than Alisent. ( Hope I spelled their names correctly) Raynera just wanted the task to play out that her father had handed her since he named her heir. She also cared for her family, friends, and the people of her country that she was responsible for. She would have made a way better choice then Alisent got in the middle of by wanting her son to succeed.

I think they are setting up…Rheaynera to always being specious of Addam by doing this, no Targaryen blood and claiming Seasmoke without her permission.

I think there is also a connection with the sea. Coryls is the sea snake his older bastard son decided dragons are not his calling but stated, “in my blood is Salt and Sea” coupled with the fact that they have Targaryen blood then being chosen by “Sea” Smoke! I chose the red queen Meleys she was brave and furios. People simply forget that it wasn't only the Targaryens who could ride dragons. There were many Valyrian families who rode dragons back then. Only the Targaryens, Velaryons, Celtigar, etc. fled and were the only few left. It was never said that only the Targaryens could do it.

I’m thinking more of needing to have Valerian blood to claim a dragon. Even though most of old Valeria was destroyed, I’m guessing there were more survivors who probably didn’t know they had any bloodlines going farther back. If I remember correctly, they eventually tried to have non Valerian people try to claim dragons later on after dance of the dragons if I remember correctly. Only one probably did. The rest were unsuccessful.🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought the fact seasmoke was so protective of Adam already was really cool. I mean she was ready to kill Adam if she thought he was a threat And seasmoke sensed the danger, even though he knows her, was protective of Adam as his new ride. I really don't think the queen that never was had anything to do with it. I think we'll find out more about Adam's mother later, perhaps she was a bastard herself.
