I wouldn't say that there was no FUD in UK/Europe. It's just that people aren't exposed quite as much because the TV/Radio media is regulated. You can't openly report BS as fact. There's no such equivalent in USA media. Of course the paper press is just as bad either side of the Pond and that's where the majority of the FUD exists. You might also think "online FUD", but that is countered just as much.

I sold my 2020 Seat Mii Electric Plus and got a 2018 Tesla model S 75D. The Tesla is more efficient than the Seat above 80 km/h and goes twice as far even though the Tesla is double the weight and size. When I try to sit in some of the compact cars my knees stick into the dash quite painfully. I agree that the Hummer is a pointless vehicle. That's still cool AF. And pretty good in an apocalyptic scenario, better yet, the Cybertruck with bulletproof S.S. But, I am glad for 1 thing, I need a heavy lift truck to tow my 40' 5th wheel trailer that weighs close to 20k lbs. I want a full electric truck that gets 500 miles of range on a single 80% charge that doesn't cost over $100k. An F-350-like dually or even a tandem axle-like truck would be awesome for my needs. I also would like a small compact car like a model 3 performance for my everyday driver. I'm just lacking funds for all that atm. The premise of the Video is good, but I would suggest that the biggest reason the Big 3 US companies choose to make big expensive EV’s was because they had to learn to make EV’s and wanted to try and cover cost because they could charge so much more. They knew they would loose $$$, less if more expensive and sold less… Just sayin’ 🤔🤪

They've been doing the same with gas and diesel vehicles. Instead of supplying common sense efficient vehicles, they work to change the minds of the American market for bigger more luxurious vehicles. Now we spend more on infrastructure and whatever progress we made to reduce harmful emissions with hybrid and electric vehicles has been offset by suburban tanks.

There is one disadvantage with relying on efficiency. If the conditions are suboptimal the range must surely fall more noticeably than if you had an inefficient car with a compensatingly large battery. All it would take is low tyre pressure, a roof-rack, a heavy load. And your range noticeably falls. Or at least that is what i imagine - i dont have a small(ish) tesla to test that.

I hope it will not only translate into only sub compact SUVs. hatchback are great all around small cars. modern wagons with properly designed hatch and good drag coefficient could make efficient 2 or 3 row wagons with great passenager/cargo space without wasting much efficiency. AWD can be available and its not too hard to make a slightly raised version for people who are actually driving gravel/dirt roads or steep driveways. with a flat underbody , no diffs or exhausts hanging, you don't need as much suspension lift, and it should be easy and cheap to equip additional underbody protection. all the unused headroom and ground clearance space is wasting energy all the time.

Almost breaking news from UK/Europe - the Chinese have arrived. And the cars definitely do not suck. EDIT: Yes that CAFE standard just showed the way for manufacturers to make bigger and less efficient vehicles. They make way more profit on them. They largely used existing technology. Despite the fact that they were/are way more dangerous, a little bit of marketing covers that setback. Truth is, they crash poorly compared to a decent saloon car. They handle really poorly. They cost relatively little to buy - "you get a lot of car for your money" - so the saying goes, before you trick the things out, of course. Yet cost a ton to operate. The visibility is so bad that a new epidemic has grown in the USA - parents running over their own kids. The list goes on and on, yet people buy them because they are told it makes them feel safe. And it's totally untrue. But they are joining the herd. I have a solution - change the CAFE standard so that it closes the loophole.

BMW is one exception to the “cheap global car” idea - they have survived just fine. Tesla can do the same. Chasing cheap just leads to the bottom of the barrel. Tesla would do better to refine their 3 and Y with higher build quality, more luxurious design and yes absolutely greater efficiency. The less charging required the better. Leave the cheapest budget cars to others and focus on making the best overall ownership experience at a slightly higher price point.

Well done video ... thanks for that. Yeah, I've been holding out for better batteries with longer range. Partly because I don't like the idea that buying a new EV will only get me half the miles of my old van from last century (1996). I can drive 3 hours north through mountains to visit family and drive all the way back home before I need to refuel and I can refuel at my own local place with people I know. I'd like for Tesla to make a minivan that would get 600 miles range (966km) with wireless charging for $25,000. Perhaps with those new Amprius batteries or the NASA SABERS batteries? Something made in the USA that can't catch fire. I like all that "drive by wire" and 48v tech too. It seems, right now, Tesla has the better software and are the only ones making a profit from EV's so, I feel like I need to go with Tesla ... even tho I now despise Musk for being a lunatic and wish the Tesla board would kick him out.

It is absolutely no good to build an electric car unless you have an established charging Network that meets people's daily needs. Not everybody can put a charger in their house, apartment. Not everybody has 220 amp service at their home a lot of America is still operating off of 100 or 60 amp service. So until you stop worrying about just the car and think about the infrastructure this is going to be dead on delivery

Electric batteries are not the optimal energy delivery system for EVs. They are not and will nevef be reliable enough-, energy dense-, and durable enough to power an EV. Hybrid fusion/fission cells, based on current technology, such as those that power the space probes launched back in 1969, would give us 8,000 mile range vehicles TODAY. But then the issue becomes crazy neighbor Bob arguing with his wife, the cops are called and he drives angily away in his nuclear weapon ...scenarious such as these basically ruins it for the rest of us :(

Where is all that electricity for charging EVs come from? Mostly fossil fuels. Let's not lose sight of why EVs exist to begin with. It's supposed to reduce CO2 emissions. No matter how affordable they become, they won't solve the renewables problem.

Still more efficient than burning gas directly. With your mindset, we would still be burning fuel for public street lighting. But to be real, the best solution is sensible urban planning and public transportation. Until we come up with teleportation the predominant use of individual forms of transportation is not a sustainable way to move people in a city.

It's not just that they ran a cost analysis and found they could save money by just increasing the size of vehicles. Before Tesla, they didn't think it possible to make EV's at scale. Hell, it still can't be done across all auto manufacturers at the same time. We just don't have enough battery material mined and being manufactured fast enough to support the whole transition. It will happen, it just needs time. Time enough to strengthen the electric grid to be capable of handling those loads. Time enough for battery recycling to be dialed in & scaled up for at scale manufacturing needs. Time enough for the oil companies to scale back their consumer sales and sell in bulk to electric companies. Trying to force the transition faster than the market can adapt causes unexpected consequences: Brownouts.

Tesla is developing a cheaper EV just as Elon always said they would, knowing that at some point another car manufacturer would twig on to the need for a peoples car and come to eat Tesla's lunch. BYD, it seems is that car company. As for the less expensive Tesla, there are six things that they should feature. 1) Scrap touch screens and make all controls tactile. Fiddling with your touch screen while driving is more dangerous that using your cell phone. For instance the radio besides being controllable from the steering wheel should have a nob on the left for tuning and a nob on the right for turning on and off and controlling volume. Not all historical innovations have to be scrapped just to be 'modern'. 2) A major design fault of all cars including EVs is having all 4 electric windows. The driver's window should be a quality wind-down window. The other three windows - electric and operated at the window and by the driver. Driving into a pond or lake is not a pretty prospect with an electric drivers-window. 3) Once you have done '1', look at the speedometer display of the Leaf. It is clear, visible through the top half of the steering wheel, and only takes a very quick glance to get any information you want. You hardly have to take your eye off the road. Adopt it just as it is. 4) For heaven sake include somewhere in the car (possibly in the trunk or frunk) a 110V (220 in the rest of the world) three pin AC plug so that you can operate a kettle, chain saw, welder or whatever else you want to plug in. Make sure it has an Amp rating of about twice a standard three-pin home-plug. 5) Go back to the original idea of making the car 2-way. Ie. you can power your house from your car if you want to during power outages or even have it plugged in to store the juice from your solar panels and return it at night. If you want to compete with BYD you have to out-do them. 6) Use LFP or even Na batteries as they become practical and develop a package so that if the battery ever drops below practical capacity, you can remove the battery and use it as a home battery. This would also apply to batteries from crashed cars. Make sure that it is simple (like in the Leaf) to replace the battery if this is ever necessary. Actually, if you do '5', you could simply keep the car, plug it in to the house and buy a new one.

I bought a brand new MG for $32 000 (Australian). That included tinted windows. It has everything, sometimes I think they went too far with all the bells and whistles. Petrol driven. Is there an EV like my MG that would cost the same? It must charge within 8 minutes, no waiting at charging stations, travel 450 km (guaranteed), heating and ac without worries, high trade-in value, low insurance, light on tyres, that can tow a Jet-ski, go uphill, against wind without using extra battery energy. ( I have not found an EV like that yet.

First, you don't take into account the time you go to and from the gas station, and the fuel it takes. An ev charges at home. Ranges improve all the time so you'll have your 450km car in a generation or two. Yes you will pay mo6for tires but you'll save more on other maintenance that isn't needed like oil and filter changes, brake jobs transmission service etc. And that is a lot more money. On using energy, you can't ignore the laws of physics, you will have the same effect in a gas car. Towing for EVs is actually less stressful as the motor can handle the extra load and there is no gearbox to wear out For trade in values, that's market rules. The more people realize the advantages of EVs the less they will depreciate.

I really thought with the word "RedWood" in the video description you were alluding to Tesla's new Model 2 using 100% recycled batteries to make the cars cheaper and more sustainable. Perhaps Elon has figured out how to giga press a whole car frame from recycled ice cars for a small car as well? Maybe it should be called project matchbox?
