Apple performed better financially under Tim cook because of Apple's reputation that Steve had created, if Apple were a startup, it never would’ve taken off under Tim Cook.

This is what happens when a design-driven company is led by a bean counter. Good luck to Sir Jony.

But the question not being asked is "did Johny even WANT to be CEO after Steve's passing?"

Jony Ive realised audience would throw eggs at him if he praises the *$999 stand with his usual & iconic tone,* so left for good.

"The design team was frustrated, they wanted to make the designs, but the executive team just wanted to focus on profits" ...mmm... I think we've heard something similar before... that time, someone left Apple and created Next, and participated in Pixar. What will happen now, I wonder...

Tim Cook would make a great CEO at Amazon or Wal-Mart - he would be just as happy selling building insulation and stationery as iPhones and iMacs.

When Job died, Apple died. Back then, the fact it last till now is because large "organism" have inertia.

Now Apple compettitors can contract Jony Ive's services for their products.

Tim Cook is another John Scully. Safe business over daring innovation. Sad

Apples innovations are completely thrown out the window. It’s all about monthly subscriptions and how to get deeper into costumers pockets.

Jony Ive and Elon Musk being in one team sounds good to me.

Apple used to make fantastic products, but now they don't... They are facing the Nokia syndrome.

It is sad to see Apple lose its soul after Jobs and Ive.

No one person “designed the iPhone”, that’s a team work, lead by someone, in this case Jonny Ive.

Fire Cook.... Apple has lost their fan base because of him. Apple was set on a trajectory to be successful by Jobs. Now the momentum is gone. Remember Blackberry... They didn't want to change their design.

I grew tired watching so many commercials I didn't make it till the end...

The truth is , Apple is falling down ... Such a shame :( Just like what happend to Nokia because of it's crazy CEO (Stephen Elop) .

I like the fact they don’t change the design so much anymore. It means I don’t update so much anymore. Thanks Tim for saving me a lot of money ;)

For Apple to be the company it once was Tim Cook needs to hit the road, and the company must focus on innovation and design, profits will follow. Unless this happens I will no longer buy apple products.

When you look at the John Scully days and the dispute that Scully had with Steve Jobs was based upon the fact that Steve Jobs wanted to develop the Macintosh while Scully wanted to keep the Apple II because it was profitable.

Well, you know the old saying, "There's always a bad apple in the bunch." In this case, it turns out to be Tim Cook.

Tim Cook inherited an upward growth path that was created by innovative design! Instead of understanding WHAT created the success, he has abandoned it!

Jony Ive is one of my Generation Creativity Geniuses. My University freshman year 1998 we had our first MAC pc in all those colors and we LOVED THEM. Thank you Jony Ive🌟

Steve was the glue. The team he left behind are all individually talented, but they needed Steve to be the synergistic element to keep Apple ahead of the curve.

One of the reasons I left Apple for Android is because their innovation became painfully stale.

The classic form of gradual decline of empires always always begins from within, can’t see Apple being different!

History might just be repeating itself in another way. Jony Ive might come back as CEO of Apple.

I thought I had a good pun when SJ passed away (RIP), but now I have two: "Apple has no more Jobs available for creative innovation" and "Now that Ive left, Apple won't be fancy anymore"

Jony Ive was an autonomous, untouchable employee. There was no approval authority over him; whatever he designed went out the door. He is responsible for a number of design triumphs. I remember him triumphantly showing off the iOS 7 wallpaper that quickly made so many people dizzy that they had to remove it in a quick update. He masterfully decreed Helvetica to be Yosemite's system font, which did not work out at all. He designed the fabulously popular G5 Cube and the incredibly ingenious crowd-not-so-pleasing trash-can Mac, which lost Apple a lot of business in deferred purchases. He also produced not one, not two, but three iterations of the butterfly keyboard, which obviously had not been tested by humans for usability or machines for durability Jony Ive's public experimentation with the butterfly keyboard cost Apple goodwill and again, money in deferred sales. If anyone had had the authority to check Jony Ive's work, the butterflies would never have left the net. Most of Jony Ive's designs were excellent, and even his failures showed excellent design chops, but he demonstrated that he was too introverted to listen to feedback or test his designs. He was a lone wolf, not a very good manager. Making him CEO would have been a huge mistake. Jony Ive is an excellent designer, but he is not a god, as his worshipers profess. My thought is that Jony Ive realized he was about to destroy his reputation if he continued to work without an approval and testing process, and resigned to save himself. The fact that he has no ill will to Apple, and that no one in Apple had the power to override his judgment or fire him, shows that his departure was his decision and his alone. Retrofitting himself with an approval and a testing process on his position would have been humiliating. He must have realized that he was a design genius who needed a manager, but didn't have one. So he left.

VERY interesting! Thanks for the "inside" story! Making money is good, but not at the expense of losing the core ideas and values that resulted in the successful company in the first place. It's all about appropriate balance. Good luck!

I’m actually currently watching this video on the iPhone SE and wearing the series 1 Apple Watch...

They’ve clearly lost their edge since Jobs left, but they are still good at maintaining. Hopefully new leadership can reinvigorate their innovative spirit.

Bottom line is that Tim Cook isn’t someone that should be trusted. Apple is quite unethical in its business practices.

Tim Cook is more concerned about being a SJW than innovation at a technology company. No wonder Jony got frustrated and had enough.

The real reason I believe is that he has lost control over design. The Jobs/Ive collaboration was the best this century has ever had. But now he has just become a symbol within the company and he is not liking it.

Not a huge Tim Cook fan by any means, but you have to look at the history behind the manufacturing success of the iPhone4, in which Cook purchased all the available CNC Mills in the world in 2007 -08 and placed them on the floor in Chinese factories soley to mill out iPhone cases. That successful ramp is what put Apple where it is today in terms of a volume product at 10x profit margin of competitors. That kind of execution impressed Steve. He would never think anyone could replace him anyway. Even Ive. Sorry to say.

What services has Tim focused on? iCloud has been neglect. OS X. Apple Wallet and so much more. Tim is a great industrial engineer, but is not a visionary. Apple needs a visionary.

It will be interesting when we look back at Apple in about five years and pinpoint all the mistakes they did after Steve died and how the company went from being the number one rated company in the world to being bought by one or another Chinese tech company.

Real reason is "starting your own venture makes you more money, and you are your own boss"

This is similar to Jordan Peterson's argument of how companies go through a cycle: "All the creative people are there at the beginning. They get chased out until you have nothing but managers and administrators. Then the environment shifts, then the company dies."

At 13:33 you missed one key element, he also focuses heavily on Supply Chain, which is the only way he can generate the incredible numbers he has, there's even a picture of him and Steve talking about it.

I'm sad for us b/c I love great apple designs and may not see any new/great designs in the upcoming years but I'm happy for Jony for finally doing what he loves 🙂 I like your reviews and look-n-feel.
